I have been in the stangest of reading moods. Lately my habbits include: getting rid of over-hyped books that I'm only reading bc of the hype, and going to thriftstores and online and buying random (like completely random) books that I've never heard of, know nothing about and binge reading them. I am a strange girl. In this new hobby of mine I have discovered a love for children's literature that I didn't even have when I was a child. I already love and obsess over fairytales so when I found this nifty collection of childrens fairytales, with gorgeous illustrations I might add, for 15 cents I just could not say no. There is really no review i can give of these stories that will do them adequate justice. You either love fairytales or hate them. I love them so I found this edition to be brilliant and I liked it enough to review it. I'm pretty sure this is an older book so I have no clue where you could buy a copy directly. But if you are into this sorda thing and happen upon a copy, then you should def consider picking it up.
This was a birthday gift when I was aged seven or so, and I read it innumerable times. Despite searching high and low these days, I suspect my mum snuck it from my room years ago and then sold it in a jumble sale before I knew it was even missing.
She did that with the majority of my things whilst I was growing up.
It's a pity, to be sure, as this is a fantastic set of stories. The artwork is classic, the tales are timeless, and the writing style greatly enhanced my reading ability as a child. (OK, I do recall being a bit freaked out by the thorny ending of Rapunzel, but otherwise, the stories were enjoyable.)
I suppose my next stop will be Amazon to see if they've got a copy, then. 😉
I loved checking out this series at my elementary school's library! The artwork was so pretty, and it overall stays truer to the darker themes of the fairytales, compared to the Disney re-tellings. I believe my favorite one in this collection was "Rapunzel".
