Anh Do is a comedian, artist and also one of the highest selling Australian authors of all time, with total book sales approaching 3 million.

Anh’s first book, The Happiest Refugee, is his enormously popular memoir recounting his perilous childhood journey in a tiny boat from war-torn Vietnam to Australia. The book became an instant hit and has won numerous awards including Australian Book of the Year.

Anh has since turned his attention to children’s book writing.

Weird Do is an illustrated series starring Weir (1st name), Do (2nd name), a kid with a very unfortunate name. Aimed at the 8+ market, these books have gone off the charts as national best-sellers, resulting in 14 books total and more on the way. The first Weir Do won the Australian Book Industry Award for Older Children (2014).

Other children's book series include Hotdog, the adventures of a sausage dog and also Ninja Kid, the escapades of a 10 year old Nerd who discovers he’s the world’s last ninja.

In 2019, Anh released Wolf Girl, a series about a little girl who gets lost in forest and befriends a group of dogs and an enormous Wolf who become her family. Then came Rise of the Mythix, which marks the first of a number of sagas described by Anh as ‘A superhero movie in a book’.

All of Anh Do’s books are mega bestsellers and all rate between 4-5 star averages on websites such as Goodreads and Amazon.

It’s clear that Anh is an exciting voice in literature, able to delight across age ranges and different genres with great success, and he isn’t planning to slow down any time soon.

Nelson and Kenny are back and this time there are two of them! Their friends have started to get suspicious about their mysterious absences each time Ninja Kid and H-Dude battle evil Dr Kane so inventor extraordinaire Grandma has created Nelson and Kenny clones.

Now, whenever our heroes spring into action they will be able to activate their clones to stand in for them. That is, if the clones behave themselves. Dr Kane hasn’t been seen for a while but Nelson and Kenny take their clones with them to Camp Koala, just in case.

Strap on your jetpack and get ready for some cool dance moves, groan-worthy math puns

and an obstacle course worthy of a Ninja Warrior. Grandma is as fun as usual and her inventions still either work brilliantly or fail in a humorous way. Along with the usual assortment of heroes, school kids and baddie we are introduced to a new character, Ultimate Ninja.

Dr Kane still hasn’t figured out Ninja Kid and H-Dude’s not so secret identities, so I don’t think he’ll ever be smart enough to win. He’s determined though and I admire his tenacity.

While I usually marvel at the sheer wackiness of Grandma’s inventions

I was disappointed by her clones. I would have thought would have been a bit of a giveaway but apparently the people of Duck Creek aren’t all that observant. I’m also not entirely sure how Nelson and Kenny are supposed to be able to .

This book has a new illustrator, Anton Emdin. I loved Jeremy Ley’s illustrations in the first four books and had looked forward to them continuing to bring Anh Do’s characters to life. Anton Emdin has done a good job of keeping the style consistent with the rest of the series though, a feat that I expect is quite difficult to accomplish. Had I not seen the new name on the title page I doubt I would have known the difference.

I’ve started to become suspicious of Dr Kane’s involvement each time a new character is introduced in this series and so far haven’t been wrong. I hope to be surprised next time and look forward to finding out more about Nelson’s father.

I’d recommend reading this series in order as spoilers for prior Dr Kane mischief are included in this book.

This book has been the best book I've ever read in my entire life. If someone asked me what was bad about this book I wouldn't be able to reply to that. If your wondering if reading ninja kid is worth it the answer is yes. If you enjoy the ninja kid books you would be very happy when you read the fifth one. If you would want me to give you the percentage of this book I would give it 100% I don't care what anyone says about this book I will know it's a great book. This book is so good my guess would be that the next time I'll read a book better then this will be in about 10 years.

I appreciate that Do begins each book with a recap of the earlier ones in the series. This serves as a reminder for series readers and a jump in point for those who start with this volume.
Grandma creates clones so the boys seem to be present with their friends while Ninja Kid and H Boy are on the scene. They again defeat their enemy and save the kids and town. Clever dialogue and humorous scenes keep readers involved.

Grandma builds Nelson & Kenny robot clones so people don't wonder why they go missing every time Ninja Kid and H Dude appear. But mayhem is never far away as the two boys just 'test out' the clones to see if they will really work.

Great series (new illustrator for this book)

Is this more of the same. Yes. But my 6 year old is still enjoying the series. Each books self contained story is another exciting adventure. I would like the overarching plot to to be more prominent though. It’s being strung up out a little to thin.

Bored me again. There are some girls that these two kids like but are afraid to say anything. I could relate. The bad characters are boring. The kids liked it, they want more and more.

An easy, fun read.

I might have rated this higher had I read this book in its proper sequence in the series. I already knew who Ultimate Ninja was, it might have had more of an impact on me if I didn’t and was finding out for the first time.
