He Stole Her Life... ...Can he Win Her Heart?

Just a few weeks ago, Harlow was living her life on Earth- locking up bad guys and drinking beers with her fellow cops after shift.

She never wanted to be the Arcav King's mate.

Unfortunately, she was outplayed.

Now, Harlow must learn how to rule over an alien species, while making room for her mate's giant... ego.

It turns out that alien contact has serious repercussions for humanity. When Harlow learns that the Grivath have a ship full of humans as slaves, she'll do anything to save them... even if it means temporarily taking her role as the Arcav King's mate.

Determined to Leave

Varian hunted his mate like any true Arcav warrior, but triumph is nowhere to be found. Harlow may be in his arms, but she may never choose to stay with him willingly. When trust turns to deception, will Varian knock down the defences around his heart?

Tempted to Stay

With war brewing and betrayal around every corner, can Harlow and Varian protect both their people?

And will Harlow accept her destiny… as the Arcav King’s Obsession?

Quick(ish) Review
This review covers both books because...sigh, this is a cliffhanger. More on that later.

The Sitch: The Arcav (this bit's a little hazy) "invade" Earth by telling humans that due to a poisoning of their own planet's blah blah blah (you'll learn all about it in a later book, so I won't dive into it now), no females are being born and they are in search of mates. Lo and behold, humans are biologically compatible and can be mated to the Arcav.

However, it's just a genetic lottery - if a human female's DNA matches with an Arcav male, they're mated. No choice, or even a guarantee of love, it's just genetics - they're "claimed" and their lives are no longer their own. When Harlow, a human cop just going about her day, finds out that she's a match to an Arcav male and not just any male, but the Arcav King, she refuses to give in. With the help of her partner and an anti-Arcav group, she goes on the run. King Varian is thrilled to come to Earth and claim his mate. He is under pressure to produce an heir, but he believes in matings and is thrilled to see the human meant for him. And then she runs away, and he's all like "dafuq?" He's not prepared. He's like a cishet rich white dude - he can't imagine a world where a woman wouldn't be thrilled to be with him. So he vows he will find her and he will take her, no matter what. The chase is on, things get kind of gray and questionable but eventually, romance happens.

The Good: Ahem. Yes, I love SFR. And yes, I can get down with an easy instalove kind of read, no tea, no shade, crackilicious reads are so fun. However, what I really love, in my heart of hearts, when the hero has to work for it. HARD. Seeing a SFR that really delves into a heroine’s lack of choice when “claimed” and not thinking it's all hugs and puppies that some strange, powerful alien wants to take her choice away? It's great to work through those feelings, and examine her conflict when her freedom is unilaterally taken away from her. It doesn’t happen often enough.

Even if I don't love multi-book romance arcs, I have to give it up to Ms. Hart - seeing ALL the emotional beats play out, including dealing with the emotional fallout for both MCs, kept me engrossed in this story.

The Bad and Everything In Between: It’s a cliffhanger. So far I’ve read more cliffhangers this year than I have in YEARs. Who even am I? The only thing that makes it tolerable is being able to read the next book right away.

Normally romances that span more than one book isn’t my jam because it’s rare that I think a story wouldn’t improve with some judicious editing. Now, there are some grammatical/typographical errors here, but the overall romance worked, and the work being put into the HEA works well enough that I could look past the need for a cliffhanger. Plus the rest of the series seems to be one book/couple which is more my speed.

Oh and the covers are kinda cringe but I’ve seen worse so I can live with it.

The Bottom Line: I really liked the angst, and Harlow and Varian’s romance kept me turning the page all day long, so well done Ms. Hart. And the teasers for future couples have me on the hook, so much so that I just downloaded the entire series. If you’re into SFR, you may like it too.

It was a good, happy ending to the story of Harlow and Varian. Exciting, varied and thrillingly told. So many different and interesting side stories, which arouse interest and want to be read or should be continued and told in the following books.

A great introduction to an interesting world with exciting, emotional points of view and enough material to cheer on.

Let’s read!!!

This is a continuation from book 1 in the series and so I urge everyone to read that book first otherwise you may get easily lost and confused. This is a brilliant story and one that I was looking forward to after finishing book 1. The characters continue to grow as Harlow and Varian continue to struggle to adjust to each other as well as combining the different cultures. This is a wonderful series and I’m looking forward to seeing where the author takes us from here.

Yeah Tom! I love it when authors do that.....no I’m not telling you’ll have to read the book. While the first book was often tense, this one was down right funny at times. The language is so real.......’I know, right?’ and the confusion over colloquialisms hilarious and realistic. The BEST however is Harlow’s penchant for wine!

The extra chapter was a welcomed bonus for signing up for the author’s newsletter. I see many chapters of hilarity in the future....especially over the lack of wine. I can relate!

I love this series. I want another book with Harlow and Varian! They are so good together even though Harlow fights it every step of the way. Its so different from other books and I love it. I've never been a fan of alien books but this author changed me! I have several questions that were unanswered so definitely waiting on next book. Highly recommend this series!

This book rivals the first one. The storyline was great and had the same flow, intrigue, and great steam. The characters were really well developed and likeable with great chemistry and wonderful interactions. All I can say is, just keep'em coming.

This is the continuation of Varian and Harlow's story. I'm super interested in where this series is going. Although this ends with their HEA, there are so many other characters that were introduced and story lines that are still untold. I am excited to continue reading in this world.

Awesome.

The conclusion to their story was just as good as book one. I'm glad I found this series. Can't wait to watch Jaret stumble through his mating.

I really enjoyed reading this intriguing Sci-fi alien romance. The continuation from the first book “The Arcav King’s Mate #1” into this book is smooth & flawless. The story-line & plot is well-written & intriguing with some suspenseful events. The characters are well-developed & interesting with strong- willed personalities.
I was quite surprised by the sheer defiance displayed by the main female character (a cop, Harlow) who is now married to a determined Arcav King (Varian), there is good support from the secondary characters.
There is: various kinds of aliens, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, danger, threats, enemies, evil aliens (Grivaths), conflict, violence, humans, adventure, action, deceit, betrayal, invasion, confrontations, desperation, injuries, attempted abduction, resistance, defiance, determination, manipulations, suspicions, ultimatums, despondency, panic attacks, anger, resentment, family issues, some steam, compromises, misunderstandings, devious plans, sensual teasing, seduction, love, happiness, some steam & a well-deserved happy conclusion.
I look forward the next book with great anticipation & would recommend this series.

Delving into the royal couple

I enjoyed finding out more about them and the the Queens new home-world.
Think some things could have been added and removed to make it five star.
One would have been her being pregnant after their big fight. Other thing that was glaring in omission was the enemy ship going after earth. What happened to their plan to stop them? How did they get earth people and what happened on earth?
Recommend future book has a earth bound embassy, exchange so they can see and understand each other. Not to mention more of the basketball, etc fun. Maybe an Olympic like event.

This book is a continuation from book 1. This is a great series, with suspense and romance. Twists and turns to hook you. I can't wait for the next book!

In this book Harlow still has an absolute need to be trusted to take care of herself. She hates being protected and treated as useless. Variant struggles to accept this. Will they compromise or fall a part? Read the book to find out.

Harlow is definitely a spit fire, fighting Varian and their relationship every step of the way. The emotions in this story are intense with many ups and downs. I was difficult to put this story down. This a series that is best read in order. I cannot wait for book 3.

This book is fabulous. It is an amazing story of an older man younger woman story. It is fast pace, well written and interesting – before you know it you are at the end wanting more.

Awesome story!

Varian and Harlow seem to spend a lot of time with fear. He's afraid Harlow will leave and she is afraid to discover her feelings. They finally have gotten past this and admitted their love for each other.

I really liked the characters and especially the character development (a good surprise for an alien-mate romance, they usually lack in that department), and I can't wait to read the 3rd book!

The second book was decent but didn’t match the first book.
The conclusion felt rushed and wasn’t well-elaborated like the first book in this series.

Again, this could've been a 3 star book if it wasn't for the "heroine" Harlow. My God she was so annoying! Constantly finding a new reason to whine and fight back against her new life. Forget communicating with her mate and being rational. Let's go behind his back instead because she'd rather say I'm sorry (kidding she's to uppity to apologise for what she deems she thinks is right) instead of asking permission. And her inability to handle her emotions. Sure, I totally see how seeing a therapist could help a transition like hers. Make sense. Her overall lack of acceptance of her new role and life grated on my nerves. Nearly 70% in and she's still sooo resistant. Big deal she lost her mom and became a hard ass because she bounced around in foster homes. Cry me a river. She was too much of a baby playing at being a hard ass. She played the woe is me and victim card nearly the whole story!

And her hatred for him calling her "Mate" ?? Ugh, sure in the first book I understood where that was coming from but later it just seemed disrespectful.

At least Varian put the righteous know it all in her place when shit hit the fan. Hah, finally! He had every right to lose his temper and yell at her. She didn't deserve to explain at that point. She CHOSE to do whatever she wanted without talking to him. So hahahahahah!

So basically Harlow sucked balls. Varian was sweet IMO and he definitely deserved a more accepting mate. Things did a complete turn around at like 92% and she realized how she went about everything all wrong but boy it was too late in the game for me to care. The secondary characters were also pretty intriguing as well. Just Harlow sucked. So much.

Heather's Notes
These are short, but they still get a lot down. I liked Varian better in this book. He showed he had a soft side, he was still overbearing and alpha but he managed to also be sweet. He got Harlowe her cat, that he hated. They still have not found the traitor but things moved at a good pace. I will definitely continue the series.

I liked these two books and they kept me intrigued. I will definitely be continuing the series. Told from the first person point of view of both hero and heroine. Fated mates and royalty themes.

The only thing I didn’t like about these two books is that the h started to get annoying. She made selfish decisions and kept pushing the H away even when he explained his actions and was nothing but nice to her. I understand the first book having this attitude but it went so far into the second book it got frustrating and barely got any time of them as a united front in love.

But that’s just how I wanted the book to go and the author didn’t. So, not taking any points off for that. Definitely recommend still.

All steam is pretty vanilla.

I'm hopelessly addicted to this series!

The first book immediately caught me with the wonderful world building and the characters that have recognizable flaws. I love immersing myself in the sizzling love story as well as the intrigue our hero's find themselves embroiled in. I highly recommend this storyline to anyone who is looking for a little sci-fi with you romance. But, then again, I recommend this to anyone who enjoys the never boring journey of males and females learning what true love is all about.

I understand why we needed this book- Harlow was not ready at the end of book 1...but this book dragged!

Harlow is “selfcentered” and “selfish” in her own words, who keeps humiliating and hurting Varian any chance she gets. She’s spoilt and undeserving. I don’t believe the foster home crap she used as an excuse- she’s just a total bi***.

I might give book 3 a go but can’t promise to finish it

Loved It

Loved how it picks up from where the previous ones left off! A beautiful romance story that has plenty of action, adventure, humor, drama, self doubt, love, and steamy hot scenes that are not over the top with awesome characters. Definitely a must buy and so ready to read the next book in the series?
