When 14 year old Jack stumbles across the unexplainable, a shimmering figure, he pushes it from his mind. On the gritty streets of Ningsham, there’s no place for the fantastic. Years later, his closest friends all have similar tales to tell. Jack and his group of friends, the Tiders, seek the answer to a question: Who or what is the cause of the shimmering? They have to investigate, but buried deep within a local company are secrets stranger than any fiction. Can the Tiders unravel the past and present to protect the future destruction of the world?
A brilliant read that will keep you hooked from page 1, Still Pause follows a group of friends as they try to save the world. The book itself is expertly written and has multiple phases that require concentration from the reader, but flow together well. It is an intricate and complex story that I just devoured, I could not put this book down. The plot is well thought out and maintains its momentum throughout, with characters that I was rooting for throughout, I loved the relationship between the Tiders and experienced every high and low with them. The villains are more than your typical pantomime and cardboard cut out types, taking their meglomania to the next level.
Reminiscent of Steven King's novels, this is an author to watch and I can't wait to see how the rest of the series develops.
All at once, his mind was swimming, spinning into a swirling dark sea. 🦄🦄🦄 When Jack witnesses a shimmer, something unusual and extraordinary, he doesn't think twice about it until years later. All of his friends have experienced similarthibgs over the years but no one spoke about it until now. They don't know what or who it is but when it comes time to inexplicably save the world, the Tiders must band together to get down to the bottom of this unusual mystery. 🦄🦄🦄 Still Pause is a sci-fi novel by Gee Scales The plot of the book is really intriguing and is something really unique and definitely worth the read. The book is a bit complex to understand and since I'm not a huge sci-fi reader it took me a while to get into it and understand the views from different characters and how their stories tie in with the time jumps. It is a little bit of a heavy read but once it picks up somewhere in the 30ish% (ebook) mark it really got me hooked. The characters have a special bond because of their friendship and that's what takes this book to another level since they fit together as a perfect bunch. Some of the stuff that happens, is pretty emotional and I was not having it. This book reminds me of a jigsaw puzzle that desperately wants to come together, but requires time and patience, and I have to give credit to the author for how plot driven this book is because I've read so many complex books that throw their plots out the window. There's so much I could talk about but I have to think twice because I'm worried it might be a spoiler. 😂 (Story of my life!) If you're into science fiction novels I would definitely recommend this book. 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 9/10 Melina L.
I enjoyed the story a lot, usually I get overwhelmed with having so many “main” characters, but everyone had their own fun personalities which made it a lot easier to keep track.
Minor typo, awkward phrasing, and a couple of continuity errors did knock me out of the story a few times but I understand that independent publishing can make editing a little difficult.
Will definitely consider buying the next book in the series to see what the Tiders do next.
Love this book. I am not a huge sci-fi fan, but this book is worth reading. The characters are well written and the plot moves at a steady pace, you are drawn in from page one. The story is easy to follow and is a most enjoyable read. Highly recommended.
