*If you like brawny Highland warriors with a soft heart, and steamy romantic stories depicting the majestic and mysterious Scottish Highlands, then Her Broken Highlander is the perfect novel for you.
"Her Broken Highlander" is a Historical Scottish romance novel of more than 80,000 words (around 440 pages). No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Fiona Faris is an American author of authentic historical Medieval & Scottish romance books. She started writing historical highlander romance after she visited the Scottish Highlands years ago with her husband.
Her books have received startling reviews about the humor, the darkness and the romance they have.
She lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and their two sons. Before she started writing romance, she experienced the various occupations: translator, dog-training, and a substitute English teacher for the most part of her life... However, nothing could ever compare to writing stories depicting the majestic and mysterious Scottish Highlands!
This was a good paced story with plenty of action and some romance. Gavin and Amelia had met briefly, a number of years ago and upon meeting again they still felt that special connection. Gavin has a traumatic past to come to terms with and Amelia is on a particular mission. There are a number of secrets revealed and surprises. There is danger and passion making it an entertaining read.
Book 3 in the series finds the newly rescued Gavin coming to the aid of Amelia during a gaol escape attempt. Quite a dramatic beginning and one that is not all that far from the reality of the time. Amelia, like Milly in the first book, takes incredible risks to her own safety, again not telling anyone where she is going. First, she spends four years looking for her brother, yet a woman travelling alone in the highlands would never have been able to do such a thing. Keeping secrets in such times is almost guaranteed to put your life in danger and both Amelia and Gavin do just that. They could have gone to Cadney and gotten both help and safety from Laird Cabduh. He would not have crossed Lucas, or if he had gone to Cadney, would have been firmly beaten. I found the independence of Amelia to be far too modern. Women were not safe, no matter their status, and being English, she would not have lasted a week alone. Laird Liam is a lovely man and his story is a sad one. The poignancy of his story offsets the violence of Laird Cabduh but Liam would not have allowed the man to roam freely around his keep. The rescue was ill-planned and stupid. Gavin would have been dead within moments of barging into the shed, and Laird Cabduh would have slit Amelia's throat as soon as Gavin appeared. The temptation to kill her in front of him would have been too great. Why not all go in together? As with the first two books, the relationships became more intertwined and deeper, which was lovely.
A brief encounter in Perth when Gavin tries to break out of prison, and then reconnecting four years later. I love the premise of this book. Amelia's searching Scotland for a brother her father told her about on his deathbed, so the brother might not even exist. Gavin has PTSD from 4 years in jail, keeping the guards' attention off weaker countrymen so that he suffers the beatings instead. She dreams of the Highlander with emerald eyes who saved her from a spooked horse. He hangs onto his memory of the English lass Amelia with loch blue eyes to keep his sanity.
For those of you who have read the first two books, Ella & Lucas and Milly & Nathan are significant secondary characters here.
Do I need to read books before this one: no Would I read more of the series: yes Cliffhanger: no POSSIBLE TRIGGERS Sex: multiple scenes Language: 0 F words, 10 Lord's name in vain, 5 S words Violence: dungeons and their attendant horrors, a horse dies, kidnapping, stabbing, death by sword, death by illness, highway assault and fight
CRITIQUE (spoilers) This book needs a proofreader. But don't let that lack stop you from enjoying the story.
As usual, I love the male characters in FF’s books. Gavin is no exception. He was imprisoned for years by the English after a battle that killed his father and wounded his brother. His family, except for his twin assumed he was killed in battle. During his one attempt at escape, he saved Amelia and there was an instant connection between the two. Neither knew until they met again years later that their families were already connected. Great story, great characters. Secrets on both sides and the author does a great job of unraveling those secrets and building the love story between the two.
The strength of the characters Gavin and Amelia was wonderful. The need for true communication between them was inspirational. The series has been strong in encouraging strong family ties. I do agree with others, it is time to search for at least a reader. A reader familiar with Scottish clan history would be a gift. Too many misspelled words and incorrect sentences. It does keep me on my toes when reading. Loved the book. Thank you.
I really enjoyed this story. Faris does an excellent job of building the tension and creating characters to fall in love with. After finishing this book, I couldnt wait to read the extended epilogue she offers, as well as searching for the other books in this particular series. A short read for a good time, I had trouble putting this book down. Definitely recommended to romance lovers.
This is the story of a young man and his friend that are on their way to a prison camp. In an attempt to escape when the wagon stops they jump out and run. He throws a stone hitting the lead horse. He looks back to see a young lady that will surely be trampled by the horse. He runs back to save her only to be captured by the guards when he does. Read their continuing story to see what happens to them
This story was much longer than others in the series but so worth the time to read it. The love between these two is palpable and beautiful. There is excitement and intrigue. There are moments of anger and tender times of passion. Definitely worth the read!!! ❤. Enjoy!
This is a good and enjoyable story about a young English woman searching for her brother after her fathers death bed confession Along the way she meets Gavin and they fall in love The characters are strong and courageous This is a interesting story I enjoyed reading
A storyline that is full of suspense, fights and paramour. A highlander will fight till the death for his love. A highlander will stand beside his love in all situations. A highlander will travel the lands to help his love.
HER BROKEN HIGHLANDER :is a very enjoyable read. I really liked the story, it had a highlander feel. GAVIN is a wonderful loving hero and AMELIA The perfect mate..... however, this book really needs a re-write. There are so many misspelled and incorrect grammatical errors, very distracting .
This was a great story that kept moving until the very end. The characters were interesting and I like the Scottish setting. But there were several grammar and spelling errors that made reading so slow down. A good editor is needed!
I found this to be an amazing story with characters that endeared themselves to me from the start. Gavin went through years of imprisonment and torture and was so deserving of a happily ever after. I truly enjoyed Gavin and Amelia as a couple and the storyline kept me riveted.
This was a great book. I enjoyed the story, struggles and strife of these Highland families. The extended epilogue encourages me to read the 4 th book. I think it will be equally as good. I would recommend reading this series in order to get the full flavor of these clans and their hardships.
First time reading this authors book and I liked it, good storyline and plot, lots of adventure and romance, my kind of reading. Will go back and read the first two books in this series as I didn't know this was book three, now it makes sense!
Loved Amelia and Gavin's story. They were fated to be together and remained true and loyal to the very end. Their story was swoonworthy and the height of romance to me.
Riveting story of war , torture and highland strength. He saves the fair lady and his destiny begins. Strong healer faces a madman determined to put them in irons.
Wonderful story, about family secrets, and one young lady's determination to find her brother she never knew she had. And she finds love along the way. Thank you ♥️
Touching story of two people who meet again and must overcome the past. Dedication to finding a lost one one is one of the major parts. Excellent book.
