Karis Begay is the only surviving heir to the Begay wolves of the Alaskan Pack. Someday she will take her place as Pack Mother which is a lifelong burden she has always carried with pride. It kept her isolated from others and hesitant to let anyone close to her. As she enters her freshman year at Archibald Reynolds College, no one knows who she is or who she is destined to become. It’s a chance at a fresh start, and just maybe... the beginning of something new.
Damon Rossi has been on his own, torn between two packs, most of his life. His true family was found in his brothers of Delta Omega Gamma. Sadness and depression loom over him as he faces his senior year not ready to move on to the next chapter in his life. That is, until he catches the scent of his one true mate. That scent drives his wolf wild as Damon struggles to dominate the previously docile creature as it surges with newfound powers he doesn’t understand.
Damon will do anything to be with Karis, but how will he respond when she tells him her secret—mating her seals his fate as Alpha.
When Karis’s life is threatened, Damon’s powers peak. Can he control them? Or will his wolf be too powerful? Will he find peace with his spirit animal in time to save Karis or face the regret of lost love?
Julie Trettel is a USA Today Bestselling Author of Paranormal Romance. She comes from a long line of story tellers. Writing has always been a stress reliever and escape for her to manage the crazy demands of juggling time and schedules between work and an active family of six. In her “free time,” she enjoys traveling, reading, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.
This one was a bit cheesy and fluffy. It didn’t have a lot of depth but it made up for it with the background and world building. The romance was pretty instant and didn’t have a whole lot of growing pains that I expected a new and intense mating romance to have.
We didn’t really see a whole lot of life of campus life unless you count the parties. I thought that her first romance before she got with Damon was broken off with grace so that was nice. The ending was a bit overdone, as I felt the big bad was really just fluff to close out the romance. It wasn’t necessariy and didn’t have any foreshadowing so when he came up as the BB I was quite surprised. I won’t be reading more in this series.
OMG! I can’t help but sound like a broken record, but Ms. Trettel has done it again! "Pack’s Promise" is the latest amazing, PNR stand-alone that’s kind of a spin-off from her other phenomenal series and IMHO deserves 6 stars! I was hooked from the start not wanting to stop whenever my real life got in the way! lol ;) I can always count on a fresh, new storyline from this author, never a ho-hum carbon copy! A brand new shifter romance with suspense & likable characters, some new and some past familiar favorites drop in to add to the ever-present witty dialogue. Plus, I can’t forget to mention the attention to detail and surprise twists that will have readers glued to their seats & turning pages like crazy! Even tho I always volunteer to read this author’s books early, I’ve already preordered my own kindle book to keep forever. So yes, I honestly recommend this to adult fans of fiction and will always continue to look forward to more of these fantastic must reads!
The storyline is awesome. The only thing that gets a bit annoying is there are a lot of parts in this book that seem like the character is telling the reader a story. I usually don't mind this style of writing but sometimes I like to feel as though (me as the reader) I'm wanting to experience the situation (whatever it may be) with the character. I'm wanting more details, not just hearing it be told to me. Similar to how most epilogue are written, this is how a lot of the story is written, as if someone is just telling a story. Hopefully my explanation makes sense. If that style of writing is your thing thn this story is definitely for you 😁
I got this as an audible. The plot was ok. It was a get to know your mate more than anything. There were parts that I really did enjoy. The smexy times were vaguely glossed over. To me that's just as important as anything else. That's why the 3 stars.

A very simple college love story meets urban fantasy. There are some good things in this story, but unfortunately they are hidden under an unpleasant pile that consists of: - Immature main character who is afflicted with 'I don't know what I want, and I will insist on ignoring all my instincts just because, and date a guy my inner wolf is repulsed by for no other reason than my stubbornness and stupidity' disease for the first part of the book; - Unimaginative love interest who is 'the hottest guy on campus' and 'slept with everything that moves, save for a friend's sister', but who turns into a lovesick saint and decides that the world rotates around the main character the moment he sees her; - A roommate who was supposed to be her best friend, but turned out to be a throw-away brainless character who is deaf to anything but gossip and acts like she can't really think for herself + female characters who say 'you have a relationship where you can talk to you partner about absolutely anything, even when he irritates you? How terrible! You need girlfriends immediately!' + male side characters who behave like teenage girls.
- And, most importantly, very...unsophisticated writing. It's not only the abundance of syntax and punctuation mistakes, and occasional lines that looked like the author didn't really know the correct way to use the words she used, it's the fact that there's a whole lot of telling and hardly any showing, and the overall tone that is very childish and naive. It's just not enjoyable to read, corny, and artless.
Karis Begay is going away from her pack in Alaska for the first time in her life. She's going to college at ARC and will begin a new life having been self sheltered all her life preparing for a role she must step up to in the future being the last of her line. She has been preparing all her life to step up as Alpha Mother. She is ready to soar and experience all that a teenage girl should, problem is when she tries her hand at kissing a boy for the first time her wolf growls in her head, what's that all about. She soon finds out when she meets her new Italian tutor Damon Rossi.
Damon Rossi hasn't been himself since his roommate and fraternity brother Matt was killed during the war with the Panthers because of Jenna and Chase's mating. Now all of a sudden his wolf wants to tear into a new recruit that wants to rush the D.O.G. Fraternity and he can't for the life of him figure out what's going on, but especially when he wants to rip into Chase also....Soon he realizes that his problem stems from his beautiful new Italian language Protege, her scent has been on them all along. Now he must give chase to his dubious mate, but he does love a chase!
This is Karis’s first year at ARC, an all shifter college and she’s been looking forward to getting away from her pack in Alaska and enjoying life. But then Damon arrives for his 4th year and pheromones fly.
This is a very sweet story with no real drastic dangers happening. Just a light romantic quick read.
I liked the way the chapters switched between Karis and Damon’s POVs. Made it easier to know the current POV. But I thought Karis seemed way too easy going about all the girls Damon has had in the past, even hearing about the details from others. She should have at least been a little upset by it.
Footnote: 1) On the floor of a plane? Really? Even if it is a private jet it’s still dirty and there must have been other options.
Fave scenes: Karis’s unexpected Italian ability, Karis with Damon’s pillow, Damon’s alpha testing and Karis & Sabrina’s mission.
I really wanted to like this book. It had a great story line but fell short. First off, the characters backstories felt rushed. There's little detail given about Damon. And Kara's history was revealed in like two sentences. I don't even know what the characters look like as they weren't really described either. There was hardly any conflict throughout the book. If there was it was resolved in the next paragraph down. It made the story pretty bland. There also wasn't really any character development. I felt like Damon and Kara were supposed to be strong leads but as soon as they got together they both became sort of weak in my opinion. I felt like this book was more like a summary. Everything was rushed. It just needs more to it. Overall a cute little story.
For what it is, it works. The supernatural element is more incidental than essential to the plot, but it requires the interactions between Damon and Karis be based on their characteristics rather than the trope—my one true mate. There isn’t a lot of action or shifting; the major conflict is a quiet struggle of self-discovery; even the idea of the alpha male is subverted enough in this telling to keep me from relating it to any other. But because it’s character driven, I’m ok with that. Some may find it too stale or underdeveloped. On the contrary, creating fully formed people to populate a mostly trite world is a subtle genius. It makes the fanciful relatable.
I loved this book. The dynamic that is Damon and Karis is incredible. She knows her destiny within her pack. She has carried that responsibility all 18 years of her life. Enter Damon the womanizing wolf shifter. Soon to be mates to Karis and Alpha extraordinaire. It is a slow burn but 100% worth the read. I can’t explain it in words but I just loved this story line. I loved the characters. Julie made them feel like real people and it gave you real feelings as they went thru their struggles. Well done Julie!
I love this series. However, this one didn't do college romances justice. It read more like a high school romance. I wish it would have highlighted their initial meeting and romance, and focused more on the girl going home with Damon. I would have loved seeing their romance bloom under the circumstances of meeting her family. Seeing him mesh with the pack that would ultimately become his one day would have made a better book, and a more mature aspect to their mating. Too much time was spent on inconsequential things in campus.
Karis is the lone survivor of her family. Raised by her grandparents, knowing she will be the pack mother and must mate an Alpha. She heads to California from Alaska to the shifter college. There she makes friends with Tyler, also a wolf. But her wolf objects, when he kisses her. Meanwhile her true mate, Damon smells her scent on others, and his wolf goes ballistic. They eventually meet and work things out. A good paranormal shifter story !!!!
This was a sweet romantic read, all about Karis and Damon. They come from 2 different backgrounds but what happens when Karis meets Damon? Will he live up to her need to find the only mate who will be able to become Alpha of her pack? Loved the story, plot and characters, it was great to see characters from the Westin pack crossing over into this series. Some very sweet, romantic love scenes, lots of angst but an amazing read. Highly recommend
I absolutely LOVED the love story written for Damon and Karis! Once again Julie's story captures my attention from the very first page and draws my attention so much that there's no putting it down until the end! Their love is sweet, powerful, passionate, and unyielding throughout...just ike a true mate pair should be!!! It's a definite must read book!
Author Julie Trettel you have done it again! I love your shifter books and the way you intertwine some of my favorite characters from other books into new series. Again I find myself hooked!
This series takes place at Archibald Reynolds College, a college specifically for shifters of all species. I love the idea of going away to college and living among many different species. I want to live in this author's world! Just amazing! Keep them coming!
As another reviewer said, this was definitely more of a “getting to know you” kind of story. Nothing really happened after the MCs identified each other as mates. I will say I liked that the MCs didn’t immediately know what was going on in the beginning and a non-traditional case of mistaken identity. That was different and a little fun. After that, everything was pretty slow-paced. There wasn’t really any tension or intrigue until the very end completely out of left field. The antagonist definitely came off as mentally ill, and killing him outright without any real conversation about why he was the way he was or potentially any other options for subduing him came off as very B movie villain. We’d also never even heard of this character until the last few chapters of the book, like it was decided there had to be a climax whether it made sense or not.
The supernatural element is not a main go use of the plot which was kinda disappointing. If they didn’t talk about mating you would think this was a book about regular college kids. I wish there was more information about the school itself. Was it supers only? What did the community outside the university know about the school and its students?
The MCs were pretty one-dimensional. The male MC was a horny jock frat type and the fem MC is a faceless level-headed, bro’s chick. Neither really had a personality, so as much as the book was focused on their romance, I didn’t feel the reason behind the chemistry besides biology.
I hated the fem MC’s roomie. She started off stereotypical and then took a hard left into “Huh?” territory. She became a bitch so quick and would say some pretty shitty things to the fem MC, sometimes under the guise of trying to “help” her, and the fem MC was totally okay with it. I understand many people have leech-y, shitty friends that they have a difficult time getting rid of, but the fem MC had no misgivings about the way the roomie spoke to her. She should have kicked her out of her life completely.
This might be the bees knees for someone, but it was a little too boring for me.
I loved reading both of the Westin Pack and Collier Pack series', and knew that I would love this one as well. This series includes a lot of characters from both of the other series, as well as a lot of new ones that I have equally enjoyed. With terrific characters, lots of humor, drama (because you can't have a college experience without that! Lol!), angst, growling males, and unexpected twists, it's certainly a story that you won't want to miss. I would highly recommend that you read both of the above mentioned series prior to starting this one. Of course it's not necessary, but it will give you a better understanding of the characters, their backgrounds, families, connections, the different packs, and the dynamics between all of them. They're all absolutely fantastic stories, and you're going to love them all! Chase and Jenna, which are important characters in this book, their story is in the Westin Pack series. There are many other characters that are mentioned that involve both of the other series, as well as characters involved in this book that were previously introduced in those series. It's definitely a lot like real life where family, friends, and associates intertwine with one another. Hope you enjoy all of the stories as much as I have! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
This book was between 2-3 stars really. 3 is giving it the benefit of the doubt because of length.
The narrator sounded a bit old to be 18 especially when performing the friends voices. The story itself was ok- while this was a short book that I wasn’t expecting to be wow- it almost seemed to drag on some parts. The nice thing about this story is there isn’t much drama at all. There is no break up plot. This is one of the few shifter books where there is only 1 mate that I have read. It was a decent story- but nothing that was amazing. The action was at the very end - the last 20 minutes or so. The rest was mostly daily living. There was not much funny/silly banter at all. It was somewhat cute, but in my opinion lacking something. It was worth a read for those days where you’re not really wanting to either pay much attention or have anything with too much anxiety or stimulation. 1/5🌶️. The writing was ok-seemed either amateurish or just not hugely developed. Also- never figured out why the roommate made such huge deal about things besides slightly worried. She was very immature and annoying- I felt like it was very freshman year of college with highschool mentality.
Orphaned at a young age and raised by her grandparents, Karis Begay is a Begay wolf and destined to be the pack mother of her Alaskan pack. She takes her future very seriously so when she is away studying at the ARC, Archibald Reynolds College, she is surprised to encounter her one true mate. Having no true friends she is left to navigate the waters of mating with just her mate Damon Rossi for both advice and friendship on just what mating means. Damon, an Italian shifter sent to the US to live has never truly felt at home anywhere but with the D.O.G's, Delta Omega Gamma fraternity. Here he has brothers, but after he losses his roommate and best friend he is struggling with depression. Finding his one true mate was not on his radar and he mistakes a new pledge to the fraternity, who is caring his mates scent, as the reason why his emotions are all over the place. The journey to Karis' and Damon's mating is filled with secrets and changes that neither of them expected.
As the future for the alpha line of her Alaskan wolf pack, Karis Begay carries a heavy burden as she leaves home for the first time to attend college. The last thing she expected was to meet a guy on her very first day let alone hit it off with him so well one she had to consider a future with. But why is her wolf so resistant to a guy she really likes.
Hard-partying, lone wolf, man-whore Damon Rossi feels the loss of his good friend and roommate at the start of his last year at ARC and has no idea what he’ll do at the end of the school year and even less of an idea why a pledge for his fraternity upsets his wolf so much. Having met both leads in previous reads, it was good to see them both again in a cute romance. Rating: 4.25stars
I have never been a big fan of this author but I have read more than one book by her so I won’t say I dislike her either. However, out of all the ones I’ve read this is probably my least favourite. The start of the book seems like it was written in bullet points and just merged. Also supportive sentences will have words like “however” which makes no sense. For example I like her feisty personality but I also like the feel of the chase. It’s the same idea? The worst: using the word “except” instead of “accept”. Then using “except” correctly on the next page which shows the author does know when to use it.
This story has alternating chapters with the woman and the guy. I thought it was that Karis met and dated someone else before her love interest. Their romance feels a little weird at times because he is assistant teacher and much older while it is stressed She has barely just turned 18.
I didn’t like that the villain was obviously schizophrenic or something and killed off just as quickly as he appeared. There was a brief sentence where his crazy antics were stated to be because of his poor mental health and that he needs help, but then they kill him anyway. The author could have just made him a jealous ex-boyfriend or something.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I DNFed this book a little over half way through. The story started strong but I didn’t like the way they skipped right over the sexy time stuff. I mean I don’t need a lot of it or anything but it felt like I was reading twilight lol. And I’m not a teenage girl, sex is an important part of relationships and I’d like my books to have that part to it. And honestly I felt like it took away from their relationship and the story since there was a lead up to it and then it was just skipped right over. So I suppose if you’re okay with that then this would be a good book for you. It just killed it for me.
XXX! ADULT CONTENT, READER DISCRETION ADVISED. This book deals with mental health issues that are dealt with inhumanely and could cause triggers. That said it’s a book about werewolves. Katie and Damon are sweet. Still think Lilly and Thomas’s story is my favorite. Though Chase and Jenna are a close competition. Their story led to war. Epic! Still the love shack comes back in this story!!!! Kelsey too!!! These all have three things you can rely on gated mates, sex and a HEA! Okay four, there will be shifters too!
This is a very enjoyable read. The last two chapters - where most of the suspense and conclusion was, were over very quickly compared to the rest of the story. I was also hoping that Damon had a hidden back story to his newly acquired 'powers' Our heroine knows what she wants in life but can also express her vulnerabilities in a way that is empowering. Loved how she proved (without a doubt) to her flat mate that she was wrong because the way she was going on, it was obvious that she was just jealous.
A lot of sunshine and glitter. Two orphan shifters raised by grandparents, one with a heavy burden of the future. The second shipped away from home to learn to earn his place. They find their true mate witch days of the girl arriving on campus. *PING!* Enter love bliss and everything wonderful! She is majoring in international studies specializing in Italian, his native language is Italian and he tutors as his part-time job. She becomes his best student. The storyline was dull as many college themes are. I think there are 10 books in this series. So not happening!
