Bellevue Bullies #6

Spiked by Love

Rate this book
Allison Titov and Asher Brooks have been best friends their whole lives. Brought up together as part of the Assassins family, they might as well be related. But... Ally has never felt anything sisterly toward Asher.

In love with Asher since she was a teen, Ally has gone pro at keeping her feelings a secret. It’s been easy... as long as he’s stayed halfway across the country at college and she has a volleyball to slap her frustrations out on. But now, he’s home. And having his quick wit, heart-filling laugh, and adorkable smile so close is going to test her like never before.

After being dumped by his fiancée, Asher is at a loss what to do next. He craves stability, but with an unexpected kiss, Ally might as well have spiked Asher in the face with a volleyball. Now he’s faced with the dilemma of his life. Does he keep Ally in the friend zone, or does he take the ultimate risk for love?

If they’ve learned one thing growing up in the glow of hockey greatness, it’s that you can’t win it all if you don’t play the game. And by serving one hell of an ace into the middle of Asher’s safe little life, Ally is ready to claim victory.

Asher isn’t just some guy. He’s the guy.

Spiked by Love is the sixth book in the Bellevue Bullies series with tie-ins to the Assassins series as well. It can be read as a stand-alone, but these books are so character driven and interconnected I would recommend reading the other books first.

Allison Tivot and Asher Brooks have basically been best friends since birth. Not only are their moms close friends, but their dads played hockey for the Assassins. They have pretty much grown up together. Allison is in her last year of college and after graduating, Asher has moved back home to Nashville. The two pick up right where they left off like only best friends can. The more time they spend together, the more apparent it is that these two are much more than 'just friends'.

My favorite thing about these books is the family dynamic. It was great to be back with the Brooks family as well as the Tivots. I loved the scenes with the parents and siblings and I never get tired of reading about this group. Ally is one of those heroines I completely adored and I loved Asher lots too. Watching them go from best friends to realizing their real feelings for one another was a beautiful thing.

I've said it once and I'll say it a dozen more times I'm sure, but Toni Aleo writes the BEST sports romances. This was a little different as our heroine was a volleyball player and our hero wasn't very athletic, but I loved it just as much as the others. If you're looking for a steamy, sweet, and fun friends to lovers romance, I recommend picking this one up!

So much angst! And I loved it. Ally and Asher have been friends since they were kids and were as close as any two people can get. But they both have a secret that they never want to get out. Their feelings for one another. Neither want to mess up the friendship they have so instead they stay silent about their true feelings and just stay friends. But now that Asher is back home in Nashville and around Ally all the time, the line they don't want to cross is getting smaller and smaller.

Ally and Asher were so sweet together and I loved seeing how they were together. It was a friendship to be envious of and I really liked seeing it. I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time, waiting for one of them to finally make a move to be something more than friends but the wait was so worth it. It was fun to see them make the progression from friends to more, even though I was just about going crazy and screaming for them to finally do it. But the fact that their story had me that captivated was amazing.

Overall, this is definitely a recommended read for anyone that loves an angsty friends-to-lovers story. It can be read as a standalone but there is a lot of the Nashville Assassin family that's mentioned and it could maybe be a little confusing if you're not familiar with any of them.

I’ve read other books by this author but this was a miss. She broke some of the basics rules if you want a believable love story between childhood friends. She did that same thing so many basic authors do and had the h be the one pining for the hero of course the same way it’s been done a million times) completely unable to move on... Then we have our hero who supposedly has also been in love with her as well, but had no problem moving on. He even gets engaged... Nope that’s basically a dealbreaker. I can deal with the guy having a girlfriend while supposedly “loving” the heroine, but being able to picture their life with someone to the extent that they consider marriage or actually get married? I can’t buy the “love” after that. Adding to the fact that she just waited way to long for them to get together, without a decent reason, and this book is just a dud. I’m so tired of seeing hero’s that are “in love” but are out screwing around, while the heroine is just pining away. It ruins any chance of believing the sincerity.

One of the most emotional friends to lovers romance journey I have read in a long time! The depth of emotion was deeply embedded into the story making this an angst filled ball of feelings wrapped in heart! SO MUCH HEART!!

The more words I read by this author the more I fall in love with not just her as a writer, but the worlds that she creates. Way back in the day, I lacked serious enthusiasm for her style. Today, I cannot devour her words fast enough!

The relationship that Ally and Asher had on a friend level and then morphed into more was one that had me rethinking the status of my own friendships. These two were deep friends. They were each other’s person. That was super important to them and its what made me fall head over heels for them both! Their growth and the development of their relationship was so on point, I felt every angst-y moment to my core. And when I say angst-y, I do not mean dark, just to be clear lol. It was angst-y because it was important, and it was critical, and it was just so damn beautiful! If you’re not reading Toni’s words, you’re doing yourself a disservice.

Spiked by Love was the sixth book in the Bellevue Bullies series by Toni Aleo. The series was a spinoff from the Nashville Assassin series. Although I’ve read all the series books in order (Assassin’s, Bellevue Bullies, and Nashville Assassin’s Second Generation), each series can all be read as stand-alone series with full enjoyment and understanding.

We’ve heard about best friends, Asher Brooks and Allison “Ally” Titov for awhile now. Everyone (the whole Nashville Assassin gang) thought they should be together, but they both continued to chant, just friends. Asher was the son of Lucas and Fallon Brooks (Assassin’s book two, Trying to Score) and Ally was the daughter to Harper and Jacob Titov (Assassin’s book seventeen, One-Timer). Ally was a few years older, but they grew up together.

Spiked by Love was well written and well developed. I like a best friends to lovers theme and I liked that Aleo didn’t follow the typical path like a fake relationship, fake engagement, friends with benefits, etc. With that said, I wasn’t sold on their mental path. I did; however, like their path to the end. No spoilers, so no elaboration, but I couldn’t relate mentally and I think that’s why it wasn’t my favorite. But it could very well be your favorite and a path that clicks for you.

All in all, it was well written, well developed, great characters, great secondary characters with the entire Assassin series gang, fun and humorous. I love the series and I can’t wait to see who’s next.

Ally & Asher have been inseparable nearly their whole lives, best friends forever. Since he's been away at college, it's been easier for her to breathe, to keep up the facade that she doesn't love him as more than a friend; but now that he's back home, she's finding it harder to keep up the pretense. And can it be that perhaps Ash might feel the same way? The attraction is definitely there, now if only he'd open up and tell her how he really feels, leave his heart open the way she's left hers. If only his feelings didn't scare the crap out of him.

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and Toni Aleo has done it so well here. I love the easy familiarity in conjunction with the intense chemistry these two friends have that only the people who have been best friends for so long have. And as those feelings morphed into more, or at least, as they admitted the feelings each had long had - whew, talk about sparks flying! Of course, Ash had to be a stupid man for a minute there, but I gotta admit that the way they made up was so sweet. As sweet as these two are.

Toni Aleo writes some of my favorite sports romances. Why? Her characters are family. They love like family. They fight like family. And they are there for each other like family. And I feel like home when I read them. I'm not sure if Angie's story is next, but I sure hope so because she is a feisty, bright spot in this already amazing story.

I love Toni Aleo, I really truly do. But y'all what I'm about to say has to be said....I didn't enjoy this at all. This is unfortunate because I love Toni and her hockey books. They provide a sense of comfort for me. Maybe it's just me but her recent stuff, besides Wild Tendy, just haven't been great. I'll just leave my complaints from the notes I took while reading below.

Maybe a bit of spoilers??
- Felt like a carbon copy of a lot of her other books. She has some pretty unique stories, but this felt too similar to others
- Both characters were whiny and *whispers* a bit dumb
- Her heroines are always insecure about something. They get less of a personality and the insecurity is the focus
- I'm kinda over the tropes where heroes are "damaged" because of their pasts and won't let themselves fall in love...especially when they're like Asher and literally have nothing to make them damaged
- Ally....girl you cannot force someone to feel stuff. Also, THREE WEEKS in and you want the man to confess his love to you???
- I loved the side characters, but I've noticed that they're nosey as fuck and it's annoying
- The author also kinda overloads with the cheese and it's always a hit or miss for me. I also vomit when a book dies grand gestures
- Please for the love of life, never use the term "chub" in reference to a man's anatomy, just kill me instead

There were other little things that annoyed me, but aren't worth mentioning. HOWEVER, I will continue to read this author because I'm obsessed with her.

DNF.
I read only 70%
And this is a rant about my frustration with this book(and next generation books in general) and why I didn't finish.
I really really love Toni's books and the books from this series are my favourite of them all but this book was so disappointing.
My issues with the book-
TOO MUCH FAMILY!!!! I understand playing on nostalgic value. It is existing when we revisit old characters and I did get excited when Claire came in to choreograph dance for Shelli's wedding. But we had too much of Emery & Stella antics. In general most of what I read was conversations with old characters, no one new was introduced.

COULD'VE BEEN A NOVELLA. This book felt like a dragged out epilogue for three assassin characters. This could have been a novella set during Aly and Asher's wedding about how the Brooks and the Titovs felt about their kids getting married and we could have gotten some back story of their line story.

MADE NO SENSE. Aly claims to be so deeply in love with Asher but decided to deal with taco. Asher claims to be so deeply in love with Amy that he gets engaged to another girl (Like whatt!! 😳🤦) While in every chapter they both are being told that the other loves them by someone. If Aly was ALREADY in line with Asher when he was 16 then why did she turn him down when he made a move. No explanation, nothing, made him feel like she didn't like him that way, didn't care about how he would have felt and then at the same time now at 24 she suddenly expects him to make a move on her again.

TOO MUCH DESCRIPTION. The about of times Toni described their extended family dynamics!!! I don't think anyone could read this book as a standalone. The only thing working for it is the nostalgic value and if someone landed on this book and not notice the previous 5 books in the series, they would have definitely noticed within the first few pages. The over explanation was just too much, maybe it bothers me a bit more because I started this right after bring it on and that's a while other 'only family, no extra charters book'. At least Boon and his mom were new.
TOO OOEY GOOEY. It was too much. Some sweet scenes are for but this book felt like a constant toothache. I would really prefer next gen books to have a new character introduces and the hero/ heroin. This book felt the incest like, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW IT IS NOT!!! It's just that everything if too integrated

NEPOTISM. Another thing that bothers me is that everyone and their son works for the Nashville Assassins. I understand Shelli getting a job, she's the next owner and needs to be groomed for the job. But Jakob is a coach, Lucas is a scout, Posey is an assistant coach with no experience!! (Take a minute and think about it. If Elli and Shea were not her parents would she have gotten the job. However good she is, she could be Einstein of hockey, no average person would have gotten her job, at her age and no experience) and then Asher is working on their jumbotron (now it feels like jobs are being created for the characters as and when required. Asher is supposed to be this genius and suddenly he graduated early just to fix some devices).

This book felt quick and not thought about. This is my issue with next generation books by many authors. The actual plot takes a back seat. No other books have so much parental influence being a part of the story. We see them for a dinner or vacation but unless the parents are the bad guys or add to the plot, they are never do heavily featured. Too much of anything is not good and I would have appreciated their presence much more if Fallon, Lucas, Harper and Jakob were less present in the book.
I'm just disappointed because 'End Game' and 'Juicy Rebound' are really good books with good plot lines AND they are next generation books

Ps- This was me venting my feelings.
I hope on one is offended, it is not my intention.
I really do love Toni's books. This was a fluke.
But I do want to know if anyone shares my opinions, not that I think anyone made it to the end of this essay rant xD

Pps- It's 3:20 am and I'm not re reading this rant so I hope it actually makes sense and I'm not going on circles 😬

Ppps- Do tell me if the ending is really good because I hate leaving books on DNF 😅🤷

She shoots, she scores and here I am writing another review for the new addition to my favorite series of all times. Thank you Toni for publishing yet another amazing book. Spiked by Love is the 6th book of Bellevue Bullies. Since I more than once said Assassins is my all time favorite series, just to clarify I consider all Assassins, Bellevue, New Generation series as a big old Assassins family therefore all books in these series are from my favorite series of all times. Sorry it is impossible to pick just one of them :)

So here is Spiked by Love…

Say hello to Brooks and Titov families :) Allison, aka Ally T., Titov and Asher, aka Ash B., Brooks have been best friends since birth, thanks to their dads being teammates and moms being really close friends. Ally is smart, sweet, beautiful and a firecracker just like her mama. She is in love with the idea of love and I don’t blame her, growing up with two madly in love parents can do that to you. Unfortunately, she always pick the wrong guys or let’s just say she picks guys to stay away from the right one. Since her teenager years she in love with Asher. Being best friends and trying to hide your feelings is a hard job which Ally became a pro at. When Asher decided to go to CA for college, she finally get a chance to breath and not try to keep up the pretense but now after four years Asher is coming back and everything that she kept bottled up will spill all over the place.

Asher, Asher, Asher… To tell you the truth I wasn’t really fan of him before this story thanks to his as*holish behavior in Dump and Chase but by becoming a pirate, he made it out of as*hole category in my eyes :) Ash is smart, nerdy, funny and super hot. He is a guy who loves and needs stability. After a failed engagement, he is back home and he is trying to get his life in order. He is happy to be back and have her best friend with him all the time but sometimes it is hard fight the attraction he is feeling for Ally. Both Ally and Ash are afraid to tell the one another about their crash and risk their friendship. After a punch and a kiss, Ash is in a hard place and him being overanalyzing everything, causes him to react rather slowly. I am not going to ruin the story by spilling everything here, you have to work to get all the juicy details :) But I will tell you this… Lucas and Fallon WTF did you do these boys. First Aiden and now Asher… They are smart guys but if the subject is love they become the dumbest people on earth… But don’t worry, they do come to their sense eventually. Better late than never, right?

Ally T. and Ash B. are amazingly perfect for each other and their story is captivating, funny, sweet and sexy. I am dying to read Emery’s story but since she is one of the younger ones, I think I will be waiting for that a bit so hopefully next in line is Angie Paxton or Stella.

Would I recommend this book: Yes
Would I re-read this book: Yes
Would I read future books by this author: Yes

Asher Brooks and Allison “Ally” Titov have been friends since childhood. With their Nashville Assassin families intertwined, they were always together. Asher has come home after a broken engagement and Ally is happy to have her best friend back. When feelings start becoming a little more friendly, both are a little afraid to tell the other person and ruin their friendship. However, the stars (and broken hearts) have aligned and we are gifted with this Nashville Assassins Next Generation story. I love the fact that these stores can continue with a new generation filled with angst, love and humor. Everyone around Asher and Ally know they are perfect for each other and they can’t understand why they don’t see it. It takes a little accident and some pirate jokes but once the first move is made, there’s no holding back. I feel for Asher as he tried to come to terms with his feelings for Ally. He spent so long convincing himself that it was one sided that it may take him a little longer to come to terms with his feelings. (Much to Ally’s dismay)

This book is filled with pop ins from former Nashville Assassin’s books. Angie Paxton is going to be the next breakout star! Before reading this, I would strongly recommend reading One Timer and Dump and Chase so you can get a little more background info on their recent love and heartbreaks. Plus, they are also awesome books. What I love about this book is usually sports books focus on the male character as the athletic one and in this one Ally is a star setter for the Bellevue Bullies. This book combines two of my favorite things: Volleyball and Toni Aleo. If you haven’t read any of Toni’s books- this is the risk you want to take. This friends to lovers story is well worth it

Toni Aleo gets a win for Spiked by Love (Bellevue Bullies #6). This is Allison Titov's and Asher Brooks' story. Asher is the second oldest son of Lucas and Fallon Brooks from Trying to Score (Nashville Assassins #2). Allison is the daughter of Harper and Jakob Titov from Taking Shots (Nashville Assassins #1) / One Timer (Nashville Assassins #17). Allison and Asher have always been best friends. They could not imagine living without the other. After a kiss, they need to decide if they play it safe and just stay friends, or do they bump up the game. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for new adults.

I loved this story. Asher and Ally are the cutest couple. Everyone knows they belong together, except them. They have some interesting dilemmas that they face. I love that we are introduced to these characters as kids and now read about them as young adults. It makes you feel like you have seen them mature. Asher and Ally have grown up around professional hockey. I enjoyed the perspective of two people that have evolved around the sport but don’t play it; especially Asher, whose father and brother are pretty much legends in the sport. I also, appreciated the jumbotron aspect of the story.

Toni Aleo continues to do a fabulous job with these series. They all feel original. I never feel like I’m reading a cookie-cutter book by her. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I was pulled right into this short story. The story has laughs, friends to lovers, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Boarded by Love (Bellevue Bullies, #1)
Clipped by Love (Bellevue Bullies, #2)
Hooked by Love (Bellevue Bullies, #3)
End Game (Bellevue Bullies, #4)
Changing Lines (Bellevue Bullies #5)

This is Allison and Asher‘s story. Allison has been in love with Asher forever. She has been able to bury her feels as he is halfway across the country. But when he comes back to town it is very hard to avoid him. As they hang out things get heated. One kiss might turn into a great future or will it be the end of them? Can someone finally see what has been in front of them forever? Could these two have a great future or is he still missing his ex and substituting her for someone else?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

5 star Review Spiked by Love (Bellevue Bullies #6) by Toni Aleo

I am relatively new to the Bellevue Bullies series and why that is I have absolutely no idea. I enjoy Toni Aleo’s style of writing and was totally invested in the story that she wove about Allison (Ally) Titov and Asher Brooks. This is a friends to lovers story that will draw you in and hook you from the first chapter.

This was a well written story of lifelong friendship, of love, of taking a chance and a leap of faith. There is drama, banter, spice and a story line that will challenge the very basis of Ally and Asher’s friendship.

Spiked By love is full of love and family. Ally and Asher had to work for their happily ever after and their path to happiness was not as smooth as one might expect. There was a great deal of emotion and love packed into this story. It was also great to see familiar faces pop up whilst reading and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I'm a fan of Mrs. Aleo's and have been for a very very long time. I alway's get excited when I hear that Mrs. Aleo is coming out with a new book. It was no different with this book, so I couldn't wait to dive into this book as soon as it landed on my kindle. Unfortunately that's about where my excitment for this book ends.

We have watched both Ally Titov and Asher Brooks grow up and make something of themselves. We have watched for a couple of books of Ally and Asher's budding romance start. We have watched as Ally and Asher fought their attraction to each other.

Here's the thing as much as I wanted to love and enjoy this book, I just didn't. I kinda of became very bored with it very quickly. It also seemed with every chapter both Ally and Asher's thoughts became very repetitive and had me rolling my eyes at them.

I can only give this book 3.5 Stars out 5!!!

What a Fantastic Friends to Lovers Read Spiked by Love is. Asher Brooks & Ally Titov have known each other their whole lives and have been best friends for most of them, they consider each other their ride or die and will do anything for each other. Everyone knows they should be more but they insist they are only best friends.
You will watch how Asher struggles with wanting more and how Ally is ready to go all in but what you will watch is how everything comes together for them, but you will also see how they will go through some ups and downs to get there.
What I loved is that The Assassins Families are a tight knit bunch and they will all be there for each other no matter the circumstances. But really this book is another winner for Toni Aleo and I hope she never leaves the Assassin World.

Spiked By Love is emotional and absolutely frustrating. These two need to be smacked upside the head violently, in the nicest way possible.

Best friends forever, Ally and Asher have a secret that they have held onto individually for too many years. They have been in denial, fought their feelings, and burried them under 10 feet of rubble. No way that's getting out....and yet somehow (it's the pirate patch) everything comes out.

Between choking on their feelings and their terrible decisions, somehow, they find a way to make everyone happy. Except maybe Aaron, he seemed done with them. Lol.

Buckle up, grab the "oh shit" bar, and watch for spiked volleyballs! It's about to get crazy in here.

I love this series to pieces. This is a book I've been looking forward to. I love a friends to lovers romance so this one is right up my alley. Ally and Asher have been friends since they were young and they're both denying any feelings for one another. They don't want to ruin the friendship that means the world to them. I love watching them slowly see what is right n front of them. This series always makes me laugh and a time like now I could use all the laughs I can get. I love visiting with the families. They're all intertwined and it's truly a beautiful thing. I would highly recommend this one. You're going to be hooked right them beginning and you won't want to put this book down!

Ally and Asher’s parents were best friends so not only did they grow up together they became best friends as well. Ally’s feelings for Asher run much deeper than friendship so when he left to go to college it was a mixed blessing as although she missed him it was hard being around him and not being with him.

Asher has ended his engagement and now that he has finished college he has returned back home. The friendship between he and Ally has picked up like they were never apart but Ally isn’t the only one that has been hiding her feelings. One kiss changes everything and once that line is crossed there is no going back.

Humor, heat and all the feels as two people who have always been meant to be together finally find their way to each other.

I say this time and time again that each new book from Toni is better than the last. There isn’t any book by her that I haven’t liked. She’s my go to author for hockey romance and so much more.

Spiked By Love is a friends to lovers story with emotion and heart. It has some hilarious laughs, a little drama and a lot of sexiness.

For obvious reasons we didn’t see ice time but we still saw court time and you can tell Toni did her research. She didn’t just fudge through volleyball lingo. It’s refreshing when authors do their due diligence.

This book will give you all the feels and put a huge smile on your face. If you love the Assassins like I do then their kiddos won’t be far behind with stealing your heart. I can’t wait for more from Toni in the future.

Allison and Asher have grown up together as their parents are friends. Allison has always had a crush on Asher since she was a teen. She got really good at hiding it while playing volleyball as a distraction. Asher has been away at college but now he's back after his girlfriend left him. A kiss will turn things in Asher's world upside down. Does he keep Allison as a friend or move over into something more?

OMG, this one drove me nuts! I so wanted Asher and Ally to get over themselves and let the other know they wanted more. Then when finally it happened Asher was too much in his head and almost ruined things. The best thing about this one was how all of their friends and family chimed in on things, from the start, before anything changed. The second best thing about this one was Ally's reaction to what happened to Angie. I loved that she didn't stop for one second to doubt her.

*3.75 Stars* ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ ✨ ✨ Pros: I love this world that Toni Aleo created. I thought Asher and Allie's transition from friends to lovers was great and realistic. Their communication skills was also great. They have been friends for so long and knew each so well. Nothing was missing from their connection...expect..Cons: Allie was a little annoying. Especially near the end. She should have known what Asher's love language was and had more patience with him.

I love this spinoff series and the story of Ally & Asher is super-sweet AND smoking hot. Ms Aleo intertwines the stories of her previous novels - so if you've read the others, you'll be anxiously awaiting this one! If not, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! Seriously, you don't have to have read the others in this or the Assassins series, but there are so many characters from the other novels that you should at least read the Bullies series to get the backstory.

Asher & Ally have known each other for most of their lives and they've spent the time since their teens denying the attraction between them. They are best of friends and are anxious about not losing that special connection. I guess that is my main complaint - it just seemed to take a little too long to resolve this. I was so damned frustrated, especially with Asher, about the lack of communication between two people who know each other longer and better than almost anyone else. Please... It was painful to see them screw up by the numbers. I was literally yelling while reading. But when they are on, it is so super heart-meltingly wonderful. When Asher defends Ally from Taco, I thought it was so hot and then the humor when he gets a pirate patch was side-splitting. Asher is not as smooth as some - and his geeky awkwardness only makes him more endearing. The ending was perfect. I am looking forward to more - I am sure we'll be seeing Stella's and Emery's stories and Angie's as well since she's back in Icecat territory. I can’t wait to see the tender stories that are coming our way!

Yet another great book by her. I was looking forward to this book knowing I’d be on vacation and could just read it. Every time I finish one of her books I can’t wait for the next one to come out! This was a very cute story and a very easy read

The parents met in Taking Shots and Trying To Score, so Ally T and Ash B have known each other their whole lives. An emotional friends to lovers sports romance for the next-generation. The Brooks siblings are hilarious and the Assassins family is very meddling and nosey, but they are kind of the best. Emery is going to be a blast when she gets a book, she is SCARY!

This pains me as I am a huge Toni fan but it just felt meh to me. The fact that Asher was engaged to someone he didn't love but always love Ally?!?!?! The story just incomplete to me, so Taco just disappears no charges or the don't bump into each other.
I do like them together is was just painful to read at times 😧

Spiked by Love is the latest addition to Toni Aleo’s Bellevue Bullies series. It was a book that I have been anxiously waiting to read and I was not disappointed.

Allison Titov and Asher Brooks have been best friends since childhood. Their families are as close as can be and they are connected through the Nashville Assassins. Allison is in her last year of college and Asher has moved back to Nashville. While Allison has been in love with Asher for as long as she can remember, Asher is much more hesitant. Will they be able to move on from being strictly friends to something more?

I love reading about the big Assassins family and enjoy seeing how the family matures and grows. This book was a little bit different from the other books because we were introduced to a volleyball team. I enjoyed this change because while I love hockey, I enjoyed getting to read about another sport.

I am giving this book four stars because of the repetitive nature of the writing and the story. The story felt extremely similar to Aleo’s previous book, Dump and Chase, which was about Asher’s brother. Aleo’s writing style was also a bit repetitive throughout especially with certain phrasing such as in her use of, “I feel.” Overall, while these aspects of the book were distracting at times, I did still enjoy the story.

Toni Aleo is one of my favorite authors and I think that she has another good book on her hands with Spiked by Love. Readers are sure to love Allison and Asher and will be rooting for them by the book’s end.

Your heart rate will spike reading Spiked by Love!

Okay so readers all fell in love with Asher Brooks back in Dump and Chase, Aidens book. Asher was the quiet, nerdy younger brother that we were first introduced too, who was way to smart and had a heart of gold. This Asher is all that and more.

Asher has broken up with his Fiancé after finding out she was really a lesbian and is moving back home to get a refreshed start. Only this time he’s bulked up and put on quite a few muscles since the last time we’ve seen him.

Ally Titov we all know from One Timer and from her boyfriend’s name, Nacho? Taquito? Chalupa? Oh that’s right it’s taco. This time we get to see Ally with her head on straight and more focused than ever on what she wants from life. With the exception of one thing or should I say one person?

Now this book is a classic trope of best friends to lovers. And Toni admits that she was nervous doing this book because she didn’t want to fuck it up. Well let me tell you, she had nothing to worry about at all.

For close to half the book we see both Asher and Ally struggle with their feelings for each other. They’ve acknowledged within themselves that the other person is Their Person but both refuse to put themselves out there to be rejected.

After a shocking turn of events that I don’t want to spoil, it definitely woke up Ally enough to finally make a move and see where this thing goes. After the first couple of stumbling blocks they get into a groove and you can see how they were absolutely meant to be together. But it wouldn’t be a Toni Aleo book without a little drama to make one or both parties realize how great they have it or how lucky they are to be with the other person.

Now I can’t not mention Emery or Stella. Those two I cannot freaking wait for their books. I know it’ll be a while at least for Emery and prolly sooner than we think with Stella but those two need their own like novella where they go on a road trip or something.

We get something similar with Asher as we did with Posey. It’s second child syndrome. I’ve officially given it a name. Posey Had a problem with Shelli because she always felt like she was living in her shadow. It was touched on in the book that Asher felt he was inadequate to his dad. I got the sense that he definitely wants to be as close to his dad as Aiden is. I wish this was a conversation between Asher and Lucas. It was never directly addressed or resolved. I know that would’ve been a definite tear jerking scene
