I liked the sort of loose Beauty and the Beast retelling that was going on here. Especially since the twist was that 'Beast' didn't want 'Beauty' in his castle- but she wanted in as part of her show. Also, there's the added twist that the reason why 'Beast' is so shut-off is to protect his adopted daughter, so, really, you can't blame the guy. I blame the fly, though- you'll have to read to understand.
Ema bids on a date with the reclusive football player, Knox Sherman. She hopes she can convince him to let her film an episode of her show Live Like A Celeb. After a rocky start, Ema and Knox start to get to know one another. Knox is nicknamed “The Beast.” He does get overprotective of his daughter, his privacy, and eventually Ema, but he is a sweetheart on the inside. I loved watching Ema calm him down with her soft touch and her humor. The hulk references really cracked me up. I loved the nod in this story to Beauty and the Beast, and seeing such a strong man wrapped around the fingers of the girls in his life.
I’ll admit, The Beastly Groom by Cami Checketts won me over. Though I read a lot of romances, even a contemporary one on occasion, sports aren’t my thing – so when I came across this book with its quarterback male lead and former beauty queen female lead, I was a little hesitant.
I’ll put it bluntly: the book wasn’t perfect. The events were a little overdramatic and theatrical at times, and as an atheist, the repeated religious undertones from the characters didn’t appeal to me.
But, I still liked the book. It was well-written, fast-paced, flowed easily, and I liked the characters. (Except Mike and Paris, but who could blame me?) The romance was sweet and intense, and little Shelby won my heart over.
Overall, it was a nice afternoon read, and I enjoyed it. If you like contemporary romances and you are looking for a quick, heartwarming read, I’d certainly recommend you give this one a try.
Knox Sherman is a recluse, football star, billionaire. He is trying to raise his adopted daughter out of the spotlight and keep her out of danger of kidnappers and so on. Ema Kahue produces a reality show about celebrities lives and wins a charity auction date with Knox. There are some misunderstandings between them but maybe they can figure out their way through that? Nice romance.
I loved the story, but it felt rushed. I wanted time to see how the couple grew together. I waned to see how they made their relationship work with her traveling. I wanted to see his transformation from a beast to a kind gentleman.
The Beastly Groom: Texas Titans Romance Book 3 is by Cami Checketts. This is a cute takeoff of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. It is a contemporary clean romance so you are not inundated with graphic sex scenes which makes for great reading. What lengths will some people go to in making sure their families are well-protected? What lengths will someone go to in order to keep their reality TV show on the air? What lengths will someone go to in order to get revenge? Ema Kahue was more nervous tonight than when she was on any shoot for her TV reality show. Tonight, she was going to bid on a date with The Beast Knox Sherman at a charity auction. She had been trying to get his agent to get his permission to go to his home and film his life style for her viewers. So far, she had no luck in getting his permission. His agent had suggested she purchase a date with him at this auction for charity for vets. He was reluctantly going to be auctioned off and if she could get the date, things might work out. Her producers thought it would be a great idea and had backed her with money. She could do this. Knox Sherman was a reclusive man. He was the world-renown offensive tackle for the Texas Titans and was big. He had been raised with a large family and had always been one to stay home. He would rather be there than anywhere. He talked very little and made friends slowly. In fact, since he had gotten out of the army, he had very few friends. He had shut himself off from making friends because he could easily lose them like he did with his friends in Afghanistan. He especially missed Tyler. Tyler had seemed to have known he wouldn’t make it and signed over his billions and his unborn child to Knox’s care. He had finalized his divorce and made all other arrangements for his child. Shelby was born a month after Tyler died and Knox took over his daughter and her inheritance and made it work. He did his best to keep Shelby out of the limelight and away from her biological mother. Shelby and football were his life. He definitely was not going to let Ema Kahue expose Shelby to the press and possible danger. At the charity auction, Ema and Knox got off to a rocky start when she ran the bathroom door into him prior to the auction. She then intimidated she wanted to go home with him. It wasn’t what she meant; but it came out that way. That sort of aggressiveness in a woman turned Knox off immediately, or so he thought. Of course, Ema wins the auction and get her date with Knox. A dinner date wasn’t what she wanted; but it was a start or was it?
Ema is a rising TV star with her own show where she goes to the house of a celebrity and films him and his family and the life they live away from the spotlight. Her next celebrity is Knox Sherman, the reclusive, billionaire football star, who is known as the Beast. Knox Sherman is being bid on for a date to help his charity which helps vets and their families. He is not happy about it either. He stays out of the spotlight for a reason...he doesn’t want his daughter, Shelby, exposed to the world. He has a hard time subduing his inner beast and so he stays reclusive. After meeting, Ema and Knox feel a connection, but Knox doesn’t trust beautiful women and he exposes the Beast a couple of times and scares Ema. Add in a couple of jerks and we go on an emotional roller coaster. Will Ema be able to tame the Beast or will Knox throw away the second best thing to happen to him?
This was ok. The narration/voices were ok. The plot was believable and the romance was....well....ok. There's really not much else to say about this.
I was a bit disappointed as I have enjoyed Cami Checketts writing before. But this one just didn't do it for me. I hated the ongoing repeat of Black Widow's words to calm Hulk. The first couple of times was a nice connection to pop culture but then it kept being repeated and I'm like, c'mon, don't you have anything else to say?
This is supposed to be a clean book and there really isn't any graphic bed scenes, but the words to imply how they're physically touching each other, in my mind, borders into the not clean genre. There were so many paragraphs that imply it without really saying it. That bothered me too.
I also felt like the conflicts between the two were not realistic enough or warranting all of the "drama" that they put into it.
This was a great read and very enjoyable at the same time. The thought of being in the war and loosing your buddy's to the war was hard to take in. The fact that they were gone and only you came away alive. The beast, the nick name of the top quarter back for the Texas Titans and a lovely woman who he meets through his agent Claire. She asks him to let her in to film his home and ranch for her tv show. He says no one too many times that she finally wins him over and gets the chance to do the show only to have her photographer try to spoil everything for her and he looses his job in the process. This is my review,of this Free book, and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
I don't usually give 5 stars anymore, but that's how much I liked this story. Lots of interesting stuff going on. Of course there's the usual hyperbole, especially re looks and wealth, but the characters were so convincing it was like a real-life drama. I got into the heads of Ema and the Beast, their inner mental back and forth dilemmas and pain and sarcasm and irony and wit. Everything was not always sticky-sweet. Some very tender and sweet moments, but this author grounds us as well, reminding us of the dark stuff of life, such as death and war and evil people and misfortune. But hey the romance was great and wonderful. Love wins.
I am always up for a good fairy-tale retelling. Add Cami Checketts' quick wit and fun storytelling and this book was a sure win. There are some fabulous references to Disney's Beauty and the Beast and a bit of The Hulk thrown in there too. The references fit and the story flowed. It didn't seem forced at all. I loved the characters and want to see more of their lives. A strong, protective hero is always a draw. Watching Ema (and Claire) try to tame him was entertaining. Ema's television job seems like so much fun. Her spunky personality made me smile often. I am looking forward to Claire's story next.
I've been reading a bunch of Texas Titan romances back to back since I'd collected a bunch on my kindle. This one isn't my favorite of the bunch. It wasn't bad but just not my fav. I had a harder time with the Beast. His anger was kinda disturbing to me. And the relationship moved way too fast for my tastes. It fit with the beast personality but....
There is a little element of Christian lit in it but not a lot.
The daughter is cute and Knox was super cute with her even if he is over protective.
Sex: passionate kissing, body touching Language: no Violence: yes, pummeling and sexual assault
A great story. A big strong football star is called the beast because of his actions on the field. He's sort of a loner, very protective of his little girl and the few people he cares about. Then he meets a beautiful young lady that causes feelings he's not ready to deal with. A wonderful and exciting story that will hold your interest. I thourouly enjoyed this book and recommend it.
Former 'Miss Hawaii' vs. 'the Beast' of the Titans defensive line for the interview of her broadcast journalism career. I enjoyed watching these characters learn to trust each other and open their vulnerabilities to this new person the only recently met. It was a sweet and endearing story that I think everyone would enjoy.
I purchased this book in a boxset and voluntarily chose to share my review.
I absolutely loved this book{shocker...not}. I know I say that about every book this author writes but good.ness she writes some amazingly yummy sweet romances with absolutely adorable frustrating lovable characters. Thanks again girl!!! Now release that next book now please....
I enjoyed the romance between Knox & Ema & all the twists it took. I enjoyed the little girl Shelby. I enjoyed the relationship Knox had with the people who worked for him. I was glad that Ema had such a positive affect on him & loved seeing his growth. I enjoyed the bantering between Knox & Ema.
This story read just like a favorite fairy tale. A hero with no clue how exceptional he is. A heroine who wants to fix everything that is wrong with him. People working behind the scenes for them to see how right they are for each other. All woven together by a sweet little girl. This is a great read!
Another great romance from Cami Checketts. You just can’t go wrong with her books. Knox is known as “The Beast” both on and off the field. Ema really wants him to allow her to film him and his home for her show. Their chemistry is off the charts despite their attempts to control it. This story really held my interest.
She's a tv host - and he is a football player She wants to have him on her show -- but she needs to live in his home so she can profile it. She is so embarreded when she opens the bathroom door and hits on the head!!! He takes it all in stride . . and she asks him to be on her show . . . . and this starts a great romance! As always, Cami Checkets wrires a great story!!.
This is a outstanding book and heartwarming story with adorable characters and unexpected moments that will definitely have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.
Wow I don't know these books keep getting better and better. I love how this story came together! Fell in love with Ema, Know and Shelby. I contractually picture them.💗. How they have their ups and down, trusting issues but most important, falling in love 😍
I really enjoyed this fun beauty meets the beast love story. Ema and Knox are great together and the sparks flying all around them give their romance a satisfying sizzle. Once you start you won't want to stop until the beauty tames the beast!
This was a fun read from Cami Checketts. A takeoff on Beauty and the Beast, this author manages to make the "beast" both fierce and likable and the "beauty" is strong and courageous. I enjoyed reading this tale.
Another great addition to the Texas Titans Romances. The Beast, Knox Sherman, lives up to his name both on and off the football field. Ema is a former Miss Hawaii, career-focused, go-getter. Her toughest job yet may just be taming The Beast.
I have just found this author, and I am enjoying the way that she develops the characters and storyline. If you like romance that has a bit of mystery and difficulties, you will enjoy reading the start of this series.
Each of these football stories are great, entertaining & fun. The beast had endured a lot, lost loved ones & needed to protect his daughter. The journalist is feisty, not scared of him & generally sees through some of his actions.
He’s a football player called The Beast. He’s private and reclusive and protective of his adopted daughter. She’s a tv producer who wants to do a show on him as a celebrity. They get off to a really bad start, but there is an attraction.
This was my second Cami Checketts novel and I loved it! Cami's writing is wonderfully enchanting, fun yet serious when required. The story of Knox and Ema was great! :-)
