Smoothie Project: The 28-Day Plan to Feel Happy and Healthy No Matter Your Age

Rate this book

“It is impossible to look at the rainbow of options in Smoothie Project without seeing health on every page. I am, as in all things WEELICIOUS, sold.”—Jennifer Garner

Trusted family food expert and Weelicious founder serves up almost 100 transformative recipes for nourishing and delicious smoothies

Weelicious founder Catherine McCord is an expert recipe developer who helps families eat healthfully and deliciously. When her son started suffering from chronic nausea and her family doctors couldn’t help, McCord turned to her experience with nutrition for an answer, researching until she discovered a surprisingly simple solution—smoothies. She shared her family’s story and some of her favorite smoothie recipes on social media, and the Smoothie Project, a daily online source of inspiration, was born. People began to use her recipes and share how smoothies had become a force of change in their lives, too.

Years of witnessing the positive effects that smoothies can offer inspired McCord to create a smoothie bible packed with almost 100 of her favorite, tried-and-tested recipes. With guidance from top nutritionists, McCord also explains how to eat based on your age and details the health benefits of key smoothie ingredients, so you can:
• Reduce stress and anxiety
• Lose weight
• Control ADHD symptoms
• Boost your immune system
• Improve digestion
• Increase your energy
• Eat to support pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Have beautiful, strong skin, hair, and nails
• Encourage kids to eat nutritious foods
• And more…

McCord offers a way to change your life in just twenty-eight days, using only your blender. All you have to do is commit to having one of her smoothies each morning for a month, and every glass will bring you one step closer to achieving your goals.

I came to this book as someone who's been making smoothies for my kids for several years, wanting some new ideas. Whether you're new to the smoothie game or not, this book delivers that, imo. It's broken into sections based on what type of flavor and nutrition you're looking for, which I like because you can skip over what doesn't serve you. My kids eat tons of fruit, for instance, so I don't like fruit-heavy smoothies and could skip that whole section. The green section was more my jam. Each recipe also includes boosters you can add for additional nutrition.

I didn't find any winners for the kids in the handful of recipes I tried, but I got a few ingredient ideas to add to my base recipe of avocado, spinach, and banana (I am stubbornly loyal to this base, apparently). Dates are a great flavor addition, so long as you have a good enough blender (my bullet doesn't do too well with them), and chocolate and vanilla protein powder are game changers. A little goes a long way, and I'm not looking to up their protein intake that much, so I don't even add a whole serving to improve the taste. They've been liking it, so far.

These recipes work for kids and adults (there are a few coffee-based ones), but as I limit my carbs, there isn't really anything for me here. A low-carb smoothie is a tough hack, but some of these can be altered to cater to that, and there is one Keto-friendly recipe. Overall, if you're looking to really commit to the smoothie game and want variety, this book has a good range for your palate.

I love smoothies.  I drink one pretty much every morning before heading off to work.  I am a creature of habit and do the same smoothie, so I was excited to receive this book as part of Abram's Dinner Party to maybe break out of my delicious rut!

This Smoothie book offers so many options and starts off with how to organize, easy ways to prep ahead of time, tools you will need, and so much more.  If you are new to smoothies or want to expand your horizons (like me) then this is an excellent starter book.

There is so much goodness in this book!  There are suggestions at the end as to which smoothies might be best to achieve a goal or address a health concern.  There is a list of Super Boosters to add to any smoothie you make, and even a discussion about fresh versus frozen.  I have learned a lot from this book and plan to share it with my sister who also enjoys a good smoothie.

I love the photos in this book, they are so colorful - all the colors of the rainbow.

I have been a fan of healthy smoothies. I encountered a health hiccup a few years ago from a medical procedure that went south. The road to recovery was a long one . After researching foods good for boosting your heath I began my smoothie journey. The Smoothie Project is chock full of easy to make nutritious drinks. I like how Catherine gives a little blurb under each recipe. I now have many options and can change them up very easily as well. Fabulous book. Also included are definitions of foods and such that guide you in understanding the value in them. One other side note the ingredients for the most part are easily assessable.

I know my way around a Vitamix and I'm no stranger to the smoothie making craze. This book has lots of unique recipes. Each recipe contains a side note for adding boosters to make your smoothie even more plentiful and healthy. I like that idea instead of the recipe including what you have to stick to.

Gorgeous pictures. And I'm basically here for the pictures!

I’m obsessed with this book, and I plan on making every smoothie in it. There is a ton of variety using whole foods and nutritional supplements or “boosts”. I’ve already made a handful of recipes and they’ve been incredible with unique flavor profiles. There were a few people who mentioned in Amazon reviews that the ingredients are expensive, so I wanted to address that. Most fresh items can either be frozen or bought frozen and will then last a long time. My pantry was already stocked with most of the supplements/boosts, but if you don’t already have these items you can find reasonable prices on them at Trader Joe’s, Amazon, or even Walmart in some cases. They last forever.

Nothing groundbreaking but lots of good ideas

This book is full of inspiration for making smoothies! Not that I am in a smoothie flavor rut, but if I was it would be a great choice for adding variety. I do feel inspired to continue making a smoothie daily, and sneaking in some veggies for better nutrition. If you can find a good deal on this book (I did when I bought it for my Kindle) then I would say it is absolutely worth it. Nothing groundbreaking, but lots of good ideas for smoothies.

When her son developed food issues, Catherine McCord developed The Smoothie Project, a collection of yummy-sounding smoothies. They're designed to help people with food issues or who just want to eat healthier. All the "weird" ingredients like reishi or ashwaghanda are all-natural and help with a variety of conditions. I've already tried the Detox smoothie, with banana, apple, pineapple and spinach, and it was delicious! I'm excited to try more!

Very good resource and I was able to talk to the author on instagram- very nice lady, I even shared my smoothie recipe with her. If you are curious about smoothies and overall health- you’ll love this. I learned about some new foods to use and I’ve been on a smoothie a day for three years and it has transformed my health. Highly recommended!

Such a beautiful book with great recipes and lots of good info as well. I’ve tried several smoothies and they are all tasty, well balanced (carbs/fats/protein), and keep me and my children full. My kids even have been WILLINGLY putting spinach in their smoothies because they follow her cherry chocolate recipe exactly. Can’t wait to try more of her recipes.

Beautiful color photos with tempting recipes. Plenty of details listing the positive effects of certain ingredients. So many recipes include cauliflower. I’m new to smoothies, so maybe it’s fine. I have several recipes (that do not include cauliflower and one with it ) to try so I’m happy I read the book.

The recipes call for ingredients that are too expensive or unavailable at my grocery store. Good for her that she can get passionfruit at her store or use collagen peptides in a smoothie but it’s not accesible for most people.

Delicious and easy to make. Some really good kids options too if yours are picky. I did find I had to add extra liquid to all the recipes tho.
