An omega locked in a tower, a beta secretly in love, and an alpha prince who isn’t what he seems... who said fairy tales don’t come true?

James is the playboy alpha prince of Ember, whose reputation long precedes him. When he gets into trouble one time too many, the king lays an ultimatum at his feet—get married or be disowned.

Even the fences and laws keeping orphans Rory and Lucas apart can’t stop the love between them. About to be separated forever, a chance encounter with Prince James sees them on their way to the palace for his courtship contest.

James can’t change the law but he can give Rory and Lucas a chance, however brief, to be together. He never expects to find himself tangled up in their relationship. It can’t last—there’s no place for him in a love as perfect as theirs.

When the royal family’s dark past catches up with them, torn between his feelings for Lucas and James, Rory is forced to make a terrible choice...

Bestowed is a novel-length read, featuring a polyamorous romance, a modern-day fairy tale, angst, knotting, mpreg, cake, and happy endings. There are some difficult themes in this story, with allusions to child abuse and neglect. There are scenes not suitable for readers under the age of eighteen.

I thought this to be a really good modern fairytale. I’m not sure I liked it quite as much as I did the first one in the series, but it was good. I liked all three of the MCs. Rory and Lucas were just what James needed in his life and I’m glad after what each of them went through, that they got their HEA. We do get some more answers in this second book of the trilogy but still do not know who the main baddy is. Hopefully, that will be answered in the final book of the trilogy. Overall, an enjoyable book. I’m looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.

After reading book 1 for the third time, I decided to give this another try. I still agree with my 2019 review, that the romance is seriously lacking. I didn't feel a deep love or any passion between the MCs. They slept in the same bed & cuddled, but never wanted more. They were fine with waiting until their wedding night. The two sex scenes were 🥱.

Prince William got married in book 1.

This time Prince James has to find two spouses, after his playboy ways land him in trouble for the last time. Part of his punishment is community service, visiting places to improve his image. At two orphanages (next door to each other), he meets Lucas (a beta), and Rory (an omega). The only reason he gets them in the courtship contest, is so L & R can be together.

James doesn't deserve love or want it.
Up to the 56% mark:
He wasn’t deserving of love. There was an empty crater where a heart should be.
☛ “If I had any say in the matter, I’d stay a bachelor. I’m not the marrying kind, I won’t make anyone happy.”
☛ “Some people don’t deserve happiness,” he said, heaving a sigh. “Some people are destined to be alone.”
☛ Love was for other people. People who deserved it.
☛ I’ll find a way for the two of you to be together. Maybe I can find an alpha who’d enter into an arranged marriage with the two of you.
☛ ...I wouldn’t make a good alpha for either of you. I’d do it to let you be together, but I’m not the person you think I am.”
☛ I’ll do everything in my power to make this marriage happen. If not with me than with an alpha who’ll let you live your own lives. I’m not… I’m not worthy of the love Rory has for me. I wish I was. I wish I was a better man, but I’m not.”
☛ "I’m not the kind of person who can be loved the way you two love each other. Trying to love me… it’ll only make you miserable.”
☛ “What you want, I’m not capable of. I’m broken,

Why He's Broken & Unlovable:

Because of this something, the King ignores him.
Poor James gets no love from his daddy.

🙄 Prince James' Pathetic Love Declaration:
And I… I think… I feel… that I love you too. I don’t expect, or deserve, your love in return. And it doesn’t change anything,

James is more beta than alpha:
He’d dreamed of running away since he was seven years old. But he’d never been brave enough or strong enough to strike out on his own.
☛ “I’m at my father’s mercy, Lucas. He’d never accept it..."
☛ “It doesn’t matter. My family has to come first, and Father will never accept my marriage to two orphans.

The ONLY reason the MCs can be together, is b/c they learn Rory comes from a good family.
☛ It wouldn’t have worked before but now, knowing Rory’s true heritage, I believe we have a chance.
☛ “If you weren’t a Garnet, we’d have no chance of convincing him. But you are, so we do. It’s worth a try.”

The Big Reveal at the End:

They believe is a puppet. Just like William's valet was. The search is on for who's pulling the strings.

94%. James stands up to his father/the King.
While it didn't erase everything that happened, it was good it finally did. Better late than never!

😭 What Made Me Feel:
Lucas' sad backstory of him and his two younger, omega brothers. They were separated and put in orphanages. His two brothers died shortly after, from a deadly virus. It was nice they did the balloon memorial, for Lucas to have closure and say goodbye to them.

Not as good as the first book. While the story was somewhat interesting, the romance was seriously lacking.

James (the alpha) was having too much of a pity party to show interest in either Lucas or Rory. I dnf'd at 46% when James was talking about finding a different alpha for them. I like my alphas to actually act like alphas. James going on and on about how "unworthy" he was, got to be too much.

Also, no character descriptions for anyone! Pretty much no descriptions of anything at all. Use your own imagination because the author certainly isn't using hers. Definitely not good story telling. 👎

Worth a read!

I read the first book to this series so long ago that it was a bit hard to come back in to the world that had been created in the last book. Still, the glimpse we got this time was different, and I appreciated the character building, especially on Rory. I felt like the romance progressed naturally too, which was a plus.

I really would have preferred to see more engagement in the courtship process, since I felt like that was lacking, and some more build up on the tension/villain aspect, since it seemed to come out of nowhere. Still, a good read.

James is absolutely my favorite prince of Ember. I loved this book, I have actually read all three and hands down, this is my fav. James may be one of my favorite bad boys this year.
The trio of Rory, Lucas and James was so sweet. I do wish James had gotten more credit for being such a generous soul. I love this trilogy, and the premise of a triad for each prince. Once again Claire Cullen did not disappoints.

Good addition

I like the progression of the plot for sure ... I also like James,Rory, and Lucas... I still say like the first book it was too long ...I found myself skimming towards the end...just details I really didn't care about...but wonderful story non the less... Off to the final book

It kills me to DNF this. I really want to know what happens but I can’t fucking deal with the weak ass characters anymore. All they do is whine, drown in self loathing “I don’t deserve you”, “If you knew what I’ve done you wouldn’t say that about me” well FUCK tell them what you’ve done and get this pity party over with!! This book, and the first one, depress me so much. Every single character has low self-esteem and it becomes too much after a while.

Knowing this author though, we won’t really know who started this whole conspiracy until like book 4 or 5.

DNF @ 54% . First time fail from Claire. Loved the first one but this just isn’t working for me. Still one of my fave go to Mpreg authors though. Putting this one down to personal disconnect. No rating because of this.

H.O.L.E. 2.5

The sand ceremony at the end—what an amazing idea. So many occasions it could be modified for.

This book had a “Hunger Games” aspect to it. The situation Omegas were in relying on a baker for additional food.

The love story that the Prince provided? The swooping into save the kid Omegas? That part of the story really drew me in.

But....but...in this book, more so than the first, was just too long. A reader could skip chapters and still be able to follow.

Again, the author downplays the sexual aspect. This is a romance even with three men in the bed. If you prefer more tame lovemaking; this book is it.

Another fairytale. Another brother down. Sweet, but verbose.

I found myself really disappointed in this story compared to the first book. Everything felt rushed, important moments were left to our imagination, there was no real angst, there may as well have not been any consort competition at all this go around. The story and the drama resolved too quickly and I found myself skimming the last 50 pages.

Also James’s brothers’ behavior throughout the book just didn’t add up for me. In book one, it was clear to me as the reader that his brothers knew him best. Knew him not to be the party boy he pretended to be. James came across as intelligent and mysterious in book one but the way both his brothers, Alexander especially, acted as if he was no better that the rumors left a bad taste in my mouth.

This book took longer than the first to really show romance between all 3 of them, and while it was nice to see a different side to James and see the "real" him, he was frustrating with how he constantly said he didn't deserve them and would deny his feelings.
What really saved this book was Lucas and Rory - their kind personalities, their connection to each other, their experiences growing up, their falling in love and their interactions with James.

In regards to who might be pulling the strings, it's seeming a little obvious to me at the moment as to who it could be, but i'm hoping i'm wrong and it's someone else we would never think of..

🌟 Such A Beautiful Story!

Another well written take on a fairytale though with so much more depth to it! The blending of tragedies, heartache, and danger make the love story all that much more beautiful and shows a very hard won HEA. I love all the primary characters as well as many of the secondary ones. This one does have some more real life possible triggers but for me was still so worth reading. Excited to read the next book!

I liked this book much better than the first. All three of the MCs had such sad pasts and I'm glad they were able to find happiness with each other.

I did however feel like Rory and Lucas fell for James too suddenly especially when they barely spent time with him or showed any romantic interest in him. Overall, I would've liked to see a more developed and deeper relationship amongst them.

Also, the king is a sorry excuse of a father.

Have your Kleenex ready

The details of this story carry over from the first book. Now, James is the one cornered into getting married. But James has been trying to figure out who tried to kill his brother, Will. Help is on the way from his potential mates, Rory and Lucas. I like that this unfolds into a who-does-it-intrigue story. Is there a third book for Alex?

I'm usually not that keen on alpha/omega stories that aren't shifter stories but this series is amazing and unputdownable! Highly recommended! Am now off to begin book 3 in the series.

3 books in the series and I got them in the bundle, which is great because there is an underlying story that is finally solved at the end of book 3; however, rest assured, each brother gets his HEA at the end of his book.

James is my everything now. I love him with all my heart. I died over the fact that he didn't think he deserved love, and how he was going to use his marriage to give two other people who otherwise never would have had a chance to be together the opportunity at happiness. It killed me how the world saw James as the playboy prince who didn't care about anything, when in reality he saw and cared about everything. And he was spending all his time trying to keep Will and his family safe. I died over him trying to connect the dots and figure out who had it out for the brothers.

Lucas and Rory were both such sweethearts, and I died over their adorable little romance across the fence line of the orphanage and the fact that they had never even spoken to each other before James picked them for his courtship trial. I loved how they finally got to speak and get to know each other, and how close they became and how perfect they were together.

And I loved how they were both also falling for James, even though that hadn't been in anyone's plans. I liked how Lucas was able to help James with figuring out the conspiracy he was trying to root out. I liked all the time Lucas and Rory spent in James' room and how the three of them got to know each other better during that time.

These three were so great together, and I loved everything about them and their story to falling in love with each other. They were all so sweet, and I died over the fact that all three of them had faced assault in their pasts. My heart broke over the way James' cousin had abused him, and how his alpha never looked at him the same way again. I died over the fact that this was was one thing his beta parents ever agreed on and how they took him away until his alpha father promised to send the cousin away. That whole thing completely broke me. And the way Rory was the one to make sure the cousin wasn't at the wedding. I love how Lucas and Rory take care of James as much as he takes care of them.

No Spoilers!
I started reading Bestowed with an expectation to be disappointed or at least I expected to not eenjoy the story as much as I had the first. Often that is the case with the second (or 3rd or more) book in a series. I'm writing this review because I was thrilled by the story in Bestowed. There are three brothers, triplets and the King's sons. The first book was about the 1st prince William, the story of his finding his mates, and a mystery surrounding a nasty assassination attempt on the prince and evidence pointing the blame at one of his mates. BTW, it is royal tradition for a prince to have two mates, one of the mates is an omega. The life of an omega is reduced to 2nd class human and commonly regarded as property.
Bestowed tells the story of the prince, third in line to the throne, finding his mates, and more about the mystery and murderous plots by unknown suspects. No spoilers here. However, this story is excellent and very different from the first in so many ways. It kept me on the edge of my seat and the tips of my toes. Surprises and unexpected events and situations made this a wonderful read. I recommend it, but read the series in order written to have a full understanding and appreciation for great story telling. The romance was good with lots of passion, not as Hot as the 1st book, however not an issue given all the suspense. Enjoy.

Romance and intrigue

The second book in the series really shouldn’t be read as a standalone. The mystery and side plot really is intriguing and you won’t want to miss it. So go get book one and read it quickly! It’s that good. Claire Cullen has been an auto-buy author for quite a long time now. She really digs deep and the results are well developed characters with a large range of emotions. And dang if she doesn’t make me cry once or twice every book. Gah. I love it! James, Rory and Lucas all had traumas in their past. Each one of them have to work through them, but they aren’t alone. They have each other. From the orphanages to the palace, it really was a fairytale.
