This is an amazing book, spanning the history from the Naseriyyeh to the fall of the Qajar dynasty. The author's nationalist sensibility is controlled by a sobriety and respect for the facts of history. The insights it offers on the Constitutional period is worth the time and cost of the book.
One feature of this work is its mastery of the Russian language sources available to the author, which adds a fresh dimension lacking in the (generally mediocre) historiography of the period. On the other hand, although the author, though he includes the Persian standards of the period in his bibliography, refers to only one or two of them, which is a severe defect.
