Shiyuka lives on the peninsula Enoshima where she is generally happy but bemoans the fact that she isn't in a relationship. She dreams of having a perfect high school love yet never seems to find the right one. Things start to look different when the good-looking cousins Shin and Yu transfer to her school.

That is indeed the plot a nutshell: Shirayuka wants a boyfriend, two pretty boys enter the stage. And if you think this sounds like a lame plot, I'd be inclined to agree with you had I not actually read this and seen it for what it is. The blurb and opening chapters do Shirayuka a disservice - while it is true that she pines for having a good-looking boyfriend and may initially come across as superficial, I found her to be an extremely likeable main character. The truth is that a lot of girls do dream of having that one perfect boyfriend, especially at her age. I also believe that a lot of girls like to make themselves pretty because they don't feel secure enough about their looks. Shirayuka is actually a very natural and honest character and a lot of what appears superficial about her is actually pretty normal and also flows into her character development. She has spine, loves to laugh and shares joy with those around her while also realising that she doesn't have to be the most pretty girl in the world and that even a perfectly handsome guy might not be the prince she imagined.

As you can imagine, this story is pre-destined to have a love triangle of sorts. But I am always surprised that people are put off by this so easily as that too is a pretty common and normal part of love. While I would say that Shirayuka's feelings are consistent throughout the plot, there is more than one person who tries to win over one character or another's affections. It really comes down to a group of high schoolers sorting out their feelings - but it does it really well. Both Shin and Yu are likeable in their own way and are fleshed out characters. While they pretty much fall into the nice guy and bad boy arch type, they felt like well-rounded characters and I just loved seeing them interact with each other, I especially liked how Shirayuka built friendships with them. I will confess that I found Shin and Yu's childhood friend Rika mildly annoying though.

As a whole, I think there's a bit of a slice of life feeling to this romance series and I'm starting to believe that Chiba Kozue must really love the ocean. 1/3 is basically the better Blue: both have 8 volumes, take place on islands with lots of beach scenes and friendships clashing with growing romance. 1/3 managed to do what Blue couldn't which is basically having likeable characters who who are good to each other despite some disappointments in love.

This is not a highly original manga and there's nothing exciting happening, but I don't think that's the point. We just get to see a bit of these characters' high school life and it was just really nice to read about them. It helps that the art is absolutely gorgeous - I've liked Chiba's art from her early works on already but she has really developed a beautiful style that stands out, I'm particularly fond of this series' covers which are so beautifully painted whereas more and more artists decide to go digitally. If you like contemporary romance manga, this is definitely not the worst one you could pick up.

Aku jatuh hati pada komik ini.
Kisah seorang gadis yg ingin memiliki pacar ganteng lalu tibalah dua lelaki tampan yg pindah ke sekolahnya.
Gadis itu adalah Shiyuka, ia gadis yg biasa saja, namun ia selalu ditolak oleh para teman lelakinya.
Ketika bertemu dengan Shin, ia seolah-olah menjadi dewasa setelah cintanya ditolak oleh Shin.
Namun, meskipun sudah di tolak oleh Shin, mereka tetap berteman dekat.
Apakah Shiyuka akan bertahan untuk terus menyukainya atau ia akan menyerah?
Ah sungguh, aku ingin melanjutkan kisah ini.

High school love story 💙

Vielen Dank an den Verlag für das Rezensionsexemplar. Ich habe das Cover gesehen und mich auch direkt in das Cover verliebt. In diesem Manga geht es um Shiyuka, die sich immer und immer wieder verliebt, aber in den falschen. Da stehen aufeinmal zwei neue Schüler da, die Cousins sind und definitiv von den anderen Schüler der Schule herausstechen. Natürlich verliebt sich Shiyuka sofort in beiden, aber sie lernt langsam, sich keine Hoffnungen mehr zu machen und lässt alles seinen lauf.

Mir haben die Charakter wirklich gut gefallen. Shiyuka, Shin und Yu waren alle drei authentisch. Mit Yu musste ich allerdings erstmal warm werden, da er einfach so kalt gegenüber Shiyuka war und auch ein wenig überheblich war. Shin hat sich da neutral verhalten und hat sie sogar in Schutz genommen, was bei ihr nur mehr Gefühle ausgelöst haben. Shiyuka war etwas blind und hat sich immer hals über kopf in ihre Gefühle gestürzt. Dabei hat sie nicht bedacht, das sie sich zum gespöt macht. Aber klasse finde ich in diesem Band, das sie sich entwickelt. Sie hat ihre Gefühle preisgegeben und lässt jetzt alles ihren Lauf und hegt trotzdem noch Hoffnungen.

Die ganze Story hat mir wirklich sehr gut gefallen und macht sogar Sehnsucht nach mehr. Der Zeichenstil ist dabei auch wirklich wunderschön und im Vordergrund stehen auch immer die Charakter, obwohl die Details im Hintergrund auch sehr gut gezeichnet sind. Ich finde die Geschichte hat das gewisse etwas an Romantik und auch Freundschaft spielt eine große Rolle. Shiyuka hat einfach sehr viel Mut bewiesen, was ich toll finde. Leider endet dieser Band mit einem fiesen Cliffhanger, der etwas voraus zusehen war, aber dennoch kann man es kaum abwarten, den zweiten Band zu lesen. Am liebsten würde ich auch jetzt sofort anfangen mit dem zweiten Band und gar nicht mehr aufhören zu lesen.

Puh ha - das ist ja extrem schnulzig, I can't 😂 zumindest aktuell bin ich da nicht ganz so in der Stimmung für, haha. An sich mag ich die Stories von Kozue Chiba ganz gern, aber hier hab ich schon eine vage Vermutung, wie sich die Story entwickelt und ausgehen wird - weil oft ist es ja doch ziemlich ähnlich 😅 Shiyuka ist ziemlich naiv und tatsächlich tu ich mich mittlerweile recht schwer mit solchen Charakteren - aber man spürt schon, dass sie sich im Laufe weiterentwickeln wird - das wurde zum Ende hin schon sichtbar. Und was die beiden Jungs angeht… da hab ich auch schon so meine Vermutung. Daher ist die Story für mich aktuell schon ziemlich vorhersehbar und bringt mich nicht dazu weiterzulesen. Das Artwork ist aber wie immer sehr schön und die Atmosphäre wird wunderbar wiedergegeben. Der Lesefluss ist angenehm und man ist schnell durch - wie man es so von bisherigen Werken kennt. Aber wie schon erwähnt, das fesselt mich leider alles gerade nicht, weswegen ich die Reihe an dieser Stelle auch abbrechen bzw pausieren werde. Wenn man allerdings genau auf solche Stories Lust hat, dann greift gern zu - ihr werdet sicher euren Spaß damit haben! 💖

Salah satu manga yang aku tertarik ketika pertama kali melihat covernya yang berwarna apik. Pas baca manganya, beberapa gambarnya kelihatan masih agak kakilu, khususnya di chapter awal.
Ceritanya cukup ringan dan akhir yang agak menggantung bikin agak penasaran sama kelanjutannya.

Der Einstieg in diese Romance-Reihe hat mich wirklich sehr überrascht. Es hat sehr an „Verliebt in Prinz und Teufel“ erinnert. Ich musste direkt den zweiten Band hinterher lesen.
