Some spirits never rest in peace… Paul Mahan escaped the terrifying evil that dwelled in the Rookwood Apartments. But others have not been so lucky. Young Ella Cotter, an innocent child, finds herself tormented by a ghost Paul unwittingly freed when he escaped the building's haunted grounds.
As Paul attempts to use hypnosis to separate the child from the tortured entity that clings to her soul, blood runs in the streets. A series of mysterious killings rocks the nearby city of Tynecastle. And Paul is convinced the violent incidents are linked to Dr. Palmer, a sadistic wraith, who once turned Rookwood into an asylum of horrors.
Working with the local police, and a rare book dealer with an interest in the occult, Paul and his allies soon find themselves face to face with an enemy unlike anything they have ever imagined. This terrifying evil force grows more powerful with each victim it kills.
And the only way to stop it may cost Paul his mortal soul…
This book was so repetitive and long for no reason. Only reason I finished is because I had invested so much time already. Let’s not even talk about the ending, it seemed like it went on for so long they just had to try and wrap it up quickly at the end. Whomp whomp
Paul is still stuck trying to help the spirit of Liz move on, but she is making it harder. Now, she is inhabiting the body of a young girl. Dr. Palmer is still trying to take more souls, growing ever stronger. The fight to stop him just might cost both Paul and Mark their lives.
Paul Mahan has defeated the evil Doctor Palmer, or so he thought. It seems the good doctor has more nefarious deeds in mind and, being already dead, cannot be stopped by normal means. Ella, a young girl caught up in this drama, becomes tied to the spirit of another young girl who had been tortured by Dr. Palmer when he ran the Rookwood Asylum. Paul is also captured by an entity and imprisoned with Ella in a hidden part of the defunct asylum. Meanwhile, mysterious deaths are occurring in the nearby town of Tynecastle. It is becoming clear that these deaths are directly the result of entities from Rookwood Asylum, but beating them is easier said than done. Paul Mahan is the hero here, but he is certainly not the only brave soul in this book. Ella can certainly claim a fair share of the bravery. Just when you think the saga is at an end, there is enough shadow of doubt to keep the story alive, so a Book 4 is a real possibility. I hope so. I like this series.
Dark Deity is the third and final book in the Asylum Series written by David Longhorn. The author came up great way to finish up the series and how to tie the whys of it all. I for one thought it was very interesting on why things happened. This one was stronger than the second book but still not as strong as the first in my opinion.
It seems that everything is stacked against Paul and the ones who help him. It seems he has additional enemies that are out to help this dark force to get what they want as well. This is a nail biter and you will have to read for yourself who will win in the end. I did enjoy reading this series. It was definitely worth my time and I thought it was interesting and the author had some good ideas in there that he combined with today's age.
DARK DEITY is Book 3 of THE ASYLUM Series, about the former Rookwood Asylum in England, recently converted into flats, and its resident terrors. I thought it started a bit more slowly than the first two in the series, but once underway, there was sufficient flash and bang and plenty of terror evoked. The author strums multiple chords of the Supernatural and I found the story definitely scary.
I enjoyed this book. I think maybe I came in at the middle of a series, and was a little lost -- getting the characters confused. The plot picked up steam and I found myself rooting for the good guys. There's a nice plot twist at the end.
The trilogy was really good, though I sometimes lost my momentum in the third book. I guess it bothered me that a few of the good guys were killed off.
