What do you get when you put together a girl who shoots lightning, a magical boy with a feline familiar perched on his head, and a bunch of cosplaying vampires? Trouble.

When Evan Brendan is forced to chase an escaped gryphon to an island occupied primarily by clueless tourists, a famous lighthouse, and the occasional giant teddy bear left on a motorcycle, he discovers a scared runaway teenager with lightning powers she can’t control. Despite her objections and his better judgment, he takes his father's advice and recruits her for The Will, the secret organization he’s reluctantly been part of since birth. But what terrible secrets from her past might he be bringing into his well-ordered world?

Suddenly finding herself in a parallel dimension in a mansion complete with a cryptic gryphon, a silent revenant, a disturbing, too-pretty boy who smells like cinnamon, and his quirky feline familiar, Carrie Summerland has to learn to cope with her little-understood powers. But after a nightmarish initiation into this highly-dubious supernatural organization, can she trust these seeming new friends--or her own emotions?

Amid the haunted landscape of Jekyll Island, Georgia, where ancient oak trees drip with Spanish moss and hide the island’s dark past, Evan and Carrie must discover the secrets that The Will and Evan’s father are hiding and dig into the truths of Carrie’s past. With the help of the parkour-loving and occasionally pirate-garbed vampires of Savannah, Georgia, and hindered, helped, or confused by Evan’s past inamorati (a gamine tree nymph and a much-too-flirty succubus), they must find the source of a growing vampire madness and stop whoever is using it to try to take over the world.

On a Katherine Gilbert wackiness scale of 1-to-10 sarcastic talking cats*, this one is a 7.

*Warning: Not all stories contain talking cats. Wackiness may take other forms.

The More in Heaven and Earth series is all set in the same magical universe filled with angels, witches, werewolves, demons, vampires, ghosts, and many other supernatural creatures. They can be read in any order or as stand-alones and will introduce you to a variety of fascinating characters, as they take you to various parts of this unusual earth.

Katherine Gilbert was born at house number 1313 and then transplanted to a crumbling antebellum ruin so gothic that The Munsters would have run from it. She has since gained several ridiculously-impractical degrees in English, Religious Studies, and Women's Studies. She now teaches at a South Carolina community college, where all her students think, correctly, that she is very, very strange, indeed. Katherine Gilbert seems to have just the right amount of attitude to pull off a mélange of characters, from the sweet to the sarcastic! Her world building is another strong point in her favor!

CURSED IN WHITE stretches the imagination as a group of unlikely heroes begin their quest to save their world. Prepare to enter another dimension, become part of a secret organization, meets a gryphon, vampires and a girl struggling to accept it all as she wrestles with her own unusual powers.

Peppered with humor, danger and dark secrets, who can be trusted? Where does the truth lie amidst the deceit and who will still be standing when the dust settles? Characters that we can watch grow, a plot that never becomes mundane and surprises around every corner.

Looks like Katherine Gilbert has another hit on her hands for fantasy action lovers!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Katherine Gilbert! This is my honest and voluntary review.

I really enjoyed this book; it was great fun, very engaging and difficult to pry myself away from.

When a young man walking down a street is zapped by the electricity coming from the fingertips of a young, homeless girl, you know there is a good story coming.

He is Evan Brendan and she is Carrie Summerland. He knows magic, but until now, he had never met anyone who could wield electricity.

Carrie has been struggling with a hard life, living on the streets, after she killed her stepfather in self defence. Evan meets her by chance when he is chasing after his gryphon. He is supposed to be looking for magical or paranormal people or beasts to join his father's magical sect, 'The Will, but so far he only has a realm-lost gryphon; a manservant who happens to be a revenant who never speaks to him; and not much else to show for his efforts

As he is searching for the gryphon, who's name is Patrick, Evan brushes past Carrie in a crowded street. He feels a small electric jolt hit his arm, coming from her fingers. He instantly forgets Patrick and starts to follow Carrie. She is naturally afraid of him. She has had a tough time with the men who so far have been in her life, so she runs, and when he catches up to her, he tries to explain that he might be able to help her, but doubting his intentions, she runs again. So in desperation he magically abducts her, purely because he could see that when she hit him with the jolt of electricity, she couldn't control it, and therefore it would not be long before that would attract unwanted attention to the people fromthe magical realm.

What proceeds is a wonderful story filled with magic, vampires, a dryad, a cat of dubious affections who is Evan's familiar, and ghosts, lots of ghosts, amongst other beings. There is also a seriously messed up family dynamic going on between Evan and his parents. Plus a long overdue journey for Carrie, in a personal sense.

I loved this book. It had everything you need for a good story and it was told well. I felt it ended too soon, but that's my only complaint about the entire book.

Cursed in White is part of the More in Heaven and Earth series of paranormal romantic dramedies all set in the same magical universe filled with angels, witches, werewolves, demons, vampires, ghosts, and many other supernatural creatures. Katherine Gildbert writes laugh-out-loud, page-turning mysteries. Her heroines aren’t perfect, they are more than a little quirky, but they’re smart, they struggle, and they succeed. This novel is no different. It is a unique novel. It kept me spellbound from page one to the very last word! The tension and relationships are beautifully written and will keep readers coming back for more. I got chills up my spine more than once. I can't wait to see what happens next. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.

This book travels fast and is an interesting fantasy solution for how to deal with traumatic pasts, specifically, abusive fathers. Gilbert's supernatural world delivers a crowded landscape of otherworldly characters, with entertaining and sometimes unexpected results. Strong plotting in "Cursed in White" zips us toward the climax. A fun read, nicely rounding out the mythical panoply of Gilbert's novels.

Talk about hot stuff a girl with lightening coming from her hands. A witch wants to help her learn to control her power. He kidnaps her and tells her about the magical world. Carrie is a voracious reader and spends most of her time reading. Together they make sparks fly. Carrie comes from am abusive past. Evan has been raised by The Will a cult like supernatural policing agency. Neither has known true love. Will they make sparks fly? Is true love in their future? This is a fun read with lots of action packed and first class romance. Great characters and engaging dialogue. Get a copy today. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
Gilbert displays a deft touch with both world building and character development in "Cursed In White". The author balances action and exposition as we watch Evan and Carrie quirky adventures and see them mature and transform during the story.
I can hardly wait to read the follow on books in this series.
