Squidge Dibley is the new kid at Craglands South Primary ... and the school might not survive him. The start of a hilarious new series about a very strange class, perfect for fans of Weirdo, Funny Kid and Tom Gates.
Things are going downhill fast for class 6PU at Craglands South Primary School. They've changed teachers more times than most kids change their socks, and their latest one is so strict they aren't even allowed to sneeze. But just when it seems like the school term has been turned into a prison term, a new kid arrives.
A kid unlike any other kid at Craglands South. A kid named Squidge Dibley. He's small, quiet and strangely ... squidgy. And he's about to change everything.
*** WARNING *** Please refrain from eating while reading this book. It is utterly gross ... the book that is, not whatever you are eating.
Mick Elliot has created a larger than life cast of characters in Craiglands South year 6 class. The novel goes at a cracking pace and the illustrations are glorious. While not a graphic novel the cartoon style illustrations certainly create much visual movement.
Squidge is shown on the opening pages yet not formally introduced until much later. His impending presence adds suspense and curiosity to the story. Mick Elliot has a wicked sense of humour with puns, grossness and kids' shenanigans peppering the pages. He explores themes of inclusion, problem solving and, accepting and understanding differences in others.
Would recommend for those who like Anh Do, Andy Griffiths and Aaron Blabey.
Another kids book with terrible teachers working in terrible schools and outrageous caricatured characters. Young children may get a laugh, but I wouldn’t say it shows schools and teachers positively.
A lot of fun to read. Crazy characters with zany habits. The illustrations will give you lots of laughs. Only draw back for me was the description of the librarian, Ms Sloane. Why would a librarian have a permanently angry face, be obsessed with silence and hate books with pictures. That I don't get.
