What could be more magical than a black tie Christmas party where those attending will socialize and rub elbows with the most prominent lawyers and judges in the state? Kay is enjoying the food, the wine, the conversation—and a dance with Judge Beck to the music of an elegant string quartet.
But when she finds a dead body in an upstairs bathroom, Kay’s fairytale evening hits a sour note. Is the murderer a jilted lover? A rival for a lucrative position? A disgruntled client? With the dead man’s ghost demanding justice, Kay races against time to find the killer before the police arrest the wrong person.
I’ve enjoyed following the family and adventures, the love and support. It’s positive and it just shows you can have an amazing fun story without the sex scenes and harsh language. I have recommended your books to several of my colleagues.
A Midnight Clear (Locust Point Mystery Book 9)— Libby Howard/Narrator: Margaret Storm (17 chapters) April 15, 2022
The judge has asked Kay to be his +1 for a black-tie event where he is putting out feelers for a promotion. When Kay can’t wait to use the bathroom and the line is taking forever, a guest tells her to go upstairs… where she stumbles over a very recently murdered victim.
Can Kay figure it out whodunit before another person winds up dead?
I like this series because the characters continue to grow in a natural way. It does seem to move a little fast considering that it has been just about a year, but both characters are mature and open-minded. And since they do live together, that process is sped up. However, there are never any naughty bits in cozies, so all is good.
Read all 9 books within a couple of weeks buying the next as I finished the last. Loved them all. The ghosts were fun too, maybe they will become more "visible" in future entries. All characters were endearing and real. The main character tells the tale, which makes the story more visual, almost as if you the onlooker were participating in the events as the pages were read. It is rare for me to find a book that grabs so tightly and doesn't let go until the last word is read. Thank you for your talent and for sharing. It was awesome. Please hurry, I loved all your "family" members and anticipate new additions to the porch gatherings. Maybe the ghosts will be revealed to the household members? That will be fun! Await on pins and needles for #10!
It's the Christmas season, Kay and the Judge are attending the Christmas party he invited her to. Murder is never far from Kay and she finds the body of a prominent Judge in the washroom.
Of course, the ghost of the deceased asks her to ensure justice is done, so she embarks on another hunt to find a murderer, making new friends along the way.
I love this series, so easy to read, a combination of murder, friendship, romance and ghosts! Definitely read in order of publication as the back story, the one with Kay's friends, and her housemates, the Judge and his 2 children, develops as the books go on.
I have really enjoyed this series. It has been fun watching the characters evolve throughout and relationships develop. The mysteries have enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and the relationships between all the characters give some depth. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
Kay Careers and Judge Back make a great pair of heroes. The surrounding cast of characters are great. For anyone starting over in life Kay is a fabulous female lead in a fun series of mysteries.
I am really enjoying these little murder mysteries. They are nice, wholesome fun. It’s interesting watching the relationships develop. These stories are pretty quick reads but hold your attention and keep you guessing.
What a fine series this is, and A Midnight Clear continues the excellence. Love the mystery and the relationship among key characters is evolving beautifully. Kay is one of my favorite characters in a cosy series.
I love this series and Margaret Strom narrates the story with the characters keeping my interest in everyone in the story. I like how everyone progresses in this story with a murder for Kay and friends to solve during Christmas.
I've enjoyed this series of books because they are lighthearted comedies with a great story. The characters are interesting and the plots always keep you guessing.
this is one of the better series I liked, I hope they all keep showing up in the books to come and everyone ends up in the same family. Keeps you wanting more stories so I hope the writer keeps them coming. there were a few typos and mistakes in words but that's the proof reader's mistakes.
Christmas brings many gifts but murder shouldn't be one of them,
Another great read. The plot was brilliant until the end, which seemed to be somewhat a non event. Greed and money lead to murder with Christmas as no obstacle to it. Loved revisiting the characters and seeing how their lives are getting more and more intertwined. Plus the romance is played out in such a low key, reserved manner that it takes on a much sweeter poignant flavour then if it had been a head on event. The big 'do' has come up. The dress fits and she looks scrumptious. An evening to remember but possibly for the wrong reasons - a dead body found in an upstairs cloakroom. With all the suspects part of the legal profession how easy will it be to find the killer. Throw in a ghost, an old case, money and a big mouthed female as well as Christmas shopping and new friends. Will they get to the killer before the big day? What is happening between her and her judge?
Oh my Libby can write. Her characters are real and fun. I love Kay and totally relate.to being over 60. These are the best family oriented crime sleuth novels I have read in a long time. I totally recommend starting with the first one and reading all none. Eagerly waiting for number 10.
I just finished reading the whole series and can’t wait for the next one to come out. The characters are so real that I expect to meet Kay at the local market. I laughed and cried and enjoyed every word of these books. Can you imagine yourself on the porch for the Friday happy hour? Or chasing Taco ?
I love these books, the characters and storylines are so good that I want to read without stopping. Definitely worth reading and getting to know the characters and read the series.
Kay and the Judge? The future is looking good for those two. I liked the ghosts interaction with Kay. Love Kay's character. Very friendly, makes you trust her and to be her friend.
A little different from the series. I feared the ending because I want the Judge and his family to stay with Kay in the Victorian. I loved the ending though.
