Life Sucks. Get Used To It. : NOT a Self-Help Book. But Might Change your Life.

Rate this book

We live in strange times. Most of us hate our jobs, our parents are sending us friend requests on Facebook, and Memes are the only form of entertainment that truly make us happy.
Life sucks; get used to it is India’s first Anti-Self-Help book!
While regular self-help books want to look into your eyes, hold your hand and tell you that the universe is waiting to reward you in beautiful ways, Life sucks; get used to it is more like a spank on the bottom that encourages you to accept the harsh realities of life, with some tough love, of course.
This BS-free and no-nonsense handbook provides you with actionable tools you can use to bring about a change in your life. Somewhere among the brutal truths, life lessons, humorous puns, profound sarcasm and profanity-laden thoughts, you might just end up finding the answer to living your best life and making your place in this big, bad world.

It’s an interesting book. The author tries to bring change in the reader's life through his words full of reality. This book has all the practical examples, things we are doing in our day to day life. The author has discussed some interesting realities, the actionable tools that we can use to bring changes in our life. There are truths that the author discussed which we fail to admit. Divided into 11 chapters the author has discussed every possible topic that affects us, our life and how we can change that. My favourite chapter is the art of knowing and about mental health. How social media affects.
I liked the writing style of the author. It’s simple and engaging. The way the author narrated every example, concept in a crisp way is commendable.

Life Sucks Get Used To It by Mohamed Zubair
Genre - Non-fiction (not a self-help)
Pages - 155
When you read this book, you don’t read a self-help book, you read the most pessimistic self-love guide you can find, and you’re gonna feel more empowered and happier than ever.
Life Sucks Get Used To It is not a self-help book. It is a book that paints a picture of what the world is like in the present times, where it may go in the future, how difficult it is to survive in a such a world but how you can not only survive, but thrive too.
So many books try to point our perception towards the beautiful parts of the world and rightly so, but that perception is often shattered once we drop the book. Zubair on the other hand, paints the ugliest picture, probably uglier than your actual life is, and then tells you how you can soar high, and you think to yourself - “if I can soar high in this ugly picture, I can soar higher in my real life!”
I had a tingling sensation and a sly smile throughout the book. Self-love is not a reward, it is a tool in this book, and I never realised it’s importance the way I did once I was done. The language is easy, simple, rough, tough, striking, and heart-warming.
Life sucks, and you have to get used it, but you’re not alone. Therefore, if you are looking for a non-filter friend to guide you through all areas of life, this is your book.

"The stories we tell ourselves are important because a lot of people greatly benefit when we behave like sheep. It makes their job of brainwashing so much easier."

BOOK: Life Sucks. GET USED TO IT.
AUTHOR: @reluctant.opportunist (aka Mohamed Zubair)
GENRE: #antiselfhelpbook
PUBLISHER:@notionpress.books
RATING: 🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀

"Life Sucks. Get used to it " is an anti self help book. The author doesnt tell us to follow any methods or mantras, he just want us to find out ourselves and what we need by ourself. And as the title goes we already know that "life sucks" mostly, everyone might have felt this at times. And "get used to it" is a term most people frequently tell us, when we find it hard to accept the unacceptable and we also know that we need to" get used to it" and there is no other way. We are in the technologically peak era with good education, but still we suffer alot from our jobs, to parents to our decisions, and its consequences. Anything and everything can disturb us and at the same time get us excited. We might also know the outcome of certain things and still go for it. We are either reckless or too scared. We can have regrets but it shouldn't keep us in one place. You are allowed to cry, but you are also allowed to move forward than sitting with the past.

The cover and title intruiged me. I feared if it might be another boring self help book because I absolutely hate self help books. But I loved this book and I am so happy I brought it. Also, its a simple book, do not search answers from self help books or others, do what suits for yourself, for who knows you better than yourself.

Mohamed Zubair, I absolutely love your writing, please continue to enlighten and entertain us the same way.

Best 'not' self help book

This book gives perspective to a lot of things in life. It is showing us the mirror of facts which we already knew but were in denial of.

I have never been a sucker for non-fiction books let alone the pretentious “self-help” genre. This book is rather a simple conversation between the author and the reader. The fact that it is so simply written and even simpler to read helps the reader to acknowledge the most difficult of questions that life has put a question mark on. The writer is not prioritising on finding the answers, he is highlighting what one shouldn’t be afraid to tell oneself.

The writer through this handbook has tried to reveal some of the harshest realities that one is just not up for admitting. He has provided his own definitions for the abstract feelings of hope, love and happiness. He has given reader the opportunity to embrace the truth, no matter how bitter it is and to reflect upon what went wrong, without blaming it on the easy excuses.

This book is a quintessential guide on how not to perceive things, how not be the one taking risks blindly without measuring the odds, how to analyse what one really wants in life, how not all negative emotions have one dwindling down the road and can actually fuel one’s conscience for getting better, how to handle toxic bosses, relationships and when to just let go.

This is one such book that I’ll probably recommend to everyone. Not because there aren’t already a bunch of books out there talking about the same things, but because this one doesn’t sugar coat anything and whatever the author implies kinda hits at the right spot!

📕True, Life sucks!!!!
Yes, the most familiar statement we hear is from almost every third person.
Well, this book is not a self help but anti self help book.

📕You read it right. The author formulates us to meet the brutal truths of life. The harsh realities are absent in typical self help books. Such books are based only on affirmations, manifestations and laws of attraction. No practicability.

📕However, the author of this book made an effort to change our outlook and brushes our mind to accept the things as they are but of course with some life lessons.

📕This book is divided into 11 different themes which cover our entire life.It is an illustrative directory on how not to perceive things.

T𝓱𝓮 𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓼𝓸𝓷 𝔀𝓮’𝓻𝓮 𝓸𝓯𝓽𝓮𝓷 𝓸𝓹𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓬 𝓪𝓫𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓲𝓭𝓮𝓪𝓼 𝓲𝓼 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝔀𝓮 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓸𝓸 𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓵𝔂 𝓲𝓷𝓿𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓭 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶. 𝓦𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓴 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝔂 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓼𝓾𝓹𝓹𝓸𝓼𝓮𝓭 𝓽𝓸 𝓫𝓮 𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓽𝓲𝓬𝓴𝓮𝓽 𝓪𝔀𝓪𝔂 𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓶 𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓮𝓶𝓼

📕Many a time negativity hovers in many facets of life and that's what the author wants to communicate and teaches us to admit the realities of life.

❤️The author employed amusing puns, profound sarcasm and profanity-laden thoughts which will actually answers our questions and tell us to be a better version of ourselves.

📕I recommend it to everyone. It’s definitely a must read book and a must have in your book shelf.

📚 𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝.

The author Mohamed Zubair brings light to some of the harsh realities of life that we avoid or refuse to admit. He wants you to accept this reality of life so that you won’t be delusional by false hope.

The goal of the book is to encourage you to embrace the truth and start a journey of self-reflection and actualisation. Also, to face all your problems and fears with a clear mind. In this book, he bluntly and honestly discusses the problems all of us are facing in this modern times. He points out some crucial issues we’re dealing with in our lives.

You’ll learn:

🔸 How you can use your fears and anger for your personal growth, to drive you in the right direction.
🔸 The importance of being tough, how to minimise failures and the theory behind winning.
🔸 Making yourself first priority and combating all the prejudices.
🔸 Importance of mental health, bad impact of social media and how to free yourself from unnecessary chaos.
🔸 Strategies to survive in the corporate jungle.
🔸 Guidance and misconceptions about happiness. Advice on love and relationships.

It’s a well researched book. It includes many research studies and data to prove the point. The author has also added some good humour. I enjoyed reading it and laughed many times.

If you liked the book ‘The Subtle Art of not giving a F*ck’, then you should try this one too.

📚 We often feel puzzled when it comes to how to live life. Some say with the term self and some go with the terms family and others.

📚 The main work of this book is to introduce the uncomfortable truth about life. As the title says ‘life sucks’ with all this the author penned down his content to give the reader a glimpse of the uncertainty of life.

📚 He tried a different approach not going the typical self-help way. His main purpose is to introduce you to the things we deny to accept in our life or find too uncomfortable to accept them. By doing this we take control of our lives into our hands only then we can head towards a peaceful life.

Things he talked about. 👇
🔹 Who's responsible for your happiness?
And what you can do about it.
🔹 Using anger for the self benefits. And understanding your emotions.
🔹 Romantic and non-romantic relations. How to lead them and when to leave them.
🔹 Benefits of living in present. Not selling yourself for the future and enjoying what you have now.
🔹 making yourself the priority and everything comes after that.

📌 I recommend this book to everyone. I believe any reader will learn good things and can use them to improve his life.

💭 Author’s writing style is good. It's easy to read and written in a fast phase which helps the reader to keep on reading.

Masterclass in Motivation

If a measure of a book is how much it can change your life then this book is right up there. You will see subtle changes in the way you think and approach things. The author Zubair uses situations, commentary, and the power of humour to deliver a message that lasts.

Great modern day thinker

I will call this book one by a great modern day thinker because all other self help books are by past famous personalities but that time was different. Today is a different time and this is one of the few books that are written for these times.

As the title clearly states it is not a self help book but in reality this book can really help you. It is that unfiltered friend you need in life to tell you some harsh realities. After you complete reading the book do reflect on what you always wanted to hear and found it right in this book!

(This book was given to me as a blind review)
An ugly book for ugly people. Narcissists shouldn’t publish books.
The title alone doesn’t even sound “refreshingly honest”, it’s just plain immature.
Good luck to anyone even remotely interested in the garbage.

Started off ok, it kept saying that this is not a motivational or positive thinking book. But towards the ending it's still inclined to that .. don't really gain anything out of it... Just a casual "time-killer" read

Do you have a friend/family member who gives you the brutal truth when you ask for it? Life Sucks, Get Used To It is that kind of book! A genre in itself, this book discusses life, career, self-improvement, and love & relationships.

Just a brief scroll through my Instagram feed or Goodreads read books will give you a sneak peek of the kind of books I read, you'll rarely find a non-fiction/self-help book. On this rare occasion, I was intrigued by the title and it NOT being a 'self-help' book. After reading the first 40 pages of the book, I was hooked. It made me laugh and many times throughout the book I was like 'that's ME!' or 'OMG that's my view too!'.

Life Sucks, Get Used To It , came off as a Malcolm Gladwell book- giving statistical figures and anecdotes to help ease the reader into the book. The use of anecdotes and the author's own life experiences gave the book a conversational tone rather than a preachy one. The language was simple and not jarring.

My favorite chapters in the book were about: mental health & social media, the corporate jungle, and love & relationship. It was refreshing to see the perspective of not being positive all the time, and that being negative is not always bad. The book was raw and brutally honest, giving constant reality checks (or should I say slaps :P ). One thing I would take away from this book and use every day in my life is this quote: " You must know your worth. You must know the value of your work. And you must never undersell yourself. ". If you won't value yourself, then who will !?!

A lot of truth bombs coming in with a hint of F-bombs- so if you're not comfortable reading a book with cuss words then... I don't know close your eyes or just skip the word LOL. Cause you'd be missing out on this gem.

All in all, I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who's trying to put their life in perspective or redefine themselves.

Thank you, Zubair (AKA the author), for sending across a digital copy of the book and letting me review it!

A Fantastic book by Mohamed Zubair, lots of practical experiences shared by the author.

Somewhat similar to 'The Rudest Book Ever' and 'Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fck', but not the same.
Zubair's suggestions are simple and straightforward because in the end it is us who has make a choice.

Can be read in single sitting, however the grasping and implementation may take some more time.
Please read it with a open mind and expect the unexpected.
