Life was almost perfect for Sujata Sharma, a professor in AIIMS, with every best-laid plan in place. She had been deeply involved with research and teaching, with an active family and social life, pursuing physical fitness. In just seven days, she found herself away from home, checked into a hospital, facing an uncertain future with a rare autoimmune disease, Guillain Barre Syndrome, which rendered her almost paralyzed. The road back towards recovery was long and uphill. With the help of her doctors, family and colleagues, she started her journey from the grip of the deadly disease, which ended spectacularly with her finally winning a trophy with her departmental team in the first-ever ‘AIIMS Got talent’. In her quest towards discovering inner strength, she found her life’s purpose to be similar to a dragonfly’s purpose, which is to live fully in the moment and perform to its best ability despite the limitations that are imposed by destiny.
It's a book of hope, strength and inspiration. What gave me goosebumps was that it's a real story and not a figment of imagination helping us understand a rare disease called GBS. It's written in a very simple language and defines what this syndrome is, how it effects the patient, from early symptoms to its treatment everything is shared & is really informative. It's an eye opener & showed us how we take many things in our life for granted & how we keep on planning n leaving things for future as if a healthy future is guaranteed. I admire Sujata maam & her family, friends & colleagues, for the way they battled GBS together. The sacrifice that Alma made, mother-son bond, a supportive husband, caring colleagues & the way Sujata ma'am struggled with the new situation she found herself in, from a workaholic to being depend on others to secretive practice session, they all are an inspiration to me. I would highly recommend this book as its capable of bring motivation in your life & appreciating all the things you take for granted. Pictures at the end was bonus content for me. Loved them. Coming from a person who actually lived this herself, this truly left an impact on me.

Some writers are wonderful storytellers. They make seemingly simple/clichéd/totally-out-of-genre stories so interesting!
Just finished 'A Dragonfly's Purpose' by Dr. Sujata Sharma. It's a memoir {about Guillain Barré Syndrome}, totally out of my genre. But I really liked it. Just the last chapter ___it reflects Dr. Sujata's incredible willpower, yes, but you somehow know what's going to happen, maybe that's why it seemed a little stretched.
A quick, engrossing, enlightening & inspiring {without being preachy} read! I really like Dr. Sujata's writing style. It keeps you hooked.
A Dragonfly's Purpose by Sujata Sharma Book Review: Have you ever imagined what it takes for a Dragonfly to do all the fly that it does? Yes, you might say me that the dragonfly is a light creature with wings so that it can play it's part of flying. At times because of the nature 's ways sometimes it may become deemed to be as a frail, little creature only made to remain and exist in the world because the almighty wanted a sweet and beautiful creature. But, what is a Dragonfly's purpose to fly? Well, that is not quite known that why it was made as an insect who can fly because already we have a lot of winged creatures. I am speaking about all these issues here and also tempting you to think about these things meticulously and carefully because what I will now be going to share with you might leave you a lot more baffled as already the contrasting title image of the book has done to you where a woman with wings is on a dancing posture but on the other hand she is sitting on a wheelchair. How can both these be possible? Well, this can be possible because this is life and the most unexplainable of things happen here. Have you ever heard of the name of a disease known as the Guillain Barre Syndrome? Isn't it sounding like Braille? People might now question me what has Braille do with here? And it is never a syndrome. Yes, it is absolutely right. The name might sound intimidating and also incredulous at the same time, as the author too had felt when she first heard about it, but this is one of the most deadliest and dangerous of diseases that only happen to the most unfortunate of people living in this world and will everyday threaten you to kill you and if not properly attended or taken care of, this disease will be successful in killing you. As the author kept herself casual and unharmed from the outside, during those moments each time inside her anxiety became such that it threatened to destroy to basic roots upon which she forever belong to. This is the story of a woman, a mother, a doctor, and a professor of AIIMS just like many present amongst us who one fine day started feeling pins and needles around her legs and hands and from there everything that might be more worst started. The syndrome took place unknowingly and then there remained no point to turn back. From that point her and her family's struggles begin that forms the crux of this autobiography leading to her slow, but steady journey towards healing, a recovery that almost seemed to never come but the author gathered all her strengths to reinvigorate into her once known own and zealous life, to breathe well into the essences of life and absorb the magical powers of the sun. Most parts of the book may feel sad to you but it is a kind of Helen Keller story where a dancer losses all her hopes thinking that she might never gracefully move again because her body was slowly turning into a non-living, numb burden to bear to her own self. One of the most positive parts in this book is the relationship that the author shares with her husband and children, her pillars of strength, the correct companion who are always supportive and kind. This book has also asserted the fact that how important Doctor's are to this society and if one is ill, the whole community dedicates to their brethren's wellbeing and jumps giving everything to cure him or her. Doctors are an ever positive force. This is a story where a woman later as mentioned in the book will forever start teaching girls the importance of strength in women. For the author, this experience was one where she learned the consciousness of the patients position because she had to switch positions with them while she faced a deadly disorder, making her evermore an invincible and superior being. The title signifies that a human body cannot be stopped to being a light winged, feathering dragonfly because of a disorder that will forever bind them to be wheelchair bound! The best book in the world of medical non- fictions, this work is a must read for readers of all ages so that they can learn the strength of humanity.
This book was a short yet incredibly powerful read. It had me sobbing and rooting for Sujata through every step of her journey. Her story is written so beautifully and so honestly, and I especially loved the bond she shares with her daughter. That relationship added so much heart and warmth to the entire book.
Lines like “Birthdays had always held a special place in my heart. They weren't just about marking one year down; they were about celebrating the chapters already lived and the ones still waiting to be written” stayed with me long after I put the book down. The way Sujata finds meaning not in grand moments but in everyday life, “That's the rhythm of everyday life, carried forward not by grand moments, but by small, familiar annoyances that keep us grounded and, in some strange way, comforted,” is what makes this story feel so intimate and real.
Seeing someone who was once healthy suddenly have their whole life turned upside down was deeply moving. When she writes, “This is life. Not the big milestones or ceremonies. This! These fragile, unnoticed breaths we carry within us,” it really puts into perspective how fragile and precious life is. I found Sujata unbelievably brave, especially when she admits, “I didn’t want pity or concern. I wanted to be seen the way I had always been: strong, tireless, and invincible.” There were moments that completely broke me, especially when hope itself becomes heavy: “By now, I was tired of hope. Tired of telling myself that tomorrow would be better. Tired of smiling when I wanted was to weep like a frightened child.” And yet, even then, “Tomorrow” still carries weight, the possibility of healing, or at least of survival.
What moved me most was her honesty in accepting what was happening: “It had already happened. And no amount of denial would change that. I had to stop pretending this was temporary, or reversible.” That surrender isn’t weakness; it’s courage.
By the end, when she reflects, “I wasn't healed—not yet—but I was hopeful. I was heading home. I knew my life wouldn't return to what it once was, but at least I had a life to return to,” I felt both her grief and her quiet victory. “The woman who had entered this room days ago no longer existed,” and yet the woman walking out was stronger, reshaped, deeper.
And finally, the dragonfly metaphor is what makes this book unforgettable for me. A dragonfly does not brood over its worth. It does not ask if its flight matters. It flies because it must. That idea, to stop questioning, stop comparing, and simply live, is the soul of this book.
This is a story of strength, resilience, bravery, and hope. It’s emotional, raw, reflective, and quietly powerful, and I’m so grateful I read it.

A Dragonfly's Purpose is the autobiography of Dr. Sujata Sharma, professor in the Department of Biophysics at AIIMS , New Delhi. This book shows the beauty of hope and resilience, it also makes us realise the fragility of life and how everything can change in the blink of an eye.
When the tiredness that the author was assuming to be post viral weakness turned out to be Guillain - Barré Syndrome (GBS), it was a turning point in her life. Everything was going perfectly in her life, so she couldn't help but ask why? Why this has to happen to her?
The book is divided into two parts, the first part is about the realization that the author is suffering from GBS and the second part is about the recovery and finding meaning in this experience. The whole book is quite influential, the author's writing not only tapped into my emotions but also made me think.
There are two chapters which deserve a special mention, they are An Epiphany and A Dragonfly's purpose. These chapters contain the essence of this book. I loved reading this book, it has inspired me and also given many points to contemplate.
A Dragonfly’s Purpose reads like a quiet conversation with life when it suddenly asks you to pause. Written with grace and emotional honesty, the book captures what it means to lose control over one’s body and slowly learn to live, feel and hope again. Dr. Sujata Sharma’s writing is tender, observant and deeply human. Despite the gravity of illness, the tone never turns bleak, instead it carries warmth, humour and resilience in equal measure.
What makes this book especially moving is how it blurs the line between memoir and reflective storytelling. The narrative focuses less on medical detail and more on the inner shifts that illness brings, the fear, the stillness, the vulnerability and the rediscovery of purpose in unexpected forms. There is a quiet strength in the way the author observes her own transformation, allowing readers to sit with discomfort without rushing toward easy optimism.
My key takeaways • Healing is as much emotional as it is physical. • Stillness can become a teacher when life forces us to stop. • Purpose doesn’t disappear in crisis, it changes shape. • Humour and tenderness can coexist with pain.
The dragonfly becomes a powerful metaphor fragile yet resilient, fleeting yet purposeful. It reflects the idea that meaning often appears in brief, delicate moments, especially during uncertainty.
Ideal for readers who appreciate memoirs, illness narratives, reflective nonfiction and stories about resilience and rediscovery.
A gentle, luminous read that reminds you that even disrupted lives carry beauty and intention.
Stories where life takes an unexpected turn affects at a totally different level. This is one such story where the character has to tread on unknown paths and her only companions are resilience and courage.
When the protagonist of the novel gets diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome, her whole world shatters before her and her systems in place fail. From her personal life to her professional life , all take a hit. But what begins as a life altering story becomes a story of self discovery.
This story captures the emotional upheaval of a person who gets diagnosed with an unanticipated rare disease. From denial to disappointment to acceptance, the journey of the protagonist is realistic. The simplicity of the story telling does not exaggerate the thought process of the protagonist but depicts a grounded version of her journey. The change in mindset and the gradual self reexamination makes this story impactful and inspirational. There is an honesty and vulnerability in the narration which connects with the reader.
The author has not tried to paint a happy picture but portrayed the practical aspect of dealing with such events. The loss of hope and dreams and the disruption of normal life , the author shares it all. The creation of a new life where the disease is a constant companion gives rise to the title of the story.
Overall, this is a moving story with an optimistic end which puts forth a journey faced by many. A journey which should be appreciated and supported by all.
A Dragonfly's Purpose by Sujata Sharma is a beautiful, heartbreaking, and also inspiring memoir that feels like you are reading the courageous story of an amazing woman.
Throughout the book, the author showcases her powerful narration and storytelling method, which will keep you hooked until the very end, even though it is a memoir. She gives us the full story from the very beginning—the very first day she experiences her initial symptoms—and how she discovers her condition, step by step.
The author conveys every raw feeling she experiences, as well as those of the people around her, capturing their emotions and fears in the moment. She also shows how it takes everything she and her family have to not lose courage and to keep fighting this rare disease.
The first thing I liked about the book is the introduction to this rare disease, Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), where the author provides a full picture of it. Then, her portrayal of anxiety, depression, fear, gaining strength, and finding inspiration is so well done that you will feel the lines in your heart.
Another notable part is how, at the very beginning of the book, the author shows us how life gives many hints before a disaster happens, and it is up to us to notice them. Lastly, using the dragonfly as a metaphor for her journey makes it intriguing and fascinating.
Overall, I want every reader to read this book—to gain inspiration, to understand the importance of this beautiful life, and to learn how we should appreciate it. I highly recommend it.

✨FINAL CALL: A doctor who used to lead very healthy lifestyle and now unable to stand and carry out the activities due to the severe pain. Loved reading short and crisp yet insightful read.
Some books demand attention. This one asks for presence. A Dragonfly’s Purpose is a quiet, deeply moving memoir that unfolds with honesty and restraint. It does not rely on drama or exaggerated emotion. Instead, it draws you in through its sincerity, making you feel like you are sitting beside the author as she navigates illness, fear, and an unfamiliar version of life. What stayed with me was how real everything felt. The exhaustion, the uncertainty, the moments of resistance and surrender are written without polish. There is no attempt to turn pain into something inspirational for the sake of it. The strength in this book comes from acknowledging how heavy hope itself can sometimes feel. The writing is simple, almost conversational, yet layered with meaning. There were passages that made me pause and reflect on how much of life is carried in small, unnoticed moments rather than big milestones. The presence of love, family, and quiet support runs gently through the narrative, grounding the story in warmth even when things feel dark. This book does not rush you. It gives you space to feel, to reflect, and to sit with uncomfortable truths. By the end, I felt a sense of calm and perspective rather than closure. It reminded me that survival itself can be a form of purpose, and that choosing to keep going is sometimes the bravest act. A Dragonfly’s Purpose is tender, honest, and quietly powerful. I am grateful I took my time with it.
🍃This story revolves around the protagonist, Sujata Sharma who is the author of this book itself.
🍃She was living a perfect life with a balance of family, career and social life.
🍃But suddenly one day, she was diagnosed with a deadly disease of Guillain Barre Syndrome.
🍃The path to her recovery was tough and tortous, but with the support of her family, friends, the doctors and with her level of strong will power and determination, nothing was really impossible.
🍃And finally she managed to fight and win over this deadly disease and ultimately recovered from it.
🍃But in this uphill journey to the recovery, she found the very core purpose of her life.
🌸My take on the story -
🪶The author has portrayed her journey so elaborately in a raw form which must have been difficult for her ofcourse, as it was a totally personal experience. This needs true courage and it should be aprreciated.
🪶The narration of the book is smooth with a free flowing story line. The language used in the book is lucid and easily comprehensible.
🪶Also I like the fact how author discovered the real purpose of her life on such a difficult journey of recovery from the grip of a deadly disorder.
🎀Rating - 4/5⭐
❤️Overall it's a decent read with a good storyline. An aprreciable attempt by the author.
It seems like a very long time has passed since I have read something so beautiful that it surpasses every other beauty. I am not even exaggerating here, it is so true. This book is an eye-opener for not just me but everyone out there. The way the author has developed the plot, the characters and the struggles she has to face when diagnosed with GBS is amazing. What happened to her was extremely bad. The pain, that sorrow, those difficult days, I would not want anyone to go through those. The author indeed makes us realise how important it is to be optimistic about things. How we should have faith in ourselves and accept the new normal. It's like changing ourselves and accepting the situation we are in for our good because we can't change our situation. The author is indeed a warrior and a very brave one at it. (though all warriors are brave there is something different about the author.) This book tells us how important it is to be kind to ourselves and others. How we shouldn't take anyone or anything for granted and be grateful for having those things and people in our lives. Be just a little kind to everyone and especially to yourself. Appreciate small things in life and see what wonders it does. The short information on Dragonfly was beautiful too. I love the book! It's a wonderful read. I recommend it to everyone.
"A Dragonfly's purpose" by sujata sharma is memoir on author's journey . She convey's her inner feelings and experiences in a very transparent manner. I like the title of the book which symbolizes adapatability and transformation into every situations of life.
There is lot of things to grab from her journey right from how she deals with a rare disease, And how she managed to survive through the early days and the recovery process, nd the role of her family , friends and collegues.
Medical healing is the process of immense will power and constant support . I feel connected to it throughout the book . A perfect medicalmemoir which is lay down lots of inspiration and motivation for others.
The language of the book is lucid and remarkable with wonderful usage of vocabulary. To be honest I havent read many medical non -fiction book. But after reading this one , I would love to explore more.
While reading this book , It took me back to those days, when I was sufferring from jaundice and face one of the worst phase of my life. But after reading this memoir you will have that positive energy to fight your all battles and emerge as a winner once again.
Overall I really enjoyed reading this heart touching medical memoir . And if you want to experience the author's journey of recovery from a deadly disease then do pick up your copy now.
People talk about how hard life is and the rollercoaster it perceives when we are forced into a situation of not our making, but what about uncertainties like health situations which surface unexpectedly with no way out, making your world split into before and after, how do we really find hope to keep going despite external help? This book throws some light on these situations in a very gut wrenching way I couldn't stop tearing up at so many moments.
For context, this book follows the author's inspiring life which comes to a halt when she is struck by Guillain-Barré Syndrome, which is life changing. The story flows on to her inspiring journey to keep going, encountering situations broaching onto the concept of relearning physically with mental setbacks, taking into context of an average Indian woman who is always ingrained to be the doer without asking for help.
This was a beautiful book to read period. I give it 5 stars right away.
This book stems into all the feelings a person goes through when it happens, so yes, it's a very raw yet fulfilling read nudging the reader to introspect and also give back hope to keep going.
For me, this book went in deeper, being a health survivor myself (still in progress), and books have really saved my life, so I was really happy that I got to read such a beautiful book following my intentions of keeping my account as an outlet to give back the love and energy I receive when I read such inspiring books.
A Dragonfly’s Purpose is a gentle and reflective book that focuses on self-discovery and quiet transformations. This book can truly change the way you look at life. I really liked the book cover, and the author’s use of the dragonfly as a symbol is very powerful. It represents change, finding oneself, whether life is simple or full of challenges. One of the best things about this book is its simplicity. The language is clear, easy, and sensible. Through this book, Sujata ma’am explains a rare disease and shares how she struggled and fought to come out of it.
Another beautiful part of the book is the support she received from her family. Alma’s faith that her mother would get better, the strong bond between mother and son, and the constant support of her husband Naval are very touching. These relationships give the story warmth and strength.
The most inspiring thing about this book is that it is a real-life story. Sujata ma’am has explained her journey through this difficult phase in a very easy and honest way. Through this book, she gives a strong message: no matter how difficult the situation is, we should never give up, never lose our confidence, and always believe that with courage and hope, difficulties can become easier.
A Dragonfly’s Purpose is a deeply emotional and inspiring book that talks about pain, healing and choosing life even when everything feels dark. . This book is not loud or dramatic instead it quietly stays with you, just like real emotions do. . The story follows a woman who faces serious illness, fear and uncertainty. Through her journey the author shows how fragile life can be yet how strong the human spirit truly is. . This book feels very personal almost like reading someone’s diary. The emotions feel real, raw and honest. What stands out the most is the theme of hope. Even in moments filled with darkness, the book gently reminded me that light still exists. Chapters like “Saying Yes to Life” and “Goodbye, Sun. Hello, Darkness” reflect inner battles that many people silently go through. I found comfort in knowing that i am not alone in their struggles. The writing style is simple and heartfelt, making it easy to read even when the topics are heavy. This is a book that doesn’t rushed me . It asks me to pause, feel and reflect. All in all.... A Dragonfly’s Purpose is a beautiful reminder that survival itself can be a purpose, and sometimes, just choosing to live is the bravest act of all.
Imagine that you’re brushing your teeth, taking a bath and getting ready – sounds simple, doesn’t it? As easy as that sounds, we have little to no realisation how much impact it would have on our lives if we’re unable to perform even small routine tasks. A Dragonfly’s Purpose by Sujata Sharma is one such heartfelt read that makes the readers realise how important every moment of life is and how little we appreciate it.
Sujata, the author herself and being the protagonist works her normal life at AIIMS when she is stung by GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome) and her life turns upside down. Fighting her inner battles and being a strong headed woman, she realises how much she had taken her life for granted and how she needs to enjoy every moment. I am impressed by her firm determination and her will power! Even after being literally eaten up from inside, she doesn’t leave out any chance to pour her love onto her children, Alma and Sujata.
Illnesses come and go but in Sujata’s case, it made her stronger, changed her perspective and taught her so much. Not just her, this book teaches us readers to not only to be grateful for the way we can carry ourselves everyday but also for staying strong and firm no matter what!
A Dragonfly's Purpose is a highly emotional and touching story recounting the themes of Disease, Life, Death, and the Power that Vanquishes all. Through the narration of Sujata, one can feel the suddenness and whimsicalness of life and also can see the very process of extracting strength and light from the darkness of hard times.
The great power of A Dragonfly's Purpose lies in the love of the author's daughter and also her ability to find meaning in the ordinary. The happiness that Sujata goes through is not of conquering but rather the moments of silently and peacefully continuing to live and being in her life that are trivial.
Sujata's narrative is so close that it becomes almost like reading a person's private diary. She allows the audience to share with her the feelings of grief, tiredness, and very little hope that were her companions at that time. The dragonfly stands for the purpose of life, that even the mere act of living is enough reason for one's existence. A Dragonfly's Purpose is one of those books that will leave a mark on you long after you have put it down—it is a reflective, honest, and gentle book that demands your patience with yourself for your understanding of the gigantic footprint that Sujata's life journey has made.
This book is about a Prof. Sujata Sharma, a loving wife, caring mother and an amazing guide to her colleagues and juniors. But one fine day, when her body starts shutting down, she faces the most dreadful question - is this the end?
This book talks about GBS - Guillain Barré Syndrome, a rare condition which Sujata gets diagnosed with. This book travels along all the symptoms for those to understand what this condition is about. Her initial resistance and dread, and later the resilience is the main highlight of this book. It is also worth mentioning that Sujata goes on a journey of 'new beginning', with her life doing a complete 360, and how she, her family and colleagues manage this new life.
A Dragonfly's Purpose helped me understand about this condition in a better way. It spreads awareness to its readers. Reading this book was emotional, yet inspiring. With every chapter, the author highlighted new but important symptoms of GBS which no one should miss. Moreover, this is an account from a patient's perspective, so how a person tackles this order and what all things go on in their mind is spoken loudly in this book. It's a must read for all.
The book covers the journey of Sujata Sharma, a reputed Biophysics Professor at AIIMS, and how she has overcome the life-threatening autoimmune disease GBS (Guillan Barre Syndrome).
After reading ‘The Secret Of Red Crystals’ by the author, I didn't have to give a second thought in picking this up. In both of the books, the author narrates her real-life journey, tackling the hurdles that life has thrown before her. While the first one was more about her college life, here the story focuses on her emotional fight against GBS. Her willpower and determination will inspire readers of any age group.
The author could perfectly portray her inner emotions and traumas. The narration is so good that I could feel myself, what she's going through.
As a student, I could strongly relate to ‘The secret of red crystals’ and it has a special place in my heart. That doesn't mean this one is any less, it's a strong inspirational read with an in-depth meaning and many valuable lessons for today’s generation.
If you are looking for a short, inspirational biography, this one would be a perfect choice.
I randomly picked this book and I am so glad that I picked it because as soon as I opened the book the information about GBS that is Guillain barre syndrome popped up and I have worked with those patients so I know about them. I will briefly summarise the blurb here. Life was almost perfect for Sujata. She was professor in AIMS. She had been deeply involved with research and teaching, with an active family and social life, pursuing physical fitness. But in just few days, her life changed upside down. She was diagnosed with GBS, an autoimmune disease. She met neurologist too. Did couple of tests. And started IVIG. This book consists of her journey and her struggles. Read the book to know her entire journey. I like the story. It’s written to the point and perfectly. It’s like diary. I have seen the journey of such patients so I know the author have given entirely relevant descriptions. The story moves at a faster pace so I liked it. The language of the book is lucid so that everyone can understand it. Author has simplified terminologies for layman. Quite an encouraging and informative read. Recommended from my side.
A Dragonfly’s Purpose authored by Sujata Sharma is a motivational book. The book is all about the author's journey from being a GBS patient to successfully overcoming it to become a dancer.
I would like to highlight few lines from the book which is really poetic and mesmerizing. The lines are as follows:
“We have divided this earth in fragments Now will we not leave the moon too? Let’s hear a story of one beautiful night When the festivities of Karwa chauth and Eid were on one side And our hatred and divisive forces were on the other side Did the moon rise that night? Or did it not? Finally, the moon gave her verdict.”
The readers will learn how recovering from GBS is difficult because it is a unique type of disorder. At one time, the disorder left the author disheartened, yet she wasn't ready to let her dreams go off just like this. The motivational book make it's readers realise the purpose of life and offers a motivation to recover from whatsoever illness you are suffering from.
The language used is easy and you will come across dialogue conversations. The cover page is also good.
First of all, I would like to thank the author for writing this book and making me learn about GBS - Guillain-Barré Syndrome. I had goosebumps when I realised how serious this problem is and how painful it is for the people who are suffering from the same.
The first part talks about Sujata Sharma, the author, an AIIMS faculty member in the department of Biophysics, who faces a life-altering crisis when Guillain-Barré Syndrome paralyzes her nearly completely within seven days. One day, she was perfectly fine, and the next day, her life changed totally. It was not only difficult for her, but also for the entire family.
Part 2 talks about inner strength, hope, and living purposefully amid adversity, using the dragonfly metaphor for embracing the present fully. It highlights emotional power, family support, and transformation through illness, resonating as a tale of real perseverance.
Though it's an inspirational story, it made me cry at many instances. The sudden change of life, daily routine, pain, and then coming up stronger is not easy, you need courage, a supportive family, and willpower to overcome something this challenging.

Read the book with utmost compassion and sensitivity . The book is about Guillain Barre Syndrome affecting a professor at AIIMS . A person who served the institution and witnesses a day on a wheel chair at the same premier institution. The author has meticulously described the premises of the institution as i have myself served there for a short period of time .
For me it was a walk down the memory lane as the premises in itself is an epitome of medical services in India .
What is this GBS ? Its a disease which is rare in itself in which the myelin sheath is destroyed by our own immune cells.
How does life take a 360 degree turn .... A professor committed to her work on research, married to love of her life , two good kids and fulfilling social life .....
IVIG the Intravenous Immunoglobulin Infusion is given to such patients which is combined together by pooling plasma of healthy donors ...
The patients are always blessing these donors .
The book is a combination of science and emotions . I would love to read it again .
One morning sujata wakes up with a tingling in her feet, that becomes her worst nightmare. The confident professor who was loving her life suddenly cannot trust her own body. As Guillain-Barré syndrome takes over her body, she has to rebuild her life.
Reading a story of a brilliant women, who lives her life on her own terms and now her life completely changed by a syndrome is really emotional. While reading the book I can feel every emotion author is portraying. At the end it left me devastated and rooting for sujata.
The journey of sujata is really inspiring, how she continues her life even after loosing her body. The way she finds happiness in small things is impactful. The bond she shares with her daughter is so beautiful.
Her braveness is commendable, she is not asking for pity or our concern, she wants to be seen as a powerful and confident person that she always was. The book is undoubtedly powerful and encouraging, but the Dragonfly's metaphor makes it more amazing. I don't want to reveal much, you should read the book to feel it.
