Small town, small-minded people, small expectations, and big A-holes. Lilith Deville is the new enigma at Lakeside Preparatory Academy, a prestigious high school by a river and not a lake, which makes sense, not. Already she hates it despite its beautiful landscape.
Between riding her dirt bike through the sacred lands of the natives, plotting against those she meets, and holding greasy truckers at gunpoint, Lilith makes no time for love or friendship. Forever the walking mystery (read misery) of her new home and school.
That is until Nokosi Locklear catches her eye with his arrogance and a hard, toned body that she’s certain she doesn’t want to climb.
Shoved up against a locker by him in her first week, she sets him in her wicked sights.
Life is only fun when you have somebody else’s pain to focus on. So long as you stay detached. Something Lilith will find is impossible to do when it comes to Nokosi. A guy with looks but no charm. Strength but no power. Love but no morals.
With a serial killer roaming the States, taking victims one by one, a past in Nokosi’s eyes that he tries to hide, and a mother that would rather work than keep her daughters happy, Lilith finds plenty of time to spare and plenty of things to keep herself occupied.
Note: This is your only trigger warning. Read at your own risk.
A. E. Murphy is the Queen of sarcasm and satire, she likes long walks in the park, as much as ice cubes like to chill in a roasting oven. She’s effortlessly independent and so good at adulting it’s unfair on the rest of the world. She only napped twice today and has only avoided the dishes for three days before making the child slaves do them this morning. Winning! Her favourite hobby is writing, her worst hobby is reading through that writing. Also she has two cats that carry toys to the top of the stairs and drop them down so they can chase them. They do this repeatedly in the middle of the night. Who cares if she has work the next morning? Not the cats, that’s for sure. And if it’s not the cats doing the waking, it’s the toddler crawling into bed with her and pulling individual hairs from her scalp with pudgy little fingers for comfort. This is likely why she’s in a constant state of grump unless there’s chocolate and coffee. P.S. Please leave feedback, if not on the book then on this ridiculous bio she wrote herself. It’s the least you can do seeing as she’ll forever talk in the third person now. Alex loves her readers. Alex says thank you. Alex smiles.
PLEASE READ ONLY IF YOU'RE HAPPY FOR THE ENDING TO BE SPOILED!!!
I skipped to the end, and here is why I will never read the whole book. People who are in this for the romance, you should probably read the spoiler.
The book gets props for having a Native American hero but that's literally it. Let me add now, haters, kindly don't bother to read my review and comment because I don't give a crap.
Lilith, her twin sister Willow and their mother never stay in one place for too long. They arrive to a new town and Lilith starts a new school, but instead of trying to fit in, she immediately looks for the most arrogant guy there, and meets Nikosi – the hot (Indian) bad boy! Yummy 😍🔥😋
Why was Lilith looking for Nok…? One thing is for sure, she has NO good intentions. ☠ That's it. That's all I'll tell you about the plot, because trust me, you need to go in blind! 😱😱😱
This book was a roller coaster with twists from hell! It took me a long time to digest it and even form an opinion – I was so surprised!!! 🔥 When I started reading, I had no idea what was going to happen or how it would end, and so, what I thought would be a ‘bully’ romance with a bit of suspense – turned out to be a psychological thriller with crazy twists that (at first) I wasn’t sure if they were super genius or super stupid. Now, I can finally answer that: BOTH. 😂 It was genius – because I did not expect what happened. And it was dumb – because unfortunately, not everything was logical.
Although there were things I guessed, it did not stop me from enjoying… What did, were things that did not add up: – Her hair (no, I did not understand what happened there…) – Her father (he disappeared, appears, disappears again… and then returned in the role of… a messenger?) – And most importantly, the scene towards the end, in the hospital (how the hell did Lilith get home so fast, if she just collapsed and hospitalized??) 😱 As for the end: I certainly hoped it would end differently, but I still think it's the perfect ending to this twisted story. 💕
Although I was a little bummed (kill me, but I can't let it go!!! You were just in the hospital, lady! How did you suddenly open your door?!?! 😭😂) BUT despite that, I really liked ALL THAT FEELS it gave me while reading – and thanks to that, it definitely deserves a high rate! 💪
So if you like dark and twisted stories that plays with your head, psychological "Enemies for Lovers" romance and you are NOT afraid to step out of the comfort zone… this should be your next book! 💀
• I listened to the AUDIO version. 🎧 (It was awesome!)
Naked or Dead is the first book I've read from A. E. Murphy, and from the moment I finished it, I knew it wouldn't be the last. Different, unexpected, and dark, this story was exactly what I needed! It starts out like a typical bully romance, but quickly turns into something much more interesting!
There's not much else I can say about the book without spoiling the fuck out of it for you, so this is going to be a pretty short review. The main point I want to get across is that you should read it if you want something suspenseful, fucked up, and surprisingly emotional. It's the kind of read that keeps you on your toes and will have you guessing the whole way through.
Full disclosure, I figured out a lot of what was going to happen at the end, but even so, it didn't take away from my enjoyment. It's an intriguing, twisted, mindfucking journey, and I enjoyed the hell out of the ride! Dark romantic suspense and enemies to lovers fans, this one's for you!
'NAKED OR DEAD' Is a full length stand-alone romance by author A.E. Murphy.
What the heck did I just read!?! This is one book where I'm stumped with what to put in my review, there are so many twists and turns which are revealing, either way if you've not read this book definitely #oneclick it, it's beyond unique and will have you questioning everything you thought you knew. So without further a do I'm going to have to leave this review short and brief so as not to spoil it for others after me. Go in bind and love the shit out of this book like I did!!
Seventeen year old Lilith Deville is the new kid on the block at Lakeside Predatory Academy and has her sight set on befriending the most arrogant male of the school, and that just so happens to be Nokosi Locklear, the only Native American attendee. He's also the king of the school and makes it known that he'd never date a white girl.
Lilith has moved from school to school every few weeks or so, never able to set down roots. Nokosi lives on a reservation. These two are as opposite as you can get. But the fire between them is scorching.
This was such a roller coaster of a ride. My emotions were thrown into overdrive, the angst, the feels, the suspense, this book took me down twists and turns I wasn’t prepared for!
My heart wanted to cry for the injustice of that ending. I never saw it coming 😢 I fell so hard for their love story, wrapped up in all the feels, loving everything that came along with it, until the rug was literally pulled out from under me! Left siting here flabbergasted, yelling at the author, crying for these characters who I loved wholeheartedly. Well played A.E. Murphy!!
So to sum it up ➡️This was a twisty hit to the heart slow burn with all the feels kind of read. Highly recommend
This book has been on my to-read list for awhile now. But after seeing 5* after 5* review pop up I decided to make it my next read.
I’ll admit I bristled a bit at first over Lilith’s behaviour. I couldn’t see that anything would excuse her.
But soon I was hooked and found it totally compulsive reading. It was also confusing because it’s obvious something else is going on. I was so wrapped up in the characters and the play between that it wasn’t until half way in that it clicked. Then it all made sense. Then I was left hoping against hope I was wrong. I’m one of those readers who wants a HEA and now I was worried I wasn’t going to get one.
The second half was a bumpy ride. Addictive stuff. Even more so since I’d worked out what was going on. I’ll admit I was anxious about continuing. How could it turn out well.
Then I realised how it would end. I felt pretty stupid it had taken me so long. There was only one way it could finish that would give me any kind of acceptable ending and I felt better. While it’s not the HEA I expected going in it was better than I’d thought at one point. This meant I could now settle down and enjoy the rest. And enjoy I did.
This is a fabulous book. Totally addictive and interesting. And yes I totally forgave Lilith for her crazy bitchy behaviour at the beginning.
What an awful ending. So disappointed. I have read other books that did not end in an HEA, but they made sense. The ending to this one made no sense. What did I just read?? I wasted precious reading time on this?!?!?!
The first 25% of this book was 5 stars. I loved the hero being bit of bully and the heroine not taking any of it. Plus I loved the suspense of not knowing what Lilith's agenda was and why she always went to a new school and looked for the most arrogant guy. She was out to get the a**hole!
At 40%, my rating starting to fall, but only to 4 stars. Things (situations and not in a good suspense way) started to feel out of place. I loved how we were getting the news reports about the murders and I figured somehow the twins were involved. However, it all felt forced.
At 60%, I almost DNFed. Things were getting crazy, but not in a good way. I don't like when the drama feels forced. Willow started going behind Lilith back and talking to Nok. I knew something tragic must have happened to the twins for them to have that attitude, but at that point the drama felt forced.
Then at 90%, it became a one star (if not zero stars). The last 5% of the story and then the epilogue was just so disappointing. The worst ending and epilogue I think I have ever read!
The author notes the end that this was Lilith and Nok's story. Well, it did not feel like their story. In the end, it felt like nothing. I did not feel or see the love. It was just a story of a bunch of kids in high school.
I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them so I was excited to read this one. I could not wait for the twists and turns which I was in another book I read by her. The twists and turns in this story became obvious at the half way point. The drama felt forced, and the ending did not sit well with me.
You get Lilith, Willow's, and in the end Nok's POV. I think getting Nok's POV was the worst for me. So detached. This is the worst story that I actually read from beginning to end in 2019. This is all my opinion. Reading is subjective.

▪▪▪ “You always look at me like that.” “Like what?” I breathe. “Like you can’t decide if you want to see me naked, or dead.” ▪▪▪
So this was an insanely interesting, addicting, surprising and suspenseful ride and I enjoyed every minute of it. I don't even know how to begin describing this book without giving too much away as it's really one of those books you just need to jump into blindly and see where it takes you.
Lillith and Nikosi's story was painful, firey and intense. It was gripping, it was savage and cruel at times. It also kept me guessing and I honestly did not know how it was going to end. Everything I thought I knew or guessed was so wrong but even though it was super frustrating and shocking at times I actually enjoyed the ending and couldn't see it going any other way though I'm sure not everyone would like the way it ended
This book is not for everyone as it does deal with some hard hitting and triggering topics and is dark at times so definitely take caution if you have any triggers as this may not be the book for you
**spoiler alert there is no HEA, not a traditional one anyway**
《book aesthetic made by me. I do not own the pictures, all found via pinterest》
“I am this cliff edge.” I’m beautiful...” “ “I’m dangerous” “I’m deceptive.”
This story is beyond Amazing. It is like nothing I have read. I was on edge the entire book and the author keeps you guessing. The writing, plot and pace are perfect. It’s twisty, suspenseful, dark, with love and sorrow. All the characters are layered and have purpose. Lilith is a strong and kick A** heroine. Nok is the perfect match to her verbal sparing. This is your next read! Go in Blind!
I have no words to describe this book without spoiling it. But I hands down believe this is the best book I have ever read and can’t wait to read more in this genre. I love this author and have read all of her books but this one....blew me away. Must read you won’t be disappointed.
"You always look at me like that" "Like what?" "Like you can't decide if you want to see me naked, or dead"
Not what I expected but not bad either. 3.5 stars
I thought this was some sort of zombie book going by the cover and name. Yea I have no clue why I thought that. Its also not RH. What it is is a psychological thriller with a FMC who is messed up in the head. She has no boundaries, no morals, no F***s basically to give.
The plot is all a bit vague at the beginning and you need to keep reading past half way to even get a little understanding of her motives. Why she turns up at this school and demands to know who the biggest asshole is. Who she immediately starts to stalk and try to seduce. Why is the question you'll ask yourself many, many times.
Without spoiling anything its the kind of book where the ending takes you completely by surprise, and its one for those who love a heroine who is a psychopath and the romance is love/hate. Its a bit long winded and I got a little bored 40-60% in, but then it picked back up again.
Brandy I am literally writing this for you, its up your street.
This is not at happy ending . And i didn't expect it at all! And i'm so mad that i lost my time reading such a long book to get that. Damn the first 90% was so so good and i suspected some things during the reading but NEVER EVER I WOULD GUESS THAT SHITTY ENDING😭 I'M DONE, why she had to ruin the book and kill her Wtf why should someone give 5 stars to it and enjoy it??????I will stop reading this author books right now because this is not the first time that she put in books things i don't like. Unfortunately its not for me anymore. At least she could add some warnings about it,add like "drama". So yeah i lost a lot of time and emotions trough this cuz in the negative votes no one mentioned that so i was reading it with "light heart" cuz i figured nothing like that will happen. Anyway ....sorry if i sound harsh but this is what i feel the sec i finished it.

Wow, where to start with this book except that one of my friends had told me to read it at least 50x before I finally got around to reading it. I had grabbed it as the cover drew me in as this is one of the best covers I have seen in a long time. I didn't know exactly what to expect, just that I had high expectations that it would be amazing. Normally when I have really high expectations for a book, it can be a bit of a letdown but OMG this book even exceeded my high expectations as it was an amazing mind-twisting novel. All the crazy twists and turns I didn't see coming and when truths and secrets were revealed - you as the reader are just blown away as you continue reading as you want more or in this case need more. The book starts with twins Lilith and Willow moving to a smalltown where their mum is an environmental scientist. Lilith starts school but Willow is at home as she is dying. Lilith starts school with revenge on her mind as years ago when the twins were sixteen, they suffered an atrocious tragedy that left them both broken and scarred. Lilith sets her sights on Nok - one of the local Indians from the reservation. He has grown to hate whites but there is something about Lilith and her craziness that draws him in. Nok's brother Nash also wants Lilith and so we see some competition occurring. What happens though when Lilith starts to actually fall for Nok and the twins' plan starts to collapse and so Willow decides as her dying wish to take things into her own hands and finish what Lilith had started. Can Lilith stop Willow from destroying the one thing she has that is good in the world or will it be too late? If you only get to read one AMAZING book for 2019, then please make it Naked or Dead as you won't regret it. This would have to be one of my top reads for 2019 which as someone who has read over 300+ books this year and I am extremely fussy with my reads, that is saying something. I now can't wait to read the author's next book Dance or Die and hope it will be just as great.
HOLY SHITTT. WTF DID I JUST READ? THIS BOOK- OOF I have a thousand opinions and am too tired to fully write it down (its literally 12.53 am) so here's a short one.
The plot of this book just keeps twisting it gives me a headache. The emotions I get from reading this has me stabbing a box and completely destroying it. That's how I feel. like I want to stab a person. I keep getting goosebumps and shivering that I had to wear a freaking jacket even though its hot as hell.
The characters in this book. I don't know how I feel about them. But Nok. Oh my gosh Nok. He is the embodiment of a true man. A man you would want to spend the rest of your lives with. A man who would die for you and love you even though you're fucked in the head. who will accept your inner demons and care for you in the most gut-wrenching way possible. He is the standard. Unlike most men, he understands how important consent is. A.E. Murphy really emphasizes this point by killing off all the sexual offenders in this story.
I like how this book represents racism and how it is received by society ie. name-calling, bullying, harassment. How racism can affect a person's life like Nok's hate towards white people.
If u like psychopaths as the heroine, then u should definitely read this. And... go in blindly. Please look up trigger warnings cause- oof it's brutal out there.
Let me tell you know that this author sticks her claws on you. From the moment I started this book I knew that it was instantly gonna become one of my favourite Bully Reads.
For one, the cover speaks so much volume and represents this book perfectly. You will be captivated by this authors words and this story line.
It was unlike anything I have read in the “Bully Genre”. This author definitely wasn’t afraid to take risks and venture out into the unknown.
I am going to keep this review as spoiler free as possible because I feel like anything I will say at this point will give away the storyline.
This is a book that us as readers need to read without knowing what to expect.
It’s twisted, suspenseful , it ventures down the path of darkness’s. All these characters have so many layers to them that you just want to pull back layer by layer and see what’s underneath. Sometimes what’s underneath can be just as scary.
This storyline is unlike anything you would have read, the author keeps you on your toes with guessing. The twist and turns that occur throughout will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This book is raw, real and utterly beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. This author does tackle some pretty real situations and I love how that she shows us the different angles and shows that they can sometimes spiral out of control.
Seriously expect the unexpected with this book emotions wise.
The banter from the couple in this book, started off as enemies to lovers. When lines are crossed, these two are like soul mates . You just know that they are meant to be together.
If you haven’t already picked up this book then I suggest you do because it will blow your mind.
I am speechless! I am literally speechless right now and I can't even tell you why, because I don't believe in spoilers. What I can tell you is that this book is not for the faint of heart and that you will need to keep a very open mind! I don't think I have actually ever read a book that had affected me in this way and I'm not sure I ever will again. While this did not go the way I wanted I can honestly say that it was for the best. Just brilliant writing, that had me hooked from the first paragraph and lordy, the biggest #PlotTwist I have ever encountered. Heart breakingly beautiful and now I'm going to go and find some ice cream to sooth my heart and soul. This is my honest and unbiased review.
This book seriously OMG!! I cannot say enough about this book! It sucked me in right from the beginning and left me with so many OMG and WTF moments that left me wanting to read faster and find out more. This book left me wanting more at the end and the twists and turn holy sh*t! you def wont see some stuff coming but it is def worth the read! Cannot wait for AE Murphy’s next book!
“I don’t complain about what I can’t change.” “That’s smart, peaceful even. Learning to just accept the inevitable instead of trying to fight it.”
This story is so enigmatic! Kept me reading until the very end. Ending felt a little flat to me, though. Not because for the lack of the wow factor - it was there, I just already saw it comming.
Oh hell. What the f*** did I just read??? I don’t even know how to rate this. I don’t even know an emoji to add. I’m just..... let’s just say, there’s a scorching romance, there’s a brain tumor sister, and there are more twists and turns in this book than you’ll ever see coming.
Omg what did I just read. So I went into this book blind. I didn't know what to expect. At first I thought it was your typical bully romance. But the deeper I got into the book the more theories I had. I was putting things together but I did not expect it at all. This was fantastic!
This book is everything. I am so in love with Lilith and Nok, I dont have any words. That ending....crushed me and I didnt even see it coming to prepare myself for everything that is Lilith.
Well...now that my mind has been truly and thoroughly F*CKED...let me see if I can put into words my thoughts about this book. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I loved it. Dark, twisted and the raw feelings expressed in this book are making it a TOP read for me this year!
All I'm going to say is if you have absolutely NO TRIGGERS and love dark reads READ THIS BOOK!!!!

4🌟 (I own the edit, not the pictures)
So ugh—this was a fucking wild ride. In order to make sense of my thoughts I'm going to split this review into two halves: the first will be covering the first 26 chapters (re: before the big reveal) and then the second will centre around the last 6 chapters and my spoiler-free thoughts on that plot-twist.
PRE-REVEAL So before the last 6 or so chapters, the plot follows a pretty predictable pattern but it's also well written and includes smaller, enticing details you don't generally see in NA books. Lilith starts off as the usual badass but broken heroine you see in these stories and then almost immediately after meeting the H wilts into an overly possessive, paranoid character that's wholly defined by her position as Nok's girlfriend. When I realised I'd begun disliking her I found myself faced with the decision to DNF it as I was only 49% of the way through or force myself to continue and hope it got more interesting—well, I finished it and I guess I kind of got my wish? So that leads me to the next part of my review.
POST-REVEAL Ok, so I don't think I enjoyed that plot-twist as much as I was supposed to. I understand wanting to spice things up and have a big, shocking reveal, but if there isn't enough build-up throughout the story you have to spend what oh-so-little pages you have left afterwards explaining what the fuck just happened—leaving an unsatisfactory and rushed ending. I liked how it attempted to make-sense of the random, scattered news reports, but in no way do those warrant such a dramatic turn of narrative. If the author would've spent more time developing the story on the other side of their plot-twist instead of focusing so wholly on the superficial narrative for the first 26 chapters, I think I would've enjoyed this one a hell of a lot more than I did.
So yeah...I didn't hate it but I also don't think I'd recommend it.
