THEIR MISSION: ACQUIRE BATTLEMECH PLANS, NO MATTER THE COST...

There are three ways to accomplish a difficult objective: Be first. Be smarter. Or cheat.

The Intelligence Directorate of the Capellan Confederation, otherwise known as the Maskirovka, is well-versed in all three. But when the first two methods do not achieve the desired results, they have no problem resorting to the last one.

And when the covert team gains the plans they are willing to die for, that resolve will be tested to the limit as they try to escape the Free Worlds League planet they have infiltrated, matching wits with one of the most feared intelligence officers the FWL has to offer...

Author Jason Schmetzer brings us close to the end of the Proliferation cycle with the Spider Dances. The Capellan Confederation needs the for their own BattleMech and it's thanks to some spies that they send to the planet planet of Xanthe III within the Free Worlds League. Xanthe III is where they're building their mechs for the war effort and thanks to the Confederation spies they'll have to change their specks. But the plans are hidden all over the capital city for those who know where to look. Yes the Free Worlds League in the Inner Sphere's General is furious but they lost decades on research to the Confederation. And they have to be aware of who will happen next. This is a great novella and I'm looking forward to reading the last in this series. I highly recommend this series to all science fiction and Gundam fans.

This last book of the Proliferation Cycle ties things up with how the Capellan Confederation managed to get their hands on BattleMech technology. And while on the surface their story was somewhat similar to what was done with the Draconis Combine infiltrating the Lyran Commonwealth to get the data, this story really fleshed out the difference in devotion and commitment demonstrated by the Capellan agents.

What we got was a very involved story that shows their disturbing loyalty to their nation facing off against the intelligence arm of the Free Worlds League. I really enjoyed the sort of cat and mouse game that happens and how it all climaxes with a rather powerful ending. Definitely one of the best books in the cycle.
