REX
Throughout history, they’ve been known as Werewolves. Some now call them Dog-Men. For those who must hunt them, they are designated “Rex.”
There was a Rex at the compound, captured as a pup when its mother was killed on a hunt. When standing upright it was almost eight feet tall, with a human like physiognomy from its narrow waist up. Its lower body was wolfish, with massive hocks and a short tail. Its gigantic lupine head, with powerful jaws filled with flesh-ripping fangs, grew directly from its hulking shoulders.
After its size, the creature’s second most striking feature was its muscularity. The staff zoologist explained this was due to a condition called myotonic hypertrophy, caused by an associated mutation of the MSTN gene which increased skeletal muscle size and bone density. The extreme physiology of the Rex made even the most grotesquely oversized human bodybuilders seem puny by comparison.
“This genetic component of Canis lupus Rex gives them incredible strength and endurance,” the scientist told them. “But to support that muscle mass requires an enormous daily caloric intake. They're always hungry, which makes them very aggressive. Be cautioned. They're smarter than chimpanzees.”

Camping with intelligent werewolves...not on my to do list.
Loved, loved, loved this new take on werewolves. Well, at least it new to me since I haven't heard of dog men prior to this fantastic book. As I love everything about creatures who are killing machines, I really enjoyed these since they did not mindlessly kill...they were intelligent and thought their killings through. The human characters were interesting and I loved the underlying storyline. This book contained what I enjoy most about creature horror books...lots of scary moments leading up to lots of gore. I hope there is a sequel or three coming. It's that good.

Vince Johnson writes a very entertaining thriller with this book. His action scenes were easy to follow and his descriptions were very vivid. I have hunted big game but this is the big game that hunts you. The Rex were off the hook bad assery. The characters popped out at you as very realistic. You believe this is actually possible at the end of the book. Good read worth your time. I enjoyed it.

What's really in the woods?
This book really keeps you on the edge of your seat. This author has a way of keeping you saying , just one more chapter. I really enjoyed this book even though l may never go camping again.

Rex
It was ok. It had to many scenes reminiscent of other books I’ve read and to many parts left open. Just the fact that it wasn’t a love story kept me reading. I enjoyed it but it could have been better.

Pretty good werewolf story. Different than most I've read. Called Dogmen in this one. Missing Scout troop in Texas, Bigfoot film crew, and Samantha a blogger about Dogmen have the experience of a lifetime in the woods of East Texas.

I really enjoyed this story! Tons of action and suspense, and excellent monsters. Hopefully Rex 2 is in the authors head! If so, I will surely buy it!

Wow
Starts off with a roar, and then builds from there. This is no cutesy pie tortured werewolf story, this book delivers! My only complaint was the ending, sigh.
