Rate this book
I am within… Why was Major Sam Carter chosen as a host by the alien invader in the STARGATE SG-1 episode “Entity”? In this exciting adventure we discover the mission that led the entity to its fateful decision… Captured by the Goa’uld Lugh, Carter faces a hard choice: help repair a cloaking device that would give Lugh a dangerous advantage or allow SG-1 to be handed over to the System Lords. But all is not as it seems among the Goa’uld under Lugh’s command, and SG-1 soon find themselves recruited by underground operatives possessing a rare gift that allows them to infiltrate Lugh’s inner circle. However, it is a gift that comes at a terrible price—a price that may yet cost SG-1 their lives. Meanwhile, the alien entity continues scanning SG-1’s mission reports in its quest to preserve its own life…

Fairly average book - I was hoping there would be more "Entity" in its pages, so to speak. And I'm getting fatigue from "Goa'uld who aren't Goa'uld" storylines in these books.

This was a fun read. It felt like a two-part episode. Some notes:
- The author did a good job of writing the characters. Everyone overall felt like who they are portrayed to be on the show.
- Teal'c was really funny in this.
- The book was well paced.

Some quibbles:
- The only moment I felt was a bit OOC was early on where Carter insinuates Later, she says which seems more in line with her character: willing to confidently argue her point but ultimately respectful of regulations. I don't know if the first time was meant to be Carter just trying to get a message to O'Neill given the circumstances, but as a reader, it just didn't seem like a situation where she'd say that. That being said, it was a minor moment, and I thought Carter was written really well throughout the book.
- There were some lines from Magna/Graen later in the book that I wish had been worded differently.
- Several characters have multiple names, some similar sounding to others. As the book went on, I sometimes found it difficult to keep track of who was who.
- I wanted to see the pizza party they kept talking about!

Overall, this was a fun read!

I may be somewhat biased because of how much I love Sam Carter and this being a lead up to one of my favourite episodes, but this was the best Stargate SG-1 book I've read so far. Sacrifice Moon has just barely been dethroned. I had such a great time reading it and really felt like I was watching an episode.

The writing was very good, so even the narration was enjoyable. Because of this, we got to read a bit more about the characters' thoughts and feelings behind the action, which I haven't see much of in the Stargate books so far. Best of all though, the characters' points of view felt coherent, appropriate, and canon! Even the references to Sam and Jack's feelings and relationship, which I enjoyed very much, though I know some wouldn't, did not go overboard into wishful fanfic territory. Rather, it stayed within what we might have seen on screen in season 4. The humour, sarcasm, and ease of communication between the team also felt like the SG-1 we know.

The story was intricate and had a lot elements but was developed steadily and purposefully to come together very well. There were a few moments that confused me a bit, or where I felt either I or the author had missed something. Overall, though, for a story with so many players and double-players and intricacies, I thought it was wrapped up very well.

The characterisation was accurate and I really felt like I was following along with SG-1. I particularly liked that, while this was definitely focused on Sam, all 4 members of SG-1 got their chance to shine and all of them were vital to the success of their improvised mission. So far in the books I've read, Teal'c has often been forgotten or set aside somewhat, which wasn't the case here as even he got his moments of focus.

Definitely looking forward to the author's other SG-1 book, Hall of the Two Truths, if I'll once again find the same quality of story, characterisation, and writing that I found in this book.

SG-1 are taken prisoner by a “very, very minor Goa’uld,” in Jack’s words, which makes for endlessly sarcastic jokes from the Colonel. This author has used the “hosts, but not regular Goa’ulds” device before to good effect, but I see some plotholes here, as I think it would be difficult to keep this group a secret.

The premise that the Entity is reading and analyzing this SG-1 mission report to decide how best to survive - ultimately, by taking over Carter because her survival is important to Jack - was a fun and interesting storytelling device.

Really enjoyed reading this. Not really for the Entity-related part (which isn't that much), but for the interesting plot and well-built new characters and world. I also think the characterization of the members of SG-1 is very well done here, I especially loved the little observations about Sam and Jack's relationship.

Very good; not the most thrilling of SG-1's adventures, but with plenty of twists and turns (and some unexpected reveals). It was interesting to see how the Entity viewed SG-1's actions. There were a few grammatical errors, and an instance or two of "Area 52" (likely meaning Area 51), but overall a most rewarding read.

Great Stargate story. The author knows the characters and show well, but more importantly, she can tell a great story. I was entertained start to finish.

Ah, so good! Just like watching an episode. Good plot, good characters, and a perfect pre-story to the Entity episode.
