The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

Bridget: really really short and rushed. I didn't get enough of a sense of Bridget or Trace to actually be invested in their relationship. I didn't sense a whole lot of chemistry between them and their backstory was a bit weak.

If it had been longer than 136 pages all of this could have been addressed

Christy; skimmed through hers because I couldn't stand her personality or her agenda.

Skye: I had been waiting for this story and yet I was underwhelmed. There was more conflict in this so while it made the story the most interesting of the compilation, it also shone on a light on the omission of relationship development.

It bothered me that in Bridget's story Jake was shy and sort of endearing, in Christy's he became a bit cold and unappealingly pragmatic (I never got the sense that he actually loved Christy) and in Skye, he's still pragmatic but all of a sudden he has a fire that the previous books have no indication of. What I'm trying to say is that his character development baffles me. It's like reading about three different characters that happened to be named Jake.

Megan: skimmed through. Selfish like her sister Christy so I couldn't really dig her (I thought that since the last book and yes she sort of redeemed herself....).

My biggest complaint was after a while the characteristics of the girls ran together so that they sometimes seemed like one in the same.

This was not my favorite LLM.

Four women. Four stories. (There is a fifth woman sneaking through the four other women's stories.) All four are related and having a difficult time when they each meet a man who gives them security and love. The way this romance happens to each of them is interesting and enjoyable. The reader gets some idea of the history and hardships in Nevada post-1865 after the War Between the States ends, but otherwise it is a light read.

Reading all four stories together made it better than reading them one at a time. Although I didn’t like the repetition of facts and set up, it helped make the shorter stories feel more substantial.
There is so much more that could have been done with these women if only she had taken the time.
I really wish she could learn to vary the sex scenes.

This is one of the best books I have read in this genre in awhile. I found myself trying to guess what come next and although the 4 seperate stories could've been longer, I loved that they got straight to the point. I laughed out loud a few times and smiled several times throughout these stories. I loved the sense of family and Lord all those babies! Loved it! 5 stars!

Four books in one about the spirited McQuarry women who shared an inheritance in the Nevada Territory - all wonderful, delightful, and real west realistic books about four tough determined people in the tough times of the early 1800s west. All great reads ... every one! Full of warmth, action, suspense, rich realistic characters and beautifully painted settings.

Four women move out west on inherited land. I loved seeing the family dynamic grow between them. They start as estranged cousins and work though their struggles, learn more about their past and rebuild relationships with each other. They each fell in love with great men and all had their own individual stories that intertwined together in a beautiful way.

Very few people can transport you through time like Linda Lael Miller. I loved the town of Primrose and the feisty women in it. Easy read, great characters, family names that pop up here and there. Love it!

I enjoyed this book, but the separate stories of all three women were so similar. They all initially didn't care for their future husbands, but in the matter of days (or so it seemed) they were in love and married. The female characters were somewhat strong-willed and fiery, but all settled down.

Some good bits, lots of lovely description, good use of a building cast of characters/setting/plot... But some of it ran together a bit in places and the sex scenes were meh.

interesting read.

Kept me into the story and was a good read! I liked the way the characters were described as individual personalities. Good twists to each of the girls lives.

I really enjoyed reading Linda Lael Miller again. It was nice to have all 4 stories together in 1 book, with a little bit of mystery that carried through to the last book.

This is one of those books that's kind of hard to rate, because it's 4 stories (the story of 4 cousin's; Bridget, Christy, Skye, and Megan McQuarry in 1 book.)Which is also why it took me so long to read. And some parts were better than others. Some stories better than others. The women Of Primrose Creek is also a Historical romance (as a lot of Linda Lael Miller's books are.) Set in the frontier (leate 1800's.) FYI....I LOVE that the women actually have cool names. Not the standard, usually horrid names women had during this time period.

Bridget McQuarry lost her husband (who she didn't really love. Thought of more as a friend.) during the Cival war; now starting a new life out West with her son, Noah, (the son her husband never got to meet.) She never dreamed his best friend, Trace Qualtrough (the man she was REALLY IN LOVE with!) could spark such forbidden passion.

Christy...
All Christy McQuarry wanted was a secure, steady home life in Primrose Creek. Lawman, Zachary Shaw is hardly husband material.

Skye...

Lumber baron (and the man Christy had originally set her sights on in her story. So she would never have to worry about money again.), Jake Vigil took a chance on Skye's sweet healing love. Now their delicate bond faces the ultimate test when a business deal threatens to tear them apart.

Megan...
A shocking revelation greets Megan when she returns to primrose creek. Will placing her trust in landowner Webb Stratton bring hope-or more heartache?

Through in secrets kept by the women's beloved now deceased grandfather, and Caney, the black nanny? who has been mother to all 4 girls since they were infants.

A romance for Caney herself. Which I LOVED!

All in all a pretty good book. Though a bit longer than I usually like (with having 4 in 1.) And I think I enjoyed Skye and Megan's (the 2 youngest of the women.) stories a little better than Bridget and Christy's. Although I just LOVED Christy's Zack. Actually I think I liked all the MEN over the heroine LOL!

This book is 4 stories: Bridget who has lost her husband in the Civil War. She starts a new life in Nevada territory. When he husband's best friend. Trace Qualtrough shows up as he promised his dying friend to take care of his wife.

Christy was looking for a rich man to married so she could have a secure home life in Primrose Creek. When she started having feelings for Marshall Zachary Shaw, it wasn't what her mind wanted but her heart told her different.

Skye was sweet on lumber baron Jake Vigil but he had eyes for Christy. With a change in circumstances when Christy marries Zachary Shaw. There's a chance for her and Jake.

Megan leave Primrose Creek to seek her own way as an actress, but her dreams are shattered by a man she trusted. Now she's come home and landowner Webb Stratton brings her hope that maybe she can find the life she's been looking for.

Enjoyed the read!

As usual Linda Lael Miller has writen a great saga. The four cousins share an inheritance, land in the Navad Territory. This book has four in one, so I was able to follow of their lives as they build their homes and find their men. Interesting that they took it for granted that a trip into town every day was a 2 mile walk. I was sorry to see the last story end.
I have just discovered that another book is out telling the story of a descendant of the original family in Primrose Creek. Look forward to discover how the progresses.

Apparently these were four separate books combined into this one rerelease edition. This historical story is written about four women in a family relationship. The story centers around a piece of land that the four have inherited from their grandfather. We learn that they are not a close a family as they probably should be and why. Interestingly enough we learn a lot more than that. The storyline moves quite nicely through each woman's tale of finding a new life, a new home, love and family.

I love the interweaving stories of the family. I love the history and the roughness of the American West. But as always it renews my faith in everything that will be, will be. I love a true romance and this was 4 in 1.

Great book! The 4 books about 4 women from the same family are combined in this edition. Each book focuses on one of the four women but includes the other 3 and includes a family mystery. The way the settings are described make you feel as if you were there when the West was wild and unsettled!

Fair. Easy reading. Story of four women who thought they were cousins. Turned out to be sisters. They equally inheirted property left to them by their grandfather. they each fell in love and married local men. It was a good book, nothing exceptional about it, but comfortable.
