Dr. Dhoot is the author of the Tinker Toddlers series of books providing simple explanations of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) topics. She aims to expose the littlest learners to emerging STEM concepts early on to accelerate the absorption of complex topics later.
Dr. Dhoot lives in sunny California with her husband and newborn daughter.
ABCs of The Solar System and Beyond is a picture book by Dr. Dhoot. It aims to give kids a little bit of knowledge about a variety of things one can find in space. While there are really common things that they will have heard of, there are also some things that will likely be new to them; things like dark matter and kelvins.
The way it’s written, the author presents a bunch of really interesting words for kids to learn. There’s a variety of little facts to go along with pages, and even some questions for kids to think about. There are some really good little science things that kids can learn from this book. One of my favourite pages is the “Qq is for Quasar” page; I think it’s pretty cool.
There are all sorts of cute and interesting little illustrations to go along with each page. On the page “Ee is for Earth”, there’s a fabulous illustration of our wonderful planet, with all sorts of great textures, and there are even a few creatures alongside it. I also love the illustration of Jupiter.
Overall, it’s a good little book and I think many kids will find something cool to think about. While the information in the book is relatively limited, I think it will inspire many kids to find out more about space, and to learn more.
ABCs of the Solar System and Beyond is a fantastic book in the Tinker Toddlers series. This is a perfect book to teach toddlers and young children about space whilst learning the alphabet at the same time.
On each page there is a space themed picture that represents something that begins with the pages letter. Some of the words are simple words and some are more complicated, ones I'd not even heard of before. This is great to help the children learn about some more difficult concepts in a child friendly way. For older children there is a few lines explaining the word on each page which is great to extend learning.
The illustrations are colourful and fun for the children to look at, the cartoon style gives them a child friendly feel. This is nice but I think it would have been nice for some real photos to be included also to give it a more realistic feel. The letters are clear on each page with the letters in capital and lower form in a red circle and the same for the word on each page.
This is a very informative book and great for the children to learn about the solar system, we really enjoyed learning from this book.
This is Avery interesting g book for the little ones and the adults also. It is in the Tinker Toddler Series. It is not just an ABC book it's also an information book about the word that goes with the alphabet letter. The illustrations are beautiful and precise. I highly recommend this great book to spark the little ones thinking about exploring space. I picked one of the letters to share. M is for Moon. You can find out all about the moon and other things with this beautifully illustrated with vast knowledge book. There is a place to draw.your own rocket.
I read this book with my three year old daughter and she absolutely LOVED it!
She is really in to space at the moment and I did guess this book would be a hit with her but I did not expect it to be enjoyed as much as it has been!
I love the way that the book was laid out, it was nice and bright and the illustrations were great too.
It is 5 stars from me for this one, we have read it several times now and she asks for it to be read again every day - a great way to learn ABCs for a little space fan!!
My son and I have read a few books in this series and it's very informative. I know it's says Tinker Toddlers but the books would work for young, independent readers. This book is written in true ABC fashion but it includes a small description of the item ( ex. Titan and Quasar ). If you are looking for a overview the Solar system and it's components, this series would be a good place to start.
We really liked the mix of simple and more complicated items in the alphabet. I think it helps kids curiosity by keeping it easy to understand and not over complicating it. I think there's more about space in this book than other books for the same age group, which is a big advantage is your kid is fascinated by space!
What a fun ABC book! I can see how this could be easily adapted to read with kids from a variety of ages. I learned something new and enjoyed reading it.
