AIRBORNE by Diann Mills is a Christian romantic suspense/mystery written before the current pandemic, this book is another type of viral nightmare that kept me turning the pages.

Houston FBI agent Heather Lawrence is on a flight alone to a vacation previously planned for herself and her husband to attend the famous Salzburg Music Festival in Germany. Not even over the Atlantic yet, several passengers begin exhibiting horrific viral symptoms of an unknown origin. As Heather helps the flight attendants where she can, she fears she is witnessing a viral epidemic similar to the type her estranged husband studies for a living. As she works to help other passengers, she prays for not only her own safety but that of her unborn child.

Dr. Chad Lawrence is separated from his wife of eight years. When he returned from his last trip with Doctors Without Borders, he announced that his career took precedence over his wife and any future together and that their marriage was over. He moved out and was planning to move to Atlanta for a job with the CDC, but that is now on hold as he is the prime suspect of the FBI in the viral attack on Heather’s plane.

The plane is rerouted to NYC for hospitalization of the sick passengers and all of those not showing symptoms are isolated on an island off the coast. Heather is tasked with discovering who on the plane released the virus and if her estranged husband is involved.

I enjoyed this book’s compelling main characters and the intense study of their relationship. At first, Chad really rubbed me the wrong way until I learned the reason for his actions with Heather. The questioning of beliefs and actions by both Heather and Chad in their relationship felt realistic and had me vested in the resolution. The underlying conflict between Heather’s religious beliefs and her husband’s atheism is woven throughout the story as well as other secondary character’s religious beliefs. The suspense/mystery plot is well paced and builds to a climax that was not a surprise, but was still satisfying.

I enjoyed this story’s main characters and plot and I would recommend it for readers of Christian fiction.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I decided to read Airborne by DiAnn Mills because the premise intrigued given all that is taking place in our world. You may be wondering why would one want to read a book such as this during this time. Well, I am a sucker for these types of stories and I just could not resist. Ironically, this book was written prior to the start of COVID-19. However, the events which unfolded were a far cry from what we are facing at the present.

The story introduces FBI agent and Behavioural Analyst Heather Lawrence, who is heading to Salzburg, Germany for vacation. She needed the time away to evaluate her life and prepare herself to once again live as a single woman. In the middle of the flight some passengers fell ill, with a few succumbing to the illness. Somehow Heather was among those who were immune. The plane had to be redirected to New York where the sick passengers were transported to the hospital and those not displaying any symptoms were quarantined on Adams Island. The question was where did the virus originate and who was behind it. Heather’s ex-husband, Chad, headed the suspect list because of his work with viruses and his to end his marriage. Was he guilty or is someone trying to frame him?

The characters were persons one could relate to. Heather and Chad are experience marital problems. Heather is a Christian while husband is an atheist. This was a huge issue and the primary reason for the breakdown of their marriage. The author portrayed their struggles with communication, doubts, unbelief and trust quite eloquently. I enjoyed the character growth, especially as it relates to Chad. The reader also gets the religious views of a few of the secondary characters along with that of the protagonists. This was well done and did not have a preachy tone.

Now among these characters lay the villain behind the releasing of the virus. Each one was a suspect, as they all had motive and opportunity. I had a fair idea who may have been behind the mess, but it was not until near the end that the author confirmed my theory.

The author utilised the first and third person POVs to narrate the story. The author used the third person for the main characters while she applied the first person POV to the antagonist. The story does not provide much of the first person POV, but when it does it’s clear, this person is not only deadly but thinks highly of himself.

The pacing was slow and steady and not what one would expect with a suspense novel, but it worked well for this story. One thing for sure, I couldn’t wait to find to what was going to happen next.

Conclusion/Recommendation
I had a wonderful time with this book and would be reading more from this author. Airborne will appeal to readers who enjoy inspirational suspense novels.

Airborne is the perfect story for this time and this place. It’s not about COVID-19, but it is about a deadly virus. More amazing, however, is the fact that DiAnn Mills wrote the story several years ago. Who could have predicted that Airborne would be released in the middle of a global pandemic?

The story follows FBI agent Heather Lawrence. En route to a needed vacation in Germany, Heather’s flight is sabotaged by a deadly virus outbreak. People are dying, but not everyone. Heather seems immune to it, as do others. The flight is diverted to New York, where the sick are hospitalized and the healthy are quarantined. The prime suspect is Heather’s soon-to-be-ex husband, a doctor who specializes in studying viruses just like this one. As more passengers from yhe plane die, the race is on to identify and seize the person responsible before there’s another outbreak.

If you think that’s an awful lot of story for one book, you’re right. But it’s an awesome story! Let me tell you why.

A story about a virus could easily get bogged down by the science. That didn’t happen. There’s actually very little science, yet I didn’t feel anything was lacking in that area. We learn what we need to know about the virus and nothing more. I much appreciated that. I think some authors try to impress their readers by throwing in technical, scientific tidbits that serve no other purpose. This author must feel that less is more - and it is.

DiAnn Mills may not have dazzled me with science (thank you), but she did dazzle me with the in-depth characters. She goes deep into the relationship between Heather and her husband. How did the fabric of their marriage get so thin? Could Heather do her duty to the country if it meant sending her husband to prison? Will her husband discover the secret she’s been keeping? We learn the answers to all these questions and more.

An underlying theme to the marital problems is religion. Heather is religious and her doctor husband is an atheist. Some of the other characters also share their views on religion. I thought the religious overtones were weaved very nicely throughout the story.

In trying to determine who the real antagonist is, I felt like Mills put the characters in front of us like they were in a police line up. We learn a little more about each potential antagonist as the story goes on. They each have their reasons, and it’s very easy to dislike them. It could be any one of them.

I thought the point-of-view (POV) used by the author was very interesting. The entire story was told in the third person, except for the chapters explicitly in the mind of the antagonist. Those were told in the first person. There was no way I could discern who it was based on those chapters, but it does allow the reader to get inside the head of a very evil and nasty person.

The pacing was on point. I can’t really say too much about it without giving spoilers, but I will say that once the steady pace begins to quicken into the climax, it’s likely you won’t want to put it down. I didn’t.

The character arcs were appropriate, and the editing was commendable.

If you or anyone you know has been impacted by COVID-19, you should read this story. Maybe you can see some light at the end of the tunnel. (But it could be the train.)

I’m a fan of DiAnn Mills, and this story did not disappoint me. I highly recommend it.

Quit on page 152. I wanted a thriller. I got a (romance?) story about a separated couple and discussions about God and faith on just about every second page. I just can't take it any more. If you are looking for a christian novel this may be a book for you. But this is not my cup of tea.

Talk about a timely read! As soon as I heard about this new title from DiAnn Mills, I knew I would have to read it ASAP. The thought of a quick-acting virus being released on an international flight is terrifying. Heather is an FBI agent who finds herself extending aid to one passenger after another as the virus takes hold. Then there is the necessary quarantine once the plane is brought down in NYC. Could the person who unleashed the virus be hiding in plain sight? In this time of COVID-19, it was helpful to read about the process of studying a virus and its source and all the steps needed to come up with an antiviral. My hat is off to the scientists who do all the meticulous work to bring us a vaccine. There are some surprising twists in the plot and the romance is squeaky clean. Recommended!

A big thank you to Tyndale House and Edelweiss+ for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

Sure, it’s a clean read, and I do appreciate that, but I just can’t get to the five stars so many others can. Feel free to read my reasoning below. I know it seems like I’m writing spoilers, but I’m really not.

Mills doesn’t waste any time getting into it. We immediately find out a virus has been unleashed on passengers of an airborne flight. Considering our current Covid situation, I was intrigued by this premise and wanted to give this book a chance, even though I’m fairly picky about my Christian authors (due to hokey-ness or preachy-ness).

And here is Mills’ first major mistake: the FBI’s first major suspect in this act of bioterrorism. The main character, FBI agent Heather Lawrence, is on the plane. By herself- because her husband has been begging her for a divorce. Her husband also happens to work for the CDC researching and studying viruses and is passionate about helping people and finding cures. Which this all apparently makes the perfect storm. Clearly he MUST have released the virus to kill his wife so he can finally be free from her. And even though there is no other evidence linking him to the crime, and even though his life work is stopping viruses, it makes perfect sense that he has turned so evil that he is willing to kill hundreds of people (no, not the thousands that Covid has, just hundreds because we’re going BIG on this story) just to kill his wife who won’t sign divorce papers. I mean if that’s not 0 to 100 in 2.5 seconds I don’t know what is.

And not only does the FBI strongly believe they have the culprit, and all the media, and every person who watched the news, but his own Christian wife who knows him better than anyone is wondering if he did it too. People fall out of love (unfortunately) all the time. But they either divorce or one of them kills the other in a far more normal and accessible way- not releasing a never before seen virus on an international plane with the potential for a global pandemic. Someone doesn’t ‘just become’ that evil.

And then! We are told Heather has a secret! Suspense! What could it be?! Well, all we have to do is read one more page to find out what it is! She’s pregnant! Exit suspense. And then she tells everyone. I guess she doesn’t need it to be a secret anymore. And also her evil terrorist husband doesn’t even care.

And then! Her husband claims innocence and seeks to clear his name. He uncovers way more convincing and practical evidence on another suspect than what they have on him, gives it to the FBI and they say, ‘That’s pretty far-fetched, man. We’re going to need more evidence than that that will stand up in court. Why don’t you let the professionals do their job?’

And then! Heather decides she was wrong about him and decides he could not have been so evil and actually maybe they should get back together. Oh, shoot, he hates God, though. Never mind, not an option.

And then! In the middle of all this terrible chaos, Heather has the NERVE to eat ice cream. And I quote:

“Had she lost her mind? People were dying. A virus had the potential to kill people around the world. And she was hungry? Embarrassing. Shameful. And true.”

And then! Heather is talking to her husband and lists off the three suspects who have died over the course of the investigation. Then says, ‘And a woman was murdered here but no one is investigating.’ Suspense! Just kidding. That’s the first and last time we hear of this murdered woman. She matters for nothing. Move along. No one wants to hear about an unidentified woman being murdered.

Let’s also mention Mills’ sentence structure. Way too many sentences structured like this one. Can’t stand these. Don’t have a subject. Or her sentences just don’t make sense, several times I had to reread things to understand. And so much of her dialogue was stilted. Vocabulary that was unnatural in normal conversations. People jumping from one topic to something completely different in content or tone one sentence later. Back and forth.

Sooo.... I’m landing on 2 stars, because clearly some people love this book, and if you’re one of them, more power to ya. I’m not going to say ‘no one read this.’ *shrugs*

But in the words of Randy Jackson, “It’s a no for me dawg.”

I've read other books by DiAnn Mills and enjoyed them, so I was anticipating a good read with Airborne...it completely surpassed my expectations!

Maybe it is because of the current times (quarantine/virus), but this story seriously hit home and I could empathize with the characters and what they were going through.

I LOVED the characters. I wasn't sure at first where the story with Heather was going, but as I continued reading I couldn't help wishing for a second chance story. I think everything turned out the way it was supposed to and I won't spoil anything.

All in all, Airborne was amazing and I think it is going to make my top reads of 2020. I highly recommend it!

You will feel like you're watching a movie, or reading the daily paper as you begin this heart in you throat book, and you will be guessing whom could it be right to the end!
How could anyone be so evil? We know they exist, but so little regard for human life, but keep reading you will get a little look into what makes a sociopath, but there is a hope and we are all given a chance to believe.
I have read many books by this author and this one does not disappoint, it felt way to real, especially with all that is going on in the world right now.
You don't want to miss this one, but warning you maybe up late looking for answers.

I received this book through Net Galley and Tyndale House Publishers, and was not required to give a positive review.

DNF at 51%.

I read this and just didn't like it. Weird sentences fragments. Odd descriptions. (Chains of doubt hung like the artificial lights above them...Fury rose from the soles of his feet (Why are his feet angry??)). (If this feels weird to you, then you understand why I add to stop)

Plus these people who are in quarantine surrounded by medical personnel aren't wearing their masks correctly. And the people with a virus went to the hospital for antibiotics. No.

Wow this was super interesting, but let's be honest: It hit a little too close to home for 2020. 😂 Regardless, it was still a fascinating read and I loved both main characters! Usually stories with marital struggles\divorce are hard for me to read because I feel like both characters are being so irrational, but this one was really well done and felt very realistic! Really interesting read, but maybe pass on it if you're still dealing with some trauma from this year lol!

Definitely a timely topic...virus impacting multiple people on an airplane. The villain and the underlying motivations were well constructed. There isn’t a great deal of action in the novel and it has a heavy emphasis on the broken relationship between FBI Agent Heather and her husband Chad.

Looking for a book that will keep you up at night because you don't want to put the book down?  Airborne is that sort of book and I found myself reading it at work over lunch or on breaks and was sad when the story ended.

In today's crazy world (all of 2020), this book hits a note with everything we have dealt with regarding COVID-19. While this book was written long before this virus, the similarities are uncanny. Perhaps DiAnn is a bit psychic.

The crux of this story is a deadly virus released on a plane and the search to determine how it was released, by who, and why. The cast of potential villains is not large and it is hard to decipher who is the guilty party.  Is it who is being reported by the media, or is it someone else? Are there multiple players in this game?  I have to say that I did figure out who but not the why.  It was more of a gut reaction to this character for no specific reason other than they just seemed off. Not that there weren't a few other likely choices and I nearly changed my mind or considered adding another character simply for their behavior.  There are two chapters in the book that are told from the antagonist's POV and there are no clues given as to the identity of the character. The second chapter might lead you down a path but will it be the right one? When all is revealed in the end, I was blown away by the why. It is a very complex story and while there are tiny hints, there are no overt clues to explain why this situation has happened.

While the main focus of this novel is the virus, there is also a major storyline between Heather and Chad and the demise of their marriage. Chad is dedicated to discovering a cure for some of our most deadly viruses after losing a friend to one.  This affected him drastically to the point of cutting Heather out of his life. This wasn't their only issue.  Religion was a huge hurdle for Heather to overcome. She is a Christian but Chad is an Athiest. She knew this going in, but I suspect she thought she could change him or at least persuade him to be open to God and faith. Neither of them is perfect in this relationship and they both need to take some responsibility for the way their relationship cratered. I enjoyed watching them both admit to their mistakes and try and learn and grow and become better versions of themselves.

I appreciated that this book did not delve deeply into the science behind the virus or its creation. There is enough to set the stage for what happened but does not dive into the nuts and bolts of creating the virus or the research involved. It was intriguing to discover what they thought was the reason that some were not infected or become ill from the virus. Anything is possible when it comes to the human body and our ability to fight off disease.

There is a strong faith base to this story, as would be expected since the author writes Christian based novels. Not only is Heather a strong believer, but so are some of her FBI coworkers and a doctor friend of Chad's. I enjoyed watching their stories unfold in a way that provided Chad with reason to reconsider his non-belief especially when confronted with works from several authors he admired. Chad's transformation takes place over a weekend, but that weekend is intense and I was intrigued by the references to C.S. Lewis which sent Chad down a rabbit hole in his research.

Here are some of my favorite lines from this book because several of these are how I feel especially in today's society. I feel the author has captured our society to a T and not necessarily in a good way.

"Heroes are built from adversity."

"She craved confirmation God had not abandoned them."

"Children are the seeds of a beautiful future. they should be nourished and loved."

"...the world doesn't revolve around the next scientific discovery by a man who doesn't accept his humanity. Relationships matter."

"Every virus has the potential to take lives."

"One thing I'll say about the media. They present news in a way that initiates responses, emotionally charged ones. The truth will be exposed, but in the meantime, we'll hear facts and opinions."

"Love was more important than prestige, power, and position. Chad called those the three p's destined to destroy a man - or a woman."

Overall, this book is a winner and I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys romantic suspense. We give it 5 paws up.

Nicely plotted and with an interesting narration. Storyline is entertaining and keeps one reading. Romance, intrigue, murder, and an ending that’s not a disappointment. 👍🏼✝️👍🏼

PS Interestingly it’s written before the “pandemic.” The correlations are eerie.

With its fast-paced action, impeccably researched scientific facts, and super timely plotline, Airborne is totally unputdownable. I suggest for potential readers to schedule a few hours of uninterrupted reading time because they’ll surely be as absorbed in the story and characters as I was.

Content advisory: several on-page deaths, physical violence, description of abuse.

Airborne by DiAnn Mills took my breath away.

I saw a copy of the cover several months ago, and thought then it sounded like a compelling premise. Then the Covid-19 pandemic took hold and my interest skyrocketed. Having read several DiAnn Mills novels, I knew I was in for a journey, but my goodness, I had no idea.

The book was scheduled for release in September, but as interest grew in the subject – a virus released on a transatlantic flight – the publisher, Tyndale House decided to rush the book to press.

OFFERING HOPE

I had the opportunity to ask DiAnn how the rapid release came about… “Tyndale Publishing felt the story offered hope in the midst of the current pandemic. I had the idea for three years before writing the story, so neither Tyndale nor I felt I was exploiting victims of COVID19.”

Chapter one begins innocently enough with a vacation and a broken heart. Then there’s a nosebleed on the flight and chaos erupts at forty thousand feet. As tempers fray, heroes step up and the body count keeps growing, an unsettling suspect emerges. Red herring or guilty as charged? Hmm… not telling.

As FBI agent Heather Lawrence fights to stay alive and find the killer, her estranged husband Chad, a noted virologist fights to prove his innocence. Their battles intertwine as Chad wrestles with whether faith and science can be related or are polar opposites.

FROM RESEARCH TO REALITY…

I wondered how DiAnn’s research has colored her thinking during the pandemic… “I wrote it before. Edits etc were done and headed to the published arm of Tyndale when the COVID-19 epidemic spread across the globe. The reality of the virus brought to life my research and the things I’d learned during the research and writing process.”

For me, this book is a winner from start to finish. Heather had moments of fear and despair but stood resolute in her faith through it all. I think many of us can relate to that at the moment. Others came to faith in the toughest of circumstances and there’s an encouragement there. No matter what is happening around us, we can control our response and either look up, down or inward.

A gripping plot, clearly drawn characters and locations and a fascinating topic all make this a clear five star read for me. Airborne is now out in e-book form, while the paperback copies will be available as planned in September.

In closing, I asked DiAnn what her prayer for this novel is, as it arrives I the hands of readers. “Hope and a knowledge that God is sovereign in all things. His love is far more powerful than any tragedy the world tosses our way. Personally, I’m looking to see how God is glorified through this.”

Amen.

"You're in my way, a liability. I can't move ahead in my life saddled with a wife. Trust me on this one, Heather. I'll do anything to make it happen."

Devastated after being forced to separate from her husband, Houston FBI Agent Heather Lawrence books a trip to Salzburg, Germany hoping to salve her wounded heart with time away and beautiful music. Instead, the unthinkable occurs. Someone on her flight releases a deadly airborne contagion with horrific symptoms, and for multiple innocent victims, death arrives quickly. So rather than relaxing, Heather launches into full-blown agent mode; helping those that she can while ruminating on the fact that her husband's expertise lies in the field of infectious diseases. A small spark of unease ignites into a flame of doubt, surely Chad wouldn't risk dozens of lives to advance his career, or would he? Others agree; Dr. Chad Lawrence becomes the F. B. I.'s prime suspect.

Meanwhile, Heather escapes infection and is transported to a remote location for a lengthy quarantine stay, along with the other seemingly healthy passengers. It's then Chad receives this troubling text - "The hospital said Heather's in ICU."

There are so many great takeaways from this story; first of all, the story line is uniquely plotted; secondly, the author allows plenty of room for her characters to live and breathe and change perspectives; thirdly, the perpetrator is devious and clever . . . it could be anyone, it could be everyone, he or she deftly dodges recognition in spite of the F. B. I. 's fast and furious attempts to bring the truth to light. But more importantly, what I think readers will remember most about this story is the spiritual journey that the two main characters share; their authenticity( while excruciating and difficult) is refreshing. By the end of the story, readers will have replaced their contempt with admiration, admitting that the ability of the Holy Spirit to change a life from within is a beautiful thing to behold.

"Echoes of mercy, whispers of love . . . . ."

She thanked him. “My commitment to the FBI drives me to reach out to those who are hurting.”

My review title for Airborne is taken from DiAnn Mills tagline, “Expect an Adventure!”

She was quite bold to indicate to me as a reviewer that this may indeed take me on an adventure. DiAnn did not disappoint and in fact, gave me more than I could have even imagined from the pages of Airborne.

Here is the gist of the story of this unputtable down book. An FBI agent whose marriage is failing, boards a plane bound for Germany. Before the plane could even begin crossing the Atlantic, a whole bunch of passengers gets sick in flight, and some die. In the process of quarantine, the story evolves quickly from the who, what, why, and where around a deadly virus that some seem to be immune to.

Airborne takes you on a relentless adventure of discovering more about this virus and uncovering the why of its release. DiAnn’s writing is superb. I can say without a doubt DiAnn did her research on viruses and the science is excellent. The science is just enough for readers to understand what’s going on without bogging them down with “scientific jargon.”

The characters were well-developed to the point that I begin to care about them. There is a core Christianity theme in this book. Science and religion do not often meld well due to all the questions surrounding them both. Thankfully, this theme did not put me off. Matter of fact it intrigued me on a philosophical quest to do some research of my own. Author C.S. Lewis is mentioned more than once in this book. The quest briefly led me to a man I knew nothing about. A few of Lewis’s books have been added to my future TBR list. Here are a couple of quotes by Lewis…

“God allows us to experience the low points of life in order to teach us lessons that we could learn in no other way.”
― C.S. Lewis

“A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.”
― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Three takeaways regarding Airborne…

One, when books can transport you away from your own problems or the problems of the current world, and take you an adventure that you were not expecting – those are the books that are memorable and likable, but most importantly you simply cannot put them down to read for later.

Two, when books inspire you to look-up other authors and add their books to your reading list – that makes for a 1000 percent solid book to read in my opinion. Check out Airborne by DiAnn Mills if you want an adventure that will take you away from your everyday life and maybe inspire you for further reading of more of DiAnn’s or C.S. Lewis.

Third, this is DiAnn’s 80th book! 80th! Congrats, DiAnn on this fantabulous achievement.

Airborne by DiAnn Mills is the author’s latest brilliant work of suspense. A new deadly virus mass distributed through an airplane— could anything be more frightening these days? I have long been a fan of this author and her ability to create unique suspense novels that never feel contrived or formulaic. With this novel, she once again proves her amazing storytelling ability as well as her ability to do impeccable research that is woven in so beautifully to complement the story. I highly recommend this novel to readers who love suspense and good storytelling. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Wow! I am an avid fan of DiAnn Mills and when I had the opportunity to read and review her newest novel, Airborne, I found I was reading a novel that could have been taken out of today's headlines. As we all know, the world is battling COVID-19 and in Airborne the characters are battling a mysterious virus outbreak known only as H9N15. The outbreak occurs onboard a plane en route to Germany.
The main character in this book is Heather Lawrence, an FBI agent, who just happens to be on the plane where the outbreak occurs. Hours into the flight people began to get sick and unfortunately some die. The plane is ordered to change course to JFK airport in New York.

Heather's estranged husband, Dr. Chad Lawrence, happens to be waiting to start a new position in the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases which is a part of the influenza division at the CDC in Atlanta. Unfortunately, rumors begin that maybe he had the virus released on his wife's flight because she wouldn't sign the divorce papers. I must admit I was kept guessing all through the book and was surprised with who actually did the dirty deed.

I could tell you more about the storyline but I don't like releasing spoilers. So I will just say that the storyline keeps the reader turning pages at a rapid pace with a lot of surprises.

Ms. Mills has a phenomenal way of creating very believable characters that pull the reader into their world from the very start. That is something I always look for in a book because if the character doesn't pull me right at the start, I usually won't continue reading the book.

I loved the thread of faith in this book. One person renewed their faith while another found faith.

I would highly recommend this book to mature teens and adults who enjoy a good suspense novel.

On a 5-Star scale - 5 Huge Stars!!!!!

I would like to thank the author, DiAnn Mills, for my copy of Airborne. I received my copy for free with no expectation of a positive or negative review. The opinions are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR. Part 255.

I know novels are written long before publication. What amazing insight Mills had into a possible deadly virus being discovered and used. The nightmare she has created in her novel is one we know now as very much a real possibility.

While the topic of the novel is a deadly virus having been released in an airplane, there is little suspense until the very end. Much of the plot centers on how the FBI works to uncover the person responsible. An FBI agent, Heather, was on the plane and the FBI is overly focused on her estranged husband. He is an accomplished researcher on viruses and cures and had been recently pushing for a divorce. Heather's feelings toward her husband and his own attempts to thwart the FBI's odd concentration on proving his guilt occupy much of the novel.

I liked the timely topic. The agony of deaths caused by the virus was developed well and brought to mind the current worldwide virus situation. A clear spiritual message was included as Heather's husband is faced with the reality of the God Heather believes in.

There were a few aspects of the novel that puzzled me. Some of the dialogue didn't make sense to me, like it needed one more editing. Heather discovers a murder victim while in quarantine, at the close of a chapter. Then the murder is not mentioned for several chapters and appears not to have been investigated at all. And the conditions in the quarantine seemed way too lax for a deadly virus. Doctors and others who came in to work with the quarantined wore only masks and gloves. And the quarantined people moved freely among each other, even as successive people became ill.

Even though I had issues with some details of the plot, this is a very timely novel containing a number of relationship issues and a good spiritual message.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours. My comments are an independent and honest review.

FBI agent Heather Lawrence's life seems to be falling apart. Her husband wants a divorce to focus more on his career, the career that Heather helped him achieve! Now Heather is on a flight to Salzburg, hoping to renew her faith in God and gain perspective.

Dr. Chad Lawrence is rising in the scientific community. His work in other countries watching people die from horrific diseases with no cure has spurred him on to forsake all else, including his wife, in order to find a cure for the disease that one of his friends died of. Chad has no time for God, only science. He has no time for a wife, who is only holding him back. He has cut himself off from all feelings and has embraced his scientific world.

While flying to Salzburg passengers on Heather's flight begin to get sick and some even die! Someone has unleashed a deadly virus on the flight and now Chad is the main suspect. How can Heather ever trust him again when he has changed so much and he had the ability to create the deadly virus?

Apart from never wanting to fly in an airplane again I really enjoyed the excitement of this book! Of course being in the midst of a real-life pandemic made reading a book about the unleashing of a deadly virus a bit more scary than what is already happening around us. I liked how Heather was an independent woman, even though she was devastated by her husband's decision she was able to make plans for her future and move on. Chad was a bit difficult to stomach at first. But the further in the book that I got the more his reasoning came out and made more sense. An exciting read and one that I definitely recommend for those that like a good virus-related thriller.

DiAnn Mills has become a favorite author, so I was happy to have an offer to review her newest book, one that was on my to-read list when it comes out.

Reading Airborne at this time was especially interesting since it deals with a virus, and we have been dealing with the Covid virus for several months now.

Airborne was a lot different than Mill's other books. A lot of the story took place on a plane, and the main character was quarantined for most of the book. Mills did an awesome job of describing the effects and fallout of such a virus.

Heather made an awesome main character, dealing with the breakup of her marriage, being on a plane where a virus had been released, and knowing her husband was the main suspect in the attack. I found myself liking her husband and hoping he was innocent, and that they would get back together. (You'll have to read the book to find out).

One thing that really impacted me was the spiritual journey of one of the characters in the book. An atheist slowly found himself believing the Bible, and finally coming to know Jesus. The author wrote about this journey in such a way that it really moved me and has been on my mind. God does use Christian fiction.

I figured out fairly early who the bad guy was, but was not expecting the twist when it became clear.

Airborne was an awesome read that was full of suspense and non stop dram and action one can expect from Mills' books. It had a great ending, and I appreciate the unapologetic Christian part of the story. I highly recommend this book.

Superb! DiAnn Mills did an exemplary job describing the details of a pandemic situation in this novel. Written before we faced an actual outbreak in our nation, Airborne found it’s way to the publisher and emerged in a timely fashion. Airborne is captivating and intriguing and takes readers on an unexpected adventure.
FBI Special Agent Heather Lawrence boards a plane in Houston, TX, for a trip to Salzburg that she hadn’t planned on going solo. Her husband, Dr. Chad Lawrence of Lawrence Laboratories, is an expert in CDC and pathogens. He was supposed to be by her side, but he’d chosen his job over her and walked out.
Heather settles into her seat, and a few hours into the flight, she finds herself in the middle of chaos. Passengers suddenly become ill, and it’s too many to be a coincidence. Her specialized training as an FBI agent alerts her to the realization that someone dispelled a deadly virus, and it was running rampant through the plane. But who would be so callused?
The plane lands, and a quarantine facility awaits those who are still alive. Heather fears the virus will spread and claim more lives, but she opts not to alert her husband. After refusing to sign divorce papers, he’d said she was in his way. Had he committed this crime to rid himself of her?
I give Airborne five-plus stars.
I highly recommend adding this romantic suspense novel to your reading library. Order your copy today. You won’t be disappointed.

Houston FBI agent Heather Lawrence only wants to get away to grieve her struggling marriage, but hours after takeoff she awakens to mass panic as a deadly virus spreads over her transatlantic flight. The pilot is forced to land in New York to take those infected to a hospital and the rest of the passengers are quarantined to an island.

Heather assists with the FBI as they discover the virus was deliberately unleashed and the prime suspect is none other than her estranged husband, Dr. Chad Lawrence. As people are dying, Heather races to uncover the truth and struggles to trust anyone on their quarantined island.

Can she solve the mystery and save her marriage before it’s too late?

Just when I thought the previous book was DiAnn Mills’ best, this one knocks it out of the park. Riveting. Suspenseful. Edge-of-your-seat thriller. What more can I say? DiAnn is one of the best in the romantic suspense genre.

This story will keep the reader guessing until the end. It’s full of twists and turns. The characters are superb. Imagery amazing. Conflict riveting.

I give Airborne 5 stars. Once the reader boards this flight, they’re in for a ride!

Note: Airborne was written and edited long before COVID-19 struck our world. This novel gives hope in our pandemic.

I love DiAnn Mills and she doesn't disappoint with this story!
How ironic that this book should come on the heels of Covid-19!
In my opinion, this is her best book yet! I couldn't put it down until it was finished and I finished it in one day!
Lots of twists and turns and some I didn't even see coming! Just like wow!
I think that Heather is my favorite character. I like her because she wants to immediately solve whatever is happening while on vacation. She's strong and has a great personality.
I think I could relate to her in that ever since we got here to Florida nothing has worked out right. Nothing! I'm hoping that eventually it will.
I didn't like her ex husband Chad Lawerence from the beginning. I sensed from page one that he was up to no good.
I what I liked best about this book was the faith filled themes of this book a d watching to see how the people in this book reached towards God. Too much like today's world that's for sure!
I enjoyed this story so much that I didn't want to say goodbye to Heather and the gang. So very good!
I highly recommend this book! You won't be disappointed! I sure wasn't!
My thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book! All opinions are my own.

Airborne by Diane Mills .I was stunned by the storyline that Diane created in the timing of our current airborne virus.

Heather is an FBI agent going on vacation and trying to figure out her life. She and her husband are estranged and she is dealing with some personal issues. Aboard the plane passengers start getting sick and they realize there is an epidemic.

Heather’s husband is an infectious disease doctor. Admittedly I was not sure if I was going to like him. He was one of many suspects I was considering for the virus.

The situations Diane created for the characters really made you think about what you would do in these situations.

I highly recommend this book. Even if we were not in the middle of our own virus.
Violence - the virus does horrible things to the body.

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

The premise of this book grabbed my attention right away, with a virus released on an international flight. As FBI agent Heather Lawrence fights to survive exposure, her estranged husband, a noted virologist, battles to clear his name.

The characters and settings felt quite real and vivid to me, and the cast of secondary characters is woven in flawlessly. Meticulous research is evidence but this doesn't present as a science lecture.

I was gripped by the end of the first page, and read the thrilling conclusion while holding my breath. If you're looking for a compelling romantic suspense that offers hope, this is a must read.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher but my opinions are my own.

My first DiAnn Mills and I was so terrified that my anxiety would be on an all-time high because of the plot but I couldn't look away because it was so exceptionally written that my faith in God was boosted. Loved this book
