Zyke Stava is the sixth prince of the Heydar line. And even though he’s smarter than his siblings, his preference to read a book over going into a battle has made him the black sheep of his family. The entire Kingdom of Estola sees him as the weak link, so much so that an attempt is made on his life. But Zyke is saved by a handsome stranger who has just arrived from another kingdom. Even though Zyke feels an inexplicable attraction to his savior, he knows nobody could ever love him. He’s weak and weird, and love is for the strong.
After losing the love of his life to the former prince of Belaria, Omar has packed his bags and headed as far away as he can in hopes that distance will help his heart to heal. When he lands in the Kingdom of Estola and thwarts an attack on a young prince, he finds himself in the employ of the royals as Prince Zyke’s royal guard. But even though Omar feels a magnetic pull to the prince, he ignores it. He knows what heartbreak feels like, and he’s not willing to put his love on the line again.
Book Two in The Royal Alphas series, but each book can be read on its own.
Wow!! I cannot get over how much I loved this. This definitely works as a stand-alone, as I haven’t read the first in the series, but I plan on remedying that as I’m hooked on this world. This is my first book by this author, and while that’s always a gamble, this book just made me want to get my grabby hands on more. A lot of omegaverse books feel the same, but this was so different and intriguing. The world building was very well done (especially for a second book when you can probably get away with less) I loved the romance, and while I don’t usually like daddy kink, it felt so natural here and like a true evolution of the characters. It was great that the sex wasn’t perfect (sex isn’t always mind blowing right away!), and it just helped to further show the love and emotional connection. The politics were interesting too, and even if that’s not your cup of tea, it didn’t take anything away from the story, just added to it. I could probably go on, but instead I’ll just say that I HIGHLY recommend this one.
Love the growth of this story. Loved that even though they were mates they didn’t jump right in. I loved how they stuck together and fell in love. The added kink was a bonus. I did wish there was a slightly greater battle but I’m glad the Author didn’t completely change the MC. Not everyone who grows and find themselves need to be hulking strong. You can still be strong and soft at the same time. The writing was good the smexy was great. And I said great because thank you for making it not easy. Not all smexy time goes smoothly and to plan. Side characters were ok. Wondering if we will see the remaining brothers story?
Guard the Crown is the second book in the Royal Alphas serie by H.Q. Kingsley. It was my first book by this author and I really liked it.
I loved Zyke and Omar. I hated how Zyke got treated by his family and other people, but Omar is different from the start and I loved it. I highly recommend it!
I look forward to reading te first and for book 3.

I absolutely enjoyed this book! Don't know what I was expecting, but what I got reminded me of old school shifter books. Mates, shifting, which are not so out there in omegaverse these days, MPREG and a little daddy kink.
The plot drew me in, and I am kicking myself for missing out on book one, Bend the Knee. I will have to find time to read that story. What surprised me so much in this book, is the growth of Zyke, the youngest of the Eastola prince. Meeting Omar was the best thing that happened to him. I cannot wait for more like this book.
As far as the plot went, Zyke was the footstool to his family, often verbally abused because he was so quiet and not as big. When danger befell, Omar, the dejected best friend from book one was right there to save him and soon became his bodyguard. It was not long before these two accepted the feelings between them. But palace live was not all it was cracked up to be and Omar found himself in another war for freedom and peace. It was going to be a fight to the end. Would Omar once again help right the wrongs of a nation, or would he lose his prince in the end?
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
Well, this was all kinds of wonderful! Zyke is a Prince, the youngest son of the king, and for his entire life everyone has treated him badly because he’s different. He’s shorter and not as physically strong as his brothers and he’s very shy. Omar is an ex soldier who has left the kingdom he grew up because his heart was broken. At a party Omar saves Zyke’s life and the king asks him to be the Prince’s bodyguard. The two of them grow closer and feelings develop. Omar helps Zyke find his voice and gain his confidence and Zyke helps Omar find out what true love really is. The chemistry and the dynamic between Zyke and Omar was really really amazing! I loved them both very much! Their love story warmed my heart. As much as I adored the romance in the book what really made me fall in love with this tale was the politics. I’m not going to spoil anything but let’s just say that the King had secrets and was bad and unfair and something needed to change. This is the first book I’ve read from the author and I feel super lucky that I got the chance to read an ARC. I can’t wait for more in the series and I’ll definitely read book one. I received an ARC of this book for an honest review
Here we go again. Same story, different kingdom. The first book had Chase and Milo saving their Kingdom from Milo's evil father the king. This time we have Zyke and Omar saving the Kingdom of Estola from his horrid family. Difference here, Zyke is 6th in line to the throne after his 5 brothers.
Last we saw Omar he was licking his wounds after finding out Chase was pregnant and mated to Milo. He eventually winds up in Estola where he finds himself in the right place at the right time saving young prince Zyke from some thugs. This lands him a job as Zykes bodyguard as his family basically see him as a weakling. If you read book one you know we've seen Zyke before, briefly. During a conference of the Kings Milo comments on the embarrassment that is King Heydars youngest, clutching a teddy bear to his chest like a little child. The teddy bear is kinda like an emotional support pet, except its a stuffed animal. It's definitely odd for a grown man to cling to his sentimental teddy bear, but hey who am I to judge. We all have our quirks.
Things progress between Omar and Zyke after they eventually break the sexual tension with a kiss. Love is pretty quick here, but they're shifters so I don't question it like I would in a contemporary genre. Zyke was a real sweetie pie. Omar was basically the first person to ever show him kindness. He supported Zyke and never judged him. He let Zyke be and helped him come out of his shell and be the man he was meant to. Zyke is no dummy, he just needed the courage to show it.
It was nice to see Omar's heart heal and for him to fall in love. I felt terrible for him in book 1. He didn't do anything wrong but love someone who didn't love him back. Most people have been there and it sucks. Zyke was perfect for him in a way Chase wasn't. Omar is a protector and Chase never needed protecting. Zyke on the other hand shines with the way he's cherished and protected by Omar. It was a good fit.
The people of Estola are just as oppressed as citizens of Belaria were. Zyke knows it is only a matter of time before they have their own rebels on their hands. He wants to help, but being 6th in line doesn't give him any real power to enact change. Omar has other ideas.
"I've killed six people before.....And I could do it again"
" All you ever gave to do is ask, and I'll get you on that throne"
And so it begins. The path to throne isn't easy, but it's necessary if Zyke wants to protect and lead his people like a true King should. Zykes family are definitely assholes, his father especially, but they are not even close to as evil as the old Abfantu King. I loathed that character with a passion, while I just thought Zyke's dad was a dick.
I didn't like this book as much as the first. The first book had the whole enemies to lovers thing going on and I ate that shit right up. Though Zyke was sweet, I didn't really connect with him all that well. I was looking forward to the angst and there wasn't any here. I did like the book. I also look forward to book 3 which the author confirms at the end is coming. There is no hint of the next MC, though I have a guess. 3.25 stars
** An ARC was provided by the author for a fair and unbiased review **
A really enjoyable shifter romance between an omega prince and his alpha bodyguard. This is the second book in a series and whilst there is mention of characters and story points from the first book, this does stand as a stand alone. Zyke is treated horribly by his father, the king and his six older brothers. Omar is his saviour when he saves him from an attempted kidnapping and is hired on the spot to be his bodyguard. It doesn't take long for Omar's protective instincts to morph into more as his attraction to the younger man intensifies and they build a relationship much stronger than either would have thought possible. I love how Omar is immediately aware of how Zyke's family treats him and stands as a pillar of support for the young prince. He doesn't hesitate when it comes to protecting Zyke and not just physically. He won't have anyone talk down to him either. Zyke blossoms under Omar's love and care. For years he's been trying to be invisible and stay in the background but with Omar building his confidence and self belief, he is finally able to stand for himself and those his father should be protecting. There was definitely a twist to the plot that I wasn't expecting about two thirds in. It truly shows what Omar is capable of and what he's willing to do for his mate and how far Zyke has come since Omar has come into his life. I love how the story ends up and it feels like the right place for both men to be. I really enjoyed the romance and plot of the book. Everything worked really well together, there are a lot of characters to love and hate, and the story flows well giving the readers enough to keep you interested throughout without giving away the ending too soon. I will have to go back and read book one and look forward to the next in the series. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This is the second book in the Royal Alphas series by H. Q. Kingsley. It is the story of the youngest prince, Zyke, of the Kingdom of Eastola, who is mentally and verbally abused by his father, the king, and his brothers, to the point of him having no confidence and self-esteem. He is smart and kind where his brothers can't even read and they and the king are cruel to everyone in their kingdom. Omar is a soldier who has left the Kingdom of Belaria where he was in love with his friend but his friend fell in love with the crown prince after they had taken down that cruel regime. He settles in Eastola and saves Zyke's life thus earning him the job of his bodyguard. As they learn about each other they fall in love and Omar defends Zyke against his father and brothers and they are forced to leave the palace. They work together with the common people and learn about how oppressed they have become. They fall in love and make a plan to take down the cruel leaders. If you like hurt/comfort books you will enjoy this one as Omar takes good care of Zyke and helps him gain back his confidence. Also, all the characters are lion shifters and this plays into the plot as well. I had not read the first book in the series so a few things did not make sense at first so I would recommend reading that book before this one. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the series.
Omar has left everything and everyone from his life behind and one impulsive act has him becoming the bodyguard to Zyke the youngest prince of the Kingdom of Estola. As much as Omar hates the noble family, he cannot help but see the good in Zyke and the promising future of the young man if Zyke can survive.
I loved Omar and Zyke. Omar is a big bad man with a soft heart, and he sees so much in Zyke. He is ready to help the man and show him that Zyke is worth so much more than what everyone thinks including Zyke himself. I loved watching Zyke find himself and find the strength to do what he needed to do with the help of Omar. The two make a good couple and I enjoyed watching their relationship take shape. Zyke is smart and stronger than he thinks and seeing him find his place made for a good read. With Omar by his side Zyke can accomplish anything. Love and trust are things that do not come easily and these two find it but now they must fight to keep it. The author does a nice job of keeping the story flowing and the characters strong and developed. I was quickly pulled into this story and entertained all the way to the end.
No spoilers of any kind included. Guard Of The Crown I thought was freakin awesome! I didn’t really care for Omar in the first book Bend The Knee of The Royal Alphas series but he quickly became a favorite in this book. But sweet shy Zyke is my absolute favorite, I just wanted to grab him, hold him and tell him things will get better. Guard Of The Crown is actually the second book of HQ Kingsley’s that I’ve read and I gotta say she is a amazing story weaving genius! She knows how to keep her readers completely ensnared in the stories she writes and take them on a wild ride and leave them wanting and needing more at the end of the ride. So it’s going to be a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book. But a word of advice if you haven’t read Bend The Knee then I highly suggest that you do because Omar is in that story as well and Zyke was in a way first introduced there.

I must say, I enjoyed this book more so than book one. Zyke has this innocent quality to him, that makes you want to just hug him. But, he has this inner strength that he taps into once Omar comes into his life. Zyke, was the misfit in his family. The one that was never understood and always ignored. He found solace in the simpler things in life and when Omar comes into his life, he finds love, passion, care and so much more from him.
Omar was a heartbroken man. One who was angry with the world. All it took was finding his Peanut, to realize his true purpose and passion in life.
This was an easy, smooth flowing read. The characters were well developed and the bad guys got what they deserved off page except for the father. I hope we get to see more of the last brother though. One does not need to read book one in order to enjoy this book, but it is advisable.
I gladly received an ARC copy of thís book for an honest review.
Truth is I read it in one day I just couldn't put it down. OMG poor Zeyke I don't think I've ever seen a character so belittled by his own family and practically everyone around him and then to become what he became (don't worry, no spoilers here!!)
As for Omar he really was in the right place at the right time. I'd hate to think what would have happened to Zeyke without him. Even though he was a total badass you still got to see his soft side too.
Not my usual type of book but all I can say is MORE PLEASE!!!
Zyke and Omar were such amazing characters! Their story was a joy to read I never wanted it to stop. This world was so much fun to get wrapped up in. It can read as a standalone but is the second book in a series and this was an amazing second book. I wanted to punch Zyke's family and some other people but him and Omar were amazing together. I can't wait to read more in this world and find out what else this author has in store. The chemistry was really good and kept me hooked. There was also a lot of action to keep people entertained with.
Really liked it, supper cute and sweet. Zyke doesn’t fit in with his family he’s the only omega with Aplha brothers. His father and brothers aren’t very nice to him. I read this for daddy kink, Zyke is pretty much a little although that’s never said and doesn’t get too much into age play (but I wish it did). Zyke has a teddy bear bed brings with himself everywhere and likes to color and calls Omar daddy (eventually). Liked it, havent read the first in series but I might. Also hoping to see if Ezra gets a book.
How can you not love a book with a reader as a MC, romantic interest and the amazing man who falls for him. This may be a fantasy world, but the emotions and the characters feel completely real and their hesitations with each other, their fumbling around as they get closer physically and the time it takes them to learn to stand together is perfect. I find the world building here very interesting and look forward to many more in the series.
As the series continued, now this book featured another story in this dystopian world full of hate, intolerance, violence and rebellions. In between the chaos, a prince and his bodyguard needed to overcame self-doubts, intrigues, betrayal, family and broken hearts to find love. I loved how this story is like a very twisted and complex fairytale. I strongly recommend to read the first book in the series to truly enjoy this one, even if the book can be read as standalone.
Great Read. This is book two in the series and was a great addition. Loved the storyline it is interesting and full of lots of adventure. Omar is a strong character love his back story you feel sooo sade for him but happy he has found love again. Zyke Is a fun sweet character love his little differences. They make a great couple.
I enjoyed this book. Poor Zyke, his family sucks but Omar was able to give him the distance and courage to get out from under their issues. I loved how honest and caring he was, though I kind of wished that Omar would have replaced Teddy after his brother’s outburst. I am assuming Omar was in the previous book with his connection to those characters and that was why he left and was able to meet Zyke.
I thought it was a little strange with how caring Zyke is that he was willing to let everything happen with his family but in the end it better for the country and he was making big strides at the end of this book with help from Chase from the first book.
I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review
This is the first book I read from the author but definitely getting book one to know the whole Chase story. Omar is broken hearted having lost his best friend and lover but all that changes when he saves a Prince. I liked that he took things slow although his lion was pushing for more. Zyke starts as a very innocent and meek but Omar give him strength. It’s all very romantic.
The author has hit it out of the park with this book, is beyond amazing the relationship of Zyke and Omar a great vibe and the plots between the character was great love this character and the other can't wait to read more of this book.
It's been a while since I was so captivated by a book. The story line was great and I liked the way the author compliment the characters. It was such an awesome read. I absolutely love it and was sad to see it end.
I really enjoyed read this story. I love Zyke and Omar. They have such a sweet relationship and it is great to see how they get together. H.Q. Kingsley pulled me into this story and made my love these characters. I definitely will recommend this story and I can't wait to read more in this series.
Loved this couple! A sweet sensitive Prince + his Fierce Daddy/Body Guard = Hot af There was little to no relationship angst but plenty of other dickheads to be felt with. I can't wait for the next installment!
This was a well written book that managed to keep me engrossed. I felt for Zyke, but the best as a crutch was a little much. ...especially with him dressing up and carrying it out in public.
Ok so, that was weird. I'm going to completely ignore the description of Duke, that several people rightly highlighted. I don't need my protagonist to look like children/teenagers. There are plenty of tiny adorable adults, thank you very much.
Sometimes I really don’t go into a book with the right expectation. Anyway, this is a daddy little lite setup. Of course. Also mpreg a/o verse. Of course I should have known. But often i ignore all the clues and then is surprised! Agh.
I'm so glad Omar got his story. He is so much Alpha goodness. I love the different facets of his personality. Zyke is the perfect mate for him. And can I just say omg Teddy! Kinda cried about Teddy.
I guess I'm now drawing the line at character who is supposed to be 20, but litterally looks and acts like a 13 year old. (Hell the book even admit to that!)
