Started strong, then about halfway through I just lost interest. 3.5 ⭐ I may try again when I'm in the mood for dragon shifter romance books.

Interesting take….

Interesting take on a society of dragons. While not much is given on the day to day, this focuses on Stryker finding his mate.

Stryker is a dragon shifter – no spoiler alert there – Kat is not. These are our main characters. The book is good: the plot is interesting and twisty enough for the reader to stay engaged. The main characters are well defined and while there is a 180-degree change in one of the supporting characters brought about by a well-deserved tantrum of Kat’s, the change feels too sudden; years-long habits do not dissipate overnight, even with a passionate speech as the causative agent. For the most part, Kat remains a winning personality, strong and amusingly feisty…however…in the middle of the book she becomes a bit too dramatic and teary-eyed for her character as presented to us initially.

Also…I do not care for the good guys, the dragon protectors: they are thugs, killers, and I am not overly interested in reading any more books about them. Perhaps there is another series of books that include these “protectors’” back stories but as they are presented here, they are not heroes…not even dark ones.

The book is well written but as happens far too often in this genre, the grammatical and typographical errors are egregious and off-putting. Here’s an example: “…Stryker scanned the group and lout out a loud roar….” Hmmm: “…lout out?” That is a stopper – it pulls the reader out of the story to ponder on the appropriate word choice. Did she mean “let out?” Were there too many “ou” words? Seriously, the writer needs a good proofreader: the book appears to have been written too fast without allowing time for it to lay fallow before being picked up again and reread and proofed. And edited. And corrected. Before publication.

The final transgression, to my mind, is the ending. Minimally, an epilog is definitely needed. While not precisely a cliffhanger, there are so many, many loose ends that the book leaves its readers dissatisfied. While the writer’s style is enjoyable, and I think I would like to read another of her books, this series is not worth my time. The book could have received 5-stars but for too many jarring errors and an unsatisfying ending.

Dragonshifter Stryker breaks protocol when he steps in to save Kat. The overworked girl is confronted by a group of men who wish to send a message to her father to pay his debts. It’s only a matter of time before the other elite bodyguards notice his unsanctioned activities but his dragon is convinced, he has found his mate.

I find this an unusual entry point for the series. Stryker is new to the Dragon Protectors, he doesn’t know all the rules and regulations yet is working by himself. They are presented as misguided—almost no better than the thugs they are fighting—which doesn’t breed sympathy. Overall, there is not a lot of action, and it needed another pass by an editor before release. Honestly this feels like a teaser release to a series rather than a full novel. That world seems interesting, but it isn’t really developed here. We don’t find the heiress or stop Double Tap. We don’t know all the magic or organization rules. …Now as a simple paranormal romance it’s okay. It’s short. The couple is likable enough and I must admit prevention of death is a great reason to accept the instalove mating rituals. I agree it gives YA vibes with her emotional unsteadiness and the glossing over of her family problems.

Different take on dragon shifters.

It's like Styker is as new to the Dragon Protectors, as Kat was to dragons. I couldn't tell if Draco was really his friend or not despite being his mentor. There's no sharing of their gifts to each other dragon shifter, so I can't see them being very cohesive as a group if they don't know everyone's strengths, or why it's a big secret. There's no talk of true mates, or that trumping everything. Also I don't see how her parents could be "saved" from their problems after such a short vacation. I assume there will be more evolving of the dragons security group and future info, as the series progresses. There were a few typos but not terrible. Not sure if I'll continue. We'll see.

Awesome Dragon Shifter

Stryker is a dragon shifter who is a secret bodyguard organization. He is searching for another woman when he encounters Kat being detained by thugs who are going to kill her and her mother. Kat's mother is sick and takes care of her. This and holds down two jobs while her dad drinks. Stryker saves her, however this is unauthorized.

The characters are unique, intriguing, and the humans are believable. A fast paced romantic drama sure to engage until the end of the book.

Stryker is part of a continuous series. I enjoyed the characters are believable and heroic. I am going to read the entire series.

Excellent!!!

I rarely encounter a book that I’m willing to write a review - this book is an exception! The storyline is fantastic - that alone would make me review this and add the rest of the series to my library.

The movement through the storyline is a little fast, some of the interactions could use a bit more, and I wish the book were a bit longer but I’m telling you - I’m getting the rest of the series - and I will be happy to do so!

Kudos Ms. Benton - I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series!!

Good read

I like the book, I was expecting more action. Nice fated mates book, it left out a lot for me. It ended too quickly, it didn't say what happened after their blood oath. I wanted to know, if she now works with the dragons? Are the parents still on their road to recovery? Does she get the chance to finally enjoy being debt free? All information I wish was in this book, do they remain at the safe house? I still liked the book

4 or 5 hmm

Couldn't decide which to give, but couldn't not give it five!! A sweet tale of a down on her luck daughter being saved from thugs by a dragon...who then proceeds to do everything he can to.protect her. Lots of great characters although would have liked a little more at the tail end but this may be covered in a later.installment....another reason for the five!!

short and sweet

Kat was realistic. I liked how she was real, that she was having a breakdown over all the stress and weight of burden on her to care for her family but in the next breath stand her ground against a dragon. Loved how easy Stryker and Kat talked and just meshed. Good story.

A good beginning

It’s a good beginning to a story. But just not enough in my opinion. It’s really short. But I would have loved to have more of the story play out then end where it did. More of the beginning could have been expanded on. 3 Stars for the concept. But follow through needs more.

It was a good story with some editing issues (not huge ones, but they were there). My biggest issue was that it ends rather abruptly. It's not really a cliffhanger, but not a truly satisfying end either.

The story itself was ok but the writing was confusing. It seemed to jump around a lot and the ending wasn't really an ending, it left more questions than it answered. What happened to her parents? What's involved in the blood oath? etc.
I wouldn't really recommend this book.

Not as good as the first book

This book just didn't have the oomph the first
book by this author did. Almost didn't finish it, loose ends seemed to be scattered in the story line and added as an afterthought.

Horrible lazy editing

Good storyline and plot, horrid editing. Lazy writing. The writer needs to go back to grammar school for a few years before trying again. I won't read another.

Loyalty, Love and Commitment

Sometimes the unexpected happens and the decisions we make in that moment c

hange the direction of our lives. We don't know what those changes will be long term, but it could be a wonderful ride.

This was a very entertaining book on dragon shifters. The book was a little short, so we did not really get to understand some of the characters. I would need to read the second book to see if the story arc is good or not.

Okay

Heroine wouldn't stop crying in the middle of the book.the story began very well but then was all rushed together and finished. Would have been better if it had been longer

It started well but appears to be unfinished. It would be better as a longer story, allowing the characters to develop further and a few more threads to be tied up before the next book begins.

Can’t say I’m a fan, lots of errors, the story doesn’t gel properly. Skipped a few pages because Kat kept repeating herself. I liked the storyline, with a few adjustments it could be great
