This interview with Australian writer, academic and broadcaster, Waleem Aly, provides an insightful overview of Waleed's life growing up in Australia to Egyptian parents, and with a Muslim faith. It also gives an interesting perspective into his views on sincerity, compassion and integrity. Some highlights gleaned from Waleed's guiding principles and values: The best leadership (in many areas of life), comes from a service ethic in preference to self interest, Secondly, when arguing, try to seek clarification/truth from the argument, in preference to just seeking victory! A succinct read from the "I know this to be true" series, inspired by Nelson Mandela.

What a great perspective of how to bring the perspectives of our cultures from the east into the west. I liked how Waleed mentions that the best arguments are not those you win, they are those that you learn something new from/ the ones you lose. It’s a great short read.

Received this book in the mail and was surprised at how compact it was in size and content..read it in one sitting (i.e. couldnt put it down!:) Everything that Waleed "knows to be true" as written in this book makes it TRUE. This is because he embodies the values he knows to be true (e.g integrity and especially humility) in the way he talks and answers questions. Great read and one that I will keep coming back to again and again.
Also love the photography used on the cover which gives homage to Waleed's ethnicity 😉

As a rule I think, at least in democracies, I do think we sometimes treat our politicians in an inhuman way. Sometimes I think they're asking for that in the way that they behave. But we do forget that they are human beings, at the centre of that. I think it's important for people who are in that world to remember that, just occasionally.

A super engaging and insightful read. I’ve loved Waleed’s mind via his various platforms (The Mindfield podcast is fabulous), and this quick read provided a nice understanding of where and how his values developed.
I’ll now look for another in this series.

"I think the world needs more sincerity. And I think it needs more humility. I think it needs more people prepared to listen to people they think they don't like"

I don't really know why this was a book instead of an article. Was decent, it's hard to go wrong with the format where you just ask somebody their thoughts on a bunch of topics.
