Aparute initial in foileton, Misterele Parisului erau atat de palpitante, incat, dupa cum spunea Théophile Gautier, unii bolnavi au refuzat sa moara in asteptarea finalului. A fost un fenomen literar care a bulversat societatea franceza, punand in scena personaje cu cele mai diverse origini, caractere si situatii financiare: printul care face acte de caritate deghizat in muncitor, prostituata evlavioasa, hotul cu suflet mare, notarul diabolic sau vicontele escroc.

Joseph Marie Eugène Sue (20 January 1804 – 3 August 1857) was a French novelist.
He was born in Paris, the son of a distinguished surgeon in Napoleon's army, and is said to have had the Empress Joséphine for godmother. Sue himself acted as surgeon both in the Spanish campaign undertaken by France in 1823 and at the Battle of Navarino (1828). In 1829 his father's death put him in possession of a considerable fortune, and he settled in Paris.
A street in Paris is named for Eugene Sue, in the 18th Arrondissement: Rue Eugene Sue is located near the Poissonnière Metro station, and is not far from Montmartre and the Basilica of the Sacré Coeur.

Le livre est pas mal mais un peu pédant, il y a beaucoup de belles descriptions de Paris mais c’est long et ennuyeux.

Maintenant que les fils s’emmêlent c’est tout à fait passionnant. Le livre 9 ouvre de nouvelles pistes, mais aborde avec une certaine modernité les question ms de la justice à double standard, du rôle des prisons dans nos société et de l’abolition de la peine de mort. Ces questions restent pour certaines encore d’actualité. Les derniers chapitres indiquent le début de la fin

Cuốn này cho kém điểm hơn các cuốn trước vì tác giả nói triết lý nhiều, kẻ ác bị trừng phạt một cách khá dễ dàng, không thuyết phục (như lão Ferrand), anh chàng Germain thì quá nhu nhược.
