Spreading Her Wings

Rate this book
The tale of Laia, the Butterfly Princess, is a body image parable for children inspiring them to appreciate the uniqueness of their design. Like many children, Laia was born with a distinct physical attribute, and she must learn to overcome fear and fly with confidence. Her continuing story encourages all children to embrace their “marks” from both birth and life.

Readers’ Comments
‘A very sweet story. The writing style is perfect for a picture book of this nature – simple, keeping the story moving. Parents of children with a birth mark might find this book particularly good.’ Male reader (teacher), aged 32
‘You are beautiful just the way you are. A wonderful message for younger children to learn. Possibly a few more wow words needed but other than that, it’s fun, bright and colourful.’ Female reader (teacher), aged 50
‘I liked the butterfly so much. She was pretty. The story was fun too. I understood all of it.’ Girl, aged 7
‘Well-written with a short, well-plotted story. The message is ‘shown’ and not ‘told’ which is excellent. The illustrations jump out and are a joy for children to look at and explore.’ Female reader (parent), aged 39
‘I read this with my teacher. We talked about the message in the book. We both thought it was a good message.’ Boy, aged 7 – with a little help from his teacher
‘Loved this book. Superbly illustrated with a fantastic message for children.’ Male reader (parent), aged 42

To Sum It Up:
‘A superb lesson for younger readers enriched with enchanting illustrations. A FINALIST and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
