I did wish the author would have used more of the real language of the actual times and also customs of the times. The dialogue seemed way too informal and there were many instances of words and phrases used that were not in existence at the time! The informal dialogue and the modern dialogue instances greatly lessened the overall feel and effect of what is supposed to be a historical romance. That disappointed me, because I know the author has put a lot into the writing of this book, but It needed a severe editing.
Continuity problems: no such thing as a "tissue" back in medieval times. It would have been a cloth handkerchief she used! Snack is a Dutch word from The 17th century. Bathroom was unknown then. Glass drinking vessels would have been unknown, as would champagne! T shirts and bras were definitely unknown.
The many instances of ridiculous historical errors completely spoiled the book for me.
The author needs to read up on Scottish and medieval history before attempting to write another historical novel.
This was a good story but I had a few problems with it. The use of modern things like a t shirt and a baby crib were out of place during the period this story took place in. There were other things that didn't fit in either. I also felt that the threats of the evil twin ended too soon. It was the title of the book after all. The wedding night was skipped over which made me think at first that this was a clean book but love scenes were abundant later. Their first time together seemed to me to be a start to their relationship, one neither at first had wanted so I felt it was more important then all the added love scenes that came later. I would have liked to see their relationship develop into something more rather then have it skip over it and then just be there. The twin brother was definitely evil but his threat ended about halfway through the story. This story had a lot of potential but the modern references just took away from making me feel it took place in medieval times. I did like Heather and Hiram and have to admit this is the first time I have read a book where both the hero and heroine had red hair which I found unusual but didn't have a problem with. I did enjoy the story but t thought it dragged once the evil twin was dispatched.
I could not put this book down I started it on friday afternoon & finished it 12:32 am sunday. Heather is dissapointed when she is told by her father that she was to marry Hiram a charming highlander Laried. The night of the ball she was introduced to his family and instead of loathing him she felt an instant connection to Hiram. Little did she they would face many obsticals together both fighting their own demons. Then Hiram's twin has come home with a plan to steal away Heather from his brother. This story is filled with secrets, lies, danger and most importantly love. This is a must read especially if you love Highlander romance.
Reading this book was like watching a train wreck-horrible but you can’t look away! Billed as medieval, there were so many modern phrasing’s with an occasional AYE! Thrown in for “real dialect “. Who researched this? Facial tissue wasn’t invented until the early 1900’s. Did Scots even WEAR armor? Mascara running down her face? What castle has a front lawn to stroll across and who in that time summons a doctor not a healer or midwife? I’m afraid I have to agree with the evil brother’s opinion of all the weeping our hero did. Usually I refrain from slamming a book or one star ratings, but this book makes even the sex boring!
I don’t post spoilers for any books I read! What I can tell you is that you will love reading all of Adamina Young’s books! I always start with publication date and work my way up through all of an Author’s Books!
I received this Book for free for an honest review. I really hope the Author & the editors rewrite the book to have it not only make sense but make the Story flow better & make the Story better. If I could I would give it a-2 rating. I had to stop reading the Book at Chapter 6. This Book is hard to read. You don't know who is speaking from 1 paragraph to the next. There are so many old Scottish Gaelic words which makes it even harder to read. Everything is moving so fast in these first few chapters you are not sure what to think. Tell me if anyone can make sense of this paragraph. “An’ whit if he is the kindest, gentlest man in the world?” Ella smiled at her. “Ye can ‘what if’ till the cows come hame, my lovie, but naebody knaws the future an’ worryin’ disnae help. Onyway, I hae a wee bit put by fer a rainy day."
I just don't think this is what people want to try & figure out trying to read these words repeatedly throughout a Book. It honestly makes these people sound illiterate & unintelligent. I believe people back in 1800's were more intelligent than the way they sound in this Book. No it doesn't say the date, albeit the mention of a Florin which was issued from 1849 until 1967. I really tried to read as much as I could, I just couldn't. When you are unsure who is speaking & you have paragraph after paragraph of words that you just cannot understand you end up frustrated & don't wish to continue. Sorry. I wish the Author with success & hopefully she can write something better for us to read.
Another amazing story by Adamina Young. The arranged marriage of Hiram and Heather was not expected nor wanted by either of them. However, they knew what was at stake and did their duty for their clans. The characters are wonderful. They were full of life, dramatic and depending which side of sanity they were on they were kind, intelligent and thoughtful. The two others on the insanity side appeared normal but were not. Their insidious and treacherous thinking almost cost Heather her life on two occasions. Hiram did his best to protect Heather but sometimes it was not enough and he almost lost her. After their unconventional meeting, they grew to love and respect each other. I admired Hiram for expressing his emotions but after a while it began to get monotonous and boring. Thank goodness the story is exciting, dynamic, full of intrigue and scheming conspiracies for greed and power. This is a page turner and will keep your attention throughout. I do not want to be remiss about Heather and Hiram's passionate, erotic romance. HOT!!! Steamy. This book will not disappoint. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Heather and Hiram were forced in an arranged marriage. They both highly resented it and thought they would hate it. As it turned out they quickly fell head over heels in love. Everything was great until Hiram's father was killed in battle. This occurrence brought Hiram's twin Conner home from the imposed exile at their fathers hands. Conner was an evil man and abused women so he had been sent away. Now that he was back he set his eyes on Heather determined to have her for himself as he was jealous of the relationship she had with Hiram. He almost succeeded in killing her and her unborn son. A fight between the evil twin and the furious husband wound up with Conner accidentally impaling himself on his own knife and ending his reign of terror. This only left his mother Connor fashioned himself after. This was a love story of beautiful strong emotions and sexual passion that would make anyone happy until the evil brother tried to steal again everything that belonged to Hiram.
Major mental issues run in this McGregor family, and it tries to take its' toll and destroy many. Hiram can't seem to grasp all the treachery around him and to his detriment. How many will be hurt or lose their lives until evil is defeated? Connor's game of cat and mouse with Heather sickened me. Spoiler* What a deadly duo Connor and mom! * It made my skin crawl and was extremely hard to read all the depravity and evil that transpired by those two. If you like sick and sicker, this is your book ! I reveled in joy at how Hiram got back a measure of revenge for Heather (on the men from her past). Go Hiram!! Che6out all the evil that leads to a hea ending.

I really wanted to like this book. The storyline and plot were promising, and I have enjoyed this author's other books. However, two days after finishing it, iam still confused... Bathrooms in a midevial castle, men in tee shirts, babies in cribs, repeating paragraphs, characters walking into rooms and having conversations, yet we don't know which character it is because it's never stated. Not to mention that the hero greets his wife with " oh hey" and the "evil" twin dies at the halfway mark...
I am not sure what happened here, or where the editor was at but I am hoping the next book is better, as I have enjoyed her past books.
What a story you have to love twins. But when they are total opposites you never know how they will turn out. Total opposites...one loved, one not. One good, one bad. Makes for a truly interesting story, I'm glad I didn't have to live it. Arranged marriage, grief, death, threats, fear and love. This story contains a multitude of emotions. All in the beautiful setting of the Scottish Highlands. The suspense will keep you reading until the end just so know what is going on.. I couldn't put the book down. What a wonderful read
Another wonderful story by Admina Young. It is full of love, hate, mystery, and betrayal. Not uncommon for the time period of this book, Hiram and Heather are to wed via an arranged marriage. It is not what either of them want but when they meet they cannot deny there is a connection. What ensues is another very good story! As always, I am looking forward to her next book.
Part of the A Scottish Medieval Historical Romance series I was not putting down until I finished reading it. Heather and Hiram's story has suspense, drama, lies, and romance. But there where a couple of things that did not pertain to that time period T-shirts, and Doctor instead of Healer just being two of them.
Oh my...the intense betrayal in this family !! You’re hooked and just have to keep reading to see what’s gonna happen....THEN when you think everything is ok...BAMM !! You’re right back in it. Great Book! Love the characters, they are so intense !!
Awesome awesome storyline and characters! Lots of drama, evil, devastation. Adamina Young is an excellent writer! Her characters are so powerful and approachable! Everyone will love this book.
