My mate lies in a rotting cage at the bottom of the sea, and I'll do anything to get him back. Maybe he's the devil himself, but he made the ultimate sacrifice for me. When my plan backfires, I'm left with a lethal hex surging in my veins. Now, I only have a few days to live. And Salem? He's wrestling with a dark curse of his own, one that he says makes him burn.. He keeps saying this ends with one of us dead, that our story is a tragedy. But I'm determined to rewrite the tale fate has penned for us. If I can't, he warns I could die at his hands.

*contains mild spoilers (no plot spoilers)* ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶🌶🌶
Thank you to C. N. Crawford for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
I have been aching to get my hands on Rising Queen ever since I finished Fallen King in November. You can find my review for Fallen King here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This book continues straight after the events of Fallen King and although the opening chapters do provide a little comic relief (bull sack tea anyone?), this book is much darker, grittier and steamier.
It's overflowing with anticipation and heartache, with just the right amount of sexual tension. Each time I turned a page I didn’t know what I would be faced with. And If there’s anything that I love most in a book lately – it’s a romance against all odds. Aenor and Salem are certainly up against it in this book.
As their story develops, each time you feel a slight sense of relief, the rug is pulled from under your feet and it’s an emotional ride right up until the last page.
The duel POV helps give us an insight to both Aenor's and Salem's inner turmoil. The angst is not unlike characters by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare and everyone knows how much I love those authors. I make that comparison out of appreciation for C. N. Crawford's ability to make me want to throw my kindle across the room - especially when I'm screaming 'just shut up and kiss!'
Reading from Salem’s POV was so much fun. He is such a (dark) grey character, and other than his feelings for Aenor and his sister, he doesn’t really have any redeeming qualities. I said in my last review that Aenor was becoming one of my fave heroines - but Salem is definitely my fave anti-hero. We find out more about his past and none of it good. But – am I still trash for the Fallen King? Yes, yes, I am. Looks like Aenor is too!
I have yet to come across a book by C. N Crawford that I haven’t attempted to read in one sitting. Their writing style is so fast paced it’s hard not to get lost in the pages.
This is by far my favourite book of theirs that I've read to date. This finale wrapped the series up very well, but - I'm sad to say goodbye to Aenor, Salem and Ossian. I really hope we see more of them in the future.
Wish list:
I would have loved for Ossian to have had a more substantial role in this installment. He is so funny and has his own demons that I would have like to have seen explored more. He felt a little cast to the side.
With most of the other series’ there has always been a slight cross over with characters from the other books. I was hoping as this was the finale, that we may have had an appearance from a familiar face or two.
Favourite Quotes
“But Aenor. Why am I in Leather Trousers? These aren’t mine. I don’t want to be an alarmist, but I find that concerning.”
“Let me introduce you to Lyr, the half-divine, Morose sea-fuck.”
“Our bond was like a glass palace: beautiful but fragile.”
“Panic and I had been strangers for centuries, but now we were growing quite acquainted.”
“Our union is a brief, blinding explosion of light in the darkness.”
“Light without shadows is tedious.”
And more but they are slight spoilers.
Would I recommend?
Yes - if like me, you love fast paced romance, not afraid to feel your heart breaking as you read, feel a little guilty about loving the bad guy and enjoy myth and legend woven into the story. I recommend that you read the first two installments first though.
No other series/author has had me knee deep on Wikipedia looking up Cornish myths and legends like this series has. As a Cornish ‘maid’, whenever I read a book that mentions Cornwall it just adds to the experience for me.
Let me start off by acknowledging that I am the odd man out in that it seems almost everyone in the world loved this series except for me.
I did not hate it. But I was decidedly underwhelmed.
First, I will give the book credit where it’s due. At least this time the hero stayed the same person as in the book before, so there’s that. Second, it’s kind of ballsy to keep your villain-turned-hero still kind of, well, a villain even as the centerpiece of your book. Salem is not redeemed through love. Nor are we allowed to blame his twisted nature on his curse. He’s basically a pretty messed up dude, just one who happens to fall for Aenor. And finally, I will admit that I did not figure out the twists and turns of his backstory, so it was kind of cool to be surprised about who cursed him and why.
So now the rest.
As the story begins, Aenor needs to rescue Salem from the underwater cage where he was locked at the end of the last book. Stuff happens, she gets cursed, and then the rest of the book is spent figuring out how to undo her curse, undo his curse, and somehow let them fall in love when Salem swears it’s not possible for him to do so.
There's a lot going on, so if you are a fan of a constantly moving story, you’ll get that here. But for me, that happened at the expense of character development. I never understood why Aenor wanted to be queen. Other than her love for her human friend, I found her to be kind of selfish and flighty. The authors ruined Lyr to justify Salem as the love interest. And Salem himself? He just liked to set people on fire a lot.
There are some steamy sex scenes and a fair amount of action and fighting. I just struggled to care about any of it. I didn’t care about the characters. I didn’t feel their emotional connection. I didn’t believe they were in love so much as pulled together by a mating bond. It’s all kind of over-the-top and superficial at the same time.
It’s an easy read. And the cover art on all of these books is fantastic. I just don’t think this author team is the best fit for me. Your mileage may vary. So many other people love this stuff. Just read the other reviews on Goodreads.
Okay, I need to vent, because, well, this book was a little painful. I didn’t expect to love it, considering I hadn’t loved the first two either, but I was still curious to see how it would end, and I needed something easy after finishing my last epic read.
I’m really into dark and twisted characters who struggle with their dubious moral standards and/or own their inner darkness. These books were probably an attempt at something like this. But unfortunately, it was so badly executed that it didn’t feel that way. You need some character-building for it to work and it there just wasn’t enough.
Everything was too fast, and not in the amazing-and-action-packed way. It felt like none of the interesting parts were developed enough, and the parts that were boring were over-developed. The narration insisted so much on the feelings and emotions of the characters that they felt fake and forced. Just because Aenor insists on telling us she feels one way, doesn’t mean we can actually feel it and, really, that problem just sums up everything that was wrong with this book. Also, every single plot twist was just too obvious and the characters only appeared really dumb because we know exactly what’s going to happen. Every part of the plot was just too expected, too big, too fast, too convenient. The plot was just an excuse to write scenes that the authors had in mind and (very briefy) fill in the gaps between those “exciting” scenes. Gee, even the main sex scene was cliché and made me roll my eyes so many times. The “dirty talk”, the domination, the excessive reverence Salem has for Aenor’s body… maybe we didn’t need that much emphasis; like, can you be even less original? I usually like the descriptions of the attraction between mates, but this was too much. It’s a shame, because the build-up was the only thing that was not too bad. I would have even liked the fact that her consent is reminded pretty often, if the rest of the book didn’t have such a rapey vibe. And that, I just can’t get into.
The conclusion to this trilogy was chock full of excitement danger passion and heartbreak it was a runaway train of intensity that was action-packed and emotional. After the cliffhanger ending we return to discover just how Aenor is planning to liberate her mate from the soul cage he is currently inhabiting and then the whole consequences of the decisions she makes to free him.
The rest of this sees Aenor and Salem go up against a clock as they race to undo the damage that could mean Aenor's life is forfeit. We also have an unknown enemy lurking in the background and it has to do with Salem's curse and the secrets surrounding it that he is forbidden to voice.
I enjoyed this so much I did guess who the main adversary was but that didn't affect my enjoyment one bit. This last book had a much more emotional vibe and as a couple Aenor and Salem are so incredibly charismatic with plenty of red-hot tension and chemistry. I Adored Salem so much and am incredibly pleased he stayed true to his nature throughout. This series has been such a blast and I've raced through it super fast.
Yes!! I got the ending I desperately wanted! Such a well executed finale to the series. C. N. Crawford’s writing progressively improves from The Dark King to Rising Queen. There’s a HUGE difference in her writing.
The character development is over the moon. Aenor: Loyal and fearless to the core and will sacrifice ANYTHING and EVERYTHING for the people she loves. I didn’t like her in the first book but I really started to connect with her in the second book. She’s an amazing MC.
Lyr: Controlling and dull. To me, he didn’t have character development. He was stagnant throughout the series and I was hoping Aenor or Salem would kill him that’s how much I didn’t care for him. I really started hating Lyr whenever he tried to force a magic suppressing collar onto Aenor, and keep in mind they were lovers at this time. That scene angered me to my core. He’s TOXIC.
Salem: Badass and misunderstood. I connected with Salem ever since his character was introduced *not because he’s the “bad boy”*. A lot of shit happened to Salem. His wife secretly poisoned him and took advantage of him into marrying her, then she cursed him. I totally understand why he was a dick. I would be too if I got manipulated and played like he did. Salem and Aenor are soooo adorable together. I LOVE THEIR MATING BOND. I am obsessed with how protective Salem is over Aenor, like he slept on the floor in front of a door to protect her, my heart just exploded at that.
If C.N. Crawford could write a novella following Aenor and Salem having kids I would greatly appreciate that because I could only imagine how protective Salem would become of Aenor being pregnant and of his children. LIKE PLEASE I NEED A NOVELLA FOLLOWING AENOR BEING PREGNANT AND SALEM TURNING INTO A DAD!!

4.5 stars! I thought this book was the best out of all three books, so easily binge-able! There were enough twists and turns that it was super entertaining and unpredictable. Satisfying ending complete with redemptive character arcs, I'm here for it. Also, the book cover is absolutely beautiful and personifies Aenor wonderfully!
Oh, man this book. I devoured it. I stayed up really late last night reading it, woke up thinking about it and wasn't able to put it down until I finished it. The reason I was so obsessed with it is because it was utterly unpredictable, I had no idea what would happen next. I had no idea how will it end, will there be a happy end, will I be a mess after reading it. I absolutely adore Salem and Aeron together and I adore them individually and I adore this book and the prequel.
Overall, it felt superficial and underdeveloped (and somehow overwritten) which led to me not caring about the characters and the conflicts they faced. I was not convinced of any connection or romance that took place and I really did not enjoy the storyline of this third book.
I unfortunately did not like this series, but if you want to read a fast-moving fantasy with some spice, this could be for you.
This one was just okay. It was like a mix of the first and second book. Like the first book, it was nonstop action, and not even the good action, that it just became so predictable and frankly, annoying. We never had time to breathe. Everytime you think a conflict has been solved or is just about to, something happens to someone and everyone is go go go again. Like do these people ever sleep? How do the MCs even fall in love if they never really had time together besides in an action scene? I'm sorry, but sex doesn't count either. They might have sexual intimacy, but zero emotional. And then like the second book, it was nonstop dragging, not that the scenes were necessarily slow, but just so much stuff happening I was tired of it and so close to DNFing multiple times throughout the book.
Another thing that really annoyed me was the nonstop sex talk. Not even sex talk that has to do with the MCs being together like that, but sex talk of the hero's past sexual encounters with other women. Although I do like Salem, and he is definitely better than Lyr, and has even been celibate for a long time, it didn't feel that way because he was constantly bringing up other women. Everytime he tried to warn the heroine off or even just to talk about his past, he is always just saying how much he enjoyed effing women and wives, like c'mon, do we need to read about? Especially several times? I felt like he enjoyed talking about his encounters with OW more than his own with the heroine which is a problem. I think I am just so sick of books lately where the only fillers or details they can think of is about sex, or other people having sex, or how promiscuous everyone is. And what is up with the hero so easily flirting with the other women right in front of the heroine when he supposedly "loves" her? He's always physically trying to protect her, but never even protects her from people saying bad stuff about her, I.e. he flirted with 2 women right after they were rude to the heroine, and in front of her, because that's a great mate apparently.
P.S. Salem's sister and Lyr? Bleh. If they get a story, definitely not reading it. Who would want to be with someone as dumb as Lyr who also slept with your brother's mate? ON SCREEN too Gross.
Overall, this was a pretty easy read, but not one I really enjoyed. The writing is good but the plot devices used as fillers really turned me off. I never got the revenge I wanted either so that sucks. I'm not sure I will be reading anymore of this author's works yet, but after how disappointing this book was, I don't think I will.
We are at the concluding book in the series, and what a book it is! Aenor and Salem have grown so much in the series that they almost seem like different people. I also really liked Aenor’s friend Gina so much I’d almost like to see her get her own series, even Ossian should get his own series. Heck, I liked all the side characters, even the bad ones. And speaking of the bad ones, what a surprise the end was; I did NOT see that coming! This author’s books are getting better and better, and they aren’t shabby to begin with. If you love paranormal romance, you really need to give this series and book a try. Recommend! I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Amazing! This story ended in an imperfectly perfect way. The drama and plot twists within this book made me bite my nails down to stumps! Lots of great foreshadowing and excellent character growth, made this story a roller coaster of emotions. One minute your mushy and loving, the next angry and frustrated before slowly moving into an oddly heightened sense of yourself. (Cough...cough...) Over all this story was by far my favorite. My last comment, I hate that stupid “one true love” chick with a firery passion (wink, wink). Ha!
The mMC is “bad” and incapable of love…yet in this installment he has a wife, a true love and a mate…AND they’re all different people 🙄 what kind of hot mess express is this? Then couple that with the unnecessary and all too frequent smut scenes…my eyes rolled so much they almost got stuck in the back of my head.
Рідко зустрінеш настільки погану серію, де герої не поважають один одного навіть як вороги. Дуже немагнітні герої, такі грубі. Це було нецікаво читати.
Aenor is despondent. Her fated mate Salem took his sister’s place in a soul cage at the bottom of the sea in order to save Aenor’s life. So how can Salem, aka Lucifer, be all bad? Despite his protests that he is evil and can never love, Aenor now knows that’s bunk for he sacrificed himself for her. And she realized too late the pull between them was the elusive Fae mating bond.
Now Aenor’s sole purpose is to discover a way to save Salem while not allowing the evil fuath to burn the world to ash. And so much for Lyr and his help, the wanker. But Aenor only has a few days to save Salem as the deadline for his destiny is set for Samhain.
This was a fantabulous ending to an amazing trilogy! When I started the series I was certain I was all about Lyr. Turns out, nope! Lyr ends up being, well ... yeah. Definitely not Aenor’s dream guy. But Salem ... why is he so hot? Cause he’s Salem, that’s why!
Again, this book was one roaring adventure after another with nary a breath in between to pause. There are ruined kingdoms, evil witches, fire-filled fuath, prophecies, destinies, hot gods, and the like. Aenor is a sassy main character who stays true to her objectives. She is loyal to a fault. And of course I knew Salem, despite being Lucifer, had lots of good in him. I mean, he loves cats. How can anyone who loves cats be bad, true?
More than anything, though, this is a love story. And I am very pleased.
All I can say it was stupid of me waiting 3 days of reading the final book
The book was a whole lot of drama Salem want to the be a god and have Aenor And that Aenor doesn't want him to leave and it goes on and on, it was boring and I finish it only because I liked the two previous books
((The only surprise was that Beira Is Salem wife))
So Beira Trick Salem into marrying her and when he found out he cursed her and his mother vanished her into the winter forest As for Beira, she cursed Salem and his cursed was put the world on fire
And here comes Aenor whom she caught in all that While she had a curse on her own from saving Salem from under the water and in all this drama he wanted to stay with her as her destined mate and the same time want to leave to haven and return as a god while she wants him on earth with her Its was a disappointing storyline I expected more due to the previous books which I enjoyed a lot

This is the thrilling climax to Court of the Sea Fae. Aenor will do whatever she has to save Salem, even at a great personal cost to herself. Aenor and Salem will try everything to save her. They are mates that are fighting it. Salem and Aenor grow closer with every obstacle that is in there way. Will being mates be enough to save Aenor or even Salem's life before it is to late.
There are so many things going on in this book, I am not going to say to much. I don't want to give anything away. There are so many great twists and turns in this book, the end of the book will really get you. I highly recommend you read this book. If you haven't read this series yet, highly recommend you do so. I am sad to see the end of this series and characters.
I received an ARC copy of this book, this is my honest review
OMG what an ending!! I think if it was any other ending it would not have felt right for this series. It had all the feels, from laughing, facepalming, being angry at a certain idiot (who else but Lyr), to just crying big fat tears. This instalment was rife with twists and turns, revelations and despair. Loved it!
If I have to mention one point that I found a tad lacking, it would be the pacing. Beginning and end were superb, but around the middle, it slowed down a bit too much.
The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors and yes, there is sex described (if that is important to you).
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and all in all another great series from one of my favourite authors. Can't wait what will be next! :D
This is the final book of the Court of the Sea Fae trilogy. In the previous books, we get to watch as Aenor gets her stolen power back and reclaims her birth rate. In this final installment, Aenor must find a way to release Salem from his watery cage without unleashing hell on earth. Aenor’s plan to release him, doesn't end as she anticipated, and she is cursed to die a slow death for sins in her previous life. This finale was a fitting conclusion to this series, and I grew to enjoy Aenor’s journey to be at Salem’s side. They both sacrificed for each other to get to the ending they didn't think was possible. If you're looking for a compelling story about soul mates and magic Of the Seas and stars, then this is your series. (4/5 rating)
What an amazing end to a brilliant series, I am truly sad to see this one finished I fell for the characters in the first book and they just grew stronger as the story continued. Aenor journey has so many obstacles in the way of her true fate, the action.. heat.. and humour continues the whole way through Rising Queen. What an amazing read, I can’t recommend this whole Series enough.
I started reading today and just could not put this book down. C.N. Crawford knows how to literally put us on a rollercoaster with major twists. I think I yelled a couple times...like no way?! God why?! Why didn't I see that coming? 🤦At least a dozen times! lol The ending though 😍🙌
Well...I was not pleasantly surprised. Apart from the storyline, which just wasn’t really my thing, there were typos, contradictions... At times I wondered if anyone actually proofread this. Not my cup of tea and a lot of issues, so only one star.
