Book 1: The Bonding
Trysten has a special bond with the dragons of Aerona. But will that bond be enough to save the dragons and the village when her father is crippled and his dragon mortally wounded?
All her life, Trysten has wished to follow in her father's footsteps and lead the dragons of Aerona into battle, but the title of Dragoneer has always gone to a male heir since the beginning of history. As war approaches with the changing of the season, Trysten must prove to her father, the village and the other dragon riders that she is an able leader and a fierce warrior of legendary capabilities.
Book 2: The Prince
Trysten's first fighting season as Dragoneer of the Aerona weyr proves to be dangerous as it brings threats from the east as well as the west.
While preparing for additional attacks from the Western kingdom, Trysten must deal with a prince from the King's court determined to take her title. Sent to enforce his father's rule that Trysten step aside as Dragoneer, the prince also digs into the mysteries surrounding the Second Hordesmen and comes close to discovering the secret of Trysten's heritage. But when Trysten and the prince discover a new threat in the mountains of the west, one that threatens Aerona and the entire kingdom, Trysten must be the Dragoneer she was born to be and prove to the prince that she is the rightful heir to the title once held by her father.
Book 3: Aerona Stands
Trysten's heroism and dragon riding skills may have won over the people of Aerona, but her future as Dragoneer remains uncertain.
A threat unlike any the village has ever faced is on the move. Aerona lies in the path of destruction. To save those she loves, Trysten must set aside her distrust of Prince Aymon and join with him to stop a force that would destroy the entire kingdom.
Victory will require more than a drawn sword, a tight bowstring, and a dragon full of fire. To win the battle, Trysten must accept her true nature and risk becoming the very thing Prince Aymon fears. Once again she will redefine what it means to be the Dragoneer.
I could scarcely put this book down. It was refreshing not to have a love interest bog down the story except for the love between the Dragon and its rider. Sometimes, I just want to read a good book without all the baggage of two lovers. Excellent book and flawless editing. It was a relief not to have to try to figure out what the writer was trying to convey due to poor spelling and grammar errors.
The writing lacks sparkle, a bit turgid. None of the secondary characters are developed. Slow slow slow plotting. Very little descriptive writing, sense of place, or time of year. The story is slight and should not have been stretched beyond one volume by these authors.
These first 3 books of this series is a Great Story & a Great Read! I couldn't put it down once I started the first page of book 1! I completely enjoyed the read & I am sure that I will enjoy the next book in this series! This Series Is Worth Your Time To Read & Worth The Purchase Price!
Overall I really liked the characters and the world. It's very intriguing. I'd have rated it higher if I hadn't felt like each book intentionally ends on a hook, making the endings unsatisfying for me. They aren't cliffhangers, but they're too open.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I borrowed this box set from Prime Reading, but I was excited to discover that it kept my attention and kept me reading, long after I should have gone to sleep. There is enough excitement, surprises, self discovery, battle, coming of age... You get the picture. These three books are packed with the above.
However, despite all of that, my favourite theme in the books is Trystan's changing relationship with her father as she goes from his little girl, to defiantly holding his former position in their village - which he never wanted for her because of the danger - to seeking his advice from his own years as dragoneer, and finally to realizing that she can still be his child while also being his equal as an adult. I related so much to this theme because of my own relationship with my father, who I lost way too soon in 2013.
This first box set in the series just makes me want to read more and more of the books, and I can't wait until I am able to get my hands on them!
Not in the demographics but, I enjoyed it very much
My biggest complaint is the naming of the main character and her second. So, the elephant in the room... I am an old man. The first three stories were enjoyable. Oh! My complaint with the character names, 'Trysten' and 'Paege'. To me Trysten is a male name and Paege is female. I don't say this to disparage the characters. I'm not complaining about the female protagonist being in a "man's" role. It's just that when the text says "he" the name "Trysten" would pop into my mind and "she" resulted in "Paege". Oh yeah, I know a Tristan and a Paige both of whom fit my thought patterns. Hence my prejudice.
One thing I can't stand in characters/heroes/heroines is the continually self-doubting one. Not a problem here. Trysten never did that. She was never overconfident and did have to overcome a sexual bias.
The Dragoneer is a collection of the first three books in this series. I read the first book in the series some time ago, but found this volume and decided to continue reading, so it turned out to be a quick read, since a third of the book was already done. :) In any case, The story was a decent one. Not as good as some dragon stories, but I mean, dragons, that alone makes it worth reading. I'll probably read more in this series, but it will be as I run across them, not going to go hunt them down, because while the story is ok, it's not my favorite dragon series, so it won't matter if it sits on the back burner for a while.
An intriguing collection that not only shows the uniqueness of their bond , but their since of duty to protect the people around them. The dragons place themselves in mortal danger to follow orders of their without question. By It has a sense of mystery, as to why the attacks from other lands have increased considerably and how to bring about to an answer to to peace. Very well written and you never know what's going to happen next .
Very engaging tale of dragons and those who bond with them. We have a forbidden female heroine, both outspoken and stubborn, but gifted beyond measure in her control of the dragons. Very well told, full of excitement, intrigue, adventure and promising much more in the books to come. I read books 1 through 3. I hope to get additional books when I can afford them.
Sometimes you read so many books in a certain genre that you begin to predict so much of what you read way before you should. Not because it is badly written but because it happened so many times before . This book was not predictable . It kept me up reading way too late. And now it will continue because after reading this trilogy I can’t wait to read the next book in the series even though it is almost 2 am here I go.
This trilogy should have been one book. There was no pause between books. The third installment had what I would call an ending with an incentive to read more if only to find out what she doesn't remember. I did find the story very exciting to read. I love dragons and stories about dragons. I received this trilogy free but will be getting the next book in the series because I enjoyed reading this story enough to want to know more.
I was certainly floored by the creativity of the writers and the story they have told in this series . The characters are unique and flawlessly crafted. They are my new friends, as I feel like I know them so well. Untold challenges and struggles to overcome, and personal triumphs and losses to heal from. The books tell of hard choices and great personal growth. Thoroughly enjoyable!!!
I was absolutely enthralled with this story! IF you are looking for a story of dragons where they aren't shifters, there's no personal "drama" and there is an absolutely fantastic relationship story. CANNOT wait to get to the rest of the series! Thank you for your time, talent and THE STORIES!
The best Dragon book I have read a long long time. Great characters and story line. The action is continuous and believable. Everyone from10 to 80 will enjoy these books, (I'm 79 myself). The kind of books I wish I could write. Well worth the time to read. Enjoy these books now!
This book has interesting and believable main characters fighting evil in a well-described alternate world. The interactions between humans and dragons are particularly noteworthy as well as the struggle for recognition by a woman in a career dominated by men.
I stayed up late so many nights to finish this wonderful foray into a new world that I fell in love with. Strong characters beckoned me to keep reading to find out where the story would go next. This is unparalleled fantasy writing.
Good story, wonderful premise. Protagonist is a bit too headstrong, does not grow within herself as much as I’d like to see. The way Trysten deals with her ally does not show an increase in maturity.
This story is so exciting. I love the whole bonding with a dragon thing. I also love that things get shaken up more than a little. I can't wait to get the next book in this series.
Enjoyable read. A woman moving into a leadership role as dragon leader in a time of war. A culture in flux. Integrity and a caring for local values over power, wealth, position emphasized.
The story kept my interest from start to finish. the plot was simple and didn't change back and forth. Relax, clear your mind and get away in a fantasy world
I chose these readings as I like to drift into a fantasy world where adventure, chivalry, and the battle emulates the heroine to be of legends. The hint of a blossoming romance and continued adventure will keep me in pursuit of the ongoing written story.
Loved the book. Lost a lot of sleep reading it. Conflict between Tristan and the prince continued through the story. I will need to check out the remaining books to see what happens next.
Does my shoulder ache in sympathy for the wounded? Well, I suppose it wouldn’t be a good dragon story without people getting hurt or killed. Lots of adventure in these three books. I would not mind reading them again.
I very much enjoyed reading these books. I think I would have liked them to have the ability to communicate with the dragons. I am disappointed that I will have to buy more books to find out what happened to them. It shows how much I liked the stories as I felt for the characters.
I had a lot of fun reading these first three books. The collaboration works well and provides an nicely balanced perspective in the writing. By all means give it a try!
Good reading. Kept reading even when tired. Kept me interested until the last page! Want to read the rest and see what happens to the lady dragon Lord and her new recruits!!!!
Very well written Dragon tale! Any Dragon person will really enjoy this story as it's written especially for them. How the Author weaves the ideas together makes you want to see just how the story continues to take new ideas and make them real!
