The Kings of Miskatonic betrayed me. Trey, Quinn, and Ayaz pulled me into their world, made me trust them. Now, I can’t even trust myself.
They broke my mind, They shattered my heart. And sent me to the Dunwich Institute, where they tell me I’m insane.
I am insane, all right. Insane to trust them. Insane to love them.
What they don’t know is that their betrayal unleashed something Something that’s been hidden inside me. An inferno that will rain down fire and blood.
This prison can't hold me forever. I'll reclaim my freedom. Then the Kings of Misktatonic will burn.

I cannot be bothered to write anything. I saw the ratings and thought it would get better but it did not. The heroine became increasingly ridiculous and I feel as if everyone is bonkers. The book starts off from where it left. She is sent to a mental hospital and the school is trying to brainwash her into believing that she is crazy.
The h suddenly recalls that she has magical fire powers when she since she was a child (she describes that this is another dark part of her that she’s been trying to hide) but has been trying to avoid using it. One minute she knows she has powers. The next minute she keeps repeating and questioning how she got it from and she denies having any ability. So confusing. Then she decides to embrace this power and practices it in the toilet for a week (in the hospital). Then came out being extremely proficient as if she’s been using the powers her entire life. She burned down all the bedsheets in the hospital and escaped.
“Trey and Quinn squeezed close to me, their bodies my shield, their hearts the only thing keeping my fire in check. And even though I had the two of them, something still felt wrong. Incomplete. I knew what it was as soon as he stepped under the spotlight and his beauty drew my breath. His opium scent slammed into me, knocking me back.”

She is also greedy and why can’t she be satisfied. She already has 2 guys. I know it’s a reverse harem but it just sounds disgusting.
The guys are not attractive personality wise… maybe Quinn but that’s it.
Can’t related to anything. Maybe I don’t have enough imagination 😑
Just as I thought things were going in the right direction... Bam! Why do it plainly, when it can be complicated as hell? And not in a fun way. Side characters are beginning to be more and more interesting, and Hazel is becoming unbelievably annoying. Not a good thing to say for a lead character.
I cannot wait for December 31st to get here cause the cliffhanger and now everything about Hazel and the boys just seems to keep getting interesting and I’m hoping what will happen to each one of them.
I have no idea why I like this series so much. I read the first book in the series because the cover was beautiful. Cliffhanger happened, so I read the next only to discover another cliffhanger. Which led to this one, lol.
It's a creepy little story about bullies who actually as tormented as those who are bullied.
Without giving away the plot, it is one of those stories that you think you don't like that much but it sticks with you and without realizing it you are checking to see when the next book is set to be released.
I'm hoping it all works out for all the creepy revenants.
Much of what I said in my previous review applies; the story has a stronger, more complex and interesting plot, characterizations are expanded and more worthwhile, and most of the content I found a issue has leveled out or done away with. It was a pretty fast, engaging read overall.
Some notes, however:
Hazel is way too easily gaslighted; it's a manipulation tactic that takes a lot of time and is most effective when done subtlety with a gradual build. The way that she, within a matter of just a couple weeks, succumbs, and then is very quickly brought back out of it, makes the whole thing seem a little pointless. I would have preferred Hazel feel mostly sure it was real and just struggle with the seeds of doubt and have that turmoil, and it be an internal conflict as she seeks to find evidence and escape and what not, but instead she suddenly is like "Huh, yeah, I guess it all was my delusions and I am crazy" and then she has a magic dream where she talks to Trey and they kiss and she's like "Oh, yeah, guess it is all real then and I'll be breaking out of here." I just felt like this section of the plot was mostly just poorly executed and done so for an added conflict that served the plot a little too conveniently.
Another thing is that there's an odd self-slut-shaming vibe with Hazel that I didn't like. She's all "god I slept with two guys who are dead and not my boyfriends, guess I'm a zombie slut like my whore mom" and I'm like why is this here and why does it matter? Especially since we're forgiving Quinn and Trey and Ayaz for sleeping with everyone for twenty years, like, come on. Also, way to throw sex workers under the goddamn bus.
I mean we later learn that which isn't okay, but like, that doesn't mean defaming sex workers is cool :/ Also, we get some cheating, I guess, or maybe "hero infidelity" in that so it's also not cheating? We have the usual triggers for language, sex, violence, etc. with this series generally being pretty NA but not like hardcore erotica.
Not much else to say. Definitely better than book #1 and good for continuing the good thing we got out of book #2. I'll be reading the final book when it comes out in a couple days (though just to ensure my reading challenge is finished before January 1st, I'll probably read a standalone in the meantime and have book #4 be the first book of 2020).
This instalment was slightly better than book two. I’m still frustrated with the story telling but it has improved. I don’t really care about the heroine or the hero’s they’re pretty boring and cliche. I have no attraction towards the hero’s and I’m pretty indifferent about what happens to them. I am interested in where the story is going so that’s the only thing keeping me reading.
As I’ve briefly mentioned before the racial slurs and white privilege mentions are so unnecessary and add nothing to the story. There was no need to use the exaggerated offensive language it just seemed forced and orchestrated to intentionally trigger the reader, but not in a good way.
What another fantastic book in this series. I thought this was going to be the last one. I was wrong. I believe there is one more. The author needs to come on. I need it.LOL This book answered some questions, but it also opened up a whole can of worms, and now I have more questions. I hope the author is good at tying up loose ends, because I need answers. The question of what happened to Ayaz I think I have answers to, but I am probably wrong.LOL This book gets pretty in depth, and I would like to say that slowed me down reading, but that's a lie. I devoured this book in hours.
How this can be listed as a reverse harem bully romance is such false advertising it's beyond funny. The series itself up until now has been okay, got more farfetched with each book and the occasional political undertone just annoyed me as it was unnecessary.

DNF: The whole chosen one energy with her getting fire powers ruined the vibe for me. I also feel like the series has been dragging for a little bit. I so not think I will continue to the fourth book.

I was really excited to start this series and I'm on the third of four books and I'm not sure I want to finish them. Honestly I lost interest after book 2 but thought I could power through.
The last book in the series left us off with Hazel being sent to a mental institution. And for some reason Ayaz had betrayed her. In this book, we start with Hazel defeated, but nothing can keep our girl down for long. As soon as she realizes that she's been tricked, she starts to fight back. I love how strong Hazel is and how she doesn't just roll over an accept things as they are. She's also very loyal and loving. When people make it into her heart she will fiercely protect them.
I feel such loathing for Vincent and the other parents. As a parent myself, I can't imagine anything in the entire world meaning more to me than my children. I think that's what makes them so abhorrent to me. I think it says a lot about the power seekers in the world even in our reality.
Coming into play more and more is the fire that seems to follow Hazel. It's obvious she has this power and she's finally decided to embrace it and that changes everything. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.
um... i didn't enjoy this book. like at all. the story progressed but at what cost? i'm not really interested in finishing this series. illl probably just read a spoiler cause i don't care. this series went on a downward spiral that i do not want to stick around to see the end. if you have read this series you're a fucking trooper and i salute you.
This series is getting more and more ridiculous. The rats? Bowing and nodding? Really? I have one book left. This train went off the rails a long time ago, so I'm going to stick with it to see where it lands.
I expected a little beat more in this third installment. Be aware if you don't like the cliffhangers. Every book in this series ended with it. I still want to know how ends.
So much action and mystery! I knew hazel secret but when it was unleashed I surely did not predict what she would do! This book was just as amazing as the last ones and i absolutely cannot wait to read the final book!
So this book was totally epic. It is what I call a filler. You know when In a tv series you get an episode where not a lot happens and the the next episode of explodes...... That's what this book felt like. It felt like quite a few questions were answered but not all of them. Nothing in my eyes majorly happened until the last few chapters. Trey and the move he pulled utterly brilliant, genius idea. I'm so excited to read the conclusion to this series.
I just could not get competely through this series., First off it was not what i thought it would be . The description was off by a lot.. I would put this in a YA section more then anything. Then it was some super petty bully crap.. nope nope
hazel waite is forced to trade her uniform for a straightjacket, unvoluntarily being admitted into a mental institution. she’s determined to free the kings of miskatonic prep at whatever cost.
she’s trying to save her three boys—trey, ayaz, and quinn—from an ancient god.
hazel finally accepted that she has the ability to wield fire. she burns the dunwich institute to the ground and escapes her prison. she decides to return to derleth academy instead of traveling to the furthest corner of the world.
at first she thinks ayaz betrayed her, but later we find out that his memory was completely wiped. he doesn’t remember her or his loyalties to his two best friends.
nearly all of the students at miskatonic prep are no longer alive, living only as remnants. hazel didn’t know that transferring from her public school education in philadelphia to derleth academy would lead to all this chaos.
she was nearly sacrificed to a soul-eating god. instead, she decides to make a deal with the deity. she plans on trading her eternity f the god spares the lives of all the miskatonic prep students.
trey bloomberg chiseled out a piece of the cave wall which allowed him to travel past the academy wards. he reunited with hazel at ayaz’s sisters RV. they search for answers outside of miskatonic prep, trying to find a way to free all of them.
quinn delacorte has been waiting for hazel to give him a chance. he’s the first one to crack a joke, but he can be serious when he needs to be, and he’s determined to help find a way out of their hellhouse.
ayaz demir has lost all his memories. he doesn’t remember his relationship hazel. he most likely traded his own mind with his sister’s safety being threatened if he didn’t concede.
ayaz’s younger sister, zehra, attended miskatonic prep twelve years ago, but she’s back trying to save her brother. zehra and greg have been kept locked up in a dirty cell.
the only link between loretta & hazel is that they are both responsible for someone else’s death. loretta killed her rapist sperm donor with a pitchfork. fair enough. hazel caused the fire that look the lives of her mother and best friend. her mother was disgustingly sleeping with her best friend. hazel was surprised to find them together and lost control of her element.
i don’t like that it repeatedly mentions that she choose. if they shared her in the second book, why hasn’t it been brought up since?
hazel exposes the truth to the rest of the students of miskatonic prep. they now know that their parents were responsible for the fire twenty years earlier. the god links to hazel’s mind and starts to cause all sorts of destruction.
Hazel is a scholarship kid at a rich kid prep school. Everyone bullies the poor kids, you know that old song and dance, but there's this sinister reason behind it and Hazel's deal with the devil aka darkmistress of the school to save her friends from a horrible existence backfires...
Speaking of fires, Hazel has a monster inside of her. In order to battle the evil parents and teachers at the school and save all the students, she has to face her biggest fear and then make a deal with an even bigger baddie. And if that wasn't enough, she's fallen for three of her tormentors. The kings of the school. She's got some issues. I'm making it sound both vague (no spoilers) yet complicated and for that I'm sorry. Don't let my crappy review deter you from reading this book or the series in general.
Hazel is an amazing protagonist. She's the hero. She's the muscle and the brains and the beauty in this book. Fearless, courageous, self-sacrificing. She kicks butt and doesn't let anyone tell her what to do. I love her. She's everything I wish to be. <3 I encourage you to read this series. Thanks!
Moving right along. This book picks up with the cliffhanger from the previous book. Yep, I am absolutely hooked. I love the darker content of the story and characters. It seems like just when I think I may have things figured out, the author comes up with a new twist and puts me back in my place. I love when I don't know what's coming ...a surprise around every corner. The Kings may be bully's but the mystery behind the school and their backgrounds is slowing seeping out to keep us coming back for more. With some books it can be boring and you just want to give up when a story is prolonged. Not so with this series. I am obsessed with our main characters, wanting to know everything yet enjoying the slow tease. And yes, of course this book has a cliffhanger and I swear....I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for what I'm not sure but the anticipation is awesome. The content is on the darker side ...and it's calling me. GREAT series and there is more to come. I really hope the Kings and our heroine make it out of this together.
Ich will unbedingt weiterlesen. Das Buch hört wieder an einer spannenden Stelle auf. Ich freue mich riesig auf den nächsten Teil. Vielen Dank für die tollen Lesestunden. Ich kann die Reihe nur weiterempfehlen. Absolute Leseempfehlung. ❤️❤️❤️
Steffanie picks up right where she left us in Initiated and things get flipping crazy. I love how she develops Hazel’s character, this chick doesn’t back down from a fight and her love for the Kings (Ayez, Trey, and Quinn) shines brightly. Trey totally redeemed himself, Quinn is still swooningly funny and loving, but Ayez is basically out of the picture in this one (which broke my heart a little). Steffanie kept the suspense level cranked as she peeled back more of the history of Miskatonic Prep and shows what the true evil is. I found myself totally entrance as everything played out, alliances were made, and earth shattering secrets were revealed. The cliffhanger is the most killer one compared to the other two and I am already prepped and ready to dive into the finale. This is turning out to be one helluva fantastic supernatural romance series
