Aldred, the dreaded Earl of Acca, is at it again. When the earl discovers a portal that releases a fighting arbor, Aldred rips open the gateway between the after-realms and another world called the Primeval.

After all, how hard can it be to kill a freaking tree? Super hard, as it turns out.

The earl unleashes none other than the Contagion, an uber-evil wizard in tree form. The Contagion rushes into the after-realms, steals life force from innocent children, and then escapes back into the Primeval. No one wants to chase after the cruel wizard, even if destroying the Contagion means healing those lifeless children.

Cue our hero, Lincoln, and his fiancée, Myla.

While everyone else runs away, Myla and Lincoln break into the Primeval with but one hunt down the Contagion. Fun times. Unfortunately, Lincoln and Myla’s only guide is Peli, a trickster monkey who may secretly serve the evil wizard. And that isn’t the only possible treachery in Myla and Lincoln’s lives, either. Powerful forces work to deceive our favorite couple about the very nature of who they are and what they want.

Talk about tricksy.

Trickster (Lincoln Angelbound #3)

"When it comes to fighting, everything's more fun with a battle lion."

03-05: Okay.. okay.. for real though. What does a supernatural white lion named Rufus, an orange monkey wizard named Peli, a human / angel hybrid prince named Lincoln, and a human / angel / demon hybrid warrioress with a dragonscale tail named Myla.. have in common?

You give up?

One PITA Earl of Acca who goes by Aldred. You know the type.. always scheming for more power and more status, yet doesn't really know how to control what he already has. Mostly, he's just a guy with an inferiority complex that thinks having more of everything means he wins.

All right.. fair enough. Usually finishing the competition with more does mean you win.. but in this guy's case, I suspect even winning is losing.

'Trickster' by Christina Bauer is the third book in the Angelbound Lincoln series. It's a rather light-hearted romp through some relatively dangerous situations. Mostly the levity is due to the 'Emergency Snark Response' system (as I like to call them), current Thraxian power couple Lincoln and Myla. He's the prince and heir to the throne of a race of demon hunters.. and she's currently the Great Scala.. the only being who can move souls to Heaven or Hell.

"I haven't updated my demon notebooks in weeks. My father, the archangel Xavier, and I do that together. It's like father-daughter scrapbooking only with demons and death. Good times."

In my head, Aldred is always sort of like Eggman in the Sonic games. Loud and scheming, but also cowardly and worthless.. because his plans are never that well thought out and they always get blown to bits sooner or later. But that fact, along with the fast-paced story and the steady stream of 'uh oh' moments make the books so fun that even though they're kind of silly, you want to keep reading.

None of the characters are what I'd call 'deep,' well.. except in this book.. and that's Peli. Weird, I know. However, the writer knows her stuff. The story is linear, her foreshadowing is possibly overemphasized at times.. yet somehow still slow to reveal itself, and I kind of like seeing Myla sock it to the aristocrats.

"The answer is yes, but I don't reply. Tirade time is not interactive."

Where I think Bauer really excels, especially for a playful YA romance, is the world building. The main world that Lincoln and Myla reside in is a relatively creative build on the obvious theological ideas of Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, and the human realm.. with ghouls, angels, demons, and everything else in between.. making up its citizens.

This time there's also a secondary world. The Primeval is the place that Rufus and Peli both originate from. Them.. and the Contagion. He's the big nasty for this story.. a really nasty wizard in tree form, that Aldred thinks he can make some power gains from.

The Primeval is a pretty ambitious design for such a fun little story. It does have a world tree angle, which I always enjoy if it's done well.. but other than that.. it's split up into 5 segments, represented by 5 diverse races of people.. each with their own beliefs, traditions, fixations, and even vastly different landscapes. But there are things they share too.. some of which cause Lincoln and Myla more trouble than expected.

"Now, I'm prepared for death blows. Back stabs. Throat punches. I've just never had someone all-out donut-grab my boob before."

Overall, it was a really entertaining read. Myla really does have a way with words. If you need something entertaining to get you through a rough mood or to act as a nice easy transitionary story between a couple of heavier titles, definitely pick this one up.

One world that I am addicted to and will always want more of the antics that they get up to . . .

By no means am I saying that you have to go back and read SCALA or even Duty Bound or Lincoln, but that would make you fully appreciate the thoughts and antics of what you will encounter with Lincoln's new book. I found this one to be a great addition to the world of Angelbound.

Add this one to you shelf to read, currently reading, or read. For lovers of YA,NA, Fantasy, Paranormal will find this one a must have and a great addition. This one held lots of laughs expected and unexpected.

Trickster takes place after the book Scala, throwing Myla and Lincoln back to the early days of their relationship before they get married. This was a brand new, incredibly fun and unique adventure with portals to other dimensions, a trickster orange monkey, boob grabbing bird kings, a scheming Aldred (who just so happens to be the most bumbling villain I hate the most!), delicious terrible Demon bars, epic battles, an angry people eating tree, lesson in manners and proper decorum, inappropriate shrines to the great Scala, some more scheming by all characters, impossible odds and basically saving the day. Whew, that is a lot of random components that the author somehow gets to work together to create another super fun adventure where I never know what will happen next. The one downside to this adventure is that I already know the future for my beloved couple since this story is written out of order, so there was not so much suspense or tension since I already know how the overall outcome will happen. But I still enjoyed the book immensely and I love having dual narration from Myla and Lincoln, which this is the first time I have had that!

“Am I touching anything?” I ask.
Obadiah scans the floor and walls. The servant looks right through Peli and his hovering book-pile. “Ah, you’re empty handed. I didn’t expect that.”
“If you’ll excuse us,” I say. “Peli and I have places to be.”
“Of course, your Highness… and his pretend monkey.”

Can we just spend a minute talking about the gorgeousness that is this cover? Wow, is Lincoln so very pretty! I have always crushed on him when reading the series because he is perfect book boyfriend material, but this cover cements my love of Lincoln. Ok, tangent over. Expect hilarious, random encounters, tons of action and the best romance found in all the realms. I am a super fan of this series and recommend it to anyone who loves supernatural, battles between good and evil, and ridiculous scenarios that you can't help but laugh at. Myla will always be my favorite quasi-demon and Lincoln is completely crush worthy.

“I’ve been keeping tally for you.”
My heart melts. “Aw, thanks.”
Knowing Lincoln, he’s probably recorded all the battle details, too. Perfect. I haven’t updated my demon notebooks in weeks. My father, the archangel Xavier, and I do that together. It’s like father-daughter scrapbooking only with demons and death. Good times

This is the first YA book I’ve read in a good while and really enjoyed it! It was snarky, action filled, had great world building, was a little silly, sometimes serious, and the main couple was very likable! Lincoln had the calm, while Myla was the storm, but they fit well together.

I can never resist a Myla and Lincoln book! I love love love these two together and just fit so well together. It's awesome to see things that Myla does through Lincoln's eyes and vice versa. Peli was a fun character to get to know and of course, the Earl of Acca is always a fun adversary. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, you won't want to miss this one!!

I love this series and these books, but sadly this one I thought wasn’t quite as good as previous books, it seemed to lack a certain spark the other books have had. It’s still an enjoyable read overall, but just seemed a bit less magical

Mein Fazit:
Einfach drauf einlassen und Spaß haben. Von mir gibt es gern eine Leseempfehlung!

Angelbound: Trickster – Christina Bauer

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher in order to provide an honest review.

Christina Bauer is an American author who writes many fantasy stories. Besides the “Angelbound Offspring” series she has also written the “Pixieland Diaries” and the “Beholder” series plus many more.

Yet again, this story focuses on the young couple, Prince Lincoln of the Thrax and Myla Lewis – the new great Scala Heir.

As they are trying to settling into their new lives, a little trickster, namely a magical orange monkey – ropes them into a scheme of his. But it is for a good cause – to stop an evil magical tree known as the Contagion from killing his loved ones, his lands and of course Lincoln and Myla’s world.

But as usual Aldred, the earl of Acca. Is sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong and stirring up trouble for Lincoln and Myla. Seriously when will that guy ever get the message.

So now Lincoln and Myla must together, while being guided by a magical trickster monkey, stop the Contagion but also find a way to thwart Aldred’s plans once again.

“Trickster” is a short fantasy tale that is a cheeky and delicious read. It’s a book, and a series, I think many YA readers would enjoy. Lincoln and Myla are just like any other typical young couple, minus the whole magic, angel and demon elements of course. Though the story is short the author is able to engage the reader with writing relatable characters and having a storyline that instantly grabs the reader's attention.

Aldred has a new plan. He plans to open a portal to a world called the Primeval to release an arbor. All he needs to do is kill a tree. But this isn’t any tree; it is the Contagion (an evil wizard). Now that the wizard is loose, he travels through the portal and steals the life force of children. Someone needs to go after him. This is where Lincoln and Myla enter the story. This duo is used to fighting together, but neither knows anything about the Primeval. Peli may be willing to help them along the way, but since he is a trickster monkey, the fun is just beginning. What new forces will this couple need to face in this latest fight?

Trickster is the third book in the Angelbound Lincoln series. Bauer explains before the story begins that this book happens before many of the books already released, but she was able to write it without spoilers if you are reading it out of order (or as a standalone). This adventure is told in the alternating voices of Lincoln and Myla, so readers will know more about what is occurring then either character separately. This story is full of fighting and backstabbing. Also, since Myla and Lincoln are still dating, they have a lot of physical tension they are dealing with. Although you can read this as a standalone, I suggest all readers at least start with the first Angelbound Lincoln book.

So a Loki by any other name is a Trickster, but here, not necessarily by nature.
This story continues with Lincoln's world view and adventures and says more about his soldier mentality and the way the medieval knight thought about the world and their role in it.
We reprise his meetings with the Myla after she becomes the Scala and move on into their joint adventures before their marriage - which leads to a certain amount of sexual frustration - which may also lead to a certain amount of demonstration of virility in the fighting arena!
I like nearly all of the books in this series, but find these books about the early years less interesting, although I did like the Lion and his 'pretend' fight with Lincoln.
Nonetheless, even if Bauer does write the books out of chronological order, as they cover elements of the story we have not heard about before, they do link in. The writing style remains good and again a fun YA read.

A disappointing book

- This book was provided to me as an ARC by NetGalley -

I'm sorry to say that I did not enjoy this book. I mean, the last one wasn't it, but this one was worse. I thought it would be better because I wouldn't always be in Lincoln's head, but as it turns out, I don't like being in Myla's head either. The story was boring and extremely repetitive. The two characters are way too similar and I really didn't connect with them. The villain was ridiculous and I still don't get why he did what he did. I have to admit that the universe is pretty creative, but it's about as much good things I can say about this book. I had to force myself to finish it and only the very short chapters helped me because I felt like I was going through it faster.

I'm really sorry, but it definitely wasn't for me...

IThe third installment of the Prince of the Thrax Lincoln. This feels like a good coming of age story for Lincoln and Myla especially for their relationship. Now engaged the couple faces trouble from the Earl of Acca who decides to test Myla's suitability as future Queen. Teaming up with a magic monkey Peli the Earl takes them to another world where he plans to steal Myla's magic and life to make himself all powerful. The only problem is that Peli is a trickster and we don't really know whether to trust him or not. Lincoln and Myla must trust each other as they fight for their relationship and realise that they don't need to change to please others. Will they finally defeat the Earl? Will Myla be accepted? Will they survive? Whose side is that little trickster really on?

Looking forward to the next instalment in Baculum

I'd love to spend just one day inside Christina's imagination...but I guess that's what I get to do every time I read one of her books! ;) ;) And how could I NOT be excited to read the next installment in her Angelbound series??

I just adore Lincoln. He and Myla go together like peanut butter and jelly. <3 <3 <3 Peli was a super trixsy monkey. He kind of reminded me of the fabled Chinese Monkey King. Then there was that evil Earl of Acca (always a good villain), sentient fighting trees and so much more. Lincoln and Myla had to stay on their toes making the adventure and fun good all around. I just loved it all and you will too! Get your copy now!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow. This was another wild adventure featuring Lincoln and Myla. Contagion is quite the adversary, and the form he takes is so odd and unique, yet Bauer manages to make it completely believable (even I have limits to my suspension of disbelief, but she managed to stay inside those limits). The story moves along quickly and smoothly, and I enjoyed following along as Lincoln and Myla faced down this latest challenge. There were a few twists, which kept things interesting, and made it hard to put the book down. Packed with adventure, danger, and unique characters, this was a great third installment, and I’m looking forward to book four!

Trickster by Christina Bauer.
Angelbound Buchreihe 4.

I adore this couple, this world and seeing things through Lincoln's eyes! Myla and Lincoln have had my heart from the very start of their adventures and nothing at all is easy or simple in their world - except their love.

Walking around in what amounts to Ms. Bauer's imagination every time I pick up one of her stories is just the best! If you aren't reading this series, you should be!

Can we 3-D print a Lincoln or ten? They'd be GREAT swag items.

Welcome to Angelbound, where the people are beautiful and the fantasy runs hot. Christina Bauer has given us a world full of characters that keep us turning those pages long after lights out....good thing my new kindle has a long battery life. This story even includes a new villian supported by a team of sentinent trees. Angelbound is just one of Bauer's series. You cannot go wrong by diving into any of them. Just finished reading the wonderful Trickster, where we follow Lincoln & Myla to battle the one known as Contagion.
In this book we get to hear the voices of both our main characters, seeing things from their perspective and the experiences both have.
We get to see the relationship between Lincoln and Myla deepen. Already looking forward to the next instalment.

I love these books and I really enjoy having both characters points of view. I just love this mischievous couple they seem to cause as much trouble as they fix. I definitely recommend this book and this series. The book is very well written and the characters are very lovable or hateable depending on who it is I seriously wanted to stab Alfred and his daughter myself.

Myla and Lincoln are one of my all-time favorite characters and I love reading more about them. They just fit together so well, dialogs are hilarious, the action is non stop & it's always all pure awesomeness. :)

Trickster is set between books 2 and 3 in Angebound series and tells the story *mostly* from Lincoln's point of view. It's the third book in Lincoln's series and I've been really enjoying his own series. He is even more awesome when you're in his head. :)

I seriously disliked Earl of Acca before, but in this book, he is just insufferable. :) He made a life a hell of a lot harder for Lincoln and Myla. He opens a gateway to other worlds and releases a new kind of evil, that is almost unbeatable.

I love the setting, it a bit different and writing, it's sooo addicting.

Highly recommend it!!! :)

The Earl of Acca has discovered a portal to another world called the Primeval and as everyone probably knows that opening a door to another world is not a good idea. When the Earl opens this door way he unleashes a very evil wizard who steals the life-force from little children. This evil force/Contagion comes through as a tree.

This evil force is so powerful that no one is brave enough to go after the wizard even if it means saving their children. Well no one but two of our favorite characters of all time Prince Lincoln and his girlfriend the Great Scala, Myla Lewis. Lincoln is the High Prince of Thrax and part-angel and Myla is a quasi-demon.

The only way to stop this wizard is to cross over into the land of Primeval and chase down this evil force of nature. Myla has the help of an invisible little friend Peli, a trickster monkey. Peli is helping Myla look for the wizard but his intensions may not be what they seem on the surface. Can this little monkey be trusted? Well just knowing that he is a trickster monkey kind of says it all, does it not?

Peli says he is helping Myla but I am not so sure with some of the things that he does like when he takes Myla on these little journeys in slumber land or dream world. What is he up to? Is he really trying to help her? What is the purpose or connection?

I love getting points of view from both Lincoln and Myla. I like seeing the world through the character's eyes. I like getting inside their heads and seeing the world from their point. Lincoln is a very strong and powerful man but he can be soft when it comes to Myla. He will protect her and keep her safe no matter what the cost may be to him.

But Myla is a strong and powerful person herself. Myla has fought in the arena numerous times. She is not afraid to go up against most any demon or ghoul. Myla is a strong woman that doesn't need a man to take care of her well except Lincoln or so I imagine that is what she lets him believe. Haha…

Oh man I just love this world the Angelbound world and can't ever seem to get enough of it and once I pick up a book in this world I know not to make any plans and know that I need to set aside the whole day for reading because I am not going to lay it down until I have turned the last page with all the adventure and the exciting journey that Lincoln and Myla takes me on. Once I emerge myself in one of the books in the Angelbound world I know I am not going to see daylight again until I have reached the end of the story.

The world building is so grand and just seems to get better and better with each book. I wish I could find the words to actually say how I really and truly enjoy or feel about the Angelbound worlds and the characters too of course and let's not forget the tail as you have to "respect the tail" always.

As always I do highly recommend Trickster as well as all the Angelbound books to all fans of demons, ghouls, angels, monsters, and now tricksters. One click your copy of Trickster today to begin another exciting journey into Lincoln and Myla's world.

********** Contain Some Spoilers**********

I rated this book 4.5 Stars, so I rounded it up to 5 Stars. I enjoyed this book, but it was kind of out there. Man, everyone is wanting a piece of Myla during this book, and they want her to act a certain way. Octavia annoyed me a bit during this book. Yes, Myla’s going to eventually rule the Thrax/Antrum beside Lincoln but she shouldn’t be expected to act a certain way, considering it would change her whole personality. She also spoke down to Myla like she couldn’t understand something because of her age. I’m glad Lincoln told everyone to stop with the ridiculous trials, as Myla doesn’t need to change, as he loves her how she is. She’s a dominant kick a*se demon fighter, who cares if she’s now the Great Scala it’s who she is. Aldred, the Earl of Acca is still a power hungry a*sehole.

Aldred ends up opening a portal to another world called Primeval, as he wants to show off his fighting skills against the Contagion, a Uber evil wizard (he believes it would be an easy kill) but the Contagion races through the portal and steals the life force from some Thrax before racing back to the portal. No one else wants to help but Lincoln and Myla know that destroying the Contagion can heal those frozen victims, so Myla and Lincoln with the help of their guide Peli, a trickster monkey. Wow, all I can is Primeval’s inhabitants all tried to get something from Myla even though Myla and Lincoln were there to try and protect the marked ones and get rid of the Contagion. The way Primeval’s works is that a boon is granted and a boon is returned. I’m looking forward to reading the next book, and seeing what danger is headed Lincoln and Myla’s way next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

Christina Bauer brings a whole new slew of characters into play in Trickster.

Once again this book, the third in the Angelbound: Lincoln series, is filled with action, wittisms, and the foundation of what makes Lincoln and Myla that battle couple to root for. We face a familiar enemy, but I was curious where this enemy was going in their plan for domination. There is some satisfaction in this quarter, but it is minor (chuckle).

Trickster is a fun romp featuring my favorite battle couple. I can’t wait for the next one.

I received a free copy of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
