Written by the disabled community for the disabled community — a collection of short fiction, memoirs, and poetry from writers around the world. Also features original artwork from artists who identity as disabled.
A first of its kind, Disabled Voices Anthology captures life as a disabled person: from the bad and ugly, to the good and victorious, and anything in between. Some pieces deconstruct and/or challenge ableism, or embody a spirit of disability and community and activism rather than inspiration for abled people.
This is an amazing anthology of diverse disabled voices! It has a mix of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and artwork. It has a variety of disabilities represented, both physical and neurodiversities. It has authors of color, queer, nonbinary and trans writers/artists. It is packed with awesome! I related to some, as a fellow disabled queer nonbinary person, and learned from others about specific disabilities I don't have. I loved nearly everything in here! It is BY disabled voices FOR disabled people!!💜💜
Disclaimer: I have two poems in this anthology. It's one I'm especially proud to be a part of, as it helped me validate feelings of self-worth and develop a militant political consciousness as a disabled person. I especially enjoyed Michaela Oteri's Cripple Punk Portraits, but there was a lot of fine work in this book. Kudos to the editor.
Loved some pieces, hated others. Ultimately I think this anthology was really moving as a great anthology should be! Bonus points for creating space for disabled voices!!
