After accepting life's painful detour, Nashya Jordan finds comfort in her unlikely new path. Now a TV personality, her primary focus is to make "Girlfriends Talking Sports" the number one show on ESPN. Her plans are interrupted when NBA Rookie, Sebastian Powers enters her life.
Growing up in London, Sebastian Powers' only ambition was to become the greatest basketball player of all time. When his arrogance becomes a roadblock to that goal, he meets his match in Nashya Jordan.
What happens when two stubborn souls are forced to face their pasts together?
I like to eat Peanut M&M’s mixed with movie popcorn and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my kryptonite. I enjoy writing stories about flawed women who find their place in the world after overcoming obstacles. I believe strongly that books have the power to heal as much as they entertain.
When I’m not writing, you can find me buried in a book, watching a basketball game, or spending time with my family.
I legit could not put this book down! I absolutely loved Sebastian!!! He and Nas went through it, for sure! But Bash never wavered—he knew that Nas was it for him! Bash was a NBA rookie with all kinds of temptation and drama surrounding him. Nas worked for ESPN and I swear she came up with every reason to keep their relationship on the low. Even though Bash was so young; he was very mature! I found his character to be very likable. We see so many stories about athletes but Bash’s wasn’t necessarily like what we see on TV. A few times I thought Bash would throw in the towel but he fought for Nas and for their relationship. Literally this book made me cry, real tears!! I felt so bad for Nas—like I just want to give her a hug. She was miserable and was trying to fight for her place in the workplace. I loved this!! The characters were so lovable and the flow was great! I just ugh, so good!!! ❤️😩
I enjoyed Bash and Nas' story. This is more so a young romance given their ages, but they acted very mature, especially Sebastian! He was a breath of fresh air on and off the court. Dude was a dream come true...well, most of the time. Sebastian and Nashaya had good chemistry and I liked how their relationship unfolded given the circumstances they faced as a new couple. The minor characters were plentiful, but easy to follow.
The book was concluded with all questions you may have had, being answered. From this, I gather this is a stand-alone. I think I was looking for a bit more drama in the plot but overall, the story kept me entertained.
I can't believe I forgot to review this book. I really enjoyed it. It's romantic with a little bit of drama, but not too much. Reagan was a b!tch, and Adrianna was a good friend. The kind every woman needs - to keep you from letting your emotions get you into trouble. One of the sweetest moments was when Sebastian said, "Nas makes me happy, and I'm not ready to let her go just to see what else is out there." He's young but smart.
I'm not a big sports romance fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Danesha Little became one of my new favorite authors after I read Unapologetically Me early spring of this year. Over the next few months, my love for her writing deepened with A Silenced Gift. But when I read the summary for her recent release, Rookie Mistakes, I was ecstatic. I grabbed it as soon as it went live.
Nashya Jordan has trust issues and rightfully so. She suffered severely from an incident in college where the people who were supposed to protect her let her down. When her dreams of playing in the WNBA were destroyed, Nashya was referred for a sports analyst position— reporting on the sport that she loves so dearly. Between having a co-worker, continually trying to get her removed from the show to her ex continuously popping up in her life, she is suspicious of who she should trust. She is reluctant to pursue any romantic relationships.
Sabastian Powers is the top draft pick and has a lot to prove. Being drafted to the youngest NBA team in the league, he wanted to make a name for himself. He didn’t like the media until he met Nashya. After a media tour to help establish his reputation, things seem to be going pretty well with Sabastian. That is until an FBI probe into colleges that paid money to their athletes. Sabastian is adamant about not explaining himself to anyone in regards to the investigation wanting to protect those he loves.
These two stubborn individuals were both headstrong. They didn’t back down at all. Although he was getting frustrated with Nashya’s determination to remain secretive about their relationship, it appeared the more he seemed to crave her. I love the fact that Sabastian was relentless when it came to his pursuit of Nashya.
I appreciated the way the book looked at physical abuse. It showed how it can still hunt someone who is no longer involved in it, but the after-effects can remain with you years later. Even when you stand up for yourself and try to tell your truth, things are swept under the rug due to perception. Little showed how male athletes are placed higher on the totem pole; then, their female counterparts, such as being protected against negative allegations at the expense of the accuser. There is so much you can unpack here: how being a woman in a man’s industry has so many double standards associated with it. Women in the industry must stick together and help each other attain their goals.
I’m sure it is apparent that I thought Rookie Mistakes is a fantastic book. Make sure you read D. Little’s catalog. You will not be disappointed.
Meet Bash and Nas. Basketball is their common denominator. Bash is in his rookie year in the NBA and Nas is in year two as a sports journalist. Their initial meeting is not great, but their second meeting is a litte better. Will they put aside their differences and allow their common denominator to win?
Rookie Mistakes focuses on two topics that takes place daily. Some readers emotions may need to be addressed or “checked” as they read this book. Simple read, with a dose of emotions. Bash and Nas are made for one another.
Loved the plot and characters but I didn't feel like I got to know them. Skin color descriptions were inconsistent. They could have just been left out. There were quite a few run-on sentences and incomplete sentences. Some paragraphs were very elementary in how they were worded. The ending felt rushed. It would have been great to explore PTSD and have her reveal the scandal from the first incident. Overall, I liked it but it read like the first draft, not the final.
I was very conflicted while reading this book because some things were confusing to say the least. Nashya, a well rounded young lady had a huge tragedy happened to her which delayed or diverted the future that she was pursuing and landed her in a different direction. Strong, independent yet vulnerable she tended to be a little bit gullible, and childish at times. Sebastian, young yet mature was not your typical "Rookie". Loyal, straightforward, protector, humble and goal achiever, he truly does not portrayed his age. This story started it out good, but the immaturity or the age gapped was felt so many times even though it was just an underlining issue; 1) Lanza, 2) the report, 3) the reasoning for the report and all. On one hand Sebastian is saying he doesn't care what people think of him, yet he was getting mad that all this was affecting everything, specially his old school....you can't have it both ways, hence the imaturity. Then you have Nashya not wanting to go public but the explanation to me was pretty lame and not at all believable. So overall, even though I liked this story very much and it was a step up to Fatima and Jericho, I still think it needs work and improvement because at one point it felt as if the author was trying to just think of something, add it to the plot and then see what happens (Linza) because one thing I love with this author is her no cheating man when they are in a relationship; and I mean the full cheating. There may have a kiss or caresses somewhere but nothing beyond that, and that is why this author will keep me reading her stories even if I can't relate to them.
A rookie at basketball and a rookie tv personality trying to engage in a meaningful relationship while all around them for one reason or the other, naysayers and her demented ex tried to tear them apart. Actually Nashya's ex tried to kill her. Its not stated in the story but I wonder like Nashya how many other women he had harmed and got away with it? Gotta love Sebastian though! He was a man of integrity, compassion, had a relative good head on his shoulders for one so young and dedicated to his relationship with Nashya! As for the women on the talk show with the exception of Adrianna, we as women must stop trying to sabotage each other and use our differences to support and strengthen one another!!!! As regards the women hanging around celebrities, ballers and the like, get some self respect about yourself even if that means getting an honest job and allowing real love to come into your lives instead of being used like toilet paper for every man you think will fall victim to what you give up so loosely! Ladies surely you know you are worth more and must carry yourselves in a manner to command the right treatment from men and women! For men like the would be murderer in this story, please get some help for your hurt so as not to continue to hurt others! That saying that hurt people, hurt people seems to be true! Overall, I enjoyed Sebastian and Nashya's story very much!!!!!!!
When Sebastian Powers set his sights on Nashya Jordan, she was all he wanted and he wouldn't stop until she became his. Nashya was an Sports anchor on ESPN and Sebastian Powers was the last person she wanted in her life. When Sebastian finally convinced Nashya to come to a game, he thought he had a chance, but she still didn't want him. The more Sebastian tried the more Nashya put her guard down and that was the start of Nas and Power. When Sebastian does the unthinkable, Nas calls it quits, but Sebastian don't give up. WhennNas past comes back in a terrible way, Sebastian is there for her. OMG, this story was soooooo damn good. Sebastian and Nas were so cute together. They both gave the other what they needed. Everything about them as a couple was great. I loved the chemistry and intimacy between them and wanted more. That scene with Nas ex was so heartbreaking to me, but when Nas finally realized she would be ok, I sighed and felt all of what she was feeling. I swear when I read a Danesha Little book, I get my entire life together by time the book is finish. I have a great laugh, a great cry and a aha moment. An excellent read!!!
It was a good storyline! However; I hate how Nashaya couldn’t see past how cute and fine Sebastian was and took him back. He was dead wrong for what he did and he didn’t grovel enough in my opinion. How could she take him back so soon and just be there for him after she saw the same behaviors in him that she saw in her ex. Just sick of the females that give these men a pass because of physical attributes. Also, I just felt like he was nonchalant and dismissive of her feelings regarding the secret and the kiss. The book also made him seem so weak around women at parties and events. He kept asking how he was suppose to resist so much temptation? Or what about the way he behaved when Nash wasn’t waiting in his room after his games. They were too young for marriage for sure. Regan did not get her karma in my opinion and I felt she got away with treating Nash like crap! So Jerome got arrested and that’s it?!? He couldn’t have gotten beaten within an inch of his life the way he did Nash? 3 stars because I needed a book to hold my attention for a few days and this one did that for me.
Another great read from Ms. Little, I became a fan of the long journey of the love story of Fatima and Jericho. Nas and Sebastian didn't go through as much but the still had their bumps along their journey.
I was glad to see Nas finally obtain a career close to basketball which was her first love. I love how Sebastian accomplished one of her dreams by getting her to be an honorary player for the WNBA team Sparks. It was just for a one day contract but he even got her a personalized jersey made.
Overall, this was another great read. I'm an avid reader so I'll be looking forward to your next novel.
Love the background for the story.As.a fan of basketball,I throughly enjoyed the storyline, even the NCAA hypocrisy, the all female cast at ESPN! Didn’t like the fact that Bash was soooo young, the age difference was kind of a turn off.I thought Nashua could have been 21 to Bash’s 20. Wish there was more of a explanation to Jerome. This is the 2nd book that I have read by Ms.Little where the ex has inflicted so much harm on a female and not much was explained. Overall another great read. Will appeal to anyone that enjoys reading about successful minorities.
Nashya & Sebastian's story was pretty good. Nashya's dream was taken from her but I like how she found the courage to move on to a coaching position. Sebastian knew what he wanted and I liked his persistence to build with Nashya. Adrienne was a good friend. Reagan was a hater and needed to be slapped down! Jerome was crazy and I wish Nas would've gotten a restraining order and some counseling for the trauma. Overall, I liked the story.

While Nas and Bash's love story was the central focus, this book also brought attention to the often mishandled and misinterpreted actions behind the scenes of the NCAA and the NBA...and the fallout and consequences of said behaviors. Danesha Little has quickly become one of my favorite authors. And this is yet another emotional, heart wrenching journey that she took me on from start to finish.
Nashya has been through so much & it’s unfortunate what happened to her in college, Jerome was completely unhigned. But she persevered and landed an amazing opportunity. Honestly, Reagan was so out of line for absolutely no reason. I really liked Sebastian, but when it came to Linza, he was dead wrong and I wanted my girl to hold out longer! But love wins and I’m glad they were able to have their own happy ending.
The characters were a lil'young from my normal reads. Or at least the age more during the story. Either way, this was a good story. The plot was clearly defined, but not my taste. It would have been nice to know the results of the ESPN changes. It felt like the low hanging fruit was picked....
All Im gonna say is READ. You will love it just like I did.😊
I have put my sister on to all of Daneshe's books and she loves them just as much as I do. I found her on Wattpad and when I found out that she was releasing paper backs and they were on Amazon I was happy and proud of her. Keep it Queen you are truly an amazing writer.
Sebastian might be young but very mature for his age … he saw, he wanted and conquered. Except for that weak moment with Linza, young crush or not … he learned his lesson. And what he did for his family… wow…!!! As for Nashya, that girl went through so much… i cried! Anyway, a very nice read
This was really good! I had a hard time putting it down! Sebastian & Nashya are such an empowering couple, and I love just how much Nashya was true to herself. Sebastian really was an absolute ideal of a man, and I hope that everyone gets to find their Sebastian!!
Once again, I love your work! I am a new fan and I've thoroughly enjoyed all of your books. Keep up the good work and I look forward to read your next book!!
This was a really good book, I enjoyed Sebastian and Nashua story, how it told the good and the bad about athletes and the struggles they face in relationships.
You really did it with this one girlfriend! Really good story, with lots of hot buttons. Women's equality in sports, domestic abuse accepting bribes to name a few. Sebastian was quite put together for someone so young. However, with youth come the mistakes that can potentially ruin relationships and careers. He saw something special in Nashya, and wanted to explore that, despite all the peer pressure to "live" in the road. Nashua felt the instant attraction up in meeting Sebastian, but was wary due to his age, and the industry the are in. I loved them together! They just "fit". I felt for Nashya, and the mess with Jerome. Who knew he was so unstable? Wow! You have a new fan Miss Lady! Keep up the great work, and looking forward to your next one. 👍👍
Danesha Little is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Her characters are rich and have depth and relatability. I fell in love instantly with Nashya. Sebastian charms his way into your heart, even with his stubbornness. Their connection was kismet and no matter what comes their way, they navigate it using the strength of their love for each other and their love of the game as an escape. I need more from these characters because there is so much more story to be told for them and the supporting characters.
