I can’t even begin to list all the reasons why getting close to him is a bad idea.
Or going to that fancy red carpet thing as his date.
Or letting him kiss me like he might never let me go.

Did I say bad idea?
Scratch that.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

A great Irish romance!

Declan is the #1 MMA fighter in the world until he gets into a career ending car accident. But he is determined to be on top again. River is escaping her life in the U.S, and takes a job in Ireland as a PA to Declan. She has no idea who he is and his notoriety and he thinks he has hired a man.

Declan is the ultimate grumpy, few words and grunts hero. He is very focused on fighting again and does not have time for distractions and love. River is a free spirit and lives life to the fullest and eventually shows Declan he can love again.

The book is quite long at 589 pages but it went by pretty fast. I loved Declan’s character and I felt for what he went through when he experienced his accident. River was ok. She was silly at times and that kind of irked me. But overall it was a solid read. There is some minor other woman drama and be forewarned that Declan is married but separated during the story. (Don’t feel sorry for the wife...she is definitely the cause of the breakup).

I will read this author again!

DNF @37%

Who am I if I’m not a fighter? What am I worth if I’m not number one?

Usually when I DNF a book I don't really talk about it. . .HOWEVER, I just needed to commiserate with you guys because looking at the good reviews makes me feel a bit crazy. I need conformation that I'm not crazy.

What sucks is that the first chapter prologue of Fighter's Kiss had me really intrigued. And then things just went intensely downhill after the first chapter. Let me list some of my issues and see if you guys feel what I'm saying!

BUT first, some background. . .

So the whole premise of the book is that River an American from NYC got a job in Ireland to be a PA for Declan, an Irish MMA fighter. Declan recently had a divesting accident and suffered a betrayal from his wife. Now he's been told he can never fight again but he refuses to listen and is trying to get back into fighting shape. Personally what I think he needs is to be seated on a therapists couch, but I digress. . . Nope. What he actually needs is River's sunny disposition to get him back on the right track! t h a t s - O B V I O U S L Y - t h e - s o l u t i o n

✨🙄 1. ✨🙄 - River's ALARMINGLY TERRIBLE at her job. . .

What really confused me, and was probably my biggest reason for DNF FIGHTER'S KISS , was because I almost felt like I was being tricked? River comes to work for Declan and they immediately get off on the wrong foot which you know what is its own sub-reason for my dislike of this book!

✨🙄 1.1 ✨🙄 - The shit application screening. . .

One of the main reasons Declan gets off on the wrong foot with Declan is because apparently NOBODY, throughout the entire application process, realized that River was a woman. . .

REALLY? REALLY? HOW? It's not like River was local, she was from the United States. This book takes place in Ireland. That means she's getting a work visa, she's going to have to fill out a shit ton of paper work, etc. etc. You're trying to tell me that NO ONE at ANY POINT, talked to this woman over the phone? MMMMmmmmmkay.

✨🙄 1. ✨🙄 - River's STILL ALARMINGLY TERRIBLE at her job. . .

Anyway she convinces them to give her a week trial and Declan agrees. Now, here's the part where I was just so bafflingly confused that I felt the need to write this whole rant review. First things first, apparently River has NO FREAKING CLUE WHO SHE'S WORKING FOR. This woman had me shaking my head. She's working for an elite athlete who is both recovering from a major accident, and is training for an upcoming fight. So, on her first day at a job she "desperately needs" what does she give him for breakfast? PANCAKES. Yup. Buttery, sugary, carbo loaded, pancakes. also side-note why is she cooking him breakfast if he has a chef?

GIRL. Like if you don't want to google the details of a boss you're going working for IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT COUNTRY that's fine! You do you sweets. But our girl River was given a binder that described, in great detail, what her job entailed. However, you guys it's not Rivers fault for messing this up. It's Declan's fault for being over the top and demanding. rude? yes. demanding? no. it's her literal job. Instead this is framed as River being "quirky" and "cute" for not following the parameters of her job. WAHHH??

She then proceeds - during her trial week - to play extremely loud music, refuses to turn it off when her employer asks her to, takes pictures of him without his permission, tries to talk about personal things when he's expressed his discomfort with that, get rip roaring drunk and then doesn't show up to her job the next day, and complains about working weekends. keep in mind ALL of these rules were in a binder/job description. Basically, she's shit at her job.

✨🙄 2. ✨🙄 - Cue the gaslighting. . .

So at this point in the book (16% yeah this book is 500 something pages for some reason) she decides to take his picture. Now I get that she's a photographer and tasked with up keeping his social media page. HOWEVER, she was given set pictures to use. River decides "nahhhh i'm good" and goes to take pictures of Declan training, without his permission. Obviously River takes the picture, Declan gets outrageously upset, demands she delete them, she refuses, and he BREAKS HER CAMERA. . .bro bro, tone it down. So, River quits. At this point my mindset was, bad on Declan for breaking her camera, he needs to apologize for that, pay for her plane ticket, and maybe buy her a new one. But on the whole I thinking, good riddance she clearly sucks at her job and Declan should replace her. BUT NOPE. At this point everyone in the house is saying shit like this to Declan -

“That girl is your stability ball, like it or not.”

I'M SORRY WHAT??!?!?!?!?! In what way??? Like I get that what Declan did was shitty but honestly this woman was being INCREDIBLY unprofessional. This is her job. Declan is not her boyfriend. HE IS HER BOSS. I just. . .ughhhhh. I feel like I'm going crazy and this makes absolutely no sense! How is she his stability ball? She's barely interacted with him at this point and when she has she's been terrible at her job. And yet he says this -

“You can stay on past the trial week,” he said without looking over at me. “As my permanent assistant. I, umm, I want you to stay.”

✨🙄 3. ✨🙄 - I was just not feeling River. . .

I see what River was supposed to be, I see WHO River was meant to be, annnnnd I just wasn't feeling it.

She was supposed to be this unique free-spirited "not like other girls girl" who would swoop in and bring light and laughter to the grumpy traumatized hero. I saw what the author was doing, I've liked this trope before, but here I just couldn't. I think the main reason it just didn't work for me was that it never really felt like she was his PA, but instead always meant to be his love interest. That always is key. I think in office romances or this kind of dynamic there needs to be a period of time in which the heroine (or hero but its always the heroine so do with that what you will) is actually competent at her job, and is getting to know the hero. That way when things do start to get more personal it doesn't feel like she's just this rando whose just met the hero and is doing things in a different way just because. Or if she is going to "switch things up" then at least make those switch ups MAKE SENSE. But making a MMA fighter PANCAKES with a shit ton of sugar just doesn't.

Which fine if you want to make her bafflingly terrible at her job do that. BUT DON'T pass it off as her being the rainbow sparkles to Declan's dour sour storm cloud. Also (and I may be wrong) what grown ass woman runs around in the rain all day and then goes to dinner without cleaning up first? Didn't she watch SENSE AND SENSIBILITY ? That's how you get pneumonia and shit.

✨🙄 3. ✨🙄 - Declan was meh. . .

I also just wasn't feeling Declan. I'm not sure what his character was supposed to be but I just wasn't feeling it. He didn't feel consistent. He was an asshole to his employees. He didn't know the name of his maid that had been working for him for SIX YEARS, he had intense anger issues, and ultimately he needed to talk to someone about his problems. Or I just wasn't feeling him. . .

IN THE END . . .

I'm not sure why this particular book made me so ranty but it just did. I don't think it was a bad book, far from it. But, I was just so baffled by how bad River was at her job and needed to confirm that I was not going crazy. Honestly I think I may have stuck it out longer, but FIGHTER'S KISS is close to 500 pages long. I'm good. However, if you're looking for an "enemies-to-lovers" (i guess) romance that has to do with MMA fighting then check it out and see for yourself. You guys might like it more than I did!

Declan needed help. The accident had left him reeling, and he needed a light in the world of darkness he found himself in.

River was always running. But maybe she could stop for a minute, and help out the damaged MMA fighter before her. Can two damaged souls help each other?

I really liked this story. River is perfect for Declan - she is that balm to his wounded spirit, and Declan is the one to give her the love she was so desperately searching for. As the story progresses, I like how he slowly opens up, and she not only stands up to his alpha personality, but she gives him peace at the same time. They really are perfect for each other! I can't wait for more of the Irish Kiss series if they're all going to be as good as this one is.

3.5 stars. Very engaging and fast paced. The characters were too emotional and rash for my preference, and the hero had an about face that was semi-abrupt. Would be three stars except that it kept me hooked.

I haven’t read much from Sienna Blake. But from the few books I read of hers, I could confidently say that she can write one helluva story.

Fighter’s Kiss was the third installment from the Irish Kiss series and a complete standalone. In comparison with the first two books, Darmuid and Danny were scarce on the story. They have a few appearances but not as much as the first two books. I liked how the story flowed and how things progressed. Although it was kind of an instant attraction, the story slowly builds up and not the typical insta-love and they lived happily ever after. It sometimes get tiring to read insta-love where they had this attraction at first meeting and they fell madly in love in just a span of a week. Fighter’s Kiss, although only progress in a span of few weeks, there were scenes that actually made them connected with one another apart from just the sexual tension. I also like that it crossed a little with The Irish Lottery. I think the only that I was missing was a little more angst. There was a little hitch on the journey, but it was just that a hitch. I was maybe looking for a little more fight.

The characters are easy to connect to. You would kind of understand why they act the way they do. Their decisions are mostly understandable given their past and the feelings their harboring. I just feel that River’s reason for running away isn’t established that much. Even though it was further explained what happened, it kind of doesn’t feel as big of a deal as they make it out to be. It felt a little lacking. Declan on the other hand, despite the tough exterior shows how soft he can be on the inside.

I’d give this an overall 4.5 stars. I just really think a little more angst in it made it perfect.

"Fear wasn’t weakness. Admitting you needed help wasn’t weakness. Accepting help wasn’t weakness. Far from it. I wanted to tell him there was nothing stronger."

A fighter isolated in his own pain like an injured animal in his den. A betrayed man who slowly moves away from his humanity. A beast trapped in its own mind and its traumas.

It's always hard to write a review of a Sienna's Blake book. Her books bring intense, engaging, and well-conducted journeys. It is impossible to read a story of hers and not get your heart touched at the end of the reading. At least in Irish Kiss series.

Declan is a deliciously intense and anguished character. Complex, passionate and dense. His traumatic past has left in his psyche a pain more difficult to overcome than the pain caused by the accident that can end his fighter career.

River, even with her fears and insecurities, is a ray of sunshine in Declan's life and narrative. She has a captivating personality, despite a past marked by helplessness, abandonment and lack of love.

The way the relationship develop between the characters is gradual and engaging. It has humor, tenderness, steamy and a lot of chemistry. It is a wonderful and balanced mix of the most intense and different feelings.

A book to love from start to finish. With multiple twists, taunts and intrigues that can, separate the couple and help keep the reader's curiosity. Suitable for readers who love a well-written novel, with that hint of anguish and suspense, but also with the lightness and tenderness needed to make the story totally enthralling.

Of all the books in the Irish Kiss series, Fighter's Kiss is my all time favorite.

I don't know what it is about an Alpha male acting like a jerk that pulls me in, but every time!

What made Fighter's Kiss great for me is that the lead female character was super feisty and gave back as much as she was given.

The chemistry between River and Declan was explosive. Not sure there is any other way to describe it. But watching the walls break down between the two of them was amazing.

Ending up far from home could not have been easy for River and she wasn't met with a welcome wagon to be honest. She virtually had to prove herself to everyone associated with Declan. She had amazing grit and showed her determination and dedication by standing her ground and proving herself.

My utmost favorite line out of the whole book?

"Baby, please don't go where I can't follow." Total tear meltdown. Once you read it, you will get the context and totally get it.

Sadly, I think this is the end of the Kiss series. *insert disgusted look here* I mean I hope it isn't...ahem.

If you have never read anything by Sienna Blake before, I highly recommend her. Curl up for a long weekend and cruise through her work. You will not be disappointed.

Fighter's Kiss get 5 starts from me!

Declan “The Homewrecker” Gallagher. World #1 MMA Champion. He was at top of his game until an accident happen that left him unable to fight. Which left him spiraling into the darkness alone and angry at everyone. River Moore got offered a position from a Irish Agency as PA to him and she accepted it left New York and flew across the country. As soon as he seen her he hated her try to get rid of her but she was a spitfire would not except no for an answer. Declan was antisocial angry, rude and had a permit scowl on his face and River was a hippie always happy and smiling. She was exactly what he needed and slowly she got threw to him and she saw a different side of him he turned out to be caring, sweet and loving guy. Their story made my heart happy at times and made it hurt at times also. I just really loved them together. Not gonna lie I cried couple times reading this book some of the stuff he said to her was so damn sweet. I highly recommend this book and also if u haven't read the other books in this series u should they are also Amazing.❤❤

I received this as a Arc but tjis is my honest opinion

Fighter’s Kiss is the 3rd book in the Irish Kiss Series. I read the first book Irish Kiss, but missed the second one, Professor's Kiss.

River was hired to be Declan Gallagher’s PA. No one realized that River was a girl.

Declan was told he would never fight again. He had an accident that “broke his body”. So, what does he have to be happy about. He is out to prove the ones that told him that he would never fight again, a death sentence as far as he was concerned.

Declan Gallagher needed River he just didn’t know how much he needed her. He calls River “the girl”. River is full of life and slowly starts turning Declan back into a happy human being.

OMG I was chuckling through the chicken breast scene!!!! Hahaha! I may never look at chicken the same again.

I loved this book so much that you should see all the highlighted passages.

Fighter’s Kiss was such an enjoyable story for me! I now need to go and read Professor’s Kiss. Loved it!!!

Get ready for an emotinal ride with Declan & River.
Declan is a MMA fighter making his way back following terrible crash that left him physically and emtonally scarred. He had it all.. the MMA belt and supermodel wife that he thought loved him and adoring fans. Soon the crash took away his health and his wife soon showed her cheating ways. Now he is making his way through the gammet of PA's . Until River shows up. He does not want a woman in his home and certainly not her. She is full of life, ideas and has a sunny personality ...he does not this right now.
River has no idea who Declan is but once she meets this beast of a man she knows that there is certainly more to this man than what the surface shows.
River will not be fired and each day she will prove herself more valuable in his professional life and then his personal life . You sometimes have no idea what you need or want until it is right before your eyes . I loved their story!

In completely in love with this author’s writing! I’ve old read a few but they had my attention so lost in the story!!

I had my fair share of issues with the both of these main characters! 🤦🏽‍♀️ Man, they were such a mess!! Declan solely focused on one thing, revenge. River focused on defying Declan every chance she got! More and more I saw between these two you couldn’t help but want to slap each one! Their want for each other clear but completely blind by hate. This story had me laughing out loud and I loved it!!

You get a little bit of everything here... comedy, romance, suspense, tragedy, weird moments but also love. I loved how crazy and weird River was, she was free and didn’t have anything holding her back. Declan could use a change but does he give in to the temptress? 😍

Declan was living the dream as he was a top MMA fighter with a beautiful wife until both his personal and professional life came to a crashing halt. He is now irate and bitter about the hand that life has dealt him and takes it out on those around him.

River has a painful past of her own and wants a better future. If that means working as a personal assistant for the grumpy fighter then it is a challenge she is ready to face.

He doesn’t want River or anyone else near him but before too long they both realize that her accepting this job may be the best thing to happen to either one of them.

What a roller coaster ride.
MMA fighter Declan is on top of his game, living his best life until a moment in time changes all of that. Drowning in his self made darkness, PA River from America is hired to help him out.
What happens between them is a fun, steamy poignant story of second chances in life between 2 complete opposites.
River has her own dark past and she can’t let go of.
Together they fight their best fight outside the ring as they find their way to a new life.
Well paced, sexy and poignant read.

Fighter's Kiss shattered my heart into a million tiny pieces. The angst and anticipation in every chapter kept me on edge until the very end. River was a breath of fresh air to this overcast and gloom filled fighter. Their story was exciting and scary. But through it all my heart mended . Sienna Blake can weave a tale with a beautiful precision that makes me fall in love with the story even more.

Declan what can I say! I loved this alpha jerk so much!! He had the picture perfect life, professional MMA fighter, married. On top of it all. Then in one moment it came crashing down. Enter River, whom I also adored, she is there to help him. He isn’t interested in any help from anyone. I loved that both these characters had a broken past and that they needed each other to heal. If you have read any of this authors work you know how she can build a romance. Really enjoyed this story!!!

I am going to be honest. I was seriously looking forward to this book even though I haven’t read the first two in the series. It can be read as a stand alone.

Declan, the broody MMA fighter and River, the free spirit collide in this book about overcoming, acceptance and second chances. It is emotional but not overwhelming so. Great book, good characters and worth everything you will feel. It brings home the point that your past does not direct your future if you don’t let it.

Loved reading the third book in the Irish Kiss series. When River moves takes a position in Ireland as Declan's assistant, Declan wants her gone because she is a woman, but River talks him into giving her a chance. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, captivating characters and riveting story, and a must read romance.

Declan & River are 2 broken souls in need of some healing. Neither wants to admit to that though so this book starts with drama that slowly falls away as they begin to heal & walls are dropped. Their chemistry is true & off the charts, their love is one to fight for in & out of the cage!

“I’d never been more thankful for the stars. Because as she got to stare at them, I got to stare at her.”

This, honestly, might be my favorite of Sienna Blake’s works. A modern re-telling of the classic Beauty and the Beast, we are hit with everything from a beautiful unused mansion with forests and gardens, to a staff of quirky misfits that our beast knows nothing about. Our sweet, courageous Beauty brings out a side of the beast that’s been lost forever. She saves him from himself and it is the most incredibly captivating thing to witness.

Move over Danny, I’ve got my eye on a new Irish hunk. Declan, our beast, is an Irish cage fighter. Like MMA. Big leagues. He’s legit and super serious about what he does. He has a really rough back story that our author lets us in on, little by little, throughout the book, and it’s really important to pay attention to. It helps walk you through why he is the way that he is. He was also burned big time by his wife. He found her and his number one rival going at it in his home…he got blind drunk…and drove his car into an accident and almost died. Since the accident put him out, he’s not in fighting shape, but he wants to keep his title as champion and hold onto the MMA belt thing (whatever it’s called?). It all makes much more sense when you read it lol I’m doing a bang up job trying to explain sports over here LOL.

Okay, so basically this novel reminded me a little bit of Me Before You but without the assisted suicide and quadriplegic stuff. Our spunky beauty, River, is quirky and fun. She loves bright colors and being outside and smiling too much. She’s like a ray of sunshine, shining into the dark soul of Declan. He’s immediately drawn to her, even though he hates himself for it. He wanted to forget women entirely, after his wife’s betrayal, but she kept wiggling her way into his thoughts. Before you know it, he’s in love with her and he hasn’t even realized it. He can’t eat or sleep or function because all he can do is think about her. She’s an enigma. She’s a force to be reckoned with. She’s perfect for him in every way.

Geez this book was just SO phenomenal, I don’t even know how to finish this review. I’m so happy I read it. Blake never disappoints but I really feel like this has to be her best work yet! The chemistry and passion, the dialogue and tension, everything was perfectly in sync…working together to create this masterpiece. Great GREAT work, Blake. 5 stars!!!

“but it’s you. River, you’re my reason.”

As much as I've been enjoying reading Sienna Blake's quick and dirty series, I was really looking forward to the Fighter's Kiss. I'm happy to report that it was more than worth the wait. Like the other books in this series, the hero and heroine have all kinds of issues to work through on their way to true love.
Declan has been an MMA fighter (mixed martial arts, which apparently people watch worldwide, but I'm obviously mixing in the wrong circles as I know next to nothing about it.) His career has been ruined after his wife left him for a rival and he went out and crashed his car. River is running from her own past. She is ashamed of the upbringing that she has had and is desperately trying to work her way to a better life.
River is a strong character and is exactly what the damaged Declan needs, someone who stands up to him and calms him, rather than someone who just bends to what he thinks he wants. He offers her what she needs and they work really well together.
Their relationship works well and the way that they faced what they really wanted and what was important to them made for a gripping read. Declan starts out as quite a closed-off character and it's hard as a reader to get a grip on who he is. As the story progresses and he gets to know River more, she begins to help him to open up and we learn more about him and what motivates him. Even the way that he thinks about River changes, in the early chapters he just refers to her as 'the girl' but as she becomes more important to him he sees her more as a woman in her own right.
This is a great read, I really enjoyed it.

Calming the beast
What does one hot jerk of an alpha male need? A woman who can stand up to him with fire. Poor River had a past full of hurt and finds herself far from home having to prove her worth. Declan was at the top of his game when injury and a failed personal life brought reality home to him. These two butt heads from the beginning and the author made their journey long and hard, but in the end they connect on a scale that made my heart sing with joy. Which is a good thing as I found myself crying many times while reading this book. I can't wait to read the next book by this author.

mmmmm

I found this book very difficult to rate.

The book had less action and more emotional depth than I expected. But even so, I did not feel or believe the connection between our main characters. This may be because the reader is treated to a lot of inner dialogue but much less interaction between the characters. And add to that, when there is interaction, it tends to be misunderstandings based on insecurities that could have been dealt with by communicating. And this happens more than once..

Declan is an MMA champion who had it all... until a betrayal and a serious crash brought everything to a halt.

River is Declan's new personal assistant from America. She's had her own share of obstacles and hopes this new job in Ireland is just what she needs.

Very enjoyable read. I was rooting for the two from the start, and am always wanting that happily ever after.

Who am I if I’m not a fighter?
A story of an injured MMA champion and his new assistant. Declan was brutal, had an injured and angry body and heart, was prone to violence…but not with River. She saw beyond his rough edges and she could calm him. This all came alive off the pages. A good engrossing read, maybe not my favorite of the series, but still good.
