This book by Brandon Goleman isn't about how to manipulate others or the art of persuasion. Instead, it's about how to tell when someone is trying to manipulate you and how to protect yourself from those who use these techniques.
It's easy to read and has a lot of definitions. It talks about the inner thoughts of people one meets in their personal and professional lives.
How can you tell what someone's life is like based on their social media feed alone? In this digital age, emotional intelligence is more important than ever. I was hoping to learn more about how to understand some of these complexities and subtleties; however, the ideas discussed are just the tip of the iceberg. It would have been a richer read if there were more examples and case studies to help understand some of these concepts.
It is primarily the author's musings, but some extremely commonplace views are voiced; there was no discovery, only confirmation of how similarly we all feel.
