If you’re an avid fan of the hit RoosterTeeth animation series: RWBY, then this book is a must-read!

One of the greatest things about RWBY is the in-depth world and lore, of which we only glimpse about 20% by watching the show alone. There are trailers, World of Remnant teasers, Wiki pages, and now a few books too, all of which adds to the dynamic and creative and simply beautiful nature of the series. This book is but a single, whimsical piece of a much larger puzzle, one I am hungry to put together.

RWBY: Fairytales of Remnant is a collection of fairytales gathered over time by Ozpin and published in one place. The book’s forward says that Ozpin’s intent was to preserve some of their oral histories and beliefs, while also honoring the vastly different versions of each story that exist. It’s a fascinating concept, really, and wonderfully executed.

Each story in RWBY: Fairytales of Remnant takes the reader on a journey through Remnant, and the eyes of its inhabitants. We learn of the fables they believe regarding the moon and the Maidens, we learn how the Faunus were created and where the two gods went when they disappeared.

But more importantly, we gain insight into the fallacies that have built Remnant to what it is today, and therefore a greater understanding of the battles yet to come team RWBY’s way.

Each story has a lesson, one that the reader is left to ponder whether Remnant has learned yet, even all these years later.

I really enjoyed this book. I read it with my brother during commercials while rewatching RWBY, and we were so immersed that sometimes we’d forget to watch another episode.

Highly recommended for those ravenous RWBY fans who want to figure out all of Remnant’s secrets before they’re revealed to us. I think there are likely some hints to season 9 in this book.

I enjoyed this for the most part and would have given it 4 stars if it weren’t for the layout mistake on p83 between “Story of the Seasons” and “The Girl in the Tower.” Because this is essentially an art book, with every page heavily designed and illustrated, this sort of thing matters, especially when the tail end of notes from the previous story end up smooshed in before the beginning of a new story after a full page of art.

The text could have been edited or formatted a little differently, but they missed this before it was sent to the printers. Too bad. Wasn’t a horribly expensive book, but takes a way from the “gorgeous, gift worthy” claims on the back.

Still, a fun read by a talented upcoming author. If you’re a fan of the world of RWBY it’s a no brainer that you need to check this one out.

Dive deeper into the world of RWBY with this gorgeous fairy tale book.

OK, I must confess that I haven’t watched the show, yet. The show sounds amazing, and the manga I read set in the world was fantastic… but the style of animation is just NOT my cup of tea. But who knows, I may just check the show out because I want to delve deeper in this very interesting world.

This book is a collection of fairy tales/stories/tales from the world of Remnant. It is collected by a man named Professor Ozpin who also has penned an intro + notes to go with each story. From the start I was just in the stories, they are wonderfully told and I love the style. We read about various origin stories (from Grimm to Faunus), we see cautionary tales about what not to do (like don’t go in the woods when you are warned about it being dangerous), we read stories on decisions and destinies. I had so much fun reading them. Yes, 1 or 2 stories just didn’t grab me, but thankfully there were plenty of stories that I loved. Like the brother and sister one which just broke my heart. Or the one with the wonderful and wise king who was wondering what to do when he received a crown that told the future (or at least part of it) and he wasn’t sure what to do with it. I also really loved the story of the princess stuck in a tower (heavily reminding me of Rapunzel, just without the hair.

I liked the notes at the end, though sometimes they went on a bit too long for my taste. I would have rather seen them shorter.

The art, WOW. That was just a beautiful thing. I loved the big picture at the start of the stories, but also love the illustrations that followed.

All in all, I would highly recommend this book to all. I can honestly say that I could read this one without a lot of knowledge on the world of RWBY. It was easy to follow and the tales were lovely.

The illustrations are too good for such a boring and mediocre set of stories. Sorry I did not really care for any of them lol. But like I wasn't expecting much. Even with beautiful illustrations, this is still RWBY and I expect nothing from RWBY.

I really enjoyed this. Not only for the purposes of getting to read the creation stories of Remnant, but also the full fairy tale mentioned in Before the Dawn about staring at the sun, the spoopy story with a new grimm, and especially the commentary given from Ozpin's perspective on each tale. Amazing. Would recommend to RWBY friends and anybody who likes world building.

This was okay.

I do like the concept of writing fairy tales to be framing the mythology of a fantasy world. The stories explored how people of Remnant thought their world came to be. Why is the moon broken? How did the Faunus come into existence? I also like the concept of Ozpin being the one who collected and annotated them. It is quite ironic, isn't it?

If you are a fan of the web series, there are some nice hints to the lore of the world.

Overall, the stories were just okay. None particularly stood out to me. Some I wouldn't even call fairy tales, to be honest.

Though, the design of the book is really nice. As I said, I liked that each tale was accompanied with a commentary by Ozpin, but I especially liked the illustrations. I found the to be very beautiful.

So, once again: a piece of RWBY media that is probably only for uber fans (yes, hello, that's me) as it stands in close relation with the series.

It's so RWBY core. The tales are uniquely RWBY, in a way that there's a bitterness to every origin. The notes from Ozpin throughout are my absolute favourite part of this. You can just hear his voice, and the part he had put on to play professor, keeping ambiguity and feigning ignorance to certain themes. It immerses you into the world, as if you were just another child looking up to hunters and huntresses, and the headmasters that trained and judged them, taking all his tidbits as valuable insight, whilst knowing the soul he carries and the doom that looms over him for eternity has not guaranteed him as a moral superior.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes RWBY, even a little!

i recently got into rwby through my boyfriend. this collection is a cute companion to the series. you don't need to have watched the show to understand the stories told. although it makes some stories a tad funnier if you do. by far one of the best parts of this book is ozpin's notes at the end of each fable. it was clearly an excuse for him to be sarcastic/ironic. especially with "the girl in the tower" ;).

Very whimsical and fun. A great companion for anyone who's a fan of the show! The author did an amazing job capturing that fantastical and legendary feel from fairytales with the moral/lesson woven throughout the fable. I especially enjoyed Ozpin's notes after each story and I liked how some stories were "recorded" by characters in the show like Glinda Goodwitch, Qrow and even professor Oobleck

This is a book full of the fairytale of the fictional world of remnant, it tells the tails of different fairytale mentioned within the main web series RWBY and allows The fans to read the whole tails of each fairytale, one of my favorite probably has to be the hunters children.

Spoilers: some commentary about the RWBY series up to Volume 6.

I don't know if E.C. Myers has ever written fairy tales (or any children's literature) prior to this book, but based on what I read here, I bet he hasn't. The prose of the stories is very dry and sometimes anachronistic - sometimes it even sounds like I'm reading the story summarized in a fan wiki. E.g. the sentence "inanimate objects could pass through the magical barrier" sounds like someone explaining force field mechanics, not the internal narration of a young fairy tale heroine. In terms of plot and characters the stories are quite bland. I liked The Indecisive King, but that was pretty much it.

The reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 were the comments by Ozpin. His comment on "The Girl in the Tower", which is written by the girl herself (who is pretty obviously Salem) describes it as propaganda. However, this book in the world of RWBY is a collection of stories centering Ozpin's past lives, which are curated by him to show him in a good light. I think that little bit of hypocrisy is a really good touch for the character.

I also like to mention that "The Girl in the Tower" could have potentially borrowed the idea of a girl locked in a tower throwing notes from her window to seek a savior from Brandon Sanderson's Warbreaker. Maybe it's a coincidence but the two brothers are also a bit similar to Ruin and Preservation from Mistborn. Those are very small element of this book and the RWBY series, so it might have been coincidental.

I almost gave this book five stars for the artwork alone. Unfortunately, some significant errors in spelling and editing let it down. 'Fairy Tales of Remnant' is the perfect book for any fan of RWBY or fairy tales in general. Unlike much of the other written RWBY content, I would even say you do not have to be a fan of the show to pick this up. Violet Tobacco's drawings were incredible and each story, even though they were short, was unique and entertaining. There are some minor spoilers through interpretation, but nothing is said directly. For the most part, too, E.C. Myers' writing is inventive and captures the voice and spirit of the show well. Each story contains a moral which is still applicable in the real world, and the addition of 'Ozpin's Notes' was a delight. As I said, however, some significant spelling errors should have been fixed in editing. I do not know if the project was rushed, but it lets the whole book down when it is filled with mistakes. On top of this, sometimes paragraphs are formatted incorrectly and run onto each other. I expect better from a professionally published book, and I hope it will be fixed in subsequent editions. As far as content goes, though, 'Fairy Tales of Remnant' was a great quick read that I would recommend to anyone.

Went into this expecting nothing but it turned out to be a pretty decent bedtime audiobook. Quality varied between stories but my favorite was "The Indecisive King." I liked that Ozpin's Notes were narrated by Ozpin's English VA; that was a nice touch. It was pretty funny when he tried to pretend some of the fairy tales had nothing to do with him (like "The Infinite Man" and "The Girl in the Tower").

At one point I was drifting off to sleep but then a brief mention of The Thief and the Butcher had my eyes shooting WIDE OPEN. Basically the line implied that Emerald and Mercury still have yet to discover their true purpose and have an important role to play, and I wanted to cheer from the rooftops like SO TRUE, SO TRUE. Who knows how much authority this little book of fairy tales has but I'll take what crumbs I can get. Apparently The Thief and the Butcher is a classic novel with an excellent film adaptation in the RWBY universe and you know what, that's exactly what Volume 10 should be. The Emercury soap opera of all time. (GREENLIGHT VOLUME 10)

But ah, we're getting off topic here. Anyways, it was a good one and I can actually see myself re-listening to this sometime.

This is a collection of fairy tales from the world of Remnant (the fantasy world where RWBY is set) It is told by Pro.Ozpin, after every tale there are notes from the character. Very similar format as the Tales of Beedle and Bard.

• The Warrior in the Woods - 4/5
• The Man Who Stared at the Sun 3/5
• The Shallow Sea 3/5
• The Hunters Children 3/5
• The Indecisive King 4/5
• The Grimm Child 4/5
• The Judgement of the Faunus 3/5
• The Infinite Man 3/5
• The Two Brothers 3/5
• The Story of the Seasons 4/5
• The Girl in the Tower 3/5
• The Gift of the Moon 4/5

Fans of RWBY will LOVE this - Bur newcomers to the world could love this too, the book is so stunning!

Though this book is framed in the context of children’s fairy tales, its wholesome bittersweet messages are those that will benefit people of any age. It was extremely meaningful to me and clearly incapsulates one of the most prominent messages throughout the RWBY universe, “keep moving forward.” I love the roosterteeth’s RWBY because of of its deep and healing themes for all those who have ever felt broken or hopeless in the face of darkness, wether internal or external. And as someone with formal education in both psychology and mental health counseling, I can say it, along will all RWBY content, clearly illustrates that healing is always accessible through human connection and empathy. From this book in particular, one of my favorite messages is that you’re story, regardless if it is a happy one, is always valuable and worth sharing.

I really enjoyed this! Fairy tales from a world I do very much love! Such a joy. There were a couple of formatting errors that surprised me quite a bit, but I didn't find them egregious enough to take away from the stories, although it did ruin the magic of the book a bit for me. I'm very surprised it wasn't caught, and it looks like it wasn't just few copied that had the error either, based on what I've heard from other readers.
But the stories themselves were wonderful. I do think they make a lot more sense if you've dived into the RWBY series already. Fun read!

These are beautiful fables from Remnant, the world of RWBY. There are a few stories that may not make sense to people who don't watch the show--for instance, one might not understand a couple of stories without knowing what "Faunus" means--but the book as a whole is worth reading on its own merits. It's beautiful, and the morals are worthy.

Fundamentally, this is a tie-in to the RWBY TV series, and was worth reading to me because I'm enough of a RWBY fan to want to consume all the canon lore. But it wouldn't make much sense to someone not familiar with the TV series, and I'm not sure it has much merit outside being a tie-in.

There wasn't a single story in this collection that I didn't like. Sure, I liked some more than others, but in the end you can feel all the love and work that has been put into bringing this book into existence. Beautiful stories, beautiful artwork, even the afterword was beautiful.

Absolutely everything I could have hoped for from a Remnant fairy tale collection. Ozpin's notes make it even more worth reading, it fits neatly into canon. There were a few editing oopsies but they would probably fix those in later editions. A must for any fan.

Nice little addition to the world of the series! I love fairytales, and they’re so central to the show that I’m really glad they expanded on that a bit more in book form. The narrator did a great job. And the little Ozpin asides added a nice little touch of world building.

Extremely suspect storytelling, I don't know what they were going for with this, but these are bad fairy tales with bad morality. Almost as bad as the terrible show it's based on. Don't read unless you're a) delusional or b) a delusional RWBY fan.

Amazing illustrations, writing style is overall great.
A couple stories bored me a little or droned on a tiny bit too long.
I love have Ozpin's notes at the end of each story to read through, having his perspective on these makes it even better.
