Add to that the hallucinations of people I've never met and creatures that don't exist, and you can see why I don’t let anyone in. People don't take well to weirdos that can't tell reality from illusion.
That all changed the day a dragon attacked. Yup, that’s right. A real-life, smoke-breathing dragon hunted me down in the middle of a school day. I only escaped because a Faerie forced me to jump through a fire portal into a realm of magic. Normal, right?
Just when I thought things couldn't get any weirder, I met him. The Fae prince. Eyes of jade, ebony hair, and a smile that made my knees weak. Too bad he was my mortal enemy sent to finish what the dragon started.
Now, faced with parallel worlds, a daring escape plan, and an evil queen bent on taking over the universe, only one thing is for certain. I’m in way over my head.
Jette has been dealing with nightmares and visions since she was little. Now in high school, she's a tough young woman who can hold her own. But all that changes when she sees a dragon appear in the skies. Frightened out of her wits, she escapes school grounds to her mentor Bishop's shop. He grabs her hand and together they enter a world she never thought existed via a portal. This magical world is filled with creatures only written in fairy tales and one sexy fae prince. She discovers she's got magical powers too, if only she can figure out how to use them. Time is running out and with an evil fae queen pursuing her, she's got to face her fears and use her wielding powers, or else the world is doomed. Can she do what everyone thinks she's capable of or will she fail, leading them all into the clutches of the power-hungry evil fae queen?
Wow, what an incredible book! From the moment Jette appears, I was hooked. The characters, Jette especially, are so well-crafted, they leaped from the pages and into my heart. The descriptive narration moves the plot with a fevered pace. The conflict, mystery, intrigue, action, adventure and ending all blend to make this an unputdownable fantasy. The world-building is exquisite while the slow-building romance between Jette and Starke is heart-melting. Fans of Kelley Armstrong and Uncanny Kingdom will love The Lost Link. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Highly Recommend!
A fairly typical fantasy/urban fantasy of this type. I like sass but the female lead gets a bit annoying. Particularly when she keeps on using idioms and referencing things that people from a parallel world would know nothing about. It makes sense that some would slip in but all the time? Don't you want people to actually understand you?
Michelle Bryan's The Lost Link is a sassy, fae themed urban fantasy novel, that is so gripping, it will leave you breathless. Jette's attraction to the son of the fae queen brings an intense dynamic seen in only the best of the genre fiction. An easy five stars.
Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.
Lost Link was a quick and fun read, that I really enjoyed. It's centered on my favorite type of supernatural, the fae, has a snarky female character who has a sense of humor, a hot fae prince (like there is any kind) and elemental magic, all of which help make Lost Link a good read.
Bridjette is the main character and she is one of those characters who at first has a questionable mental state. When she finds out that all the stuff she's been seeing is real, she has one of the best reactions to the "magic is real" situation, at first Jette is in denial she responses like a normal people, calling people crazy even while she is in the middle of it, saying she on Candid Camera and everything. Jette has a snarky sense of humor and says whatever comes to her mind. There are times when she annoyed the crap out of me but overall I liked her, when she wants answers she looks for them, she funny in certain situations and she calls people on their crap.
The wicked hot fae prince, Starke, is my favorite character. Starke is funny, handsome, kind, patient, generous and pretty much everything you expect in a prince. He helps guide Jette in this new world and seems to consider her better than the people who brought her to that world. He's not only her teacher but her friend as well, while there is slight flirting there wasn't any romance but some clues lead me to believe that there could be more to this story and I can't wait to figure it out.
While I did enjoy the story but something felt a little off, I think it was partially Jette's personality but mostly it was the supporting characters, they felt a little off, her foster sister, and her mentor to name a couple. The relationships just felt off-kilter somehow, other than that I had no problems. The world was interesting and the storyline unique while keeping with some of the themes I'm used to.
Lost Link is a good start to the Power of Fae series, it was fun and a good base to add to. The story ended on a cliffhanger and I am excited to see some things in the next book, Lost Magic and to figure out what is this thing between Jette and Starke. If you want a fun fae read with snark and humor then this quick read might be what you're looking for.
What an amazing fast-paced Urban Fantasy by Michelle Bryan. Great news!!! This was the first in this addictive series, once you've read one you'll have to read the rest!!!
I loved the world building in this story, it is nothing like anything else I have read before. There were many different kinds of world to travel into, all different but dangerous in it's own way. There was lots of kinds of magic and magic users and species, be it humans, elementals and fey- and shape shifting animals. As well as mystery and an epic evil queen and her wolf/dragon hybrid monsters. I loved all the twists in the plot, everything kept me guessing.
My problem with the story was the main character. I could not connect to her at all and her actions and speech left me fumbling to understand her. I feel like the way she acted (minus the attraction to very appealing guy wearing not a lot of clothes) was more similar to a (crude) preteen boy then the older teenage girl she actually was. I understand that she is tough from being in the foster care system and believed she had mental issues and hallucinations, but I found her to be off-putting and I could not really root for her. When I wanted her to zig, she zagged, but not in a way that kept me guessing and engaging, more in the way I just couldn't get or connect to.
Overall I think this is an interesting concept for a story and it had a cliffhanger ending to keep readers on the edge and wanting more. I am sure others will really enjoy this fantasy adventure
Wow! I don’t know where to start!?!? First, I’m not a fan of this genre BUT I am a HUGE fan of the author so I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad that I did! I can say this is one of my favorite reads for the past few years!
I couldn’t put it down. I read it in one sitting even though I sacrificed most of my sleep and I went to work thinking about these characters and this world she’s created.
The cliffhanger at the end is epic if you have read her other series.... that’s all I’ll say to avoid any spoilers.
The plot & character development was spot on and detailed. Not an ounce of filler in the book and it flowed seamlessly.
First things first, I need the second book! This book captured me from the very beginning and kept me hooked. The story is interesting and fun and so cool. I love Jette and her journey and all the people she meets.
Sometimes it's difficult to accept who you are. Take Jette for example. First, coming to terms among humans with her hallucinations and odd visage. Then accepting magic is real and she has elemental powers. Not really fitting anywhere, not having a grip on either life. And if it was not enough, there is the little fact the world is on the brink of apocalypse, tyranny, and destruction, and the burden of stopping the disaster is on her shoulders. No pressure, right? Coming to terms with Jette is difficult. She has no filter on her mouth, which is actually a refreshing treat, and leads to hilarious situations, but sometimes I couldn't help myself from wanting to slap or shake her. Like, girl, could you get a tiny bit of a classy kickassery please, you are outright a rude brat.. In the end all forgiven, as her situation is really difficult and not for the weak. Prince Starke on the other side is a whole other level of trouble, with his own conflicts and hard decisions, yet handling it with much more elegance and wits. Give me a choice and I pick him always over Jette, and it has nothing to do with him being a sexy man :) I also felt a bit overwhelmed in certain parts by the amounts of descriptions, could have cut them and still get the full picture without losing focus. However the mixture of modern world, typical "medieval" fantasy, and promised dystopia, is an alluring one, and the plot is decent enough to keep me engaged. I enjoyed the read despite slower development than I am used to, yet I feel attracted to the story somehow to be motivated to read on.
Jette suffers from hallucinations, at least that's what the doctors tell her. However, as they take on the shape of dragons, she can't deny how real they feel. Then, her teacher and only friend wisks her away to a whole different world. It's a world where creatures like the fae exist and Jette learns that she isn't an ordinary person. Everyone looks to her like she's some powerful being, but she doesn't feel it. Instead, she feels magic-less.
In this world, she meets Starke. He's cocky, arrogant, and loves to tease her. Her grandmother insists that he's the enemy, but Jette doesn't see it. When a situation lands the two together, Jette finds herself drawn to him and sees a side of Starke that opens her eyes to who he really might be. With him, the mark on her wrist flares to life and it's a connection she can't deny.
THE LOST LINK is a magical fantasy with characters who keep you on your toes. Michelle Bryan always does an amazing job of creating characters that you want to cheer on. I love Jette's sarcasm and Starke's cockiness. The two together is like watching a whirlwind whip through the trees and I love every second of it. There are also some minor characters pulling at your heartstrings, like Cara and Shay.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this book to fans of fantasy, fae, dragons, magic, betrayal, and romance.
This was a fun and intriguing introduction to a new series about a girl who discovers she has magical powers, and gets transported to a new world which needs her help. If that sounds like something you enjoy I think this may be for you.
I liked the magic system, and the world building was great! I also really enjoyed how realistic this was, particularly concerning Jette (heroine). Her reactions and thoughts are exactly what I would be thinking if I found out about magic and new worlds.
While initially I really liked and appreciated Jette’s honest reactions, at times it felt repetitive. For example, she’s new to the world of magic but has travelled through a portal, seen magic with her own eyes and yet still says things like “I’m not sure I believe you/in magic”. I get she has doubts, and part of her being so real and relatable was great, but it just got a little too much for me in the later half of the book. That being said, other characters acknowledge this and are irritated by it so I’m hoping for some character growth in the next book.
With regard to the writing, for the most part it was great. My only issue was that some of the sentences seemed to be missing a word in front of it. Mostly this is for Jette’s inner monologue but I found my brain was adding the words at times because it didn’t really make sense or flow.
Quote: “Hell, I wasn’t even sure if I was okay. Felt like the bones in my shoulder and back were shattered into a thousand pieces.” - IT felt like, makes more sense to me in this case.
Overall, I enjoyed this and I’m interested to see where this goes.
Once I started, I could not put this book down! Jette is a strong female character who has awesome taste in music:
“Flipping through my phone, I found my favorite playlist of eighties music. Yeah, eighties stuff was what everyone’s wrinkly old parents reminisced about as they tried to recapture their youth, but shit, it was damn good music. There was nothing like hearing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” or Prince’s “Purple Pain” thumping through your head. Scrolling through the list, I decided to start with Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and stuck my earbuds in my ears, blocking out the obnoxious sounds of everyday life.”
Heck yeah! Once she enters the other worlds, everything as she knows it is turned upside down. There’s an enemy-to-lovers aspect that I can’t wait to see more fully develop on the next book. And, the ending has me wanting more right now!
“You lied. I did mess up. And I think we’re in some seriously deep shit.”
This was an extraordinary urban fantasy story that started off with a troubled young woman living in a foster home. She had nightmares was going to therapy and that she was just going crazy. Her only goal was to pass her social studies test. Then the world changed and she realize maybe she’s not going crazy. A combination of urban fantasy and sci-fi thrown in together. If you remember the TV show sliders where they traveled to the same earth but different dimensions and everything was different. Then maybe throw in a little bit of Harry Potter/Matilda/magicians. Magic is real and the world is more than you think it is. Follow the adventures of jet as she realizes she is more than just a messed up young woman. She may be part of the savior of the universe. Extraordinary tale and action packed adventure. Sci-fi urban fantasy at its best.
I found myself reading non stop until the end. That’s how interesting it was. I really like the main Character Jette. She’s straightforward and speaks her mind. And is kickass too! I might have a slight crush on Starke as well. Those two are perfect for eachother!
I definitely would love to find out what happens next.
There’s no way I was able to guess what would happen in this story. Everything seems so new and different to me. I’ve read other books about Fae and magic but this story is so on a different level. Which is not a bad thing. Makes for a really good read!
I definitely recommend this. The characters are great. Lots of action and twists and turns.
First if all, HOLYGUACAMOLE. I didn't expect to be this hooked up in the story that when I reached the last paragraph of the last chapter, I sure was hell not expecting to turn the page and see thank you notes and book 2 coming on summer. GIVE ME THE SECOND BOOK NOW.
But seriously, I loved the story and the fact the Jette O'Hare is a no non-sense protagonist in the story and that Bish who is a man be like a mother figure to her. It is tough to go through what she has been trough and to accept that she is an elemental task with a big responsibility of saving the world or rather "worlds" all of sudden. I liked the oacing and building up of the characters, especially with Granny O'Hare and Asha. Looking forward to the second book ☺️☺️☺️

Sometimes i find it difficult to write a review, that’s why I read instead. I don’t like to use spoilers which doesn’t help me. But I can say that this is the start of a great exciting fantasy adventure that was totally entertaining and enjoyable. The twists and turns made me want to keep reading as long as I could. Unfortunately, even in lockdown, life gets in the way. The main characters Jette and Starke certainly kept the adrenaline going. Magic and power, love and hate all mixed up to bring one riveting read so worthy of my time. Read it. You won’t be disappointed.
Even better than the books this author has written before. I can't talk enough about how much I loved this variation on fae. It's so different from others, so unique, that it sucked me into the story and I read it in two sittings.
Jette has had a super rough life in the human realm and it's not about to get easier now that she went into the fae realm. She may not have had parents that loved her, but at least no one tried to abduct her. Now, she has an evil queen after her, a reluctant alliance with said queen's son, a quest only she can complete, and all the worlds counting on her. Whew, she's a tough as nails chick and I loved her to pieces. Add in Starke who I assume will make a very interesting love interest, and I can't wait to see where this goes.
I Iove this book! Jette made me laugh out loud many times. I love how she just says how she feel. I loved Starke from the start. Cant wait to see where this story take Jette and Starke. I really enjoyed this world and had a hard time putting this book down. I cant wait for the next book in the series.
Brilliant start to a series. I was hooked from the opening. It does include some swearing, but I would suggest this to 12 years plus and possible mature younger readers. Jette (My brain pronounces this is several different ways) is a wonderful character with sass, humour and girl power. She is an excellent role model. Love this book and fully recommend, looking forward to book 2.
The first half of the book was slow and lacked dialogue. Dialogue is important to me. The second half was better. If I had to break it down the first half was a 2 and the second a 4 so that gives it a 3 rating. I did like Jette and Starke together in the second part. There was some action in the second part also.
The Lost Link was recommended by an author friend of mine so I decided to give it a read. Adding Michelle Bryan to my loved authors!!! I recommend this book to anyone looking for fantasy world travel and action coupled we ish adventure and partnership. Give it a read!
The Lost Link is a great story that holds your attention. A strong and sassy lead female character, Jette. Wonderful and imaginative worlds with interesting characters.
I was honestly surprised by this books. The first half of the first chapter had me feeling like I was going to read a typical “my parents sacrificed themselves for me, and now I have to relive it again and again” book. Except the second half came and completely threw me off that course! I was so pleasantly surprised that I have been hooked to this book since. The contrast of language and how real the main characters reactions are is great! I loved the concept and how Michelle wrote each character. The story is fun but suspenseful, mysterious but intriguing. Just a great read.
Really grateful for the opportunity to read and review this book. One of my favourite reads this year.
I don’t know, I just didn’t care for the main character Jette. It may be the boatloads of teen angst but Jette whined way too much for me- she reminded me of a 12 year old but with less respect.
Did enjoy one quote “Wow. Please tell me everyone around here doesn’t treat you like that.” “Like what?” He truly seemed puzzled at my statement. “Like you fart roses and butterflies.”
I've never read any books by this author before. The Lost Link was a great introduction to her writing. It's an adventurous story about a girl who suddenly discovers that she has magical powers and her world is turned upside down. The Lost Link was impossible to put down. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
I love starting a new fantasy series and the world-building that goes with it. I was not disappointed, the fact that the author had to create multiple worlds too and explain the differences between them without getting bogged down was a great achievement.
The main character of Jette I really enjoyed and saw a lot of myself in and I am yet to decide if that is a good thing or not depending on whether you are looking at the positives or negatives of her character.
It was a good easy to read story that I finished in the day I got it because I needed more more MOAR!
