Rate this book
The Rancher Takes A Wife - 1878 NebraskaFor schoolmarm Rachel Ambry, Christmas Eve means getting through the special program she and her pupils have put together for the townsfolk in Langdon. And even though she has vowed to not set eyes on handsome Calvin Hunsaker, it becomes inevitable when his incorrigible son needs her help. Calvin is the only person who seems to see past her ugly birthmark, yet Rachel senses that he also sees her as the spineless, helpless socialite she used to be.Calvin Hunsaker is determined to ignore the feeling of attraction stirring inside him for the beautiful schoolmarm, even though he isn't doing a very good job. He isn't ready for another wife, especially one who is ill-suited for the harshness of prairie life. And besides, Rachel is trying to pick up the pieces after her brother and sister-in-law's untimely deaths and raise their three youngsters, not bedazzle him with the same frivolous charms his first wife possessed. Better to bundle up and head out of the one-room schoolhouse the second the Christmas program ends. But a heavy winter storm and two mischievous boys have other plans, and Rachel and Calvin's efforts to avoid each other go awry when Calvin is stranded at Rachel's house over the Christmas break. Will there be holiday cheer to lighten their hearts or will the winter blues descend on them once again? Read this delightful Christian historical Western novella to find out! The Christmas Switch was previously published under the author's real name, Laura L. Walker.

Невероятно мила и нежна книга за същността на Коледа, която носи най - неочаквани милости. Дори да не осъзнаваме какво ни липсва, за да сме щастливи и завършени , се случва така, че съдбата сама се грижи за нас.

Well, I can’t say that this story is one I really enjoyed and want to read again or anything. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. It was just okay.
None of the characters seemed well developed and the whole plot was . . . creative?
There were some prayers and reading the Bible, but there were also some kisses and well, it just wasn’t what I was wanting in a Christmas story.

Set in Nebraska in 1878, The Christmas Switch is a delightful, well-crafted Christmas novella. A uniquely entertaining plot, endearing characters, tender romance, and encouraging faith lessons combine to make this a quick, feel good read that will make you smile. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

I think this might have been a free one for the Christmas season. It was very clean, but also very boring. I was constantly reminded of a similar, much better, story that is actually one of my favorites. The Christmas Switch fell short, probably due to lack of character development. Not one I'd read again soon.

This is a short, fast, cute little book that was kind of like a backwards parent trap. I enjoyed it. It is a novella so it almost seems too short but It was really cute

If you enjoy a sweet, clean and quick romance, you will enjoy this little gem. It actually reads just like a Hallmark movie. Sylvia Moore and Chase Ellis are both location scouts looking for locations for their company's newest movies. Dickens is the perfect town for Christmas movies. Sylvia is positive that she will have the upper hand and win the location. After all she grew up in Dickens and she has family who still live in Dickens. Chase Ellis is very efficient and gets his application in first. The sparks start flying, and you can see a romance brewing immediately. This is a good opposites attract or enemies/competitors to friends/lovers romance. It was a good light hearted read for a rainy day evening for me. You will close the book with a smile on your face.

"A Sweet, Sweet Story"

Hey, it's 1878 in Langdon, Nebraska and a rancher is not married, and he's not looking to be. School teacher Rachel Ambry is not looking for a husband either. She is determined not to be drawn to handsome Calvin Hunsaker ... that is until his incorrigible son needs her help. Calvin is not drawn to her as he thinks she's a spoiled socialite and a persnickety woman. But ... things rapidly change! This is a great entertaining story for a gray, cold winter day. It's not too long, but it sure is comforting!

5 stars. Christian western romance.

The setting is Christmas of 1878 in sparsely-populated Nebraska. When the school teacher's boy trades places with a classmate during a snowstorm, Rachel finds herself snowed in with the single rancher who rides through the worsening weather to return Rachel's boy and collect his own. Rachel and Calvin get to know one another during several days of forced isolation on Rachel's farm. However, they may get to know one another really, really well if they are forced to marry to save the school teacher's reputation and her livelihood. Highly recommended.

Good things happen at Christmas

This is a good quick Christmas read and really enjoyable. When two young boys switch places after the Christmas program, the results cause problema for all. In the middle of a snowstorm, Calvin must return Johnny to his Aunts house and retrieve his son. But the snowstorm turns into a blizzard, which complicates things further. What will the outcome be for all involved?

Excellent

Cute Christmas romance between two imperfect people who are perfect for each other. Great characters. Leave it to kids to come up with a crazy plan. Too bad with all the Christian Christmas spirit shared in the home Christian love did not exist in the town. I'd move. The plot was just enough different I think most readers will enjoy it.

Rachel had come west to be a teacher and be with her brother, his wife and family. Teaching brought her a joy, even the pranks of the boys. This last one they did, was after the Christmas program. Bundle up because of the blizzard, who knew what they had done, until arriving home. How it turned out made a delightful short story.

Fabulous characters that capture your heart. This story was so beautiful, it carried the true meaning of Christmas. This old fashion Christmas story was about sharing and love for mankind, thinking of oneself last. A sweet clean romance that was centered around the children and dreams of being loved. A fantastic story that weaves itself in and around the readers heart!

Calvin ❤️ Rachel

Short and sweet. It’s just the way it’s done, this judgmental society. Also, a little spice with a little anxiety. Aunt Rachel with guardianship of her nephew and two nieces is also the school teacher in town. Calvin, a single Dad and rancher has a son, Johnny. When the children get together, what can happen?

Never a dull moment in this story

A lot of little plans from young minds that end up causing a bit of trouble for a father and a teacher raising her 2 nieces and a nephew after a tragedy. Things really get moving fast after a child talks another into switching places. Oh boy does that make some problems.

Sweet, Inspirational Christmas Romance

I loved this sweet, inspirational Christmas story! This is not a "preachy" story by any means, but it does talk about God's love for us. A wonderful story that is going in my list to reread.

Rachel and Calvin

There's nothing quite like having the kids plotting against the adults. Nothing ever goes like it's planned and who knows what the end result will be.
You won't be disappointed in this book. Great characters and story line!

They switched places without anyone knowing.

It was sweet how the boys brought them together. I liked how the story showed him her carature and it was better then anything that was wrong with her.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed that Rachel didn't hesitate to show her faith and talk to the children about God.

I received a free book, and this is my honest opinion.

Rachel and Calvin had no idea what life held for them after the two young boys played a prank on them. What were the boys up to? Relax and enjoy this beautiful story. It will have you shaking your head but smiling as you do so.

Great Christmas Treat

I so enjoyed the characters because they seemed so real. A lovely story of redemption with adults who dealt with outward and inward suffering alone. Together they become a strong loving couple open to forming a family with 4 darling children .

This was a good book!

I enjoyed this book, with one of my favorite story lines. It wasn't slow paced, but gave plenty of details not have to wonder about things. The characters were likeable & well developed.

Cute, quirky, and quick plus lighthearted read. There isn't time for much character development. Overall not a bad read but just would have liked to see more development in storyline and characters before it ended.
