Healing Their Amish Hearts by Leigh Bale When tragedy tears an Amish family apart. Can her love bring them back together? Could she guide them from sorrow to joy? Becca Graber has made it her mission to get the silent boy in her new classroom to speak again. But when she meets the boy’s grieving vadder, widowed firefighter Jesse King, Becca realizes that two hearts need mending. As Becca and Jesse try to break through to Sam, will they also find a way to reach each other? This is Becca Graber and Jesse King's story. Starting a new job was never easy. But for Rebecca Graber, it seemed her first week as the interim teacher of the Amish school in Riverton, Colorado, might also be her last. Standing beside her desk in the one-room schoolhouse, she picked up her McGuffey reader. Thirty old-fashioned wooden desks sat lined up in orderly fashion with a black potbellied stove at the front of the room. A wide chalkboard covered the front wall, topped with English and German penmanship charts and several pull-down maps and illustrations for lessons. Poetry, artwork and Amish proverbs dotted the other walls. Becca had plenty of paper, crayons and flash cards for the children to use. And sitting on her desk was a large handbell she rang when she called the children in from recess. “First and second grades, please take out your reading books. All other grades will study quietly in their workbooks,” she said. Jesse King, Sam’s father, stood in front of the open door, holding his black felt hat in his hands. His gaze swept the room, his shrewd eyes showing that he understood exactly what had transpired. A corner of his mouth twitched and Becca thought he might laugh. But no. He looked too stern to find any humor in the moment. A chilly gust of wind accompanied his entrance and he pushed the portal closed with the point of his black work boot. Becca stared, thinking she imagined the man. When had he come inside? Probably during the chaos. Oh, no! Why did he have to show up now? What must he think of her? A moment of confusion fogged Becca’s mind. She couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. She watched as if in slow motion as Mr. King leaned down and picked up the rubber snake. I highly recommend reading. Her Their Amish Hearts is a truly amazing story of love, loss, and forgiveness written by Leigh Bale in her Colorado Amish Courtship series. This story is full of emotions and misunderstandings. I enjoyed the creative characters that the author used in this story. The storyline moves at a great pace and demonstrates just how important one teacher can be for one student.
Becca Graber has moved to Colorado to replace the Amish teacher who was injured severely in an accident. Becca has never been a teacher before but feels she can handle it. She thinks how hard can it be until the first day of class hits and everything goes wrong. Just as a big commotion disrupts the class the door opens to reveal the new father in town. Jesse King is also a newcomer to town and is not only dealing with the death of his wife and daughters but has a young son who has gone mute. Becca is determined to find a way to help Sam find his voice again but dealing with a grieving father at the same time proves to be her undoing. Jesse doesn't want Becca's help but she refuses to give up. The journey in this story has many obstacles and makes for a very intriguing read. When the true story is revealed as to the deaths of Jesse and Sam's family it will amaze you. Can Becca find healing for both Dam and Jesse? This story will draw you in and keep you reading to see what will happen next.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
Congratulations to Leigh Bale on writing such an inspirational story based on faith, love, family, and forgiveness.
Both characters in this story are having to heal from broken hearts, sorrow, and tragedy. As they try to find healing, peace, and new happiness they come together in a wonderful story of love and compassion. I love that Becca is able to help Sam overcome his own guilt and sorrow to speak again.
This author just sealed the deal with me by using one of my favorite words- "twitter-pated" lol. I love it!
The story was an interesting one and I enjoyed the characters, especially little Sam. I did find some words quite repetitious; they always "doffed" their outer garments, for example. The writing felt a bit stiff but still it was a good read and I would recommend it.
This was a good story, about how a young Amish woman hopes she can help a father and young son recover from the loss of their wife, mother, daughters and sisters.
This is a beautiful novel about two adults and a child that have suffered a tragedy and the adults Lear that through God's grace they can find love again. For the child, God's grace brings his voice.
