The must-have gift for Doctor Who fans of all ages!
Join the Doctor for a brand new adventure in the TARDIS! Jam packed with activities, puzzles, stories and so much more, this beautifully illustrated annual will entertain fans for hours.
I just got this. Haven’t started reading yet, just flipped through it. And it just hit me: this is my FIRST Doctor Who Annual. I feel like a little kid at Christmas. I’m such a nerd. A Whovian nerd.
(An actual review will come shortly).
Well, that didn’t take long. This was fun. The pages are filled with activities: quizzes, a maze, seek & find, puzzles & games. And there are some summaries of the episodes from the previous year. All nice stuff. Yeah, it’s geared toward the younger fans, but it’s all still so delightful. And there’s the real reason I picked this up: the connection to the big multimedia mash-up/crossover Time Lord Victorious. This offers some little factoids to get readers all excited. Really it’s just a glorified advertisement, a teaser to get the reader to buy in. In any case: I enjoyed it all.
Bought for the Time Lord Victorious tie-in, which was surprisingly very rewarding, providing some insider info on the story arc and new villains of this Doctor Who story franchise. The rest of the book would be brilliant for kids, although I did enjoy flicking through and learnt a few things about series 12 which I didn’t pick up on first watch!
Well, I've complained bitterly about the inadequacy of the first two annuals of the Thirteenth Doctor era; I'm glad to say that this winter's offering is a step up. The bulk of it consists of summaries of this year's episodes from Season 12 (or 38), but they are nicely done in the form of diary entries from the regulars, and there's also some exploration of how the stories link back to the rest of the show's history. There are also seven pages at the end looking forward to the Time Lord Victorious stories, promising us not only Brian the Ood and the Kotturuh, who have already shown up, but also the Eternals, the Racnoss, the Osirans, the Great Vampires, the Dæmons and the Dalek Empire. No original fiction apart from that, which is a bit of a shame, and some fairly pointless games and quizzes, but I would feel less embarrassed giving this to a young Whovian this year than I would have last year or the year before.
This annual was a short, fun read that provided details about series 12 of Doctor Who, games, quizzes, and a setup of Time Lord Victorious with descriptions of its key players. It was an enjoyable, but unnecessary, read. Therefore, I rate it 3 out of 5 stars. I recommend it for anyone wanting a refresher on series 12 without actually watching it. Children also may especially enjoy this book because of the games and puzzles it contains.
This annual is geared toward children, with quizzes, puzzles, journal entries concerning the different episodes of the 13th Doctors first season from the perspectives of the different companions and others.
