Sweet best friends little sister romance. Zach and Kaitlin have known each other since they were kids. They’ve always had a connection and friendship. Things take a different turn when they kiss on the night of a funeral, and then Zach basically ghosts Kat for four years. When he finally comes back home things are pretty awkward, but they somehow find their way back to a friendship, but could there be more?

This was a quick easy read. Got it free when I subscribed to the authors newsletter. You don’t need to read the first books to understand this one. It’s connected in a way, but it’s completely standalone!

Hook My Heart was a short and sweet standalone novella I received when signing up to the author's newsletter. Although this novella was short, a lot happens. And in some ways this story was your typical best friends sister romance but Odette Stone's writing style made the story more enjoyable. As always, Stone knows how to write the most realistic and lovable characters. The romance was very sweet but in the end, this novella left me wanting more!

Hook My Heart novella is a mix of best friend’s little sister, friends to lovers & second chance tropes. Zach moved to Kaitlin & Jesse’s(her big brother) neighborhood when they were kids & we get a series of flashbacks with standout moments from their childhood spread through the novella. The present has Zach returning home after four years away playing hockey in LA. The flashbacks were pretty sweet. The present was alright, but I felt like too much was crammed in for a novella-length book. Sometimes I felt like the obvious in certain plot points were missed or handled a bit too simplistic. Sorta had whiplash from one or two others. Overall I can't say anything really irked me much. It was more so-so than anything & just an okay read 🤷‍♀️.

Also, aside from the hero being traded to play on the Wolves, this really had no connection at all to Puck Me Secretly. I know it’s a series of standalones, but IDK if I’ve ever read a hockey series with so tiny a thread of connection. I thought there’d at the very least a casual mention of Max &/or Rory. I suppose that doesn’t necessarily make or break a book, but still, I found it odd & tbh I prefer a glimpse or two of previous couples in a series.

I’ve been reading and enjoying the Vancouver Wolves series and grabbed this free novella from signing up for the author’s newsletter. This was an okay read. Brother’s best friend romance between the heroine and the hockey playing hero. The hero just moved back to Vancouver after being signed for the Wolves team and his childhood best friend asks him to look after his sister (the heroine) while he’s out of town for work. He decides he’ll just move in with her and while both have fought their feelings for one another in the past, they’re ready to give in this time. The heroine had a surgery for endometriosis in the past and tells the hero she’ll be unable have children so I was not a fan or the miracle baby situation that ends up happening in this novella, not every story needs a child in the HEA.

This was a really quick read but it was very enjoyable as well. I’m really loving this series...with that said, Zach and Kaitlyn have known each other since Kaitlyn was about 7 years old and they have been friends for just as long. Kaitlyn’s brother Jesse became best friends with Zach which placed Kaitlyn off limits to Zach. One fateful night Zach kissed Kaitlyn then shattered her heart by telling her they would never happen.

Fast forward 4 years after the fated kiss we find Zach and Kaitlyn are no longer friends and Zach knows something is missing from his life but he just doesn’t know what. Kaitlyn is emotionally on a downward spiral that makes her brother worry about her and prompts him into asking Zach to keep an eye on her while he’s gone for work.

Everything changes and anything can happen but I’m going to let you read to see anymore because this novella was worth it.
Note that this IS part of a series but it’s a complete stand alone story, you don’t have to read the rest of the series to read this book but I highly recommend you do because the red of this series has been an amazing read.

Nice book but very unnecessary. The story was rushed and nothing really developed.

I want, more than anything, for you to disappear into the story and fall in love with my heroes as much as I do when I write them.”

🏡 “I’m still going to flirt with you like crazy.”

🥘 “Can I help?”
“No, that’s okay.”
“I want to.”

🔪 “You did that for me?”
“It’s nothing.”

An utter disaster!
Like WTF was this?????

I enjoyed Odette Stone's "Vancouver Wolves Hockey" series a lot. Her writing style somehow did it for me because it was just so addictive in a way. I could hardly put them down for some reason.

But this?

Well... for starters, I am not a big fan of flashbacks. That being said, this book felt like there was no red straw. Past and present were just thrown together so sloppily and kinda all over the place? Apparently you should be given a taste of their friendship when they were younger but it felt useless? Random? Stupid?

I mean I did finish the book and I still do not see any chemistry between those friends to lovers nor can I grip them? No development or them getting evolved? Nothing felt real and honest. Neither the characters nor the story.

Then again... what plot actually. I get it this is a novella but tbh the moment Odette Stone dropped that certain info/twist I just knew what was coming. smh And of course she sprinkled in some silly, rushed drama but thanks to the novella form it got resolved in like 2 sentences. lmao

I dunno. Maybe there was just too much in this book that rubbed me the wrong way trope-wise. But overall, especially comparing it to the previous books in this series and her gripping writing style, this was a huge letdown and it all felt unnecessary... I kinda feel betrayed by this disaster ngl.

This book was totally unreal. I didn't feel connected to the characters at all, maybe because the book was so short or I just didn't like both the leads.

H kept comparing the h with all his past flings and how she is different from them while h was such a Mary Jane that I got bored reading her pov.

H and h were childhood friends who fell in love like, just now, and h gets pregnant after just five weeks of dating, and then there were flashbacks as to why H left four years ago and how much h was sad and all but seriously this book had no chemistry.

For a short story this one covered quite a bit of time. I liked the flashbacks, liked how it showed how Zach and Kaitlin relationship from the start. I really liked that Zach jumped at Jesse's offer, all the time knowing he was finally going to do something about Kaitlin. I really liked how this one ended up, love that these two are happy. But I'd also love a story with Jesse and his next step in life.

Such a sweet short second chance/BFF's sister novella, with no unnecessary drama, just healing and love and a bit of spice.

Zach and Kaitlin. He’s coming back to Vancouver after playing in Los Angeles. She’s finishing culinary school. Childhood friends, best friend’s little sister.

She kissed him after her dad’s funeral and he rebuffed her. Four years later, he’s back and living in the house with her. Of course, one thing leads to another, and then we’ve got a surprise pregnancy and a pissed off big brother.

It was too short. Too sudden. I would have loved to see this fleshed out.

What a sweet little side trip for this series. Best friend's sister romance. Really a second chance as well. I wanted more of the story so that tells you how good the writing was. Maybe we will see these two again in the future???

This was a super short novella, under a 100 pages and very fast paced, so for that reason I won’t be rating it because there wasn’t enough content and even if I were to rate it I would have no idea how to. this book has a brother's best friend, sorta second chance/the one that got away, forced proximity, some possessiveness, hockey romance, and accidental pregnancy. It follows Zach and Kaitlin, who met when they were kids and got close when Zach became friends with her brother Jesse. Over the years, Zach and kat develop feelings for each other but keep it to themselves, until one day they cross the line that changed everything. Four years later, Jesse asks Zach to watch over Kaitlin while he goes away for work for six months and Zach immediately agrees with hopes of rekindling their friendship. Then we get to see flashbacks of their past over the years which I liked and how they got accustomed to their new friendship/relationship. If you want something super short to tide you over until your next read, then this might be for you.

Favorite quotes/scenes:

*flashback scene*
“Hey, Zach.”
“What?”
“I’m going to call you my friend, even if you don’t want to be mine.”

“How did you know to call me?”
“You’re Zach’s medical emergency contact.”
“I am?”
“You are.”

“How about we start out with that friendship we used to have. No pressure. Nothing more. Let’s just work on that.”
“Okay.”
“I’m still going to flirt with you like crazy.”
“Okay.”
“But when I’m in, I’m going to be all the way in. So, understand that if this goes any further, it isn’t going to be some fling. It’s going to be for good.”

“Now, Kaitlin and our baby, together in my life, I suddenly realized that this is what I wanted. This is what I always wanted. I just hadn’t realized it.”

“I’ve always loved her, Jesse, but coming back to her this time felt like I had been waiting my entire life for this.”
“You love her?”
“I love her. I want to marry her. I have no life without her.”

This was a really good quick Novella, that I really enjoyed! I wouldn't put this one as one of my favorites in the Vancouver Wolves, but it was still a nice addition. There's just so many unanswered questions!!

Kaitlyn and Zach have known each other since they were little. Zach became best friends with Kaitlyn brother Jesse. Jesse made Zach promise not to ever touch his sister Kaitlyn. After the death of Jesse and Kaitlyn father, things start to get serious. Zach then takes off to go play in NHL in L.A. Zach realizes he is missing something in his life and get signed to play for the Wolves. When Zach moved back to Vancouver he moves in with Kaitlyn in the home she share with Jesse. Jesse is off to do undercover detective work and wants someone to stay with Kaitlyn. This was a nice big brother friend falls in love with little sister Novella. I only wish a few more chapter would have been done so we know when Jesse came home from his road trip and what happens to him. Also I would liked to know what the sex of Kaitlyn and Zach baby is and what the name is??

3.25 stars. This was a good novella read. The end was weird and if it weren’t for that I’d add .5 to the stars. Zach, Jesse & Jesse’s little sis grew up as good friends w/Zach & Jesse being best friends. But one night Kaitlin & Jesse secretly fell out. When Zach decides to transfer to a hometown team he meets his good friend Jesse, but he also decides to mend his friendship with Kaitlin.

What I liked: Zach & Jesse were real characters. Their actions, for the most part, made sense. 1) I tell you what, there is nothing that I want more than Jesse’s hea.

What didn’t work for me me: 1) I really wanted Kaitlin to find some measure of confident independence. That she went from being with her brother to being with Zach with no in-between didn’t sit well. 2) The ending just was weird & abrupt.

Other than those 2 things I really enjoyed the story.

This short Novella was so adorable I can’t even deal with all the cuteness, especially when the story went back in time and showed Zach and Kaitlin as children, this was a great short read and just to clarify I am writing this review to not forget I have read this book, my memory is as good as a goldfish’s so to summarize for my future self:

• Zach’s dream has always been to play hockey and now when he is he feels lost and feel like this isn’t everything he wanted to he comes back home and instead starts on the team in Vancouver
• Meets the girl he kissed 4 years ago and then he rejected because her older brother said that she’s off limits
• Her brother Jesse ask him to live with her because he doesn’t wanna leave her alone and he is going of to be an undercover cop somewhere else
• They fall in love and she gets miraculously pregnant
• Happy ending

Contiene:
Friends to lovers
La hermana menor del mejor amigo
Hockey 🏒 pero por encima
Escenas spicy 🌶️🌶️
