What's your IT? Anger? Fear? Low self-esteem? Depression? Addiction? FIXING It brings together for the first time in one volume, a complete guide to surviving anxiety in its many forms and how to move on to achieve change and growth in our lives.Includes the titles LIVING WItH It: A Survivor's Guide to Panic Attacks, LIVING It UP: the Advanced Survivor's Guide to Anxiety-free Living and LEttING It GO: Attaining Awareness out of Adversity.A survivor of Panic Disorder, cartoonist and author Bev Aisbett presents a fun, easy-to-read guide for sufferers of anxiety disorders, and a valuable insight for those interested in personal development.
In 1991 Bev Aisbett launched a full–time freelance career in cartooning and illustration. Around this time, Bev experienced an ordeal commonly known as anxiety disorder. Out of this experience she developed the character "IT" which led to the successful publication of Living With IT, Living IT Up and Letting IT Go. Bev has also published "Get Real, dealing with body image and eating disorders" and in 2000 the successful "Taming the Black Dog: A guide to depression."
With good humour and cute illustrations this series of three books is focussed on helping those with Panic Attacks understand what they are and what you can do to overcome them. Not all the ideas are ones that I would use, but the first of the books "Living With IT" I've read before, a GP gave it to me when I first started having problems with anxiety and it's being a great a help, it outlines the experience of panic attacks in an easy to understand way and offers ways to "feel the fear and do it anyway", I've often read it over.
The other two books "Living IT Up" and "Letting IT Go" I haven't read before, they were more like self-help books, with more suggestions on how to overcome panic attacks, some of which are probably common sense, but others I hadn't considered.
Wonderful book! Wish I had it sooner when I was at my wits end! Although it had some typos and the drawings are really flimsy, the advice given is simple to understand and follow in everyday life. Thank you for writing this book!
A good fun, useful read. This trilogy is an affordable way to buy three books by the author about anxiety. The first of the three, “Living with It”, is my pick (see my separate review) and after that the point starts to become a bit labored.
Absolutely adore Bev Aisbett’s writing style and the way she approaches mental health in such a down to earth way. Although this is not something I struggle with as much today the world can become very overwhelming at times and it’s a good reminder of how to look after our mental health.
