Life Without You

Rate this book
Once upon a time in a land not so far away, a man and a woman fell in love. They were very happy. Until one day they weren’t – their happily ever after disappeared.

This is their story.

Summer

Have you ever been in love?
The kind of love that leaves you breathless and makes you feel like you can fly?
I have…. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I let him become my everything; my sun, moon and stars but that wasn’t enough for him.

What he did nearly destroyed me.

My husband’s betrayal taught me the hard way that once trust is gone, it can never be regained. He won’t ever be part of my life again.

Alex

If I could sum myself up in one word, just one, then personally I’d pick fool. Misguided, dumb fool.

I made a mistake.

A mistake so big that the future I had planned out with the love of my life vanished in the blink of an eye. I didn’t see it at the time. That would have been too easy, by the time I realized what I lost it was too late. It was my own fault; I can’t blame anyone else. Because of it I lost the one woman that meant everything to me.
But I’m telling you now if fate ever gives me a second chance with her……I swear I’ll never let Summer slip away from me again.

Nasty hero, not redeemable. No grovelling. Only came back to the heroine when the OW who he was cheating on his wife with cheats on him. Heroine to me was second choice. I felt the passion of the hero's feelings towards the OW 10 times more than towards the wife (which should NOT be the case lol)

Sometimes I read cheating books to read about the journey of forgiveness. This felt unrealistically naive. The heroine was a pushover, the hero disgusting. He cheats on her, takes OW on a vacation his wife planned, feels like he cheats on OW when he's with his wife, publicly humiliates her, talks about how good the sex is with OW and how unattracted he is to the heroine....

If the OW didn't cheat, the hero would be in a very happy relationship with her. I would've liked it more if the hero decided by himself that he made a mistake, and it wasn't instigated by the OW cheating.

I'm sorry but this wasn't a romance. I felt like the hero went back to the heroine cause she's his safety blanket. He didn't deserve her. Besides, I truly do believe that his actions are unforgivable. But if they had to be forgiven for a HEA, then at least make him grovel intensely which there wasn't any.

I'm sorry but I couldn't believe in this love story as this wasn't true love for me. It kinda disgusted me reading the story of this nasty hero ... (Sorry)

Ps: even tho he loves his wife he has ONS with other women during separation? Dude at least redeem him by keeping him celibate here.... Jesus.

There is nothing in this book that made me believe that the hero truly loves the heroine. She's second best, and she shouldn't have had to become and super sex freak in the sheets after their separation for the sex to become hot. It should be hot from the deep emotions they have.

I'm not even shelving this as a romance because there was NOTHING romantic about this dismal, wronged-wife, extreme fantasy. You know, the one where the cheating husband almost instantly gets his comeuppance and comes crawling back, to the disdain of the saintly, martyr wife.

I have enjoyed romance books where infidelity was an issue. If an author can pull off the Herculean task of convincing the reader why her characters deserve a second chance even after they betrayed each other, I say kudos to the author.

What I couldn't stomach in S. P. West's Life Without You was not merely that the male protagonist cheated on his wife, it was how deliberately cruel he was, he never atoned for it, and he only came crawling back because his mistress dumped him..

He tells his wife point blank that he never loved her, he felt trapped into marrying her, she was boring in bed, and the OW is the love of his life. Nothing made him waver from his single-minded mission to live his happily-ever-after with his mistress. Not hurting his wife. Not getting shunned by his friends. Not losing his job. Only when she kicked him to the curb did he crawl back to his wife with his tail between his legs, and even then, he has the nerve to tell her he only fell for the OW because she could suck him like a vacuum. You know, the love of his life. This guy was so crass ugh.

The author went to great length to drive the point that he had a substance abuse problem, suggesting that this was what made him act out of character and terribly hurt his wife. Problem: He started hitting the sauce after he had already started an emotional affair with OW colleague, and then hit rock bottom while already in the throes of a full on physical affair.

So don't tell me he was high as a kite or drunk off his ass from the get go and therefore the whole sordid thing was a drug and alcohol-fused mistake. The flaw was in his narcissistic, immature, dishonorable, character to begin with. The substance abuse just allowed him to unleash his true personality.

The female protagonist was a complete and utter idiot. With all the clues staring her in her face, this waste of hair spray still could not put two and two together. And even after everything was s-p-e-l-l-e-d out for her, she still pined for him. And when she had no choice but to accept the extent of his betrayal, she engaged in shrieking tantrums that were so embarrassing to read. What happened to dignity?

As if all this wasn't enough, there were glaring editing errors.

I didn't want to wait around for this train wreck to finally crash and burn.

Finished re-read 8-22-20. This was just as awesomely angsty as I remember it being. I'm sure I'll be reading this one all over again in the future too.

Original Review:

***FIVE GUTTING STARS!***

I loved every second of this story. I bought this story as soon as it was re-released, and I could kick myself for waiting this long to finally start it. I adored SP West's Love, Hate & Us, and I had the gut feeling this story was going to be just as awesome. I was right.

SP West is one of a very few authors who aren't afraid to delve into infidelity stories. These stories are my FAVORITE kind of stories lately.

And West writes them brilliantly, eliciting every 'kick to the gut' feeling a woman could go through after finding out her spouse is cheating on her, and then devastatingly watching her marriage crumble to an end. This story had all the gut wrenching feelings of suspicion, heartbreak, devastation, and then hate. I was devastated for Summer. Her treatment by Alex was brutal.

And Alex was such a fucking asshole. He truly needed a good throat punch so many times in this story.

But Summer didn't let Alex destroy her completely after he shattered her. She got her life back again and refused to let him ruin her for good. Then Alex finally pulled his head out of his ass and became a decent human again. This entire story was fantastic with all the turbulent feels, and somehow this amazing author was able to magically bring me back from completely hating Alex, to loving him again. THAT is talent.

I only have one tiny complaint:

I loved this story, and I hope this amazing author writes many more. It's definitely not for the people who hate cheating stories, but I cannot recommend this one enough for those of us who love them!

How could she just forgive him after all the cruel and nasty things he said and did to her?? She should have ended up with someone else I think that would have been a fitter ending because in no way did I feel sorry for him or believed in his sorry speech, I am actually so pissed off at the ending!

UPDATE: I created this shelf as tribute to heroine: "heroine is a boring lay"
------------------
==>this woman is a waste of hair spray<=== LOL!
=================
What he did was unforgivable.
He treated her like crap and said horrible things to her. He abandoned her at the time she most needed and behaved like a cheater bastard.
In his vision the wife was a boring, bad in bed and without ambitions and expendable. Kicked her on the curb like yesterday's trash and considered the mistress as the love of his life. Left his wife with nothing, no home, no friends and heartbroken. Selfish bastard who just thought his own well being.
She accepts him back yet ... deserves to be cheated by being a doormat.

"I was thinking about leaving her anyway. Better get it over with now than string it out for a few more months. Hell, I’ll tell her I’m leaving tomorrow, pack my shit and head over to Rach, bang her mercilessly then see a divorce attorney next week."

"I’m tired of living a lie; I’m tired of sneaking around, of hiding. Of fucking my girlfriend in some cheap hotel room two blocks away from work on my lunch break because we can’t spend the night together."

"No, what I do is stick my dick in her pussy, I thrust a few times, I cum, roll over and go to sleep. Then I feel guilty for cheating on Rach."

"It fucking sucks that I met such a hot piece of ass like Rachel after I got married."
"Rachel, now she gets me. She understands. That hot piece of ass doesn’t want kids, she wants a career and that suits me just fine. Rachel cares about me, that’s how this whole thing with her started."

"Summer. I even took my wife out on a date to the movies. The only problem was that when I kissed my wife, I was thinking about Rachel; about how she made me happy, how the sex was incredible and more exciting than it had ever been with Summer."

"being with Rach has made me realize my life with Summer was boring."

"He leans down and gently kisses the bitch on the top of her head in the familiar way that he used to do with me. Alex."

“Why? Come to beg me to come home? Hoping I’d changed my mind?” He taunts. “Well I haven’t. We are over.”

"After being with someone as selfless as Rachel; someone who puts me, my wants and my desires first, who makes me hard just looking at her, who’ll drop to her knees in the stationary room as soon as I give the word. Rachel wants to go party, she acts her age – she’s fun, exciting, up for anything, she doesn’t want to be tied down with kids and shit. Summer is none of that."

"Rachel though, she’s not a side piece. She’s the real-deal to me."

"The worst part was see that Alex loved her back. He had fallen in love with someone else; he’d been cheating on me. How long had it been going on for?"

"The date I’d booked for us to go to Maui. Maui. The vacation we couldn’t go to because Alex was attending a conference, a conference in Wisconsin he’d said.
"I can’t forget that he lied about the vacation I’d booked, he hadn’t sold the tickets; he’d gone on the holiday, the one meant for us. Instead of taking me, his wife, he took his fucking mistress with him instead. Mistress. Alex has a mistress."

"I was pregnant but before I could tell Alex, he’d left me for another woman and then I’d lost the baby."

LIAR==>
“Rachel can have my slopping seconds, but I won’t have hers. Who knows what I might catch,”

“I made a mistake marrying you, Summer."

“when I met Rachel, I knew that we’d been living a lie. We’d been coasting Sum, not going anywhere. You have no ambition, no drive. Hell, you don’t want to go out and party. If I’m honest, having sex with you... was boring. It’d become a chore. I knew it was the end for us when I struggled to get it up for you. Christ, it was like being married to a fucking nun.”

“Rachel, well she’s the opposite of you. She just has to look at me and I’m hard.”

“Just, tell me one thing,” he silently dips his head in agreement, “what is she to you?” He looks down the hallway, as if searching for an answer before saying quietly, “she’s the love of my life.”

"I’m free to bang as many chicks as I want, when I want. Not that being legally bound to someone else stopped me in the last year."

"Tell me, does a good man lie to his wife so the he can take his sidepiece on vacation with him? The one that his wife booked for him and her in the first place?"

"Hours of putting her heart and soul into showing me that she loved me while I betrayed her repeatedly with another woman."

"I was leaving behind a life I’d loved, my friends all because of him. He’d taken away my heart, my home, my trust and yet he had the nerve to turn up here and demand to talk to me?"

"I fucked up big time. Left her for a woman who could suck like a vacuum.”

“Just remember, before you drop your knickers for him, that there is a reason he’s your ex.”

Unbelievable, she took the cheater back 🤮

To sum the book up:
🚩 H cheated on h with his co-worker
🚩 H took OW on Maui vacation the h initially booked for themselves, while h believes he’s a few days at a work conference
🚩 H lies to h, claiming he isn’t having an affair with OW
🚩 H lies to h, tells her he’s only with OW a few days when she sees them making out in public on a park bench
🚩 H changed all passwords on his phone and e-mail account and even unfriended and blocked h on Facebook, before he even told her their marriage was over
🚩 H changed his status on Facebook to in relationship with the OW before telling h their marriage is over
🚩 H changed his Facebook profile picture to a picture of him on the Maui beach, taken by the OW
🚩 H moved in with OW after he left the h
🚩 H still had mediocre sex with h during his affair, while thinking of OW and feeling guilty for cheating on said OW
🚩 H is on drugs, later alcohol too
🚩 h was pregnant, but she was bound to lose the baby only for this to happen sooner due to all the stress the H caused
🚩 H visits the h with divorce papers, tells her he never supposed to marry her, that having sex with her was like having sex with a nun, that the OW only has to look at him and he was already getting hard and that the OW was the love of his life
🚩 H realizes his mistake when he receives the papers of the divorce being finalized
🚩 H got cheated on by the OW
🚩 H lost his job because of his relationship with the co-worker OW
🚩 OW then leaves him for another co-worker
🚩 H finally realizes he fucked up and the grass wasn’t greener on the other side
✅ Karma is a bitch 🤡
🚩 H becomes a stalker, h even has a restraining order against him
🚩 H becomes a pining, addicted mess
🚩 H can’t even keep his dick in his pants during separation
🚩 H has a list of rules he has to follow when having sex with random OW
🚩 H may not forget said rules, so he pinned them on his refrigerator
🚩 H is sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry 🤮
🚩 H is in hospital after a car accident, wakes up from his coma and finds h besides his bed
🚩 H wants a second chance
🚩 h throws in the OW hurt again
🚩 h caves in
🚩 H finally has what he wished for, remarried the h and a new baby on the way

This book only has 🚩🚩🚩🚩 all over the place.
H does grovel and is remorseful but HELLLLL TO THE NOOOOO would I ever take this lying scumbag piece of cheating shit back!!

The only way this book would’ve satisfied me, is when the H would’ve died in the car accident and NOT his FAITHFUL best friend who had a baby on the way with his wife. Worst outcome EVER!!!

Safe to say this book is NOT SAFE for all safety readers out there.

Dear author,
Please remove the “romance” tag from this book. No sane woman looking for a love story will read this trash. Read Naksed’s spoilers. This book is trash.

- Cheating on wife/h.
Sex scenes with ow.
H infatuated with the ow.
-H tells h she is boring in bed. He never lover her. He loves the ow.
-H cancels on their 2nd honeymoon vacation but takes the ow there instead.

-he only crawled back to h, when the ow dumped him.

- h is a doormat, takes him back.

Nope, I give up. This needs such a damn good edit, it's so bad it's totally detracting from the read so I've decided to call it quits at 20% - hence no rating.

There really is NO excuse to publish a book that lacks basic editing, and when I say basic I mean punctuation, missing words, tense changes, etc. Such a shame as cheating, arsehole zeroes and other women drama rama is like catnip but I can't see myself getting past the editing issues.

*************Spoiler Alert*************

Facebook Lover

"I see that quite a few people had recently posted him messages of congratulations. Confused, I continue to scroll down until I see a message posted by a mutual friend, four days ago that read;

What happened with you and Summer? Are you getting divorced?

To which he hadn’t replied

A little way down, I finally see what everyone had been referring too. A small, innocuous little message that broke my heart that little bit more.

Alex Thorson is in a relationship with Rachel Slaine.

The bastard.

That cheating fucking arsehole had changed his status two days before he walked out on me.

“Don’t do it.” Violet whispers next to me. “You’ve seen what an arsehole he is. Don’t torture yourself anymore.”

“I have to,” I choke out and click.

I read each comment underneath the death knell of my marriage; most of them questioning Alex’s sanity until I see one from her.

Yay! I love you!!! XXXXX

To which my husband…MY HUSBAND, had responded.

I love you too, baby.
Baby.

Another woman had told my husband that she loved him; he’d replaced me with another woman. This wasn’t something that had happened after we had split. There, for all the world to see, was the irrefutable proof of my husband’s infidelity.

Do you know what the worst part is? The worst part was see that Alex loved her back. He had fallen in love with someone else; he’d been cheating on me. How long had it been going on for?"

Depending on which way you lean this book has got to be one of the best saga of infidelity written or the best fairy tale of the year.i did not like any of the characters. The author practically demonizes the husband in part one as he relegates to the reader about how boring his wife is in bed & all the various sexual scenes he enacts with his mistress in pages full of rich carnal detail. How hot she is,how he loves her and not his wife.

Part 2 has his downfall and his struggle towards getting Summer his wife back after he so callously publically discards her.So if you enjoy bleeding a bit while you read than this book is going to be a delight of pain as it is very well written and as with all fairy tales there is a HEA.

*Although one thing puzzles me.He has had one night stands during the three year separation and she has been 'almost' celibate so where did she suddenly learn to become a seductress in bed and suddenly become exciting whereas before he viewed her as a boring lay?

The greatest issue in this book is that it focuses on the hero’s cheating while the main issue and the one that leads him to throws his life to the toilet is another.
He’s addicted.
Coke, weed, alcohol.
But mainly cocaine.
He married young.
Out of school.
Got a career.
High speed.
High pressure everywhere.
His wife wanted a child.
His father was an addicted and an abuser.
This makes him prone to addiction.
He starts snorting coke when he feels he can’t go on.
Then, after he becomes a junkie, he starts having an affair with ow, a slut from his office who only wants money, sex and party. He starts drinking, snorting coke and having extreme sex with ow while becoming more and more indifferent to his job and his wife.
We know all his thoughts and his misfits during that period.
It’s harsh but it’s very very realistic.
I think this author knew what she did when she described his distorted behavior.
That man was not himself.
It was the drug speaking and acting.
He didn’t want to admit he had a problem and was angry because his wife didn’t accept his ugly ways.
There are several disturbing scenes where he goes partying with other colleagues and all of them using coke and alcohol and their dysfunctional dialogues are really those of people with a big huge problem of addiction.
Sadly there is much of reality here.
People with drug and alcohol addictions loses everything, just everything. Their families, their friends, their jobs and their money. And they change their personality completely.
They are really not themselves any more.
And that is exactly what happens to the hero.
The heroine knows about his addiction but all she can focus is: is he cheating on me???
Really?
When she found out she was pregnant she wasn’t worried because her baby’s father was a junkie but because he was shagging ow???
And there is where I started to lose the book.
His addiction- addictions - are the problem.
The elephant in the living room.
All the rest was a consequence.
His cheating, his cruelty to the heroine, his infatuation with sex and ow, his restlessness.
Typical coke results.
He can’t stay away from coke.
There’s much drama, the heroine has a breakdown and loses her child, and no, I don’t think she was a doormat when she found out her husband was cheating on her and she was shattered and she wanted him back.
It’s perfect natural that even if he broke her heart and hurt her awfully she was still in love with him.
Love doesn’t simply disappear because the person you love betrays you.
It takes time.
And eventually she didn’t want him back.
Sadly the author, instead of making her meet a gorgeous and rich man, wanted to put these two together again.
Of course after he cleaned himself up and realized what a big mistake he made.
But I didn’t love the hea.
She shouldn’t have taken him back.
Another thing I didn’t like.
Too much sex scenes with ow and only a couple with the heroine.
Really?
Thanks but no thanks.
So, I didn’t hate this book because it was more about a junkie ruining his life than a love story, with interesting and very accurate descriptions of how addictions damage a person’s life, but there’s too much stress on his cheating than on addiction itself.

Oh please !! I'm sooooooooo tired of these authors with pathetic excuses that they represent real life in their books!!! Whose real life ?? Them??? To think that way and write that kind of shit can only be! Because in MY real life, women learn from their mistakes, in MY real life, women value themselves! In MY real life women look for a man for a mate who respects them and truly loves them. In MY real life one person isn't responsible for the other's happiness. In MY real life, a woman after being treated like GARBAGE like this seeks help and move on to find another person who values her as she values herself. So stop this kind of MEDIOCRE EXCUSE that romanticizing this kind of trash is acceptable. That romanticize abusive relationships is to have a talented writing. It is not. For this self-proclaiming writer person didn't even strive to be convincing (which she couldn't anyway, so I guess she didn't want to waste her time trying like the readers waste their time reading). So I repeat, if this kind of crap is real for someone then stop wasting time trying to justify the unjustifiable, distorting toxic behaviors for a distorted view of reality or love. I haven't seen any more releases from this author so I really hope she's doing something better because her "books"? For me they are just another waste.

Stay Away...stay far away!!

Stay Away...stay far away!!

This books makes me want to curse everyone in it that breathes. Her husband messed up so bad, that the only way that he can be redeemed is to die. **spoilers- this book will be told in 10 sentences or less**

The author created a situation so vile and did a horrible job at redemption. Actually, the only redemption could be her marrying someone else, sexing him loudly with her ex nearby and having 6 babies.

Please don't read if you can't stomach weak heroines, that get cheated on, talked badly to, mistress taken on vacation she planned, miscarriage with him showing up to the hospital insinuating she did something to herself because he left her. To only end up back with the asshole cause the mistress left, he got fired, and he wanted to kill himself cause he fucked up and didn't understand why. He is "saved" by someone equally as horrible, turns his life around, is in an accident and begs for another chance. Her being the weak girl she is, sniffs, takes him back and happily they live.

Die..he has to die!
I will never read anything by this author again.

This was originally a DNF from years ago. I finished it only because I desperately needed something angsty. Also, by now, I've read countless books with asshole-y heroes and I think I've become desensitized to them all 😂 Needless to say, I knew exactly what I was walking into with this one. And I must say, this guy is still the absolute worst. I didn't change my mind about that--this coming from someone who enjoys cheating books. To top it off, the heroine was way too forgiving. Yes, he did grovel, but as soon as they came face-to-face again after 3 years, she gave in quickly. To be honest, he should have jumped off that cliff as he had contemplated. Still, the angst was great, and as long as you're willing to ignore the glaring editing issues, the writing is good. 2 Stars.

Original Review - 11/17/2017 - 1 Star
DNF. I have never read a hero like this one, nor do I want to. I couldn't even get past 20%.

I love angsty books and bad boy heroes but this book is a whole other category. It made me physically ill to read how the "hero" expresses himself about the heroine. I've read books with heroes who are complete assholes, but somehow you still love them or at the very least you end up warming up to them. They can be redeemed. But in this case, I didn't care to see how. I don't need to keep reading to find out how this one redeems himself because unless he dies and comes back a new man, nothing will convince me. Not after the unforgivable things he says and does to his wife. My reaction to how he feels about the heroine was a gasping WTF??!! It was like a slap in the face. I did not expect that at all. From reading other reviews, things only get worse and he never gets his comeuppance.

I did like the writing. I was really starting to feel all the angst, so much so that I was even willing to overlook the poor editing job. Then the "hero" got in the way and that's where I gave up. It was painful to read. The errors only increased and every word the hero uttered was a stab to the heart.

On another note, what's the deal with this ebook cover? It seems so random.

I love it when authors write books inspired by their marriages/relationships and call it romance. I know I shouldn’t assume but.. nah fuck it, I’m gonna assume that S.P. West writes from her own experiences. She isn’t the only one. I usually do when authors romanticize cheating. It’s hard not too. Especially when this author has written TWO books and BOTH are about cheating men who cheat on the women they supposedly love and the women are weak, pathetic doormats. Just call this book what it is - your memoir.

Need to cleanse my brain/heart after reading this one....I'ave created a new shelf for this "zero". This zero is the one you leave behind and get with the Hero instead h took him back! Zero went way too far in my opinion to come back. I believe in second chances, people changing etc but when husband's thoughts are out for you to "see", he thinks wife is boring, sex no good, she is not exciting, not in love with her, shouldnt have married her etc, cheated on her, lied to her, publicly humiliate her on face book, took skank ow on the trip wife booked to reconnect with him, lied some more, stated sleeping with wife was a chore/tough, felt he was cheating on skank when he slept with his lawfully wedded wife -- and these are just some of the things this zero did/said! oh and she was pregnant when he left and moved in with skank. So many issues with this zero, yes he had an awakening (rolling eyes) of course this is after skank kicked him to the curb.....I dont believe this HEA, he didnt grovel enough or show fully explained why he did what he did, just excuses.....he went too far and too destructive to the h to come back. She should have ran far far away from him -whats gonna happen when the next hot skank shows up? I gave 3* because the writing was very good, book flowed and kept me reading straight to the end.

I found this book after reading Love, Hate and Us, which I liked, but I dont think this one is for me based on reviews. I dont mind authors who delve into real world situations of cheating and whatnot but I think it comes to a point where some subjects aren't romance anymore and this strikes me as that. Based on the prior book I read of this author I feel there is a tendancy to have the hero think all these really cruel thoughts, and wants, and then whiplash you when he goes back on it all with no real exploration of why or realistic redemption arc, just some gratuitous sexual superficial thoughts he has and loses, meant to shock, along with the generic "whore" female character as the prior book had as well. It then comes back to being the heroines fault of course for not forgiving him. It was tolerable in the other book but the hero wasn't quite as bad as this guy in this book sounds.

Also I just dont find a lot of realism in women who cant move on and date other men. Authors love to throw around they write true to life but ONLY when it comes to the hero, when it comes to the heroine well of course no one can measure up, cant have sex, cant move on blah blah blah. Not interested in those stories anymore, I can't believe female authors choose 90% of the time to write doormat weak heroines that just keep reinforcing problematic themes in romance books rather than trying to break the mold.

*** Book Q & A***

* How did the book make you feel?: Honestly I wasn’t feeling the love in this book. I wasn’t rooting for the MC’s to reconcile.

* How do you feel about how the story was told?: I thought the plot and pacing were good. I enjoy cheating stories because I appreciate the challenge the author accepts when trying to redeem who cheated. There were some typos. It seemed the majority of the book covered the cheating aspect and demise of the relationship. The reconciliation seemed very abrupt to me. A horrific accident was the catalyst and I didn’t feel that Alex deserved Summer’s bedside care. I had whiplash.

* What did you think about the main characters?: Alex was selfish and despicable. I never could relate to his perspective or like him. I felt like he only wanted his spouse back because he was rejected by the evil OW. I liked Summer at first but her obliviousness and denial got old. She acted so desperate toward the end. I honestly couldn’t believe she took him back at the end.

* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: I enjoyed the cruelty of the H and the OTT OW.

* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: cheating, addiction, redemption

* What did you think about the ending?: It was abrupt because most of the book was about the cheating of Alex and the OW. He was so bad— carrying on for months, going on vacation with OW that Summer booked and paid for, publicly humiliating Summer, saying Summer was boring in the sack, etc.—and even that he didn’t love her shouldn’t have married her! Nothing he did afterward redeemed Alex for me because, yes he got clean, but only because he hit rock bottom after OW dumped him. If OW hadn’t turned out to be evil, they probably would’ve stayed together!

* What is your impression of the author?: I like this author’s writing style.

Possible Triggers and Safety: cheating, drug addiction, ectopic pregnancy

What a truly horrible book. I can not even wrap my brain around this. After I started to read this book, I was like what the heck, this H (ZERO) is hands down the worst piece of crap I have ever read about. I could not finish it. I did go to the end to see how it ends, only to see she took his sorry ass back.... hence me not finishing it. WHY in HOLY HELL would she take him back?? I tell you why NO FREAKING BACK BONE... nope he took it when he walk out the door with her pride and everything else when he was shacking up with the skank of an OW. Lord this book would have been so much better if she had found another H and found her HEA and the loser zero got to see all that he lost! NOW that would have been a 5 star book to me!! AVOID the book is my recommendation.

Never would I forgive him. A full blown affair with the office slut, Rachel, and he says he loves her and is more attracted to her than his wife, Summer, who tries everything To make it work. She books a vacation for them and pays for it and he takes his whore with him instead and tells Summer he has a conference. Wow. He tells Summer she doesn't get him hard and the other woman does. He tells her he never loved her in that way. He also gets caught with the whore by Summer as she goes to tell him about her pregnancy, which she loses by the way and falls to depression.
Karma slaps his bitch ass when the OW cheats on him and THEN he realizes he made a mistake. After he made it public on facebook that he loved the slut and was in a relationship with her DURING his marriage, which Summer of course sees online, along with pics of the vacation. Months, at least 6 months of a full blown affair where he does coke aNd gets drunk and parties with this woman that 'gets him'. He has sex with her at work and tells us in detail how she loves anal and how he plays with her parts. Also, she's apparently good at oral. Okay, well, he got what he wanted. Anyway he gives Summer divorce papers, Summer is trying to hold it together. He is now regretting everything and spiraling with drugs and alcohol. He's alone, like he left Summer. He actually told Summer that the OW was the love of his life. We get all his thoughts on how amazing the skank is and how much better she is than his wife.
Okay, how do you get past this you ask?
YOU FUCKING DON'T!
He's a piece of shit! I don't care that he cleaned up. He was horrible to Summer who only loved him. She was so broken, I just died for her. Then he gets In an accident 3 years later and she flies in to see the others in the accident and reluctantly him as well, when his mom guilts her into in gently.
He, of course is sorry, because the woman he chose over his loving wife and marriage and home and future, left him when he lost his job and cheated on his with another guy FROM WORK! ( they all work together, not Summer, she works at a restaurant or bakery or something). He's sober now and works on cars. Now HE is begging and she's like NO! But over time she softens and he makes these gestures and she gets back with him and goes to therapy. Honestly, even though there is a HEA I feel like it should have NEVER happened. I was hoping for a new guy to treat her like a queen. What that asshole did was unforgivable! Seriously, you don't get past that, ever! He was open with his cheating and didn't regret it until the OW left him. He told the slut he loved her on FB and all their friends saw it BEFORE he left Summer. Then he posts all these pics of the whore and him on a beach vacation meant for his wife. Then he saw what he lost. I don't care about drugs. He wasn't always high, no excuses. I hate him and I hate that she took him back.

Anyway, they are multiple possible spinoffs so I think there will be more of the series. Possibly? Don't know. This is just not for those who don't like cheating or heros that don't ugly cry grovel and beg beg beg for forgiveness. She does put it all out there, everything she felt and what he did, but she caves in the end. He had his chance and burned the bridge, blew it up with dynamite and a meteor landed on it. He's done, you just can't come back from that. He wasn't remorseful until he got left. Then he sees the light. Well, to flippin bad asshat. Too late, months of cheating and thinking your wife wasn't good enough. Now you have what you wanted. Congrats

Anyway, that's my 2 dollars, it's my very honest opinion about the characters. I hated him, I would never trust Alex again.
It takes a lot to write a book and believe it or not, I like the general idea of the book but it just went so deep into his betrayal that it was impossible to dig him out of the hole for me. This was gut wrenching and will stay with you.

I do enjoy a good book about the challenges of marriage, no one or marriage is perfect and that is why I like to see after all the trials and tribulations, the couple's love for each other wins out in the end. Unfortunately this book did not do it for me......

I would have given a higher rating if the ending didn't play out like it did. He was so cruel to her, he turned his back on her several times, the fact the the mistress left him not the other way around and she took him back so easily.

One of the most painful books I have read. It was the first time when I read a book with descriptive scenes between H and OW, told from H's POV. The guy was a piece of s*******. What he thought of his wife, of their marriage. He lost himself in drugs and parties and he forgot what matters the most. He even felt guilty for cheating the OW with the wife.

"I had you for your best years, I loved you for them. I hope that you get your head out of that big ass of yours and wake up to what you lost; when you do, learn to forgive yourself"

The book is amazingly written with a lot of inner dialogue and facts that will break your heart.
What he did was unforgivable and I do not know how she found the power to forgive him. It felt like it was not a lot of groveling on his part, and it felt like he was miserable after their divorce because the OW left him, not the other way around. He had some moments before the divorce when he asked himself questions about his wife, about his life, but not once he tried to win her back. He just kept saying he was sorry but he was still with OW.

It was a beautiful story even though it made me cry like a stupid baby :))

He was a cheating basta*d and he deserved to get disabled from that accident. Instead noo, what he gets is he gets wounded, coma and then everyone loves him, his ex-wife, whom he cheated on, comes back to him, the good guy Beck (his best friend) dies in that accident.

Like seriously?

Ok, so I knew from the get go before reading this that I would rate it harshly but I still went on to torture myself.

It had a good premise but his behaviour while he was cheating and how he described having sex with the ow and then his awful disgusting thoughts just made it all very disgusting. I’m sure men who cheat behave that way. But his absolutely not loving his wife, lying, going on a vacation with his skank of an ow, a vacation that his wife had planned and paid for, he takes his skank and tells his wife that he is going on a conference. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤬
Then all those insults he threw his wife’s way. Love is supposed to be unconditional and forever. It doesn’t just go away and come back according to your mood.

I don’t think any woman can forgive such trauma. Once a cheater may change but once trust is lost, its hard to gain it back. Its like when a glass breaks, you can’t glue it back into the perfect piece it once was.

The story I would have loved would have been—
The best karma would have been the H getting disabled and then not being able to ever have sex again in his life. His ex- wife then should have shown in his face how happy she was with her new hunk of a husband with a few kids and she could have come with her entire family to help him or you know, make him feel a bit happy because he ultimately had no one.

But nooo, thats not what happens, he gets physiotherapy and gets better and then everyone loves him and his wife says yes to marry him.
2⭐️ for his wife for suffering through such trauma and still going back to him once he has an accident. Why 2 ⭐️? Because I respected her attitude and her decision, I just wish the outcome was different. 🤷🏻‍♀️The heroine wasn’t weak, no, that wasn’t the case, she left him and she didn’t fall at his feet when he wanted her back. But.... ultimately she still had a soft spot for him and when he had his accident and his behaviour had changed, he had matured so well......he got her back.

So the H was seriously immature, his reason for cheating? He wanted to party, he wanted to drink and do drugs, he wanted to have fun. While his wife wanted a baby, his wife liked spending time at home, and his ultimate man baby excuse? His wife didn’t show that she was proud of him when he did some good work. He assumed his wife only wanted a baby and that she kept whining about it. Well man, talk it out before you cheat! He didn’t even try to save his marriage. All he wanted was some other woman’s pussy!

And the ultimate deal breaker? He said the ow was the “love of his life” and if the ow had not cheated on him and if he hadn’t realised that, the question is would he have wanted to go back to his wife then???? This story should have shown him being miserable with the ow and ultimately realising what he had with his wife was pure and hot and amazing. The author shouldn’t have made the ow a cheated snd ultimately leaving his ass.

Is life a game? Why do men cheat? Why do some women cheat?

Where are those uber confident possessive alpha “caveman“ men who love their one woman and only that one woman (aka that one wife) and never even think of cheating or even looking at another woman? Where are those men?

*rant over*

If you don't like cheating in books this is NOT for you. It's written well, the author makes you HATE the H. I kept waiting for something that would show how truly remorseful he was for doing all this to the h but it never comes. There's no grand gesture or anything IMHO that redeems the H. In the end I was left feeling like he conned the h into another chance that wasn't deserved...just falls flat for me.

Update**
I’ve finished. Wow. That was one beautiful yet tear jerker of a book. I cried throughout! This is a book that’s one hundred percent about infidelity. The hero is the lowest scum to ever walk the planet—and while I loved everything about the story...I can’t forgive him. That’s something I wouldn’t be able to go back from. Cheating and sex is one thing but falling in love with another woman? That’s a hard limit for me.

I know readers will not (and already don’t) like books that involve cheating. I like them because I’ve been cheated on and this book (and others) reminds me that I survived it, even when I didn’t think I would.

Some of the things Alex did and said made me very uncomfortable. But I see why he did what he did. To me, it seemed like he loved the idea of Rachel—and the forbidden. Being with someone who wasn’t his wife, ultimately gave him a high. I don’t condone it but I can see his point of view. I always say I love the assholes in romance but Alex takes it to a whole new level!

Bravo to the author for making me feel so much.

I’ve read all the reviews and have seen what a terrible “book” this is... but damn it, this is definitely one I’m gonna love. Why do I like books with cheating!? And a*hole heroes?

I can't fairly rate this book in my opinion cause I did finish it which I questioned why several times over but, I just don't know how I feel about it other than disgust at Alex the hero. I have zero triggers when it comes to storylines so I already knew going into this that the infidelity wouldn't be a issue for me. With that being said I don't see how this book is classified as a romance, there's nothing at ALL romantic about it. I've read books with cheating heroes who I still liked at the end. Alex however I wanted to put in a meat grinder right along with his wife Summer!!

Alex was so disgusting and so horribly mean to his wife but, she still wanted him back. Even made blatant excuses to try to avoid the obvious that this fucker was cheating on her!!!! Time and time again she was his doormat and she just took this arrogant asshole back without much effort on his part.

I thought that his cheating would be a drug fueled thing which I could sympathize and overlook but, it wasn't. There wasn't anything drug induced about his cheating, he was just a asshole who wanted a change and thought the grass was greener but quickly learned the saying how you find them is how you lose them.

I truly believed if his mistress didn't leave him when he lost his job he'd still be with her!! I would of much preferred a ending where he got eaten by coyotes watching his ex wife get married to the real love of her life!!!
