With the rising tide of steam power and machinery, who can come close to being a Beyonder? Shrouded in the fog of history and darkness, who or what is the lurking evil that murmurs into our ears?
Waking up to be faced with a string of mysteries, Zhou Mingrui finds himself reincarnated as Klein Moretti in an alternate Victorian era world where he sees a world filled with machinery, cannons, dreadnoughts, airships, difference machines, as well as Potions, Divination, Hexes, Tarot Cards, Sealed Artifacts…
The Light continues to shine but mystery has never gone far. Follow Klein as he finds himself entangled with the Churches of the world—both orthodox and unorthodox—while he slowly develops newfound powers thanks to the Beyonder potions.
Like the corresponding tarot card, The Fool, which is numbered 0—a number of unlimited potential—this is the legend of “The Fool”.
i'm actually conflicted because so far, i don't know which volume is my favorite!! all the six volumes i've read are equally great and i love them all from the bottom of my heart!!! but this specific volume stressed me out so much because this particular antagonist, which both klein and i feared so much, appeared almost every time, everywhere!!! just like klein, just the thought and mention of amon's name made my heart palpitate with so much anxiety that even a monocle can give extreme psychological trauma.
i don't know about adam yet, who's as formidable and terrifying as amon, but i'm pretty sure amon is the main antagonist here. i mean, there are A LOT of antagonists but amon is standing at the top. and he's someone i would love to take a break from. he's literally exhausting my emotions because i fear every appearances he make. but he's so interesting and i both freaking love and hate his interactions with klein.
i can say that this volume can be considered as a klein-amon volume. though it put me on edge most of the time, i enjoyed reading this and i love everything about this!
Bro, I'm so tired. All these happenings made me so so tired. My emotions fluctuated in their utmost capabilities in the span of reading this volume. I'm not even sure what to say first.
War is never good. It brings out the most extreme thoughts and emotions one can have. Layers of war really wrapped this volume. I love that idea that the beginning and the end of this volume is its pinnacle, stringing it whole. The events that was sandwiched on those two key points made me spiral into emotions which is mostly exhaustion because of the surrounding "darkness." Beginning with Amon's "dark" presence and the ongoing war darkening the world, and the end of successfully "seeking light," hence the title.
I think one of the greatest part on this volume is when Klein met the Moon City people. It's amazing how can one point of light ignite something within people. Just like how our little sun Derrick has experienced when joining the Tarot Club. From the past volumes, I've been thinking that Klein's "anchor" in this world is his small tarot club, but the faith subjected to him can expand in just a span of moments. Praise be to Mr. Fool! The question is, can those believers dispel his feeling of being alone? In this world? Especially now that he's slowly (rapidly) breaking through godhood.
Anyway, going back, this volume also put an emphasis on Audrey's presence. Her growth all throughout the volume served as a tool to witness the big war. She is our spectator.
This volume is shorter than the previous ones but A LOT sure happened here. Changing the fates of many characters and also the faceless people.
Volume 6 might be the most intense arc yet—delivering huge plot twists, thrilling action, and major lore revelations.
Amon is one of the most terrifying antagonists I’ve read in a while—not just powerful, but clever and playfully sinister in the most unsettling way. He constantly forced Klein into impossible situations, keeping me on edge the entire time. When he spoke Mandarin to perform the ritual at the beginning, it felt like I was breaking down right alongside Klein.
We learn more about the Forsaken Land of the Gods and the wider world. The City of Silver conclusion hit hard, with the Chief and Lovia’s sacrifice carrying the same bittersweet ache as Dunn’s death—painful, but deeply meaningful.
“Light was the meaning of everything.”
Meanwhile, the tarot club members continue to advance, enabling them to take part in increasingly complex missions. Overall, this arc was brilliantly written—a true turning point for both Klein and the story as a whole. It’s easily one of my favorite volumes so far. Based on my progress (88% through the complete book), I suspect volumes 6, 7, and 8 are shorter than the earlier ones.
First things first, AUDREY'S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT WAS CHEF'S KISS Her conversations with Klein were soo idk their interactions are always so comforting to me. (And it feels like Klein also finds comfort in it and sees Audrey as a younger sister.) Also the moment she placed her head against her father's hand and then left to help fight the war it was as if a ghost in my room was chopping a bucket full of onions next to me 😭😭😭
This volume had me STRESSING SO BAD. As much as I enjoyed Amon and Klein's chemistry ahahah that Lil Raven had me anxious af for Klein sheeshhh anyways I really loved the lore drop about the Great Old Ones and the whole bombshell of Evernight's schemes was JAW DROPPING(scary too lol). Ngl she has always been my favorite deity and when I found out that she is an ancient earthling too I was like O.O
I wasn't too shocked about Klein never leaving earth all along but that just goes to show how well the author placed the hints throughout the chapters from the very beginning.
Ps. I just can't get enough of Reinette and Aroddes ahaha I love them so freaking muchhh

Amazing. This whole series is brilliantly written with a very fleshed out world and magic system. I loved the Klein-Amon dynamic in this book. Audrey's growth over the volumes was also quite lovely to see. Overall, very well thought out series.

really liked this one but there are things that i expected to happen that never did. also it has very sad and heavy themes but that ending... gosh, it left me feeling a knot in my stomach, a crush in my heart and tears in my eyes all at the same time. so tragic and yet so beautiful too. i might do a better review later, we'll see. but for the record, to anyone who hasn't seen my updates, i fucking hate amon. he's despicable and not in a good way, plus fucking annoying. hoping he roots and looking forward to his demise. <3
I can see why so many people have this as the best out of the 8. The plots of Evernigh and Lilith as well as Sasrir and Rose Redemption are a great plot twist after the 5 previous volumes
Why the hell is everything in this novel miserable. Not only do they take my darling Dunn smith away early on, they also take COLLIN??? LET ME BE HAPPY YOU DIRTY FUCKS. LET DERRICK BE HAPPT STOP KILLING EVERYONE
Jk love the death 😻😻😻

Klein in every situation that's out of his control:LEODERO
Am actually more than impressed also am lampooning in Mandarin. the world building will Always and Forever be my favorite thing in the whole book ngl- And the author intention while giving details about the war and Audrey influence during the time oh man I'll worship.
CINEMA. Best volume of LOTM by far. Strongest start, great pacing, and equally beautiful ending as the other volumes. Elders Lovia and Colin were side character masterclasses. Amon was the goat of the chapter, as always.
《“I thought you called me at the last moment to give me your blessings, hoping that I will still love this world after seeing the world as it is.”
Klein nodded indiscernibly and spoke slowly, “If I wanted to give you my blessings, I wouldn’t have said that.
“I would have said, I hope that you will still love your family and friends after seeing them as they are."》
《“I used to think that I had strictly abided by the principle of ‘you’re only acting,’ but now I realize that I’m almost addicted to acting."》

I'm wasting my days as I've wasted my nights and I've wasted my youth...
Oh how he's in so much pain while laughing out loud...
Beautiful, just plain Beautiful. The best volume to date. The way the characters grew and saw qualitative changes in themselves in the face of war, while everyone else saw it as way to advance through their sequences, using the war as an excuse, just shows the stark contrast and realities of war. I'm soo happy that all Tarot Club members who advanced to demigod level managed to hold onto their humanity through the influence of Klein in the avatar of Mr. Fool. The Sun 'Derricks' demigod advancement description was pure brilliance seeing how it brings all the emotions, struggles and hopes of the residents of City of Silver to the forefront in crescendo completely overshadowing all of Kleins advancement to date.
I'm still pissed off about the overuse of words, phrases and character descriptions for padding the content and artificially increasing the chapter lengths.
Well, look at all these exciting revelations. After building up the world and the mysteries for thousands of pages, the payoffs are amazing. Not to mention the fights. Wow, talk about involved and clever. I really appreciated them.
“Life is always about encountering the unexpected.”
This volume has successfully become my favourite so far. From the beginning to the end, it not only maintained the foreboding, mysterious atmosphere unique to LOTM but it also roped in emotional and other positive sentiments such as hope and light, beautifully interweaving them all together.
The interactions between Klein and Amon- Klein's wit, intellect, and analyzing nature alongside his lampooning and Amon's trickery, cunningness, and nonchalance were highly entertaining to read.
On the other hand, Audrey's character development had been pretty solid. The conflict, her confusion, hesitance, and determination are all very well portrayed. And I especially loved the conversations she had with Klein regarding these- and his responses, it felt like seeing another side of Klein, the one he doesn't always express. What took me by surprise was Melissa's unexpected appearances, but it's reasonable and I highly cherished them.
The way this whole volume embodied its title is truly to be appreciated. Klein traversing through the darkness while spreading hope to those who have never given up on the light, that was only present in their hearts, in themselves, in their determination and will. They're all Lightseekers...The final battle had been emotional as well. When the Elder Lovia confessed that she had never betrayed the City of Silver before sacrificing herself and when the Chief Colin Iliad too inevitably died, when the light they had been yearning for had just been a few steps ahead...however they had achieved their goal. In a world that's filled with chaos and madness, where one is suppressed by inexplicable happenings and inevitable circumstances, one can still hope for Hope, crave for Light without giving up.
