A well-written story, a great plot, and strong characters.
This is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished and thrilling science fiction that I have had the pleasure to read. It’s that superb that I am finding it difficult to pick fault with it in any way. The story picks up right where the last left off, switches between past and present in order to fill in the details and enlighten us about what is currently happening and why. Bangs' writing is incomparable and grabs you by the throat where you stay for the entirety of the story.
The plot seems to flow more easily than in book two and has you fully engaged and captivated by the tension, excitement and danger running throughout. It's highly entertaining, fast-paced, heart pounding, and nerve-wrecking for the characters we have grown to love and admire as they try to evade the enemy. But don't be fooled! This requires concentration to keep up with and is quite the challenge, however, those who make it through are richly rewarded and come to realize just how phenomenal this book. The complexity and intricate world-building had me immersed in the world so much that I didn't want the book to conclude.
It is a great read with an unexpected ending. It was quite a treat and I will certainly read more from this author.
Richard D. Bangs does not over bloat this novel with too much backstory. He gives us what we need to know to make the plot work.
For the sake of spoilers I won’t go into too much depth. I did not really know anything about this book going in to it, other than what the cover writing shows. I loved discovering things as I read on.
It’s a science fiction adventure with a little something for everyone. There is a small teaser at the end, but if Richard Bangs was to turn his attention to a different story, I’d be just as interested in seeing his style applied to a new set of characters and aliens.
Final Verdict: This is a great novel with a unique premise and interesting characters. I really enjoyed reading this and I highly recommend it to everyone.
This is the first book I read by Richard D. Bangs and it got me hooked.
I really enjoy books that draw you in and create such a picture of in depth detail that you really feel as if you could be there. Forgotten is one of those books. It conveys the scope of the universe and the enormity of the events involved brilliantly.
It took me some time to read and almost as long to write a review. The action is realistic, the setting is beautifully described, the characters are not what I expected, and the outcome took a little bit to process. This is an author to follow.
I can recommend this book to every sci-fi lover out there and really hope you give this story a chance. Please don't be scared of its many pages!
I've read all three of the series, and see the author's growth. Interesting premise and characters. It wraps up a little fast, with one long standing character abruptly dealt with, and a surprising last minute change (a conscious planet) that seems like another book altogether. In brief, good first series, but I would have liked a more organic resolution, not just a change of scene and focus.
Sixty years ago, during the winter, I used to read books by the "Northern Lights" from our farm along the US/Canadian border. Looking through the light show I couldn't help but think there has to be other life out there. I didn't know it then, but Rich was living a similar life fifty miles to the east. We both used to dream similar dreams but he has been able to put it down on paper. I'm sure glad he did. Excellent series.
