For all my gripes with ED 4th edition, I have to admit that: a) they love EarthDawn, they know EarthDawn and it shows, b) FINALLY there is original content published that is not reprints. Good content at that.

Passions is a book I bought as I want to support ED, always and forever. I wasn't entirely interested in it, though, as we run a (heavily modified) 1st edition and Passions/Questors were never a big focus on our sessions. That said, this was a good read. As always, I loved the in-style... well, style of the book. True, some entries were a bit 'meh' and repetitive, for example "cultivating the land is good and one should cultivate the land" for Jaspree or the whole "healing the community thing for Garlen" but some were really, really good. Either they provided a wholly unique look at a given Passion (Lochost, Raggok/Rashomon, Upandal) or gave me ideas for interesting characters (Dis/Erendis and Chorrolis).

The mechanics part of the book also gave me a couple of ideas on how to do Questors in a way different than the 1ed one, but I'll need to sit on it and think how to adapt these ideas to our sessions.

I just wish there was more written about Passion themselves, especially legends/accounts of Name Givers encountering them.

This is a book I have been waiting for through many editions of Earthdawn. It gets the job done, although it isn’t flashy.

This is a difficult book to review. Essentially structured like the amazingly written Adepts’ Way from the 90’s but for Questors, a book on the Passions like this has been needed for 25 years. However, the writing is several tiers below The Adepts’ Way and is just not as engaging. There are a few moments of brilliance in Questors though - examining the idea of justice from a position of empathy as opposed to the usual “justice is blind” trope. The artwork is also mediocre at best. In the end, I settled on 2 stars although a case can definitely be made for higher depending on what your Earthdawn group wants in a game.
